Shani nodded making a note of what he wanted in her head. She knew he was a gentleman and always paid but it was nice to return the favour every once in a while. It was hardly as if she minded paying and she could do so she had decided that she would. “Regular little girl scout.” She replied chuckling as she shook her head. “It’s your holiday time, it is my treat and why don’t you just let me take care of you for a change?” She said softly, he was the greatest husband and it was the least she could do to show him her appreciation.
She could see the slight smile to his face. It was nice to see as she kissed his cheek again. “It’s good to see you smile.” She said quietly as she almost whispered in his ear. “Are you sure you just want the grilled chicken sweetie, it could be a long night.” Shani teased mercilessly as she placed their orders once it was their turn.

Jason nodded a bit, "I'm sure" he replied before playfully tickling Shani after she spoke to the young woman behind the counter. "I'm glad you like seeing me smile my yadid." he whispered to her, using the Hebrew word for beloved as he held Shani's hand in his. It was clear that he ment that to her. Jason went out of his way to show Shani that he loved her, be it leaving flowers for her or doing things around the house so that she could relax.
One of those moments was when he left a dress for her before taking her out to dinner while his parents watched the kids for them. Jason made a mental note to do that again the next time they both had time off.

Shani giggled under his touch as she tried to twist her way from his tickling. When he spoke in Hebrew she smiled it was a familiar language to her one that reminded her of home in Israel as she squeezed his hand lightly. “Always Neshama (darling) I’d never want to see you unhappy.” She said truthfully, there were many things in life that had the power to break her heart and seeing her husband unhappy was one of them. Shani knew what he did to show her he loved her, she appreciated everything he did.
From flowers, to house work to the dress that she still had for special occasions he made her feel like she was loved as she tried to do that for him too. Shani turned toward Jason, her expression serious. “You know I love you Jason, more than anything in the world. You and the children are my life.” She said knowing she would do everything she could to prove that to him every hour of every day. “I just want you to be able to relax for a change, let me take care of you for the day.” She said with a smile once again as she brushed a finger across his lips gently.

Jason smiled when she said that to him, listening to her as she spoke of taking care of him for a day. "When we get home: you are in charge." he said to her in reply after Shani ran her finger across his lips in a gentle motion. Jason kissed her again after she did that to him, knowing that it made her happy when he spoke in Hebrew to her. Jason did that whenever he could, knowing that it was a sign of respect.
A few moments later, the young woman brought their food over to them. Jason noticed when he glanced over, gently squeezing Shani's hand at the same time. "Thank you" Jason said to the young woman as he stood there and held Shani's hand in his.

Shani grinned and nodded, “I’ll give you five seconds to take that back before I hold you to your word.” She offered as she tapped her fingers on each second. When he kissed her again she felt like she was in heaven, it could have been anywhere in the world and all that mattered to her in that moment was him. To know that he was there and that he was happy. Hebrew meant a lot to her as English was her second language so to hear him speak it meant a lot to her.
When the young woman brought their food and Jason squeezed her hand she smiled. “Thank you.” She said as they held hands, Shani brought his hand to her lips as she kissed the back of his hand. “Thank you for today and coming home safe.” She said glad that he was in one piece. It was her worst nightmare to find out that he had been hurt so any time that he was there with her she wanted to tell him how grateful she was for him to be there.

Jason thanked the woman as well, then looked over when Shani kissed her hand. "You are most welcome....I do not want you to be a widow." he said to her honestly while looking Shani in the eye. Jason never really said it, but it scared him to the core that he would get killed on the job and Connor wouldn't have him around to guide him. "Shani...if anything were to happen to me, for Connor and Phoebe's sake please get remarried." he said to her gently yet honestly while sitting there and looking at her.
It was clear that he ment it and that he would do the same if anything happened to Shani. He would never what the kids to grow up with only one parent, which showed in the look on his face as he sat with Shani and held her hand in his.

Shani stared and blinked at Jason for a brief moment, her mind was spinning while she tried to contemplate what he had said. “I do not want to be a widow Jason.” She said firmly, a life without him was a life not worth thinking about at all though when he spoke about remarrying she could see he was being honest about it. She could see he meant what he said but it made it no easier to hear. Shani found herself holding his hand that little bit tighter.
“Jason without you... I just couldn’t.” She tried to explain, he was sitting right there and she had his hand she could feel it yet just the thought of losing him. The thought of going to a museum with the children without him it was horrifying. “I would never be able to love anyone like I do you, that would be unfair on the children.” She said feeling herself want to cry over a thought like that.

Jason listened to Shani as she spoke to him, gently squeezing her hand after she said that to him. Seeing the look on his wife's face, Jason moved over and gently put his arm around her. He didn't say much at the moment, he just held his wife close to him while sitting next to her. Deep down, he felt that he said the wrong thing....and it showed on his face as he looked over to Shani.
"Shani...forgive me if I hurt you with what I said....I just don't want you and the kids to be alone if something were to happen to me." Jason said to her softly and gently while keeping his arm around her. "That and I never want to see you unhappy." he added off the cuff in the same gentle tone.

Shani found it hard to think about the possibility that things would turn out where she might have to find a husband. Jason was the only one she wanted, the only one she loved and trusted enough to let him close to her. Shani wrapped her arms around him holding him as if he was life itself. She knew it was a talk they needed, one that was a possibility given his work as a cop but the thought was enough to shatter any emotion that might have kept her composure.
“I forgive you Jason, I know you don’t want that for us and I would do what you wanted me to. If you wanted me to marry again then I would but I want you to know, no one will ever be you and couldnt ever take your place.” She said quietly as she nodded understanding. “I wouldnt want you to be unhappy Jason, I’d want you to marry again if something happened to me. It just hurts thinking it is even possible.” She tried to explain as she leaned closer to his ear. “Ani ohevet otcha sweetheart.” (I love you.) She added as she kissed his cheek softly.

Jason smiled when she said that to him. "Ani ohevet otcha too Shani" he replied after she kissed his cheek, letting her words sink in at the same time. He kissed Shani on her cheek before softly pulling back and starting to eat, looking over to her at the same time. It was clear that Jason was enjoying this time with Shani and that he didn't want to waste a single moment of it.
"You know, this reminds me of the first date we went on." he said out of the blue a few moments later. That was one of many days that Jason always remembered, along with their wedding day and the day he graduated from the Q-course.

Shani smiled knowing he loved her as she loved him. She followed his lead, starting to eat her food for a few bites before she took a quick drink. It was nice to have time with him, time to themselves to be themselves and not dad and mum or parent or cop and paramedic. To just be them as they had been for so long before life took off and they ended up where they were. She would never swap a moment of it as it was the happiest she felt she could be.
There were a lot of days she remembered, being with Jason every single one of them was a great day. “You remember our first date?” She asked smiling, “I’m a lot less nervous this time than the first date I can tell you. Besides it didnt take me an hour to pick out what I was going to wear.” She added not sure if that was good or bad as was she too comfortable now and needed to do more she though.

"I do and that is true" Jason replied. "It took a lot of sweet talking on my part to get you to say yes if I remember right." he added after taking a sip of his drink, thinking back to that day. He remembered how nervous Shani was back that, but also knew that she had come a long way. After taking a sip, Jason reached over and gently took Shani's hand in his.
"We've both come a long way since college." Jason said while holding her hand in his. He though back to the day they first met. "Unless I'm mistaken: you were wearing a knee length jean skirt and a cream colored blouse the day we met." he added while watching her.

Shani giggled as he spoke about his sweet talking. “It took a lot yes but it worked out in the end, I said yes eventually. You were very persistent and sweet and handsome so really, was I going to say no?” She teased smiling sweetly at him; she could almost feel those nerves when she had said yes. It had never been him just the feeling of was she going to be good enough because in her eyes he was the one guy, the handsome smart one that all the girls would have done anything to get a date with him.
She smiled as she felt his hand take hers. “We have, a very long way.” She said surprised that he remembered what she was wearing from that day. “How did you? You remember what I wore on our first date?” She remarked leaning over as she kissed him lightly. “What did I ever do to deserve a fantastic husband like you? If I’m not mistaken it was a light blue dress shirt and jeans for you.” She added smiling happily as she remembered that day.

Jason smiled back at Shani when she said that. "I do...and it seems that you remembered what I had on that night." he replied gently. "You were honest...and didn't do anything out of character." he added in the same gentle tone in reply to Shani's question about what she had done to deserve him. "That didn't make sense did it?" he asked softly while sitting there and looking at her.
Jason looked away from Shani for a bit after saying that, then back to her while still holding her hand in his. Jason thought back to that night as he looked at her, thinking about what they had done then and how much he enjoyed the time he spent with her.

“I do, I will never forget that day because it was the start of life as it is now.” She said honestly as she smiled when he spoke about what she had done to deserve him. If anything she was brutally honest, it was a flaw or a curse or just part of her personality. She was honest to a fault, if her opinion was asked then people needed to be prepared for the truth and nothing less than that. Shani nodded when he spoke about it not making sense though she hardly minded at all.
“It made perfect sense to me and if you don’t make sense then I love that about you too.” She said smiling when he looked back to her as she squeezed his hand lightly. “As long as we are both ourselves and honest, nothing else matters.” She said quietly thinking about how much she loved him for just being himself. No gimmicks or crazy antics, at least none she knew of he was the guy she had met in college the guy who meant the world to her. The honest person who she loved with all her heart.
