“Oh sure but there’s always extra time to cram in a few more pages of study.” He joked as he laughed. “I ever tell you you’re too smart for your own good huh.”"Don't have to...that's a family trait, right?" She crossed her eyes at him, laughing. "Or...was it just me who got the 'smart' genes?" As much as he could drive her nuts sometimes with his mother-henning, she enjoyed and appreciated their relationship, and that they could eat pizza and tease each other. She'd seen often enough siblings that not only hated each other and fought, but who worked to undermine each other and back stab. “Never thought of that, my sister as my wingman... pretty great idea there you’ve got.” "Any time...I have connections with plenty of single nurses looking for a warm body!" “Ouch I don’t see any crazies in this room, do you? Besides why not do the leg work for me, that way at least I get to know if they like you first.”"Well, I'm sure not going to tell them that I'm vetting them for my crazy brother," Isla laughed, "I'd never get rid of you! But, well, I draw the line at assessing kissing techniques...I'll save that for the guys at the firehouse!" She gave him a wink. “Who said I don’t have a lady and six kids already that you don’t know about?” He joked, “I mean I might have a serious lady right now, just seeing how it goes first.” "Because I don't think there's a lady in the world who can handle that!" She indicated Steven. "Besides, the bags under your eyes aren't dark enough for six kids." Then she raised an eyebrow. "So, do tell...who is she? Your new partner?" She knew he was working with a female now, so maybe... Steven Hudson,

“Don’t push it, I mean you’re smart but then the eldest gets the smart jeans.” He joked though honestly at times he wondered if he had a smart piece of brain cell in him. Steven knew he could be difficult but it was only to make sure his sisters had the best, could be their own best and be the people he knew they could be. Just like any parent or big brother would ask, he just felt that missing their father he had a job to do in setting them straight with a lot of things. As painful as that could be at times.
“So is that all I am now, a warm body?” He said with a sigh, “At least I know where to set my standards.” Then again dating nurses, that could get awkward really quick depending on shift rotations and he already spent enough time at a hospital for pick up and drop offs. Last thing he needed would be a messy broken relationship and an entire staff hating him for something he might not have a clue about.
“Oh sure we talk about much worse than that.” Steven said with a laugh though mostly once you were the partner, girlfriend, wife of you were classed as family and it just got weird. If it was that night at the bar then it was pretty fair game to discuss in his eyes. “I’ll have you know that there are plenty of people that could handle me and what... dark bags under my eyes aren’t enough from my sisters?” He joked with a grin.
“Yeah Kelle, she’s great. You’ve probably seen her around the hospital.” Steven said smiling, “She has stuck it out so far and even after the boat and harbour incident too. Got to be worth the effort to keep her around I’d say.” Steven knew he was talked about at the fire house to do with how many partners he had gone through. He had his way of working and it often never meshed with the person until Kelle. Which was great to have a little faith that tomorrow he would be working with the same person and not just another new kid that needed to make a good impression.

"Wow, you must be paying her well or she's pretty addled to put up with you." Isla laughed, trying to think of who the girl might be -- she knew the medics by sight, but only a few by name, and if their shifts conflicted they might not cross paths much at all. "Is she...does she look a little like Brett?" Maybe she did know who he was talking about, blonde, a little quiet, kind of petite. But maybe not, the girl she was thinking about looked smart! "I guess you're right about you dating nurses, it could be a bit awkward -- and I'd hate that you might get an 'accidental' needle stick in the butt from some jilted nurse!" She laughed then sighed. "Really, Steven, you deserve a good woman who will put up with you and make you happy, but it's not something you can force, right?" She shrugged. "I guess for both of us, when it happens, it happens, or we'll end up gumming our dinners from our rockers on the front porch together!" She knew full-well, you couldn't go hunting for love, that was just asking for trouble, she knew that from experience. "Rather stay single, though, you know?" It was sad, what JerkFace had done to her trust. Steven Hudson,

“I’ll just tell her you said that.” Steven joked as he chuckled, “Maybe she is just there because she thinks I can teach her a lot and be a great partner on the job?” Two things Steven had never really been accused of, mainly no one lasted long enough to see his teaching and second to that they never lasted to see if he would be a good partner either.
“Yeah I guess so, darker hair I think but kinda.” Steven said not really sure, he really needed to pay more attention to things like that. Steven had little clue when it came to who looked like whom, people looked the same and different at the same time though stick him out of uniform and he likely could never spot anyone in their civvy’s on a day off.
“You nurses are evil, you know that.” He joked laughing though for some of them, he would never put it past them. “Though I’d be sure to make sure they were let down gently, I’m not totally evil.” He added with a smirk, yeah it was hardly like he was going to start dating at the hospital. His sister worked there and the last thing he needed was Isla doing exactly what he did to any of her potential dates.
Steven laughed and nodded to Isla, “Since when did you get so wise?” He asked her but she was right, he wasn’t about to hunt out people to date, he’d never really worked like that. There had been Julie but that had ended in a marriage of six months and a car crash that ended that. Lucky in love was never for him. Safer to stay away from it. “I don’t mind the rockers, think we’d do great just sitting out front rocking away.” He said with a laugh.
“Don’t let jerkface put you off anything okay.” Steven said seriously, “He isn’t worth it you know and the best way is to move on and find someone that deserves you. He didn’t deserve you at all.” So jerkface had been a special case of crazy and if Steven had managed to have his way, he’d be missing all his teeth, have no life to live and be buried in the harbour. Probably best he never got his way.

“I’ll just tell her you said that.” Steven joked as he chuckled, “Maybe she is just there because she thinks I can teach her a lot and be a great partner on the job?”"And maybe she's delusional?" Giving him a teasing look, she stuck out her tongue at him. “You nurses are evil, you know that.” He joked laughing though for some of them, he would never put it past them. “Though I’d be sure to make sure they were let down gently, I’m not totally evil.”"Close enough," she challenged, "you just hide it better because you're just evil!" Crossing her eyes, she gave him a goofy look. "Besides, who would ever think that a face like this could be evil incarnate with a foley cath and chest tube!" “Since when did you get so wise?”"I had a good teacher." While her tone was teasing, the words were genuine. Despite only being a few years older than she, he'd set aside his childhood and wild teen years and done an admirable job of taking care of the household and guiding his sisters into adulthood...not that she'd ever tell him that and give him those bragging rights! “I don’t mind the rockers, think we’d do great just sitting out front rocking away.” He said with a laugh."Does sound nice and relaxing, huh?" “Don’t let jerkface put you off anything okay.” Steven said seriously, “He isn’t worth it you know and the best way is to move on and find someone that deserves you. He didn’t deserve you at all.”"Took me long enough to figure that out." She shrugged and leaned back, looking at the movie but not really watching. "But hey, at least I figured it out before I was in too deep...well, before I married the jerk." Hopefully, he'd rot in jail, but she doubted it. "I just wish he hadn't caught me off-guard, so I could have..." She shrugged. "But you're right...just this one time! I'm not going to let him ruin my life...but I'm still not going to go running out to find a man! Besides, no one is going to pass the 'Big Brother Test' anyway, so I'll have to skip that part." “Ah, yeah I think that about covers it. Good job there’s a nurse to diagnose people in the family.” He said before Steven nudged Isla lightly. He had wondered if Kelle was but then again maybe it just took finding the right person to work with to be able to stick at the job more than before. “Aww you say it so well, I mean sure I would know because I’ve had to train you to be evil... I’ve seen those evil days. So just remember... I know where the skeletons are.” He added with a smirk sticking his tongue back out at her.
Steven enjoyed laughing and joking with her, he missed it or he had done given how much the two had been working. It was nice to just catch up and find out what was going on, even if it might be a heart attack in disguise for the topic of dating. “Don’t go going all soft on me now.” Steven joked as he smiled, he would never have had it any other way. Yes he did give up a lot when he was younger, he learned from it and it was nothing Isla or Emily would have done had they been the elder one. He had no doubt in that at all.
Steven nodded hearing about the rockers, he could see it maybe in ten or twenty years if he lived that long. Sat out on the porch, rocking away, watching the day go bye as everyone else worked their butts off and he just had the time to appreciate life as it was. Retirement sounded great until he realised that it meant being a lot less busy. “There is that, I would have totally driven the getaway car if you had decided against marrying him. Good life choice there.” He said with a grin, honestly the best life choice Isla had made in his eyes.
“So you could have what? Been in jail with him?” Steven asked as he raised his brow in her direction. “Glad that you’ve come to realise that but, it’s fun to at least scare some guys away. Just the right ones though, no bad ones.” It was tough to tell these days and Steven himself had made enough bad choices in women lately until Alyssa.

"Of course the right ones...the good ones." She grinned. "That's why I'm looking for a firefighter, you know, heroes. Now, doctors..." she rolled her eyes, "they may be crazy rich, but...they're doctors!" Of course, that didn't mean anything, she was just needling him, since just about every 'dad' would be thrilled to have the ladies in his life hook up with a doctor, although just because a man was a doctor didn't make him rich. "Who knows, I might find one of each. A big, burly fireman to take care of the physical needs, all brawn, no brains." She let out a low whistle. "Hot! And a doctor, rich, intelligent, someone to fund my extravagant lifestyle and stimulate my intellectual side!" This was fun, teasing her brother like this! "Guess I'll need to become a Mormon!"
