Kelly sighed. He was focusing now. He hadn't been and that was bad. He could've gotten someone killed, most likely Matt or one of the others. Well, he wasn't going to let that happen. No, he was going to keep his head on straight. Now, if someone from Squad would report, that'd be great...

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline “See you’re learning things Harris.” “Anyone ever tell you that you were in a pita Hudson?” she retorted in response. Yeah she might bicker with him but Hudson read her a little better than most did at the house. Sometimes she thought he had a better understanding of what was going through her mind than Ben did at times. "Hang on, Steph, we've got you now” Normally Stephanie would fight anyone who touched her. She didn’t fight Kelle for two reasons. One she didn’t really have the strength for such a thing and two she knew Kelle from the house. She was about to make some smart remark, but decided it was best to just let them work. Her mind was on her it was on her brother. “Yeah, that happens when you chose to fall onto a tree you know. Not the brightest idea Harris.” When Steven started to work on her side she seethed but didn’t pull away. The fire department had cut it down in length and made it so that it wouldn’t catch on anything. There was still a rather good chunk that had gone inside of her. Her breathing was sporadic and she felt dizzy. “Hudson stop spinning around in circles?” she offered. Right side left side. Dammit Hudson pick a side. She closed her eyes. "You hurt anywhere besides that thing in your side?" “Peter needs to get out, he needs to be okay.” She hadn’t even really heard Kelle’s remark asking about her own condition and honestly she had other things on her mind. As weak as she was moving. Taking in the oxygen she started to breathe easier. Though seeing Paramedics in SBA masks made her worry. Just how bad had things gotten if they were inside? Steph No Radio

we've lost it all
Matt’s eyes moved over Gabby for a moment. He could tell that she wasn’t taking this well. Then again who was? He knew he needed to give her something do and that is precisely why he was going to do. “Help them from the ladder up here.” He knew she had done that before many a time. He patted her lightly on the back. Matt was trusting her with this. He had to oversee everything and couldn’t really just focus on her at the moment.
That’s when he noticed Kelly there with a deer in the headlights look. The he heard the rest of squad start to come in over the radio. Capp reporting for most whose hands were full. “Severide!!!” he snapped harsh enough to catch the guy’s attention. His head wasn’t in a good place, but neither was the rest of the house at the moment and Severide really needed to get it together. It crossed Matt’s mind to put a phone call to Brittany later. “Help the medics with Stephanie. They are going to need a hand down that ladder” he pointed out. Matt was doing more of giving people things to do to keep their minds on their jobs so they could all get out of there alive.
Matt understood their places but someone had to focus. Right now that person was clearly not their Lieutenant from Squad. Matt wanted to throw something at him, but this wasn’t the time for that. Right now he just had to get him to do his job. So there was that task. Which was easier said than done.

“Ready to move him guys?” Catherine nodded. At this point they were ready now that he had been completely unearthed. Catherine looked up towards Shani. “I’m gonna ride with medevac team if they will let me” she pointed out to her partner. This was Catherine breaking. Right now there were no tears, just… statements of fact. For as introverted as Catherine was she didn’t cry unless she was alone; but she had also made late night phone calls to Shani to talk in the past. The snapping seemed to have worked as Ben left Cat out of the teasing for now. She was thankful for it. She steadied Peter so they could get him prepared to move. “Chopper should be here by the time you get out of that building 58” she heard over her radio. “Copy that. I need a trauma team on standby at med. Crush injuries and suspected internal bleeding. Patient is unconscious” she reported downstairs to the medic who was working the scene. She’d already forgotten the guy’s name. Her mind was on Peter as she finally got to a place where she could start an IV line. She felt for a pulse again and spoke. “Pulse dropping. We gotta move!” she stated. She was glad there was hands. “Taylor with us.” She could hear them discussing over the radio how they were going to move Peter to the helicopter in the fastest way possible without risking the medevac team or their chopper based on the layout and the fire’s current state. It was semi foreign to Catherine but she was listening to it for instructions from the medevac team that was going to take over. She could feel her heart pounding. Seeing flames starting to catch on the other end of the hall she gave Shani a panicked look. Catherine hated fire. "Try to relax," Kelle coached Stephanie, hoping the woman would listen, "Peter's in good hands," she grinned, "second best medic team in the state! Of course, that means you get the best, and once we get you out of here I'll give you some pain medications...take away that pain...are you allergic to anything?" As she spoke, she helped Steven get Stephanie strapped into the Stokes so that they could get her out safely. "Of course," she added, "nothing will take care of this pain in the ass!" She grinned as she nodded to Steven. "Don't worry, though, I'll make sure he behaves." While some people might be offended by some of the banter, it was just the way that they dealt with stress, something they all understood, and good or bad, if it helped to keep Stephanie distracted, it was serving its purpose. "Hang on, we'll have you out of here pretty quick." Steven Hudson Stephanie Taylor

At Matt's sharp tone when calling his name, Kelly gave himself a mental shake. "I'm good," he retorted, visibly relaxing when he heard the others reporting over the radio. Okay, they're fine. I don't have to worry about anyone, he thought to himself. He needed to get out of here after shift. Talk to Brittany or something. Yeah, that sounded good.
He then nodded as the other lieutenant told him to help the medics with Stephanie as they would need help down the ladder and then went to do so, assessing the situation. Seeing a way they could get her down, he spoke up, outlining what he wanted to do.

OUTSIDE BY AMBULANCE"That guy scares me, how can he be a fire fighter if he's scary?""That's a good question," he watched as Clarke walked away, a dark cloud over his self-important head then turned back to Grace. “Thank you, I just want them back Chief.”"I know you do, Gracie," he drew her close to him with a gentle but secure hug. he wasn't about to let anything happen to her. "I do, too." “You’ve got to come along too. I’m not leaving you here either.”Looking down at her he gently cuffed her chin and looked closely into her face with a grin. This precious child was stealing his heart. "Don't you worry, Gracie. Wherever you go I'm staying right there with you. I won't leave you alone. Ever," and he pulled her into a protective embrace once again. “Madison sounds like a beautiful girl too. What school does she go to?” she asked him. "A long ways away," he answered her. "I don't get to see her as often as I'd like to and I really miss seeing her." “She’s lucky to have you as her granddad.” "Why, thank you, Grace," he continued to smile as he went down on one knee to look at her face to face, his hands on each of her shoulders. “I’ve only got my dad and then I have Stephanie too but they are the only two people in the world that are my family. I cant lose them.” "I think your Dad and Stephanie love you very much, too. And everything is being done to rescue them, Grace. These are good people and will do all they can to make sure you see them soon. And I promise as soon as they are taken to the hospital I will be right there with you. Alright?" Grace Taylor , Any

Ben stood and listened to what was being said, helicopter on it’s way and there sounded very good to him right at that moment. Peter was in trouble and despite things as they were Ben was hardly going to stand around and do nothing for the man. He felt his heart sink when Catherine said ‘pulse dropping’. Bad, very bad he thought silently so as not to upset Stephanie, well it was starting to be the fastest route from A to B he thought as he listened for instructions over the radio.
“You two listen up, we’re going to head that way.” Ben said pointing to a window at the far side of the hall. “You two out first, Peter and I will follow but get ready to take him at the end okay?” He said knowing that sliding Peter down the ladder was going to take time but then it needed to be done without launching him like a rocket and hoping for a soft landing at the end of it all. Ben could see the look that Catherine gave Shani, well fire was a whole other animal but it was something that came second in that moment.
“You’ll all be okay, just follow us and grab a handle.” He said motioning to Peter as he and a couple of others got ready to lift Peter and move toward the window. The fire was a little to close for comfort but then finding another exit point was too time consuming and they needed to get out as quickly as possible. This call was turning into one of those days where going home and hugging family was a privilege rather than a thing he could do.
His family however one was out with Kowalski and the other was heading to hospital, both he was mad at and both he would yell at after he knew they were both going to be okay. Grace he could ground until she was twenty one but Stephanie, he needed to figure all that out but right then his main concern was Peter and getting the medics out in one piece.
(Assuming they are heading to the ladder too? Can be amended to suit.)

Gabby was relieved when she had something to do that was constructive. "Thanks Leiutenant." She said as felt his hand on her back and suddenly it was like she had a renewed purpose there, a reason to focus as she glanced over to see how the others were getting on for a moment before she went over to the window to help guide the ladder up to them. It was easy enough to break the window as it had jammed about a foot from where it needed to be. A quick call over the radio to the people below and once their eyes were shielded she broke the glass.
Clearing the way for anyone to get out without being cut into pieces by jagged edges as she leaned out to help guide the ladder up to the window. Once it was rested on the window ledge Gabby could see someone climbing up as she grabbed her radio. “Ladders up, who’s first to go?” She called as she stood next to it ready to help get people out. Gabby saw a few blocks of rubble by the window as she moved it to make a step of sorts so it was easier to get people up and out as she glanced down at the height.
She could only hope that no one would panic but then time would tell as she glanced to the flames at the end of the hall. Things were beginning to get that little bit warmer as the smoke billowed out into the clean air outside. Gabby nodded as the fire-fighter on the ladder halted at the top moving his clips to easily slide back down as she relayed the information about who was coming out and how they would need to work it.

Shani nodded when Catherine spoke about going with Peter, there was no chance she would fight her on that point as Peter was family to everyone and trusting him to the hands of a medevac team. No he was better to have someone who knew him go with him though the statement of fact had her worried. Shani was glad Catherine was the none crying type when it came to work though she had answered enough late night phone calls to know that she was upset. “He’ll be okay.” Shani said softly in an effort to reassure her.
The radio provided a much welcome distraction and knowing that the ticket out of there would be waiting. At least that was going right she thought unless something happened to the chopper and then all bets were off but she had everything crossed. “Blood pressure getting critical.” She said as she looked to the monitor she had. It was far too low for her liking and even an IV she was hardly sure that was going to fix it. Usually fluids would help but internal bleeding they would just fill him full of IV solution and blood.
Shani had little idea of that chat over the radio about what do to and how to get them out. It was all a bit of a blur but she understood the voice tones. Barking orders or the semi hesitant that said all was maybe not as good as they had hoped. Shani caught the panicked look from Catherine as she smiled as if everything was going to be fine. Sometimes it helped to have children because the smile was well practiced and she hoped it worked as well as it did on her youngest when she was convinced that monsters were in the her room.
“Catherine look at me.” Shani said firmly, “Focus on Peter, if the fire-fighters aren’t worried then we don’t need to be. It won’t hurt us and it won’t get here because we will be out long before it does.” It was easy for her to be straight to the point, usually she was a far more blunt but today she was trying to help Catherine. Shani glanced at Ben for a moment before she looked toward where Gabby was. “See, grab a handle and life will be fine besides look we’ve an exit right over there.” Shani pointed to Gabby though the flames had her worried she just tried to hide it well. “You know, I think he’s the witch of the west. Grab a handle... think he’s been reading his motivational day calendar.” She said with a grin.

Steven raised his brow and grinned, “A pita, now that sounds like a good idea for lunch.” He said though he twisted her meaning as he glanced to Kelle. “Pita for lunch? Harris gets none because she’s being a total Pita too.” Well as much as a person could be when they were hurt but when it came to Stephanie the woman had a way and there needed to be a certain way to deal with her too. He had seen Ben try and a few times there was hope in his heart that the man had it and then as brief a glimmer as it was, he failed and Steven was left shaking his head and muttering around the fire house.
When Stephanie told him to stop spinning around in circles he nodded. “You know you’re not my wife Harris, you don’t get to give me orders and I will spin like a fairy if I want to.” He said before regretting his choice of words as he had images to tutus in his head. Steven laughed as Kelle said they were the best team in the state. “Oh you’re right, we are number one. Might even beat them to Chicago Med depending on traffic.” He joked though if they were getting a helicopter then there was no chance but always fun to dream.
Steven raised his brow at Kelle, “Me... a pain in the where. Ladies please I think you have me confused.” He teased before chuckling, “Me behave, well I suppose I get the best partner to try to make sure that I do but I make no promises.” Well he was sure of two things one that Kelle was the best partner he had and two that he would try to be on his best behaviour because last time he had managed to land her in IA’s grasp and that was not happening again.
“So do we go for it and slide down this ladder or down and out?” He offered looking between Kelle and Stephanie. It was their choice he though one given that he wanted Kelle to be comfortable with the choice since they were already in a burning building and really things could hardly get worse than that for a shift with a difference.

To Grace all fire fighters were friendly people, she had been brought up by a house full of them before her dad transferred to fifty one and she was still trying to figure out people there. Some she had met others not so much though for the Chief Grace was glad it was Dean that was there. Grace nodded when Dean hugged her, she just wanted her family back and this was the worst fire she had seen on the news for a while.
Grace got the same old story from her dad when it came to his work day. It went well, he lied sometimes though she knew it was so she didnt worry but this time she couldnt just sit back and wait at the neighbours for someone to say that either of them were not coming home. “You promise Dean? Ever?” She said into his jacket as he embraced her, he seemed like the best kind of fire fighter to her as she hugged him tightly.
“You don’t see her often? You should really, why don’t you bring her to Chicago like my dad did?” Grace asked not entirely understand the intricate details that families had at times. She said what she thought to people and the thought of Dean not seeing his Madison was just awful in her mind. She couldnt imagine not seeing her dad for any amount of time at all. “It’s true, not many people would stand up for me... I kinda did kick one or two of them and you know bite too but they shouldn’t have stopped me.” Grace said trying to explain herself.
So it wasn’t the fire fighters fault but stopping her wasn’t going to happen so why try. Grace listened to Dean when he said that Stephanie and her dad loved her as she nodded. “Okay, as long as you promise you’ll go too. The people I don’t know but I trust you.” She stated firmly as she hugged him again. “And I’m glad that you are out of there too.” She added with a smile.

OUTSIDE BY THE AMBULANCE“You don’t see her often? You should really, why don’t you bring her to Chicago like my dad did?”This precious child was stealing his heart and he didn't mind one bit. On one knee he held Grace close to him just as though she were his very own grandchild but then loosen his arms when she moved back just a bit to speak to him face to face. "Because she lives with her mother and father," he explained. "They live on the other side of the world but they come to visit on the holidays when they can. You see, my youngest son, Todd, is in the Army and his family is with him. Madison lives in Okinawa, Japan with her family. They'll all be back home one day and you'll get to meet her. But for now I hear from her when she sends me an email. If you'd like I can tell her about you and give her your email address so you two can write to each other, if you'd like." “... as long as you promise you’ll go too. As soon as they had a plan, Kelly went to help the victims down the ladder, being careful not to jostle them. The last thing they needed was to have their injuries hurt more. So yeah, he was going careful. And fast. He did not like the looks of things. Once everyone was out and safe on the ground, he'd be happy.
He smiled a bit as he listened to the conversation. "Harris, how you feeling?" he asked when she didn't respond to the question about her injuries. If she doesn't answer, I'm gonna pull rank on her. Hey, he was one of the leaders and it was his responsibility to make sure that everyone could do their job.
