Shani loved getting the calls through but certain ones she would trade for a slow day. The driving she loved, slightly erratic but then speed was essential in some cases just like this one. However when Shani looked across to Catherine she would see the woman looked distressed. When it was their own involved and hurt it hit home more than most. This was not just another accident or tragedy this was them doing their jobs and getting hurt in the process. Shani resisted the urge to call home and tell everyone she loved them as she focused hearing Catherine on the radio.
“Better not be Hudson.” She muttered quietly, there was no issue between the two but then the guy for some reason annoyed her more than others. For one he could never keep a partner until Kelle, that she found strange having worked with the guy for eight weeks before she wanted off that rig as if it was on fire. Once they were there Shani looked over to Catherine. “Are you alright for this?” She asked not wanting her partner to lose herself when people needed help.
Shani waited for Catherine on the radio before she looked across at her. “We get Peter right?” She said figuring that if Stephanie trusted Hudson then that was her prerogative. Shani was more than happy to pull up alongside 61 though she winced at the thought of Albino getting triage. Was it going to be a jungle out there or what she thought as she listened to the radio chatter. The call for medics came through and Hudson replied as she guessed Kelle would too though Shani wanted to make sure Catherine wanted to go in or to just wait and see and swap once Stephanie was out.

Kelle helped with getting things tossed on the gurney, adding a backboard, just in case, but passing on splints...there wouldn't be time for that inside, and if it was necessary, they could deal with it by careful handling or just securing the broken part to the backboard. Hopefully, that wouldn't be an issue.
As Steven grabbed his gear, she moved in beside him to put on her own, a little hesitant. She'd trained for this sort of thing, and had even been in a house fire or two, but that was nothing compared to this...
And she was leaving for Scotland in two days...so it would figure that something bad would happen to keep her from going...
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
"Oh, no...it's fine, I'm fine..." She lifted the SCBA tank over her head, letting the straps fall into place then tightening them. "I'm with you."
“If you do then stick close to me and I won’t let you out of my sight. If we both go in we both come out, that’s a promise.”
"In as a team, out as a team." She nodded, then smiled. "I'll be all right and I'll do what I'm told." She might be headstrong at times, but she knew when to listen. "Ready."
“Hudson on my way.”
Taking a breath to calm her nerves, Kelle trotted alongside her partner, confident that the firefighters wouldn't let anything happen to them.
“We get Peter right?”
Kelle glanced at Steven, then keyed up her mic. "Affirm on that, 58, we're headed in now..." She wasn't sure if the other crew was going to join them or wait for Peter to be brought out...but she kinda figured they'd be right behind.

People were talking to him again. This time it was a guy and unlike the female known as Harris, he used a name that sounded a little more normal. "Peter...I'm Dean. How you doing?" He wanted to push the mask away, it felt claustrophobic but at the same time the clean air felt good, each breath made his head a little less somewhat fuzzy. "HOLD ON!!! DON'T MOVE HER JUST YET!"Peter winced at the yelling, why did everyone have to yell? Opening his eyes he watched Dean using his radio, "We need medics on floor six. Stat. "We have a female firefighter and a male paramedic with severe injuries. The female has a piece of wood embedded in her side and an injured shoulder. We have slowed the flow of blood but not stopped it.
"The male is trapped under some rubble bleeding badly from his head and mouth. He is delirious and loosing consciousness. I'm afraid if we move the female the male could be crushed to death.
"The fire has not spread to this area as of yet but am not sure how long it can be held off. We need help now! NOW!" At the mention of a male being crushed Peter once again tried pulling at his left side of his body. His left arm moved a little bit where as everything from him hip down was numb; it was not numb like pins and needles it was in numb in the way that he could not feel anything. Then more people arrived, “Want us to take a shot at moving the rubble?” Peter slowly turned his head and looked to Ben. He recognized his voice, more so he recognized him, "Hey Ben, how's going?" he asked very slowly. He knew the firefighter, how exactly he knew the man Peter couldn't remember (along with a bunch of other stuff). Tag: Benjamin Taylor Stephanie Taylor @dean Peter off radioPeter on radio

“We’ll be there as soon as, looking for a second route.”“Hudson on my way.”"Roger that," Dean replied to the messages on the radio. Slowly but surely his call for help was being answered. “Want us to take a shot at moving the rubble?” Taylor asked him. Keeping a close eye on Peter he watched as the trapped man tried to move but only managed to move part of his left arm a bit but not his leg. There was a big piece of plywood holding some of the bricks and debris off him. "Let's see if we can lift this enough to pull Peter out. Hudson. Get down there and try to pull Peter out when we lift this stuff up," he told to the various men. "Kidd! Otis! Come help us." He didn't really like leaving Stephanie unattended but Peter's life was on the line. When all of them squatted down they braced themselves and were ready, he called out. "On three. One Two Three!"With all his might he rose to his feet pushing with all his might to lift the board and hoped it would be enough to free Peter out from under the rubble. Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Floor Six “Hudson on my way.” Stephanie could just hear everyone moving around her and she just wanted out. She wasn't settling even with all the voice around her. “Want us to take a shot at moving the rubble?” "Hey Ben, how's going?" "On three. One Two Three!" Before she could process that Peter recognized Ben she was being moved with the board she was laying on. Stephanie was on top of Peter and she understood that they were going to have to lift her with the board she was on. When Otis and Kidd did what they were told, all she could do was scream from the pain of being moved. Though they had already stabilized the stick in her side, which for them was a good thing. Stephanie started hearing parts of the buildings collapse and it sent her back to a Warzone in her head. Back when she had been deployed. Stephanie kept her mouth shut but in her head there was screaming and crying, death and destruction. When Matt got up there to help, he was pushed away. "No just don't touch me" she demanded. She was fading from blood loss. The voices around her were becoming blurred. Stephanie trusted very little. Gabby was one of the few people she was able to talk to that wasn't pinned down, freaking out, or on their way up through levels of a burning building. So she wasn't surprised when Matt came and left.

we've lost it all my heart is beating im gonna pass the test
Floor 6 - Headed down to Ground Floor
Matt realized in all the radio garble that he hadn't heard the other Lieutenant. "Severide! Severide report!" he called into the radio. He was worried about the guy. He hadn't said anything since this whole incident started. 'He's just busy with his job' he reasoned in his head, 'he just focused on clearing the building' well someone had to do just that thing.
Matt wasn't exactly all together in his head as he heard that their people were trapped. He wasn't sure he wanted to be in Severide's head at the moment. The Harris' they were both part of the house, but one of them being a paramedic and the other squad, he knew Kelly's head wasn't going to be sitting right.
“Oh Lieutenant, Stay close don’t want you wondering off.”
Matt normally would have laughed at the comment, but it was only just enough to bring him back to focusing. No, they had to focus or the house wasn't going to get out of here alive. Once Gabby had found the other route out they moved their way up a few levels.
When they got there Stephanie was being moved with some of the rubble. Medics were on their way he had heard that on the radio earlier. "Dawson over here" he needed someone to stay with Stephanie who could calm her down. There were very few people in the house who could do so.
"No don't touch me"
"She's losing consciousness, Hudson give me your location" he clicked over the radio. "Gabby stay with her, keep her calm. Otis with me. We are going to go clear a path for the medics" he stated as he looked to Dawson just a moment before they took off. He was trusting her into the care of the rest of the house.

Ground Floor When they got out of the ambulance they heard the call for medics go out for them to come up. "Yeah, I'm good for this" she ascertained finally. It had taken her a few minutes to gather her head as he gathered her stuff. Catherine didn't do well in fire's but this was their people's lives on the line. She geared herself up and handed equipment over to Shani. "Yeah we have Peter" she stated. Right well now was probably not the best time to explain things but out of nervousness as they headed inside, she was just talking. "Except he's the medic that stood me up on that coffee date" she pointed out. ANY conversation to distract herself from the fact they were heading into a burning building. Quite honestly, she hadn't seen Peter since then. It was then she realized that she hadn't radioed to tell the chief they were on the way. "Davidson on the way" she replied as she waited to see if Shani was going to report. Then Catherine moved quickly to catch up with the others though one of the outside fireman followed them in. Soon she was catching up to the others. Cat Off RadioCat On RadioSteven Hudson Shani McGuire Kelle Lindsay, EMTPTemplate by Ulla of Adoxography

Post by Grace Taylor on Sept 5, 2016 21:59:01 GMT
Grace was stuck at the neighbour’s house for what the third shift that week. Not that she minded but both her dad and Stephanie were working which meant the fun level was more related to a card game of snap. It was riveting. Still she half paid attention with the neighbours kids as she watched the scene that was being reported on TV. The large building with plumes of smoke billowing from windows and doors as the news cameras panned around the scene. The fire looked bad as she reached for her phone, no messages or calls from either Stephanie or Ben.
That was a good thing, it had to be she thought as eventually the entire house hold of two boys their mother and Grace were all transfixed by the sight. The news reporter spoke loudly against the blaring sirens and it wasn’t until Grace saw the number on the side of the fire truck that she felt that horrible knot in her stomach. The sort of knot that had her reaching for the edge of the table before she took off out of the front door. She could hear her neighbour yelling behind her as she pulled out her pushbike from the garage and threw her helmet to the floor.
Her dad could kill her later she thought as she set off across to the address where the fire was being filmed. Her dad wasn’t ever off the phone to her, the text of do your home work, look after the neighbour, help out and be a good child. There had been nothing for a while, it wasn’t entirely unusual but she had seen the numbers on the truck. Squad 3, that was Ben and Stephanie. It was her family there, the only dad and only mum she had known and she was going to be there to find them she told herself as she cycled across to where the lights were flashing.
It was easy enough once she ditched her bike at the entrance to mix in with the crowd. She hadn’t seen anything like it before, the faces of the people cover in ash mixed with blood and whatever else was there. Grace tried to look at the faces but for a fourteen year old she was terrified, even the fire fighters she didnt recognise until she found the Truck she was looking for. Squad three but it was entirely empty. “DAD” She yelled as she wondered a few steps further into the chaos. “STEPHANIE!” She yelled again knowing they would answer if they were there but there was nothing.
Grace’s shoulder was caught by an older looking fire fighter as she turned around. “Have you seen my dad and mum? They are with Squad 3.” She asked not caring if Stephanie was technically not her mum because to her she was. Grace saw the look in the man’s eyes as she followed his eye line to the building that had pieces falling off it. Buildings weren’t meant to do that. Without thinking Grace took a few steps toward the fire, she had to do something to get them out to help them though it was as far as she got before the hand on her shoulder became a hand on her arm pulling her back.
“LET ME GO!” She screamed fighting the Chief of Fire House twenty thee, the two hands that had hold of her she soon squirmed away from before another fire fighter got in her way. Her screaming pleas to be let go soon turned into tears as she felt a hand move closer to her face. Without thinking Grace bit it hearing someone scream and soon found a few of the hands let go for a second or two allowing her to make a few feet closer to the building before three of them grabbed her and pinned her to Truck 81. “Stephanie, DAD!” She screamed as she watched the older Chief reach for his radio.
“Chief Kowalski.” Chief Twenty three said over the radio. “I’ve got a family member here for Stephanie and a dad. She just bit one of my men and I swear I’ll get her go into that building if you don’t come down here and calm this nut case down.” The Chief had barely finished before Grace had managed to land an unfortunate blow to one of the men that send him crashing to the floor howling in pain. “Kowalski this is your fire fighters family, I want her out of here or arrested.” He said grabbing hold of Grace’s offending leg as she was kept pinned to the truck until the Chief got there.

Kelly jumped when he heard Matt's voice over the radio, asking him to report. Damn, he sounds worried, he thought to himself as he went activate his radio. "I'm here. Everything's all good. I'm heading out. Got too thick in there," he stated. And I really didn't like the looks of it, he thought to himself. Maybe he was being paranoid, but it was better safe than sorry.
As he headed back, he activated his radio again. "Coming out. What do you guys need from me?" he wondered. G-d, this is....I can't... He needed to stay busy so he wouldn't go crazy with worry. Hopefully, there would be something that he could do.

Post by Gabriela Dawson on Sept 6, 2016 20:33:44 GMT
The call had gone to hell faster than she could have imagined, two people injured and there were nowhere near it to help. Gabby hated not being able to help, it was one of her annoyances in life and this time it was more than that. Their family was hurt and that never sat well with her. Gabby listened for Matt’s laugh but there was nothing, just the sound of the fire. She tried to shake the feeling that something was wrong but it ate at her as she threw herself in concentrating on getting them to the right floor.
Gabby glanced around when Matt called her over, Stephanie had been moved with some of the rubble and Peter was still pinned. Gabby knelt down next to Stephanie as Gabby moved her helmet slightly so she could see a little better. The paramedic in her wanted to scream for the kit bag and the fire-fighter was worried about her friend though with Stephanie telling people not to touch her, the woman needed to calm down before she hurt herself or someone else.
“On it Lieutenant.” She said with a nod trying not to say be careful to him in front of the entire house. Home and work, home and work she told herself as she focused on Stephanie. “Stephanie you’ve got to listen to me. It’s Dawson.” She said firmly as she reached a hand out toward the woman slowly. “I don’t say this often but you need to calm down before I make you. Don’t make me swap back to the dark side of the paramedics.” She warned though how she was going to do that was a long shot at best. Gabby tried to think of things to keep her awake without panicking people around them.
“Do you want to tell me why we are all in here and not just spraying the windows with water?” She asked her when Gabby heard the call over their radio’s for the Chief. Family for Stephanie, well the only family she knew about was stuck under the rubble as well before she heard the word dad. Since Louie her entire outlook had changed as she decided to completely ignore Ben and his possible meltdown. “Stephanie talk to me about Grace, does she take to biting a lot? Or just a general nutcase?” She asked trying to either annoy her into staying awake or just ask enough questions that she had to think about them.

Ben grinned when Peter spoke, he was awake and talking for now that was a good thing. It was slow but it was something and at least he was hardly yelling at him about Stephanie which was another good thing. “It’s going good Peter, just hanging here with you and fifty one. Got any plans tonight?” He asked casually as if it was a fire house conversation where everyone was sat around the table and things were as normal as normal got for the house. Ben could see that only the mans left arm moved a little but nothing else.
Ben tried to stay focused on the task at hand as Stephanie was moved off Peter. He could hear part of the building falling in and yet that was the least of his issues as he tried to work out how best to get Peter out without having the entire lot of rubble crush the guy. He was still annoyed about the fact a medic was inside a burning building but then there were going to be four more shortly so he could hardly argue the ‘stay outside’ rule right now. Ben crouched down for a moment to try and get a better angle on things when he heard the call for the chief.
Stephanie and a dad he thought for a moment before he groaned. Grace had been left with the neighbour, he could not deal with that as well he thought listening to the radio call. Before he could stop himself Ben reached for his radio, no one called his daughter a nut case but him. “Hey twenty three, you call her a nut anything again I’ll make sure that it’s me that bites you. Touch her you’ll regret it.” He snapped before he regretted it, way to go speaking to another chief like... well the man had been talking about his daughter.
Ben turned to the Chief a moment, “Sir, Chief... I need to do my job.” Ben said trying to explain before he just out and said it. “Grace she’s Stephanie and I... she’s our daughter and I need to trust her to you Chief. I can do my job up her but not down there.” Ben said looking at the Chief as if he was about to hand him his life in his hands. “Chief I need you to go and take care of her before Twenty three gets their butt kicked. Can I trust you to do that this once?” Ben knew it was a big ask but then the chief wanted people to trust him like they did Boden and that was his moment to win his trust.
Ben had just about felt that he left his life in the Chief’s hands when more rubble fell onto Peter. Heavy pieces that Ben winced at hearing crash onto the rubble already there. Smaller pieces showered the others as he watched Gabby move herself over Stephanie to keep most of it off her. Ben winced as the rubble that fell seemed to pin Peter in a worse position than before. “Peter talk to me, what hurts and where? Can you move or not?” He asked wanted to know where to start moving things so the medics could get in to do their job.

This was different to their usual calls, a small fire here or just smoke he was used to but this. This was not the usual which was why he wanted to know she was comfortable in going in. Steven smiled and nodded, “I promise I won’t let anything happen to you.” He said as he motioned to a couple of fire-fighters milling around outside. “They won’t either, trust what they say and we’ll be in and out and back at Starbucks again.” He joked trying to appear as relaxed as possible about it all.
“That’s right, we will show these fire-fighters how it’s done for a change.” He said with a grin, this was strange to have to trust a fire-fighter he thought when usually medical issues came up it was the medics that knew what to do. Just like any other call he told himself silently as he took a breath. Steven heard Matt’s call over the radio as he rolled his eyes. “We’re waiting for our escort. Who’s picking us up this fine evening?” He asked as he looked toward Kelle, he was hardly going to let her go in there without people looking out for her and fire was not his top subject.
“Be there before you know it Harris’s plus we’re bringing Ambulance Fifty Eight to the party.” He added. Well there was nothing like a family gathering, even if it was inside a crumbling building. Steven turned to Kelle for a moment, “Check your fastenings and your oxygen.” He said though he knew she probably would have done already it never hurt to be double sure that everything was sound before the chaos.

Post by Shani McGuire on Sept 6, 2016 21:59:54 GMT
Shani had her turn out coat on, helmet and about everything else that was needed for a building fire. What happened to plain old stay on the outside she thought though when it was a life hanging then she was hardly going to turn down the opportunity for an exciting day. It would at least give her something to say over dinner later or breakfast depending on how things went. It was not the average drunk or paper cut call. Shani gave Catherine a look when she said she was good for this.
There was no mind reading involved but something had the woman bugged. “Do you want to stand him up here then?” Shani offered knowing it was not the sort of thing they could do but she could at least try to lighten the mood. “I’ll make sure to drive extra erratic when we get him, make sure he knows not to stand up a good person.” She offered though was her driving usually anything but erratic, well on the best day it could never be described as smooth. Shani was grateful for the distraction, as she glanced at the building.
“McGuire on the way too.” She said into her radio as she heard something about a fire-fighter biting someone. Shani followed Catherine with her hands full of bags and kit. “Do we trust the fire guys who are threatening to bite people now? Maybe we need rabies shots?” She suggested deciding that completely ridiculous conversation was about as distracting as it was going to get as she followed Catherine and one of the firemen. When she heard Hudson say they were bringing fifty eight to the party she rolled her eyes. Another day in paradise she though, ten minutes and they would be free and clear nothing to it she thought silently trying to think of the outside while inside.

Kelle nodded when Steven admonished her to double check everything...she already had, but she did it again, not at all insulted...you could never check enough!
"You, too," she chided, then she grinned behind her mask. "Rather trust a bunch of hunky firemen than cops, right?" It was a 'friendly' rivalry between Law and Fire, EMS getting clumped in with Fire, and really, they were in more situations where they were counting on the cops for their safety -- shootings, stabbings, assaults, psych patients.
Of course, in truth, they were all part of the same 'family' and would do what they had to to protect each other.
"Ready, let's go do this...you said it, there's an espresso and a brownie with our names on it!"

“It’s going good Peter, just hanging here with you and fifty one. Got any plans tonight?”Did he have plans that that night? He could not exactly remember, though something about having a coffee date seemed to be important but he could not remember when he was supposed to go. Peter took a slow breath and shrugged as best he could, "I was planning on getting some food and catching up on my Netflix." he replied after a moment, a nice quiet night in, but he knew once this was all over he wouldn't be going home right away. That is if he got out of there. As the first chunk of rubble fell on him Peter grunted in pain, for whatever reason it did not hurt that bad, at least compared to everything else that already hurt. That was before more fell on top of him, he felt something else crack. This time Peter moaned and closed his eyes, he so badly wanted to go to sleep, everything hurt now. “Peter talk to me, what hurts and where? Can you move or not?” Ben kept talking to him even though noise made his head hurt, Peter took a while to reply, he was trying to make himself focus but his brain kept drifting off. "My left side...I can't feel my leg..." he coughed, bringing up more blood again, "Right side seems okay. I am pretty sure I can move my right leg." lordy talking took a lot out of him, but it made him stay awake. He was quiet for a little longer, he was still pinned, the building was coming down around them and he knew his body was getting tired from the beating it was taking. Yet the firefighters were staying, trying their best to get both of them out alive, even though it seemed like they would only succeed in getting one. But one was better than none. "Ben...if something happens to me, you take care of her." once again he could not remember why he felt the urge to say that, but it was a strong one. And he knew he could trust Ben if something happened. Peter Off RadioTag: Benjamin Taylor , anyone else in the madness
