No matter how hard he and the others tried to life the piece of plywood it wouldn't budge.
"I was planning on getting some food and catching up on my Netflix."
He heard Peter reply and all he could do was laugh. Pinned under a ton of building and he was cracking jokes. In all this insanity Peter still had his sense of humor. He had to admire the man.
"My left side...I can't feel my leg..." he coughed, bringing up more blood again, "Right side seems okay. I am pretty sure I can move my right leg."
The cough and blood reminded him of what a serious position Peter was in. Stephanie was moved some of the rubble shifted. Dean feared the worst had happened.
"Peter! You alright?" he asked him. He was afraid the rubble would crush him even more.
"PETER!!"

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Floor Six “Stephanie you’ve got to listen to me. It’s Dawson. I don’t say this often but you need to calm down before I make you. Don’t make me swap back to the dark side of the paramedics. Do you want to tell me why we are all in here and not just spraying the windows with water?” Stephanie was listening to Dawson as she felt the woman grab for her hand. “Is Peter okay? I couldn’t see… Gabby tell me he is okay” because of the angle of the debris Stephanie couldn’t tell that Peter’s upper body and head weren’t pinned down. Stephanie tried to sit up but realized she couldn’t. Gabby was trying to distract her. “I was clearing seven when the cave in happened. I saw the fall… I was just doing my job when my rope broke loose. I don’t know how it broke… just… Gabby tell me he is okay. Please!!!” The distraction hadn’t worked very long, then again with Stephanie it never did. “I’ve got a family member here for Stephanie and a dad. She just bit one of my men and I swear I’ll get her go into that building if you don’t come down here and calm this nut case down. Kowalski this is your fire fighters family, I want her out of here or arrested.” “Hey twenty three, you call her a nut anything again I’ll make sure that it’s me that bites you. Touch her you’ll regret it.” “Stephanie talk to me about Grace, does she take to biting a lot? Or just a general nutcase?” Grabbing her radio at her side she took a deep breath as she clicked the button. “Hey nutcase. Stop biting the command staff.” She fired off into the radio at the teenager. “I need you to do something for me” she continued as the Chief of twenty- three handed Grace the radio. “Can you go sit in the truck and wait for us okay. Your dad is right here too.” She wasn’t lying Ben WAS there, albeit not next to her but he was there. “ You don’t want to worry him right?” she offered as she set the radio down. Stephanie was making an effort to calm down but now she had Grace to worry about also. Turning to Dawson she couldn’t help but crack a smile. Really she wanted to laugh but oh she knew how that was going to hurt. Not that she wasn’t in pain right now. The debris in her side was far from comfortable. “She’s a worried a teenager. You remember the teenage hormones” she knew most women remembered their rebel teen years if they went through them. "Ben...if something happens to me, you take care of her." Something that had caught her vocals and it made her worry. That wasn’t something Peter would usually say. “Maybe you will get that pretty nurse in the hospital again Peter” she choked out, trying to sound normal. Stephanie knew Davidson had been changed careers and was now a paramedic with fifty eight. If he even remembered the woman. Stephanie rolled her head back up to look at Dawson and tears started streaming down her face, letting the radio crash to the ground, dangling on its holder. Losing Peter wasn’t an option. Stephanie was cold and yet sweating profusely. Her breathing was getting more irregular. The greyish tones to her skin were becoming clearer as she losing sense of what was trying to focus on. we've lost it all my heart is beating im gonna pass the test
Ascending from Ground Floor
"I'm here. Everything's all good. I'm heading out. Got too thick in there” When he heard Kelly’s Voice come over the radio he relaxed just a little bit. He was about to say something but then Kelly cut in again. "Coming out. What do you guys need from me?"
Right okay. With the chief tied up it seems like Matt was the one trying to keep everyone in order. Well he also knew that Kelly was not exactly in the best mind frame. None of them would be, but Kelly had been close to Shay and Andy both. This wasn’t going to be easy on any of them but Matt was worried about Kelly. Using this as an excuse to check on the other Lieutenant he headed down to bring the medics up.
“On it Lieutenant.”
He heard Dawson as he left the room. “Severide meet me on the ground floor. Ambulance 61 and 58 could use a hand.” He was down to the bottom as quickly as he could. Single persons could get in and out by the ladder, but due to the failing structure there was no way that 2 medics and a backboard would be able to go out that window or in it for that matter. Once on the ground floor he looked over to Hudson who was on the radio.
“We’re waiting for our escort. Who’s picking us up this fine evening?”
“Right behind you.” He stated. Though once Kelly joined them he motioned for the others to follow. “Otis you still remember how to count? Make sure no one falls behind” he stated as the group headed inside.
Though Matt was heading the way with Kelly, he decided to check in with the guy. “You holding up alright?” he asked loud enough for him to hear but quiet enough that the whole group didn’t catch wind of what was being discussed. Matt shoved some debris out of the way so the medics could get by.
Picking up his radio again. “I’m going to need another ladder south side window. Floor six so we can get everyone out of here quickly.” Right so they could get the medics up at the same time they were getting them an escape route.

Ascending from Ground Floor “Be there before you know it Harris’s plus we’re bringing Ambulance Fifty Eight to the party.” Even Catherine had to roll her eyes at that as she heard him over the radio. Did he really think it was a party? This was not her idea of fun at all. Making it the equivalent of a party… even for her that was a stretch. The friendly rivalry between 61 and 58 dove deep into the fact that Shani and Hudson had once been partners and so now everything was a challenge for the group. In this case Fifty Eight had the handicap with the paramedic afraid of the flames. “Do you want to stand him up here then? I’ll make sure to drive extra erratic when we get him, make sure he knows not to stand up a good person.” If anyone could make her laugh it was her partner. She was thankful for that. “As much as I would like to do that, I would also like him to live so I can harass him” she replied trying to make light of it. Well she didn’t’ really want to harass Peter, but they did need to have a discussion. Catherine did kind of want the coffee date with the guy still. He was awkward but she thought it was adorable. “Do we trust the fire guys who are threatening to bite people now? Maybe we need rabies shots?” “Taylor is harmless, it’s his girl you should watch out for. I think you might need a few rabies shots by the time you get through with her. Why you think I let Sixty One take that?” she mused as Matt showed up. Fixing her Oxygen Mask she started up after the other ambulance medics. She had grabbed a second tank just in case. “Maybe you will get that pretty nurse in the hospital again Peter” Catherine couldn’t help but chuckle as she grabbed the radio. “Hospitals are overrated” she teased back over the radio. @peanut, Steven Hudson, Kelle Lindsay, EMTP, Shani McGuire, @kellyseveride, @mattTemplate by Ulla of Adoxography

Gabby glanced over to Peter; no he was not okay but then was that going to help Stephanie right now. Probably not. “He will be okay Stephanie, let’s just concentrate on you right now.” She said firmly deciding that will be okay was better than a detailed explanation of what she saw as a medic and a fire-fighter. “He will be fine, you have the best working on it Stephanie you know it. Trust us to do our job and you just focus on you.” She said firmly deciding that if distraction was beyond working then she could at least tell the woman what she needed to do.
Like that was going to work. Gabby had never been a fan of family turning up at fires but in this case it was perfect timing in her eyes. Grace was the much needed distraction when Gabby listened to Stephanie fire off into the radio. Biting command staff was always going to be a no no but then there were a few people she would make an exception for. It was good to see Stephanie smile and Gabby could not help but see how much Grace had to do with that.
“Oh I remember them alright; moody, angry at the world then one day it all went away. Cant say I ever bit anyone though.” She said thoughtfully with a grin. Then came the most heart breaking words she could have heard anyone say let alone Peter who was now trapped under rubble. Gabby saw Stephanie and her tears that started streaming down her face. With the radio crashing to the ground Gabby moved to offer her an awkward hug. “He will be okay, not like he isn’t the biggest pain in the backside the house has for a paramedic.” She offered trying to be positive about the whole thing.
“You won’t lose him and he won’t lose you. Just stay with me Stephanie, tell me more about Grace? You and the nutcase have any plans this weekend?” She asked seeing the sweating, breathing and greyish tones that screamed the medics needed to be there hours ago. “Lieutenants we need those medics here now!” Gabby snapped into her radio as she tried to be nice but where did that ever get her.
Gabby shrugged off her turnout coat, broken rule number one but she needed to keep Stephanie warm somehow as she placed it over the woman careful of the debris sticking out of her. "Stephanie, just going to move your feet a little okay." Gabby moved herself to become a rest for her feet to keep them elevated as she tried to keep Stephanie from going completely into shock. The medics needed to get there now because she had little to work with and none of the medics equipment.

Ben nodded and laughed lightly, “They pay you medics too much if you can get Netflix.” He teased though when the rubble started falling it was entirely a nightmare as he hoped that Peter was still alive under it all. Hearing the guy moan Ben knew it was not going to be good though how anything good could come from debris falling. Well he was simply hoping for life right now, everything else was a bonus if Peter was awake and talking the rest was just the work to be done.
The time to reply was too long as Ben started to move certain pieces of rubble off him. There was no rush to it just in case he dislodged the wrong piece and it either made something worse or freed up pressure that was keeping him alive somehow. It was like playing Jenga with Grace except the worst that happened at home was wooden blocks all over the floor. This was life or death which was something he was a lot more serious about. “It’s probably just the way you’re stuck that you can’t feel your leg.” Ben suggested though as a paramedic Peter would know better.
Ben was trying to be optimistic about things but he found it tough when he was faced with Stephanie’s brother telling him bad news. “I’ll start moving things from your life side but you tell me if anything hurts okay? Just keep talking to me.” He said as he went above moving piece by piece off Peter trying to work as fast as possible. When Peter spoke the words about taking care of Stephanie he felt the lump in his throat as he tried to push emotion as far away from what he was doing as possible. His daughter was outside, Stephanie was talking to her and now Peter was acting as if this was it.
This so was not going to be it for anyone of them. “You know I would Peter but you can get off your backside after you’ve finished laying around and do that yourself. I’m not your butler you know.” He jested trying to at least get him to not give up on anything even if it did mean jibing him slightly. “Ooh Peter, do tell about this pretty nurse.. you kept that quiet?” Ben asked with a smirk as he kept moving piece by piece waiting on any sound or motion that Peter was in more pain than he already was.

“You’d rather hunky firemen? Wow Kelle I had no idea.” He said with a grin as he nodded. Trust their own over the blue wall any day he thought. He trusted the police but then he had to stand with the department over them every time, it was more a pride thing and after all there were those occasions where busting the chops of a cop was fun to do. Nothing bad but just some teasing about who was better or what calls were best and of course what uniform was better.
“Nothing will keep us from those brownies.” He said with conviction, no there was going to be nothing that would stand in their way from a sugar rush after this call. Steven grinned when he heard the ‘right behind you’ and he saw Kelly join them too. The two Lieutenants, well he did feel a little easier about going in now given the class of escorts they had on their side. “You enjoy being behind because us medics are always in first.” He joked trying to light then situation a little. “Must be a fire-fighter thing.”
Steven followed them in as he kept a close eye on Kelle as he watched Matt move some debris out of the way as he turned toward her. “You okay?” He asked concerned as this was not the normal day for them at all.

Shani nodded to Catherine when she spoke about harassing Harris. “Oh now that sounds like a fun day. So it’s his lucky day, to be saved by the A-team and then harassed too, the guy should be so lucky.” She stated with a grin, Shani would be the first to just yell at the guy for not being nice to Catherine but given that Peter was already having a pretty bad day by all accounts she would maybe hold off until later for the, ‘don’t mess with my partner’ talk.
“Guess rabies runs in the family then.” Shani muttered not sure if it was the father or daughter to just steer clear of. “Good call, sixty one can deal with the crazy ones we only want the ones that we can harass.” Shani wondered what people would think if they caught any part of the conversation in half but then Matt showed up and things started to get underway. Shani smirked as she decided to add to things a little. “Pretty nurse has been set free in the world.” Shani said over the radio before she glared at Hudson though she appreciated the guy looking after his partner. Shani glanced toward Catherine again, “You sure you’re okay with this?” She asked trying to relax herself as this was not in the regular play book. “Keep your eyes open and don’t stray off the path. We have to follow the bugles up the yellow brick road.” She stated smiling sweetly toward both Casey and Severide oh this was going to be a day she wanted to just get home alive from she thought silently.

Peter did not hear Bens comment about his Netflix, he had started zoning out again, “It’s probably just the way you’re stuck that you can’t feel your leg.” Ben moved something and Peter gave a yell of pain, some of the pressure on his body was gone but with that came more pain. "No...when I say I can't feel it.....I can't...." he said as he gritted his teeth. His left leg was now screaming in pain, Peter took a deep breath despite the fact that his chest also hurt, “I’ll start moving things from your life side but you tell me if anything hurts okay? Just keep talking to me.” Talking, something that was usually very easy for Peter to do was actually getting harder and harder to do. He shivered but his skin was hot to the touch, he couldn't feel his pulse but it was growing weaker as his heart tried to keep his blood pressure up. “You know I would Peter but you can get off your backside after you’ve finished laying around and do that yourself. I’m not your butler you know.” He wanted to laugh so bad, bur when he tried he just ended up coughing again, his mouth tasted like he had been sucking on pennies for several days. He was getting tired of tasting blood. “Ooh Peter, do tell about this pretty nurse.. you kept that quiet?”"You mean the one with the great legs who doesn't seem to care that I am not a big fan of needles?" he managed a chuckle only to wince in pain as Ben moved something off of him, he could now move his left arm, though not without a good deal of pain. Peter went quiet again, he tried to remember the nurse Ben spoke of, Peter knew several nurses but he had a feeling there had been on in particular that had caught his eye for more reasons than looks. "I’ve got a family member here for Stephanie and a dad. She just bit one of my men and I swear I’ll get her go into that building if you don’t come down here and calm this nut case down. Kowalski this is your fire fighters family, I want her out of here or arrested."Dean's attention was drawn to the outside of the building. Something about a family member biting one of Lt. Clark's men. "What the ...?" he frowned as he spoke to himself. Had he not had his helmet on he'd scratched his head trying to figure what was going on. “Hey twenty three, you call her a nut anything again I’ll make sure that it’s me that bites you. Touch her you’ll regret it.”
“Stephanie talk to me about Grace, does she take to biting a lot? Or just a general nutcase?”He had more important things to worry about than who was biting who. Like saving both Peter and Stephanie but then he began to piece things together. Like maybe this was the fore mentioned people's child. "Everybody keep your teeth to yourselves. I'm coming down." "You all do your best to take care of Peter and Stephanie and get yourselves down safely as well," he told the rest of them. "I'll try to get back ASAP."With a disgusted sigh he turned to leave, hoping he'd make it down before the rest of the building came down on their heads. Except for those two floors the rest of the building was in fairly good shape except for the smoke. Grace Taylor , Any Dean via Radio

Grace was worried, it was what she did every time they were on shift and that was no different. Say goodbye, never say anything bad to either of them and just hope and pray they came back at the end of it all. That call was the first one she had seen on the TV, the first one where it wasn’t after the fact and sitting around waiting for either of them to text or call or just come home felt like the wrong thing to do. Grace was still struggling with one guy who had her pinned to the truck. Fighting had never been her thing as she felt herself getting tired when she heard Stephanie over a radio. Grace snickered when Stephanie called her a nutcase, well biting people wasn’t her thing but they shouldn’t have stopped her she decided before she nodded as if Stephanie would see her some how. “I’ll go wait in the truck Stephanie, I don’t want to worry either of you guys but I saw it on TV and I want to help.” She admitted seeing the look the fire fighter gave her as she mumbled something about getting a hand off her. ““No you’re right; I don’t want to worry him or you. I’ll be in the truck.” Grace said as the Chief of Twenty Three took the radio away once she had finished.
She had every intention of doing what Stephanie said and getting in the truck. She did just that as she hauled herself into the Squad truck looking around the space for a moment as she tried to settle herself as she watched the others go about their jobs outside. She could see a gang of paramedics heading inside as Grace furrowed her brow. Everything her dad had told her and the medics were always on the outside unless he just didnt want her to pick paramedic as a career choice. Grace thought little of it until the fire fighter appeared at the Squad Truck door to guard it.
It was then the radio chatter caught her attention. The radio of the fire fighter said something about a paramedic being hurt. It explained the gang she thought to herself as she slid out of the truck and stood next to the fire fighter. Then she heard it, words between those fire fighters she didnt know at all from a different house. Stephanie Harris had been hurt, something sticking out of her and a medic in the rubble. Grace barely had time to open her mouth before she felt the fire fighter’s hands on her shoulder firmly.
Grace grabbed for the guy’s radio pulling it down to her level as the guy seemed to come with the radio too. “Stephanie.” She cried over the radio, ““Stephanie you have to be okay... please you’ve got to be alright.” Grace practically sobbed as the fire fighter lightened his grip on her as Grace thought about the school letters he had in her bag that day. “I need you to come with me shopping with a few other mums from school for the dance next month. It’s a mum thing to do and I want you to go with me.” Grace stated though before she could hear an answer Grace kicked out at the fire fighter striking him in the shins which caused the guy to yell out in pain.
The fire fighter radioed that Grace was heading for the building before he added that she had gotten into it as far as he could see. “Kowalski, that nutcase has entered the building. All yours now.” The fire fighter snapped as he went back to what he had been doing before the Chief had landed him with babysitting duty.
So help her would drag Stephanie out herself if no one else was going to do it and get dad too. Grace didn’t care where she was heading as she by passed a few people who only realised what was going on after hearing the calls to stop her too late. She kept well clear of the gang of paramedics that entered the building as she found a different way in onto the ground floor as she decided to run up the nearest flight of stairs she could find. It took her a while before Grace started climbing what she thought was stairs but between the smoke and her coughing it was tough to find what was where as she wondered aimlessly yelling out for Ben and Stephanie.
Grace over someone elses radio.

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Floor Six “He will be okay Stephanie, let’s just concentrate on you right now. He will be fine, you have the best working on it Stephanie you know it. Trust us to do our job and you just focus on you.” Yeah well she knew those words. She knew those words were reserved for when things were in really bad condition and all she could do right now was break down and cry. As much as she wanted to fight with Gabby and move, it hurt to move. “I can’t lose him Gabby. I can’t” she protested. She was really upset as she heard Grace come in over the radio. Even Gabby’s positivity wasn’t helping as she could hear the other conversation. It was soft but it was audible from where she was. “I’ll go wait in the truck Stephanie, I don’t want to worry either of you guys but I saw it on TV and I want to help. No you’re right; I don’t want to worry him or you. I’ll be in the truck” Stephanie forced a small smile on her face. “Hang in there Grace. We will be out soon” she encouraged her though. When she heard the next words she sighed. “Stephanie you have to be okay... please you’ve got to be alright. I need you to come with me shopping with a few other mums from school for the dance next month. It’s a mum thing to do and I want you to go with me.” “I will be there Grace. I promise. Right now the best thing you can do is to calm down and stay put.” Too late. The girl had already run into the building. “Kowalski, that nutcase has entered the building. All yours now.” Eyes flashed in fear. Though with her body trying to go into shock she was almost frozen in place. Moving wasn’t easy but she was aware of what was going on around her. Her looks at Gabby told the story of everything she was feeling at the moment. She was too weak to keep her wall up. Stephanie was scared out of her mind. Tears were still falling. No she couldn’t lose Peter and Grace right now. “Pretty nurse has been set free in the world.” The thought was amusing. At least Peter would be able to see her. That gave Stephanie some comfort even though she wasn’t at all at ease about the situation. “Lieutenants we need those medics here now!” Stephanie didn’t like how this was going. She was worried and cold and why was Gabby taking off her uniform? No this wasn’t right but Stephanie didn’t understand it was cold and it shouldn’t be cold. Steph RadioSteph No Radio

Floor Four to Floor Six “Lieutenants we need those medics here now!” “On the way Dawson. 2 more floors to go” he replied as he clicked into his radio. As he shoved the debris out of the way he moved faster letting them pick up a much faster pace through the next few floors. He remembered the way that he and Gabby had gotten up from the 4th floor. Leading the others over to where they were going. Catherine heard the radio as they were somewhere between floors 3 and 4. “Oh now that sounds like a fun day. So it’s his lucky day, to be saved by the A-team and then harassed too, the guy should be so lucky.” “He’s adorable Shani. Shush” she said now as she defended Peter. Well she did kind of have a thing for the guy. “Pretty nurse has been set free in the world.” Catherine gave Shani a look that said there was going to be payback for that. Why was her partner being like this? She had no idea. “Keep your eyes open and don’t stray off the path. We have to follow the bugles up the yellow brick road.” Yeah she didn’t have a comment to that when they were on the ground floor, but as soon as they made it to the sixth floor she had a smart remark. “Dorothy, we need to let scarecrow attend to Tinman! The lion left the building to find the wicked witch of the west, and we need to get to Kansas” she stated as she made her way over to where Peter was being dug out of the rubble. "Hey stranger" she replied as she checked his pulse. “Kowalski, that nutcase has entered the building. All yours now.”"Kowalski here. 10-4. I see her," he replied into his radio. "GRACE! GRACIE!" he called out to get her attention as he looked around until he spotted her. "Grace! It's Chief Kowalski! I see you! I'm coming! Stay where you are!"Making his way over to where she was, the child looked terrified and confused. His heart ached to see her surrounded by thick smoke. "Grace, I'm here," he reached out for the child and wrapped his arms protectively around her. It was clear the acrid smoke was making it hard for her to breath. Her eyes watered from the poisonous air. Taking off his face mask he placed his over her face so she could get some fresh air. "Let's get you our of here," he told her and picked her up in his arms and, making sure she had the mask securely over her face, carried her out of the building and away from the billowing, dark fog. He didn't realize it but he looked like a movie poster rescuing a child from a burning building. In the distance news cameras clicked as he rushed over to an ambulance and handed her over to a Paramedic. He wasn't going to leave Grace's side. She was a firefighter's family thus making her his family. He would protect her with his very life, if need be. Kelly made his way to the ground floor, breathing through the mask. Should get myself checked out after this is over, he thought, noting that his breathing was a bit raspy. That wasn't a good sign. And Brittany would want him to take care of himself. And he was going to do that. The radio crackled and he heard Matt's voice again, asking him to come to the ground floor saying that he needed some help. "On my way," he said into the radio and then headed down there.
When he finally saw Matt, he headed towards him and walked with him on his way to where Peter was. At his question of how he was doing, he shrugged. "Too much like the day we lost Shay," he answered. "But my head's in the game still and that's all that matters," he stated. I'll lose it later. Right now, the house needs their lieutenant, he thought to himself as Matt radioed the others that he was sending a ladder down. He then looked around in case there was a faster way to get to them. Don't see anything, he thought to himself.
OOC I didn't write what the others are doing because Kelly and Matt aren't there yet so Kelly wouldn't know what everyone else is doing.
