Ben heard the call over the radio and Stephanie’s voice. Ben was busy dragging a man with Cruz toward a window as he realised they were higher up only a floor between them and the collapsed one. They both shared a look as Cruz broke the glass and they waited on the ladder reaching them. It seemed to take forever as the guy was handed off to another fire-fighter as Ben and Cruz both motioned toward getting down a few floors and quickly. They finished their searches of the ninth and tenth floors before making for the exit.
“Stephanie, Cruz and I are on our way.” He said over the radio hearing the pain in her voice as he tried not to yell at her and list the top ten reasons he wanted her on the outside of a burning building. “And you let her go?” Ben almost yelled as Cruz snatched his radio to stop him speaking further. “Doing your job Capp.” Cruz said before he shoved Ben lightly. Floors ten to nine were easy enough and nine to eight were just as easy until Ben threw open the door from eight to seven to find no way down. Cruz almost barrelled into the back of him as he shoved them both away from the door.
“No way down, to seven too much debris.” Cruz said as Ben swore loudly as he motioned to the far end of the floor seeing another exit sign that glimmered. It seemed to take forever to get to the other side of the floor as the smoke was much thicker. Ben kept his hand linked with Cruz as they felt for the walls before forcing open the second door. Twisted metal and concrete blocked their way again as Cruz got onto his radio. “Cruz and Taylor, we’ve got now way down to floor seven from eight. The routes blocked.” He announced, “Heading to the ladder and we’ll join from floor four or five. Lieutenant you good with that?” Cruz asked as they turned around and headed to the nearest window.
“Harris, speak to me what’s going on?” Ben asked over the radio, “We’ll get you both out just hang in there.” Ben had no idea what was going on other than the building was collapsing floor into floor. That was bad enough without Stephanie being there and a medic too. He almost wanted to question why the medic was in the building because last he knew the medics stayed outside until it was safe as the fire department had only just stated to clear the building.

Sometimes he wanted to go in to help but then he knew there was no way it was possible. What use were they if they were unable to help. Still being on the outside and hearing the radio chatter about floors falling in, fire-fighters trapped and worse than that a medic in there too. Steven gave Kelle a look that almost said ‘you’ve got to be kidding’ though the radio’s proved otherwise.
Steven tried not to think too much on it as there were hysterical people all around. They were the ones who had to keep their heads screwed on straight; he almost wanted to scream at a woman for crying over her handbag that was in the building. A handbag versus two of their own, it was no contest unless the handbag contained a person which it never did. When he head which ambulance it was he winced as he saw another few ambulance crews arrive and start to help with Triage.
“Peter Harris, Harris answer your radio.” He barked into his own radio as he handed off triage to another medic. Steven had no idea who Harris was partnered with so he stuck with the name her knew for ambulance twenty four. He hoped it was a case of console from outside rather than he was the guy in there. Steven looked toward Kelle, “Jacket, helmet, bags and gurney.” He said as he motioned toward the fire department trucks. “Fancy directing traffic and picking up any of our own?” He asked her not sure if she wanted to get much closer to it but then better to get them straight out and into the ambulance than wonder triage.

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Floor 6 "Kowalski here along with Otis and Kidd. We're making our way over to both the paramedic and Harris.""What happened? What am I doing here?" Two questions she didn't want to hear. "I'm going to need 2 ambulances on standby." She called over the radio. Looking towards Peter she took her mask off. She was going to have an easier time breathing that he was. 'Im so getting written up for this if I make it out of here' she thought as she maneuvered in such a way that she could make sure he kept the mask on his face. Then she worked on trying to stop her own bleeding. She wasn't a paramedic but she knew the basics until the paramedics got there. Screw asking. "Saturn" she called out. Trying to see what he remembered and what he didn't. "Hang in here, we will get you out of here okay?" she just treated him like she would anyone hurt. If she forced him to try and remember there was going to be another fight. "Dawson reporting"
“Stephanie, Cruz and I are on our way."
"Lower me down she says"
"And you let her go"
"Doing your job capp" "I held him hostage he didn't have a choice" Right because humour solved everything. Well in this case it did. “Cruz and Taylor, we’ve got now way down to floor seven from eight. The routes blocked.” Well if seven and eight were blocked then 9 and 1o weren't going to be able to go come down either. That never went well. “Harris, speak to me what’s going on?”Stephanie took in a breathe of the air around her. There was an airpocket for now. Though it was full of dust and debris. The fire hadn't gotten here yet. But it meant there was still air. "I saw the collapse. I went after our medic. My rope broke." This was a terrible time for equipment to break. "We've got a paramedic with head trauma. I've jammed my shoulder up and stopped the bleeding to my side for now. Our medic is pinned under the debris. I'm pinned on top of him. The fire hasn't reached us." She coughed not realizing her button was still pressed down. Crap. “Peter Harris, Harris answer your radio.”Crap she had purposefully avoided giving out her brother's name... too late now. "He can't... he's pinned under me. He doesn't know what happened." she stated as she felt like throwing her radio. No BAD idea. we've lost it all my heart is beating im gonna pass the test
Floor 4
When Dawson came over the radio it was much appreciated. Though he could see her maybe it would aid the others in doing the same. He gave her a thankful look. He nodded when she asked if they were going up. "Stay close" he didn't want her wandering where the floor might sink in. He made his way to the exit and headed for the stairs. He pushed on the stairs a little bit with his boot. Then he backed up and put his hands back so Gabby wouldn't keep moving. "Floor is too unstable. Can't get up from 4!" He slammed his fist into the wall.
Okay Matt think. No "Where is the other way up Dawson?" he asked as he looked towards her. Okay he was going to give her something to do, make her feel useful and he didn't really remember where he had seen the other exit. Oh crap. He didn't remember. Nope he wasn't going to admit that, he was just going to go with he hadn't seen it if she asked. That was much safer and it wasn't exactly like she could see his face right now to call him on a lie. No. Matt Don't lie to Gabby, just... okay no. Focus.

Enroute Catherine felt like running into the building herself. That came in over the radio before the call for two ambulances on standby. That meant they were going to need another for triage. So the call had come down from Main. "Ambulance 58 en route" she called over the radio. It was probably a good thing her partner was driving they might put the rig off over the cliff. Something wasn't right and now Catherine was looking distressed. "58 to 61, whose Paramedic in charge on scene?" she called. She wasn't sure if 61 had gotten there first or if another ambulance had. It was up to them to decide what was going to happen but she wanted to get her head on straight before things went to hell in a hand basket. No wait they were already there. Looking over to Shani she tried to gather her head. She couldn't lose herself in thought right now. Focus Catherine Focus. "What happened? What am I doing here?"Peter Harris' voice could be heard over the radio but his voice was sounding weaker with each word. “Harris, speak to me what’s going on?”"He can't... he's pinned under me. He doesn't know what happened."Desperation! That was the theme at the moment. The fire was still raging and the heat would have been unbearable except for the suit they were wearing. The only good thing was the two fire fighters were also wearing their suits. Hopefully neither had torn. If so the acrid smoke would fill their helmets and that was a very bad thing, as his instructor used to tell him when he first entered the Academy. “Stephanie, Cruz and I are on our way.”Taylor and Cruz. Good, they were going to need all the help they could get to get both team members out safely. "TAYLOR! CRUZ! OVER HERE! he waved his arms so they could see him. Stephanie was easier to find. She was talking nonstop on her radio which brought an amused smirk to his face. His wife and daughter could talk up a storm on the phone and he used to get a bit miffed as they would talk on-and-on about literally nothing to their perspective parties. I mean, how many ways could you bake a meatloaf or decide whether to curl or straighten your hair? Good grief! But hearing Stephanie talking helped him and his two guys, Otis and Kidd find her. Of course the constant beeping of her pass device also helped. First thing he noticed was her mask was off and that had given it to Peter Harris. Hey Kiddo!" he greeted her when the three of them finally reached her position. "How ya' doin'?"Looking her over he ran his hands over her trying to determine where she was injured and how badly. Her mask was off. She had something stuck in her side and she was bleeding badly. "We need to get you outta here and now but you got what looks like a piece of wood stuck in you. I'm going to try to pull it out and have Otis and Kidd get you outta here so I can see about your brother. That sound alright with you?"He looked at the two men with him. "Careful, feels like she's got an injured shoulder, too."Taking off his mask he placed it over her face to help her breath and attached it to her O2 intake. Outside“Jacket, helmet, bags and gurney.”"Got it!" Kelle gave him a quick nod, inwardly grateful that he had made that choice...it was tough being assigned to more passive tasks when some of your own were in danger. Reaching in the cab, she grabbed her light turn-out coat and helmet, slipping them on, then moved around back to help pull out the gurney. They might not be going in, but they would be ready right there when the victims were brought out. “Fancy directing traffic and picking up any of our own?” "Right with you." Sure, there were other units here that could handle it, but these were their brothers, from their house, and it just wouldn't do to have anyone else handle them, and everyone understood that. "58 to 61, whose Paramedic in charge on scene?"Kelle glanced at Steven and grinned...another of their own coming in... "Medic 47 is running medical IC," she replied, "Albino's in charge, but he said to have you go ahead and pull in by us." That way, 58 could just bypass triage and park next to them, and be ready when the victims that were still inside were brought out. In the mean time, it was the awful waiting game that could give even the best person an ulcer! Steven Hudson @catherine

Kelly made his way up to the eighth floor. "Fire department! Call out!" he shouted. Oh, he didn't like this. He had a bad feeling about it. He listened to the chatter on the radio as he continued searching. "Fire department! Call out!" he exclaimed again. However, there was only silence. But he didn't want to give up. Surely they still had some more time. A couple more minutes. I'll give it a couple more minutes and then head back out, he thought to himself.
A few moments later, he had no choice but to head back out. Damn, it's thick in there, he thought. Yeah, it was definitely time to hide on back. As he did so, he listened to the chatter and his eyes flashed in concern when he heard what was going on. They had guys trapped and a medic pinned. This was as bad as when they had lost Shay. Oh g-d. Please don't let it happen again...

His ears were ringing now and even though he was somewhat awake, he felt like he was in a fog. His head throbbed and he was sure he was bleeding from one if not several cuts on his head. He heard several voices, all seeming to speak, most of them seemed to come from a radio he had on his shoulder. Why did he have a radio? Was he someone important? "Saturn" the woman was speaking to him now, she was a firefighter, "Hang in here, we will get you out of here okay?" Saturn was a weird name, "Why are you calling me Saturn?" he asked with a puzzled look, "What parents names their kid that any-" he did not finish the thought as he started coughing very hard all while trying to catch his breath which did not seem to want to come, in a moment of panic he reached up with his only free hand and pulled the mask that Stephanie had just fixed to his face away, it made him feel claustrophobic. "We've got a paramedic with head trauma. I've jammed my shoulder up and stopped the bleeding to my side for now. Our medic is pinned under the debris. I'm pinned on top of him. The fire hasn't reached us." So he was a paramedic, or so he thought. The radio went off again and he winced and closed his eyes, the woman pinned to him was named Harris, yet another weird name but it was better than Saturn. "I can't feel my arm..." he mumbled before coughing again. This time he tasted something very metallic in his mouth, lifting his head he looked to Harris, "You..." he pointed weakly to her face mask that now lay to the side of him, "You need that on." she needed the good air, he did not know why but he knew she should not have taken the mask off in the first place. "Hey Kiddo! How ya' doin'?" Then came the new voice, someone he did not recognize but the man knew Harris. Or maybe he greetedeveryone that way, he did not know. "We need to get you outta here and now but you got what looks like a piece of wood stuck in you. I'm going to try to pull it out and have Otis and Kidd get you outta here so I can see about your brother. That sound alright with you?"
Peter was doing his best to stay awake, he knew he needed to but between the lack of oxygen, head injury and whatever was going on with the unseen part of the left side of his body, he was struggling. "Be ready to stop the bleeding...." he coughed again, bringing up more blood, "You don't know how deep it goes..." He could not remember who he was, or much of anything but for whatever reason he could recall various medical information. He watched the other firefighter attach his face mask to Stephanie, slowly turning his head he looked to where he had moved her first one after she had tried to place it on him, reaching out his right arm he pointed to it. "Can I get-" he paused, his eyes seemed to widen for a moment before quickly closing, the room was spinning and he could not keep focused on one thing. Tag: Stephanie Taylor @dean

"Why are you calling me Saturn? What parents names their kid that any-"Another much weaker voice came across the radio raising concern as Dean looked at his companions, Otis and Kidd. There was no doubt the firefighter below them was in serious trouble but they needed to get Stephanie stable enough to move. "Stephanie," he spoke to her, "I don't dare pull that piece of wood out. I'm afraid I could do more damage than good. But these guys are going to take you out of the building so the paramedics can take over. I'll take care of Peter.""Be ready to stop the bleeding...." he coughed again, bringing up more blood, "You don't know how deep it goes...Can I get-"Taking his mask off of Stephanie and unhooking it he moved down to see about Peter. Quickly taking Steph's mask away he then replaced it with his own then tossed Steph's mask to the guys with her. "Peter," he spoke to the injured man. "I'm Dean. How you doing?" he asked him, also looking him over. Peter was in a bad shape and in a dangerous position. "HOLD ON!!!" he called over to Otis and Kidd, his hand in the stop position. "DON'T MOVE HER JUST YET!" Pressing down on his radio he spoke into it. "We need medics on floor six. Stat.
"We have a female firefighter and a male paramedic with severe injuries. The female has a piece of wood embedded in her side and an injured shoulder. We have slowed the flow of blood but not stopped it.
"The male is trapped under some rubble bleeding badly from his head and mouth. He is delirious and loosing consciousness. I'm afraid if we move the female the male could be crushed to death.
"The fire has not spread to this area as of yet but am not sure how long it can be held off. We need help now! NOW!" And as an afterthought he added, "And bring another O2 mask when you come."Kelle Lindsay, EMTP, Stephanie Taylor, @peanut, ANY Dean via Radio

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Floor 6 "Why are you calling me Saturn?" Oh Peter really didn't remember did he? Her heart fell. He needed medical attention. When he fought her about the mask she just shook her head. "I can breathe on my own. A little dust never hurt a thing" she quipped lightly. She saw the chief waving for Taylor and Cruz. 'No don't let Ben see this' she thought to herself, though she had a feeling it was too late. "Hey Kiddo, How ya' doin?" Okay well about the only person who had ever called her Kiddo and gotten away with it, was her birth dad. Usually she lashed out at them since Don was dead. She didn't have the heart to lash out at the chief. "Be ready to stop the bleeding...." "He's right chief. Don't take it out." Stephanie hated ambulances and she was asking for one. "Just do me a favor? See if you can get 61 to take me?" Stephanie trusted Hudson but that was a long story that not many knew. There were only a handful of medics who could really get close to her. Others risked a black eye simply for the fact she didn't like being touched by people. She felt the airmask over her face. "Do I look like a fluffy kitten chief?" she snapped feeling someone touching her, though knowing he had to touch her to check her for injuries she still snapped at him. Just being touched didn't sit well with her. When Otis and Kidd came towards her they removed her entire tank from her back but left the mask on Stephanie's face in the meantime. Kidd looked towards the chief as she spoke. "We need to stabilize that splinter before we move her." A back board would have been preferable but they didn't have that luxury. She immediately started doing an emergency wrap to stabilize the wood in Stephanie's side. "Stephanie lay still" she chided lightly. "Get me out of here?" She was breathing heavy. They were going to need to get a backboard to transport her. "Peter hit his head pretty hard. He doesn't remember who I am." She looked towards Dean and sighed as she waited on medics. They were the last people she wanted to see. Steph no radioStella Kidd no radio

Pulling into the chaos Catherine heard Kelle on the radio. "Copy that" she said tossing the radio lightly in it's place. Catherine was level headed in a series of things but... Peter had been the one who had stood her up at the coffee shop. She remembered the other Harris from trying to treat her. Then a thought hit her. Grabbing the radio again she spoke. "Stephanie isn't going to let much of anyone near her Lindsay. It will make things a lot easier on everyone if you guys transport her. She trusts Hudson, by extension maybe you will be the lucky one." There was no need to explain that last time to get a simply oxygen mask on Stephanie took 2 paramedics, a disgruntled firefighter, and a scared teenager. Even then it landed on the floor. Then there was Peter, who good luck getting him to sit still for more than 5 minutes. He could drive anyone insane. Though maybe Catherine could reason with him? Getting them treated was the priority but she wanted things to go as smoothly as they could on an already rocky day. Cat RadioKelle Lindsay, EMTP, Steven HudsonTemplate by Ulla of Adoxography

Gabby heard his stay close and that was one thing she would do without hesitation. In her head she was looking out for him, his head hardly needed another hit and if she was there then it was better in her mind. Gabby stayed closed behind him before she walked into his hands before she stopped. She heard him explain over the radio and she wanted to just throw herself up those stairs without a second thought. She fought with herself if she needed to argue with him over it but came up sort without stamping her feet.
Given the situation she doubted it would be good. Gabby gave him a look as she wondered what he was meaning, surely he knew they had just passed it a while back? She pushed it to the back of her mind glad for something to do as she patted Matt on the arm and tried to point out their route. “Casey follow me.” She said happy for the distraction though she was caught between two minds if he had forgotten or he was trying to give her something to do.
“Oh Lieutenant, Stay close don’t want you wondering off.” She said before she turned tail and started finding her way back to the route for the second exit. “We’ll be there as soon as, looking for a second route.” Gabby explained over the radio as she heard the call for the paramedics.

Ben wanted to scream when he heard Stephanie start to be funny, this was hardly the funniest situation and she was hurt. He had no idea what was going on and the radio chatter had him panicking over how badly hurt she was. He listened for Stephanie as she spoke about the equipment failure, it was the worst possible time for that to happen but he could never fight an equipment failure. It was one of those things that could happen at any point and it just happened to be that day with Stephanie.
“Just hang tight and we’ll get you out of there.” Ben said over the radio as they headed for the window. Some smashed glass and a ladder later they were out of one floor and back into another as Ben saw Kowalski waving them over. Ben was thankful for Stephanie’s voice over the radio though when he found out who the medic was he made several assumptions it was why she had followed him to get him out. It was what any of them would have done but family was always a sore point when there was trouble ahead.
Ben made it over to the chief and the others with Cruz too as he looked around trying to work out what best to do. “Chief where do you want us?” Ben asked trying to think of it as any other call. He knew Stephanie would hold a grudge if he lost it again like he had with Grace and having a conversation about staying on the job, he had tried that once and today he simply just wanted to help. He could freak out and fall to pieces later on but right now he had to do his job.
“Want us to take a shot at moving the rubble?” He asked knowing if they moved it more might fall, things could come lose and all in all it might not be so good for the person under it. The medics needed to be there to help he thought. “Steph, well get you both out just take it easy.” He said knowing it was the world’s worst thing to say but then he had to try something to not make her fight the medics.

Steven stayed silent for a moment as he heard Stephanie explain that Peter was pinned and he had no idea what happened. That was bad, that was really really bad he thought though he said nothing. The last thing that was needed was for people to panic because the medics were saying it was bad. He heard the call from Ambulance 58 glad for them to be on their way too. They could use all the help that was available.
He nodded to Kelle, it was turning out to be one of those calls so far and although he might have rather had her wait by the ambulance so he knew at least one person would be safe that night he knew she was one of the best at her job. “Glad you’re the one with me.” He said meaning every word of it, not just for the fact she had stuck with him but he was hardly the sentimental type but he liked her and got on with her or at least he thought he did. That meant a lot to him and with that there was no one else he would rather go to work with.
Steven was glad Kelle answered 58, the waiting was the worst part as he started to run through the possibilities in his head. Drugs needed, supplied they would need first but without actually seeing what they were dealing with it was tough to know. It was Kowalski that had his attention; medics needed down on floor six well that was going to be interesting. He glanced toward Kelle before he motioned to one of the fire trucks and pulled out three oxygen tanks and masks. He placed two on the gurney before he waited for Kelle to reply to 58.
He doubled checked the oxygen and the harness for it before putting on his own tank and mask. “You don’t have to if you don’t want to.” He said giving her the option, “If you do then stick close to me and I won’t let you out of my sight. If we both go in we both come out, that’s a promise.” He stated firmly. There was no chance that he would leave her in there or let anything happen if it could be helped. “Hudson on my way.” He said over the radio as he looked toward Kelle for her answer.
