Steven chuckled and nodded agreeing with her about face, he could see that as he nodded again. “You could charm anyone and no one would resist but then you do that every day in this tin can.” He said grinning, patients seemed to like her and that was half a battle fought and won if the care givers were liked. Then again what was not to like about her, she was smart, funny, beautiful, the sort of woman that was amazing. The A-team had been a favourite show, yes he was how old again as he wondered about showing his age at times. Cagney and Lacey had been his mothers but then he had never really taken to cop shows, he would rather have listened to his dad tell stories about then or just poke at the familiar rivalry that he had been brought up with between the services. After they were parked and at the front door Steven knew to keep his eyes wide open. They had drugs on them that people wanted, they had skills too that were needed in certain situations, there were a long list of reasons why being a paramedic was just as dangerous as being a cop. Still when he heard that sound, linoleum and a walker he knew that they were hardly dealing with the hardened criminal sorts. Even though he knew a few pensioners who could give lot of people a run for their money. “Thanks, we’ll have him fixed up in now time.” Steven said as he took a step into the house. “Where would he be exactly?” Steven asked as the woman motioned to a door off the side of the hallway. Steven pushed the door open to see the man sprawled out on the couch. “Kelle.” He said as he placed his bags down by the couch and went over to the man. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP,

The man didn't look good, he was a bit pale, sweating, moaning a little but not really there. Setting the monitor down close to Steven where he could get the BP cuff on, then she pulled out the EKG cables to get those hooked up. "How long has he been like this?" she asked, glancing at the woman. "What sort of medical problems does he have?" "Is he going to be all right?" The woman has tears in her eyes. "Please don't leave me, Henry." She wasn't going to be much help. "How's his BP?" Kelle asked Steven, "his heart rate is 80...I'll get his sugar while you get the IV." Grabbing the glucometer, she used one of the lancets to poke the man's finger, then smiled a little as she glanced at her partner. "Thirty-nine..." That was something they could fix, provided that was the only issue. Hypoglycemia was one of the things that really made them look like gods to family, when they magically healed their loved one with the push of a syringe! Steven Hudson

Steven went to put the BP cuff on the man as he watched Kelle hook him up to the EKG. The man looked awful by any standard though they were in the right place he thought. Not just a bad case of indigestion he thought lightly though saying that out loud, no very bad idea. Hearing the woman reply, yes there were going to be no straight answers or sense but then how would he react if he was in her shoes. Given what he did for work a lot better but then they needed to know as much as they could. “Ma’am, he’s not leaving you. We’re doing what we can.” He said trying to reassure her though how it would work was anyone’s guess. “His pressure’s 80 over 60.” Steven said as he reached for the IV to get that started, he hoped it was the guy’s sugar levels as that was an easy enough fix. “Well Kelle, looks like we’ve found the problem.” He said with a grin as he looked back toward the woman. “My partner here’s going to fix him up.” He said hopeful that once they had that it would make things better. "You got the line?" Kelle asked as the spiked the IV bag, then handed the end to Steven to plug in. "Here's some tape." Then she dug in the jump kit and pulled out the Dextrose, assembling it before handing it to her partner as well. "This should do the trick, Ma'am," she tried to assure the woman with a smile. At least it did in a large percentage of the cases, but there were those rare patients whose hypoglycemia was not the primary problem but a symptom, and once they pushed the sugar, they would know if they had 'fixed' him, or would have to change gears and keep hunting. Steven nodded to her, “Got it.” He said as he plugged the end of the line into the guy as he took her tape and attached that as well. At least now nothing would come lose he thought. “Thanks, tape save the world yet again.” He stated with a grin. He listened to Kelly explain things to the woman there, he hoped it would fix him up though if it was going to be something else they would soon know. He watched and waited to see if the IV was going to do anything, he seriously hoped it would as trying to figure out a second cause was always going to be a headache especially when you were treating a problem and not the root of the problem at least. “What do you think?” He asked Kelle as he glanced at the man again wanting her opinion on it too. "I think," Kelle murmured quietly so that the wife couldn't overhear, "that you're going to push the Dextrose, he's going to magically wake up, we'll help his wife make him a PB&J sammich, then he'll refuse transport, so we'll do the AMA and go home!" At least, that would be the ideal scenario, but that was contingent on the only issue being hypoglycemia, and the man wanted to stay home, but the odds were certainly in their favor. Not that transport would add more than maybe another twenty minutes or so onto the call, but if all he needed was a meal, than it was really a lot of trouble for everyone. Grinning, she handed Steven the Dextrose. "Work your magic!" Steven Hudson

“Ooh PB&J sandwich, sounds very very good to me right now.” He said grinning, yes he had just eaten his weight in food and coffee but food and he were like chicken and gravy. It just worked though just the AMA to do did sound good to him. “Fingers cross for the sandwich version of this and hopefully we can get back home in time to make one for ourselves.” He added though the first thing he was going to do was to hit the floor and sleep for hours. Steven hoped for the best outcome but it sometimes it was just anything but, today though given the man’s wife was there and it would make them look good to do so little and yet have a fix for them. The simpler things were often just as good as the complicated ones too. After the day they were having so far it would be nice for a simple no transport fill out the paper work happy ending story. “Let the show begin.” He said as he grinned taking the Dextrose as he gave it to the man. “Drum roll please....” He said watching to make sure that things were as they should be or the day was going to get a lot longer and a lot more complicated. "I have every confidence..." Kelle grinned, keeping a close eye on the patient, and when the patient started to stir she took his hand and started talking to him. "John? Mr. Simms? Wake up for us." She grinned as his eyes started to flutter open, then she slid a little to the side and looked at the man's wife. "Come on over and talk to him." Hesitantly, the elderly woman moved in and put a hand on the man's chest. "Honey? Are you awake?" She seemed skeptical, but that fell away as Steven pushed the last of the Dextrose and the man's eyes opened all the way. "John? Are you back?" "Edie?" Looking confused -- well, confused, he had no idea what was going on -- he started to sit up. "What..?" "Your sugar was low." Grinning, Kelle looked at her partner. "Steven here fixed you up." Steven grinned back at her, “Yeah well let just hope the world is on our side today.” He said watching the man stir as Kelle took the man’s hand and started to talk to him. It was official, she was the best partner to have he thought watching and listening to her work, three partners’ back he actually had to tell the guy to be a bit more compassionate which was never a good start. Steven backed off a little to give them some extra space as he kept pushing the Dextrose as he looked between the wife and the husband. Sometimes shifts were awful to start with but there were days when it really was one of the best jobs in the world to have. Steven grinned when John came around, confused was okay as long as he was still with the rest of them. “Yes I did but only on the say so of the best paramedic in Chicago today.” He said nudging Kelle lightly as he grinned at her. “John, welcome back and your hero today is Kelle.” He said motioning to her; well just because he pushed something into the man he was hardly going to leave Kelle out since it was her idea in the first place. Blushing a little, Kelle grinned and shrugged. "Team work, right?" She gave Steven a playful nudge with her shoulder, then looked back at the man. "So, how do you feel? Do you want us to take you to the hospital to get checked out?" "I'm a little tired," he admitted, "but I don't think I need to go in." "If you don't, you're going to have to eat your wife's cooking." Kelle chuckled. "Aw, Edie's a good cook, and she's taken care of me for a long time." The man slowly sat up, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Can you make him a peanut butter sandwich or something?" Kelle asked the woman, who was visibly relieved. "I can do better than that," she declared, "I can make his favorite, fried egg sandwich." Well, as long as the gent ate and had someone with him, there was really no need to transpor him, although they'd still have paperwork to do...or, rather, Steven would have paperwork to do! Steven chuckled feeling the playful nudge with her shoulder. “Yeah but mostly you.” He said grinning before he listened to what Kelle had asked the man and the response she got. Oh if only people said that more often it would save playing taxi to things that could be solved with rest and food. Sure the trip was fun but the paperwork that went with it was a nightmare at times. Hearing the man talk about his wife made him smile, yeah that was something working making any trip for. He had wondered what it might have been like if his marriage had lasted longer, would they have been that happy or would it have been a divorce in ten years and a bitter battle to go with it. Still it was always going to be unknown as he listened to Kelle and Edie, “Fried egg sandwich, sounds like a good plan.” He stated though sure after coffee and chocolate he was debating swinging by any place that served food again before he pushed that thought from his head. “So if you’re taking the sandwich over our company and a trip to med, we just need your signature on a few things.” He said as he reached into his bag. Oh this was always the fun part, the whole ‘I give my consent and I will not sue if it all goes wrong part’. “So you think that’s us partner?” He asked as he got a few things filled out as he passed it to Kelle to make sure he had everything correct before anything was done. The one thing worse than paperwork was wrong paperwork. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP,

"Us? What, do you mean I'm your 'work wife'?" She grinned as she looked over the paperwork and signatures. It was a common term, when you worked 12 to 24 hours next to someone, just like the ambulance was your 'home away from home'. "You know this means joint custody of the cardiac monitor and jump bag."
As she teased him, she took out the IV, then stood and put the equipment back in the bag. "Well, if you folks don't need us anymore, we'll be on our way. It was good to meet you, though, and if you need anything else, don't hesitate to call, all right? No charge if we don't transport..."
Then she glanced at Steven. "Well, partner, looks like our job here is done!"

“Woah you said it not me, besides I think you’d love to have me to yourself twenty four seven, it’s worked for Edie and John here.” He said grinning at the two of them. Work wife, it was like family away from family with the amount of time they spent together and likely knew a lot more about each other’s private lives than some of the boyfriends, girlfriends of other halves knew of too. Still he hardly minded it as Kelle was the only one who had stuck with him after a bad start to a shift.
“All yours so long as I get the oxygen and the trolley?” He asked he grinning packing the things away as he lifted one of the bags and offered to get hers too. Not that he thought she was unable to but it was just nice to be nice. “Nice to meet you, enjoy that egg sandwich!” He said with a grin as he nodded when Kelle spoke and he stood up.
“So we get to the part where we ride off into the sunset after a job well done. Nice work ‘work wife’.” He teased lightly as held the door for her, honestly it was a nice call to get where everything worked out fine for the people involved and at least they knew the guy was going to get take care off too.

"'Who were those un-masked people?'" Kelle chuckled as she started to restock the jump bag from the supplies on the wall. "Yeah, a good way to end the day, right? Hopefully..." Even if it was time to go home they were still fair game until they 'touched base', although this time of the morning they were fairly safe. As she stuffed a blue box containing an ampule or 50% Dextrose back into the bag, she stifled a yawn. "Man, I'm beat...that caffeine and sugar wear off and it leaves you dead-tired. Bed is sounding better and better!" Then she laughed. "There's the good part of only being work-spouses, you don't have to see me in curlers and face cream! Of course, I'm sure you are just sexy-handsome all the time, right?" She rolled her eyes at him. Steven Hudson

“Yeah, tough to know who they are without masks on. At least a ski mask would help narrow it down.” He said smirking at her as he nodded. “Nice way to end the day and no transport so the patient is alive and well. Cant beat it.” He said though sure they still had a bit to do before he could fall into bed and forget about the day but then given some days it could always have been worse though he knew not to say that one out loud. “You know what that means right? More sugar, more caffeine... we need to invent something with both in it... like a cronut with coffee inside.” He suggested though at this point his mind was more on getting to close his eyes and not lift his head from the pillow for hours and hours. If he could sleep and had not hit the point of too tired to even sleep. Steven chuckled as he shrugged, “Yeah you guess right but I can tell you the face cream and curlers do a lot for me. Can only use small curlers though but can’t look this good all day without them.” He teased as he furrowed his brow for a moment, “Besides if you love someone, the curlers are just as beautiful as they are and I am sure you look gorgeous with both of those things.” He stated deciding he was hardly going to dig himself into a hole there. “Serious guy question though... how do you sleep in curlers?” He asked having wanted to ask anyone that since he was old enough to know some women did just that. How he had no idea but still if he never asked he would never find out as he looked at her curiously. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP,
