"Well, so let's give them something to talk about, right?" Kelle grinned. "I mean, how hard can it be to free-style a fight? Just follow my lead."

Already she was thinking of mischief, and playing it out in her head, this would be fun, and it might serve the others in the fire house right for assuming that Steven was going to alienate her, too.

"So, hit it going into the parking lot, then slam on the brakes, I'll hop out and start shouting at you."

This was going to be fun, especially since they hadn't had any sleep in over 24 hours!

Steven laughed as he nodded to Kelle about giving them something to talk about, the firehouse loved nothing more than gossip and idle chat about everything. “Sure we can free-style a fight, after all I’m pretty sure that we’ve seen enough people fight to know what the general aim is.” He joked never having really understood why people fought with them, against them or others while paramedics were trying to fix them up.

“Okay you’re on.” Steven said seeing the house up ahead as he laughed, “We will get you your money for this trust me.” He joked laughing as he was unsure if he was too tired to fight or tired enough that there was barely any acting needed to fight between the two of them. Sleep deprived, hungry though after the last call Steven was unsure if he could even stomach food at the end of the day.

“You ready for our super fight then partner?” He asked her grinning as he saw the turn for the firehouse coming up for them to take.

"Yup!" Grinning, Kelly waited until Steven stopped in the big truck bay. It was morning shift-trade, so they had a decent audience, milling around, exchanging information and checking out the equipment.

As soon as the rig stopped, she jumped out and shouted, "Fine! Have it your way, but one of these days you'll regret it!" Then she slammed the door and stalked away, nothing that she had indeed drawn the attention of the firefighters there. A few were even whispering among themselves.

Shaking her head, she turned back to the ambulance, smacking the hood with her open palm. "No!" she snapped, glaring at Steven, "this isn't over. Get out here and let's settle this!" Her tone dropped to a menacing growl, "If you dare!"

Stopping the ambulance and seeing the morning shift Steven lost the grin on his face. No he was the unhappy paramedic today or at least for the next ten minutes or so. He could see the audience milling around, doing the usual checks and he was glad just to be back to clock off for a few hours sleep if he was entirely honest.

Steven rolled his eyes as Kelle slammed the door and stalked away. “Like hell you just get to walk away like that.” Steven snapped though the attention was already heading their way as he saw Kelle smack the hood of the ambulance. Well if this was no joke then sure, he might have been a little surprised by his new partners outburst.

“If I dare, right that’s it.” Steven snapped right back at her menacing growl as he hopped down from the driver’s side slamming the door as he glared. “Happy now? Really like the last shift wasn’t bad enough you go all nuts on me now for what? Being me or is it that you just can’t take a little truth in your life.” He added having no idea what they were arguing over exactly but then that was the point. Making it seem real enough and sure, for him it was a more regular occurrence than he wanted to admit.

"Nuts? Oh, right, I'm the girl so I'm the one who's nuts!" Kelle rolled her eyes. "Sure, sure they guy's always right just because of his chromosomes...I see how it is."

She walked up to him, her shoulders back as she looked up at him, as she was much shorter than he. "I kinda thought you were smarter than that," she growled, glaring at him, although she was about to laugh, "there are so many more arguments than just, 'I'm a guy'. Sheesh! 'The EMS gods deemed it so...' 'It's just the way it's supposed to be.' 'We've done it like that for eons...'"

She rolled her eyes, then turned to look at the closest man. "I'm right, right?" May as well let the audience play!

“Yeah pretty much those are the standard rules you know, you don’t see me screaming in the middle of the firehouse.” Steven replied as he shrugged at Kelle. “Guy leads and all and if you can’t get that I guess it just isn’t going to work out at all.” That was one thing Steven never believed, yes he did get the opening a door and generally being a guy but he would never believe that a woman was any less capable.

Steven returned her glare as he did his best not to grin at her at all. “Really because I think the best ones are the ones that involved the words ‘I’m a guy’. There really is an EMS god and sure if we’ve done it one way for a lifetime and it works you never change it or risk angering the gods. How have you never taken a class on that?” Steven asked as if even questioning those sentences was a really bad idea.

Steven looked toward the same guy, “Come on man, us guys need to stick together on this... all shift she’s been nagging about the arrangement of the stuff, what I say, how we work... I mean seriously, have a heart.” He asked grinning at the guy quite happy to drag whoever else he needed into the fake argument simply so he could keep the reputation of crazy. Despite the clouded origins in its past, Steven worked with what he had and a reputation worked for him this far so why not keep it going?

The group of co-workers were caught...obviously a bit uncomfortable, yet unwilling to leave and miss the show, curious to see what was going to happen next.

And Steven was doing a great job of playing along. Heck, if the guys only knew this was an act they would be amazed at how the pair 'clicked' and worked together.

"I took classes on how to treat patients," she shot back, "on protocols and medicine, not on esoteric things like gods and customs." She rolled her eyes.

"And do you know what?" She stepped up to him, tapping his chest with her finger, "There's nothing like chocolate covered bacon! You were right about that!"

She gave him a quick pat on the cheek, then turned and headed for the ready room!

The uncomfortable looks and the off guard, waiting for the feathers to fly moments they were always the train crash waiting to happen kind. The wanting to look away but unable to like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Usually this would be the scene he managed to drag back to the house, the screaming, the yelling and doors slamming because asking a person to do a job to a certain standard was unacceptable.

Then there was Kelle, the person who has lasted first shift with him, almost got blown up and dragged her into a precinct nightmare of epic proportions. How she was still there with him, well it just went to prove either she had no sense or they would get along great and managed to work together, a first for him give all that had gone on in recent years.

“Well since you put it like that.” Steven said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes trying not to laugh feeling the tap to his chest with her finger. Usually that might have been the straw that had him throw something, if she was a guy there might have been another punch thrown and a week off with mandatory anger management classes.

Instead he just laughed and grinned feeling the pat on the cheek. “Aww see, chocolate and bacon and the world comes around to your way of thinking.” He said grinning at their co-workers for a moment. “Who’d have thought that I could keep a partner twenty four hours.” He mused as he followed Kelle through into the ready room.

"Twenty five!" she called over her shoulder at him, grinning. "Remember that we're held over, so...there's more credit for me!" She waited for him to catch up and linked arms with him as they headed to the bunk room.

"Fun's over now," she declared, releasing him, "and me, I need to go home and fall into bed...alone!" She gave him a wink. "And you're going to sneak around and read your sister's diary, right?"

Honestly, the shift hadn't been bad, and she thought that it was going to be a good partnership, so long as they could avoid any more close explosions!

"Don't get caught, though, I'd hate to have to break in a new partner!"

Linking arms with Kelle as they walked he nodded and laughed lightly. “Oh sure cannot be doing with any credit for myself at all.” He teased with a light smirk; it was one of the few shifts he actually felt great about. Ever since he managed to get the crazy side of himself, he struggled to find the right partner for work and now. Now he was pretty sure he had one for at least next shift too which was a nice change of pace.

“Aww you remembered, yes that is the plan. Sneak in and read all that she never wants me to know because then I can sort things out before they are an issue.” Steven explained grinning, “You know me, better to fix first and accept the punishments later.” The sound of bed though, it was a good sound indeed. Even if he had to fall into the nearest bunk for an hour or two. Just getting to close his eyes for a moment would be heaven in a way.

“Sure you would, I mean having to teach anyone else what we’ve been through today. It would take a long time, pretty sure not just anyone could pick up about bacon and chocolate.” He stated smirking, “And then the whole explosion thing, that would require extra hours and a lot of extra credit there. Might be better off to stick with the same partner... at least I have confidence that you could bring be back to life if the worst did happen.” He teased though imagining what might happen if he was caught.

It was a little better to maybe just talk and kidnap his sister for the day. At least then he could make up the excuse he was helping her and just quiz her about life while he had her there. It was starting to feel like the safer option that might not require a medics intervention when it went wrong.

"What makes you think I'd want to bring you back to life?" Kelle asked with an indignant look. "Do you know how much paperwork that is? And, do you mean to tell me that the whole Ka-Boom thing is routine with you? No wonder no one is silly enough to work with you!"

In all honesty, even with the explosion, the shift had gone well and she actually wasn't dreading coming back for more. Of course, she could do without the secretive excitement, but then, it wasn't as if Steven had planned any of it specifically to harass her...at least she didn't think so!

"But yeah, you got me chocolate, baconness and caffeine, so I guess I could save your ass if it came down to it, then just 'Weekend At Bernie's' you so I wouldn't have to get someone new!"

Steven slammed his fist against his chest as I sniffed lightly, “Ouch you’d do that to me. Let me leave this earth for paperwork?” He teased frowning as he laughed and shrugged, “What you’re not a fan of the Ka-boom thing? And here was me thinking it would make your day, if I’d known that sooner I might have kept a partner for more than a day.” He teased though really Ka-booms were few and far between. It had been his first exploding boat so far that he had no idea would.

Usually the fire department would give them a heads up on stuff like that. Then it would be the lack of understanding or the freaked out partner he had no time to deal with for doing other jobs. So it was nice to actually finally have someone in the ambulance with him that might just be the one to stay around. That was if he could break his own curse with partners, he knew that she might be saying it all just so he felt better about the situation or maybe not, he was unsure but if she turned up next shift. It would be just as much fun as the first.

“I’ll make sure to keep getting the chocolate, bacon and caffeine then.” He said grinning, “Ouch wow at least I now know what I have to do. Trained already and I just never knew it yet.” He added grinning, “Then again I could always add a few more Ka-booms to things just to keep you on your toes, I’d hate to have you training someone else for me job.” He added smirking lightly.

"I don't mind fireworks," Kelle commented with a grin, "but I do prefer when I can just watch them and enjoy them...you know, 'OOOOOOOO, AHHHHHHH', something planned." Then she shrugged. "Although I guess there's something to be said for flying-boat shrapnel!"

In truth, now that it was behind them, and the IA interview was over without anything horrible happening, it all really didn't seem so bad, especially since none of the 'good guys' had been gravely injured.

"As for the training, isn't that the whole idea...that you don't even know it's happening until it's over and done? Sit! Stay! Good partner!!" She laughed.

Steven chuckled as he nodded listening to Kelle, “I thought that was what you were doing watching the boat? I mean it was pretty spectacular and it’s not like you’ll see that everyday right.” He added hoping to never have to be that close to an exploding boat again. Talk about too close for comfort though he figured it was why Hank had them there.

It was one hell of a first day for Kelle or shift or however it was looked at. Still everyone was still there at the end of the day even if some guy idiot needed his head knocked against a wall for the way he spoke to his partner.

Steven laughed as he went to crouch down on the floor, “Do I get a biscuit for that or is there more training needed?” He teased as he got up and nodded, “So you learned today to stay away from exploding boats, lesson one of life achieved.” Yeah pretty much he was amazed that Kelle was still there so far. Usually a boom would make anyone run, followed by IA which was a whole other nightmare right in itself.

"Right, stay away from exploding boats." She laughed. "Good to know, although I think I might have figured that out on my own!" Her nose wrinkled up. "I bet that applies to cars and houses, too...well, anything blowing up isn't good, unless you've had a bad day and you're after you're ex's car!" Then she shook her head. "No, I don't have an ex! But...you know, anyone who pisses you off...sibling...partner..."

Stopping outside the door tot he ladies dorm, she added, "Of course you get biscuits for being a good boy! And come to think of it, you didn't widdle on the floor all day!"

She started to push open the door, then hesitated. "Really, if you want gravy with your biscuits, there's a good place up the road, but then, you're supposed to do something with your sister today to make up for reading her diary, right?"
