“Now we’re talking, For one night only, Fifty One Haunts.” Steven said grinning at her entirely enthusiastic about the idea. It was Halloween could there be anything better than that. CPD he knew needed a better sense of humour so hopefully they would do something for Charity but then with the boys in blue he could never tell. It was the kind of thing he thought was a fantastic idea but cops, they had a whole other head space thought he rivalry had to hit a nerve with them. Steven nodded when she spoke about dressing up, it was all part of the things as he waited to see what she would go as. “Ooh spooky.” He said as he shivered slightly, “You know that is very scary right but I love it, total ghost bride.” Steven was about to reply when he watched her look through him rather than at him and asked where he groom and baby were. He gave her a terrified face as he laughed, “It’s scary that you’re way too good at doing that. I think I need to watch out.” He stated as he laughed and nodded. “Now you’re talking sexy Dracula, or a pilot or a troll from the movie. A morph suit, glitter and crazy blue hair? What do you think?” He asked grinning. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP,

"You, a troll? Nah, too tall, and I don't think you'd really look all that good in spiky purple hair!" She shook her head, looking over at him assessingly. "No, I think the whole 'Dracula' thing suits you better, but yeah, glitter..." She laughed. "Don't tell me you sparkle in the Sun!" She wasn't sure if he'd get the 'Twilight' reference, but maybe, he had two sisters after all. "Besides, I think you'd look great in a cape, and after all, you're the 'hero' paramedic, right? So...cape..!" Then she had a thought. "Oh, man, you could so be a zombie paramedic-firefighter! Rough up some turnouts, use that old melted helmet on the shelf there in the station, get one of those ancient training monitors with the paddles... This really could be fun if they could pull it off. "We could do...like a 'Macabre Medical Center', 'Slaughter House of Horror', 'Firehouse of Fear'..." Steven Hudson,

“Really, no spiky purple hair... aww.” Steven said pretending to be sad about it though purple hair, he was unsure if that was even his style. “Dracula it is then and sparkle in the sun... sure I do. Like diamonds in the sky and go team Jacob!” He announced as he nodded. With two sisters he had an introduction to the world of teenagers and vampires and two teams he had wished never to know much more about. Five movies, four books and a world of heart break and living forever. If only life was that simple he thought. “You cannot be Dracula without a cape, if I need to hide too it doubles as a curtain so it all works out.” He said with a grin as he listened ot her about the zombie paramedic. “So are you saying I just go as myself during the day shift huh?” He teased though he nodded, “That sounds great, nothing like the undead medic trying to bring back to life the ghouls of Chicago.” “Have you done this kind of thing before?” Steven asked grinning at her, she had this down to a science as he heard the names she came up with. “Loving those names, we so need to do this just for the names alone. A full neon sign with that on it and we’d be onto a winner.” Steven added grinning. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP,

"Nope, not anything like this...not even a Halloween party, really." Kelle shrugged. "Just did the traditional trick-or-treat thing. I went to Fright Fest last year at Six Flags though...that was pretty cool. Kind of scary, well, if you don't have our job, guess it would be scarier, but ya know, actors as zombies verses real dead bodies..." There was nothing that Hollywood could do that would ever compare to what was real life, and even after training in a smoke house, much the less crawling around in a building that was falling down around your ears made it next to impossible to create an 'attraction' that could freak out one of them. "You've got sisters, I bet you took the opportunity to scare the bejessus out of them, huh?" She laughed. "But no one else could...big, protective brother could do it, but no one else." “Woah, wait a minute are you serious?” Steven questioned as he gave her the I seriously cannot believe this look. “Yeah, I guess once you’ve seen the real thing the fake ones are... well fake but Fright Fest is good. Besides I refuse to let this stand, you have to have your first Halloween Party so that is all the more reason to do this.” Steven said not wanting her to have another year go by without a Halloween party. It was a right of some sort he was sure of it. Halloween was more a fun thing than scary to him, sure there were still a few things that terrified him. His sister’s bad sides, being ganged up on by them and a whole number of other things. Blood, zombies, things jumping out at you it was like a day in the day job. Night or day things went wrong, fake blood and real blood was a difference though at times if he worked the Halloween shift, it could be tough going if a zombie was actually injured to figure out the make up from the wounds at times. “Oh all the time, never wait for Halloween to do that to them. Hide in the wardrobe and jump out at them, hide behind a door. Do the torch under the chin thing in the middle of the night. It works less now and I guess if I turned up at their door at one in the morning they would assume something was wrong rather than scaring them.” He said as he grinned, “But yes I can do that but no one else can. I do that out of love, anyone does that to be mean and they have me to deal with.” So his rules on life were a little lopsided but then family was family. They could do the same to him but he guessed his sisters had protective streaks in them too. “Same goes for you though now partner, I can scare you with my crazy but no one else. So welcome to the gang.” He stated as his protective side did extend to those he worked with. Partners, fire house family and a whole number of other people he decided to get protective over. "Oh, such a privilege and an honor!" Kelle laughed, but she knew that he was sincere in his declaration and she really was kind of flattered. She didn't have family here, and it was lonely sometimes having no one here, so if Steven wanted to 'adopt' her, that was fine. "Always wanted a big brother," she mused, "although I was thinking handsome and rich, but...well beggars can't be choosers, right?" Grinning, she stuck her tongue out at him. "This means I can abuse you, too, right? You know, mooch off you, pour out my heart...Oh, man, that means you're going to read my diary, huh? I'd better start a dummy one to put you off track!" Adopting people was his thing; yes he never got enough of the helping people out through his work so it translated into just about everything. He had adopted Stephanie in a round about way when he had managed to give her an excuse for the nurses to get her into a room with Ben. “I know right, I’m far too generous.” He joked as he laughed, well only to those he liked and any boyfriends or potential future boyfriends of his sisters. That changed pretty quickly. “Ouch, thanks for that. I might not be rich but handsome... I’ve got that.” He said pulling a face at her as he laughed. “Well you’ve got a big brother here, so anything you need just ask.” He stated not wanting her to feel like she was unable to do that. Chicago was a fun place to be but he hardly wanted her to feel like she was on her own in the city. “Hey feel free, like I said handsome not rich but sure mooch away, pour your heart out. You’d be surprised how many problems are solves in theses seats though the same goes for me too.” He added grinning, “Yeah the diary thing, sure I’d read it cannot have my new little sister writing things I have no idea about. Though I’ve learned my lesson with that, no more reading diaries unless they are left unattended then it counts as fair game.” Steven said not sure that his rules worked that way but then if the diary was unattended, it was fair game. "I'll remember that about the diary," Kelle commented, but then she glanced at him with a grin. "So does that mean if you leave your keys laying around I can take your ride and you can have my beat-up pick-up...oh, excuse me, 'vintage' pick-up! It's pre-1970, so that makes it a classic, right?" She laughed, but then frowned. "You do drive a hot rod, right? I picture you in a..." she leaned back to look at him, "vintage 'Vette, early 60's, white on red, convertible, of course, stick, leather seats, souped up..." Not that she really expected that, but if she was in charge of cars, that's what she'd assign him. "On the other hand, you probably can only afford a cruddy KIA because of the payments on the Humvee tanks you make your sisters drive!" Steven Hudson,

“Woah woah, hang on just one minute. Reading a diary and taking someone’s car are two entirely different things here. However since you’ve put up with me all of shift I can make that exception as long as I get to borrow your ‘vintage’ pick up. Classic it is and you can never beat a classic car. They do not make them like they used to.” He said with a sigh, he had spent enough time around a garage when he was younger to know that computers in cars were the death of driving. At least in his opinion. If you were unable to park it yourself then there was a serious need to steal away the drivers licence of the owner. “Oh yeah totally drive a Hot Rod and I like your thinking on it.” He said grinning, yes he could dream of a car like that but then he had a Camero which in his mind was just as good. “See I can see you driving that vintage Porsche Spyder, smooth lines, amazing horse power, hair in the wind, sunglasses type driving off into the sunset.” He said grinning at her, “Some very snazzy colour and of course all of the mod cons that come with it.” Steven had to laugh when she mentioned the Humvee tanks he made his sisters drive. Of course maybe that was the better idea; get them a Humvee each and that way he knew they would be alright. “Yeah but there is no way I could get into a Kia, those things are... never get a Kia.” He said to her not wanting to go on a rant about his sisters one that he was sure could cause her death for many years. At least now she had the Tarus which made for a lot safer driving in his mind. “Well it was between the Humvee and the Armored Mercedes-Benz GL-Class SUV. So me I have to down grade to the Camero recently purchased but I can take that sort of hit on my scale of cool. You know saves on reading their diary first.” He teased though really Kelle knew he had already done that one, his sisters well being was everything to him and if it meant a state of the art armoured tank then so be it. At least he knew the tank would get them to and from any place though the rest of Chicago might have something to say about it. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP,

"Fast'n'Furious might be fun, but honestyt, I'm more of an oldies kind of gal...like... Oldies...MG TC or TD...Stutz Bearcat...but I'd need it fully restored, since all I know how to do is change the oil and tires." And it would be crazy-expensive to restore a car like that. "Camaro's nice, but I'd want a '70's...that or a Firebird...but same thing about it being restored...but...yeah, I got my classic, so I'm not complaining. And I know its quirks, know when it's deciding that it's going to quit on me at the worst possible moment, and I know how to push-start it, so...it'll do for now." She glanced at him, her grin widening. "So, what accessories do you have? Fuzzy dice, chrome shift knob...it is a stick? Please say it's a stick so I don't lose the little respect I have for you." “Oldies are the best, not just because I’m vintage now but they never make them like they used to.” Steven said with a sigh, “I used to work for a garage and I always hated when they would bring in these classics and ask for them to be ripped to shreds just so they could look cool. They are already cool.” He said with face that said as much. “Well if you know your car then what more can you ask for and there’s nothing better than being able to start it and not have it stuck in a shop for the computer guts to be costing you a fortune.” Steven said knowing from experience just how costly a ‘fault’ could be when it was computer hardware that was wrong. Not just a new set of breaks or a tyre or two. “It’s like you’ve driven in it already.” Steven said with a grin, “It is stick because I value the little respect you have for me and there is no other way. Was thinking tennis ball for the shift knob but hey open to ideas and the fuzzy dice, that has to be in every car right?” Steven added smirking. “Along with the green tree air freshener and thinking pink fluffy steering wheel cover but not sure about that.” Kelle Lindsay, EMTP,

"Oh, I hadn't thought about a fuzzy steering wheel cover...that sounds great!" She laughed. "It'd keep my hands warm in the winter, right? Thanks for the idea, and it would work great in my ratty truck, too." There certainly wasn't anything that could harm the truck, it was pretty funky anyway, so a few more flourishes weren't going to make a difference anyway. "It's just a truck, practical, so at least I don't care much about banging it up. But it's great for hauling things around and slugging through snow." While she didn't go out of her way to batter the truck, she appreciated that she didn't need to fret over a ding here and there. "So what got you into paramedicing if you had a promising career as as mechanic? Heck, I bet you could have had one of those TV shows...'Steve's Garage' or something." She laughed. "'Hudson 911'!" “See I knew you were the smart one, nothing better than keeping hands warm in winter and a Chicago winter... you need to do all you can.” Steven said grinning, “Ratty old truck, no it is a classic in the long line of vehicles that will make a come back.” His car was more practical than anything, a dent here or there was okay with him as it gave the car the lived in feel without actually living in it. Now it was his sisters car and sure whatever she wanted done to it he was more than happy to do to it. The fluffy steering wheel cover for his Taurus might have been a step too far though maybe that had never happened.
“Got to admit mine is awful with snow, it either has to crawl along or get’s stuck so a truck has a lot of advantages there. Plus the space in it, sure for passengers it’s great but anything more than a few bags of shopping and I have a space issue.” He said grinning, yes there was no furniture removes done in that car at all because nothing would fit unless it was flat pack.
Steven glanced at Kelle for a moment when he realised what she had asked. It was likely the first personal conversation of sorts he had shared with a partner given they usually left before that question was ever asked. “Oooh now we’re talking, Hudson 911 I like it. I’m sure there would be a fourteen series show in there somewhere.” He joked as he thought about his dad, he was the main reason he had become a medic.
“And my dad got me into paramedicing, not sure my family agrees entirely with my choice as a mechanic might be a safer career but...” Steven had no idea how to even explain it to anyone. “He used to have all these amazing stories to tell and sure the old helping people part. I wanted to make sure I could help others just like he did and have my own stories to tell. That plus the wages were a little better than the garage so it helped out a lot.” Steven said grinning though his choice was more personal than money related. “What about you? What got you into this wonderful line of work?”

"Kinda my dad, too." Kelle shrugged, pausing a moment, then sighing. "I was going to school to be a vet -- I love working with animals, they aren't nearly so annoying as people -- and I got my EMT to help pay for it. Transferred out here to go the Vet Tech program at Illinois University, my aunt lived out here and I could stay with her...Then Dad got cancer and the rest of the funding fell through." Her dad out of work meant no income to speak or on top of medical bills.... "I got my paramedic, since it pays more, so I can set money aside...Aunt Mable moved into a assisted living and gave me the house, so I don't have a mortgage...that's cool so I can fix the place up. Vet school will happen eventually, but I want to get my feet under me as a medic first." She laughed. "Then I'll need a hundred acres to handle all the disabled and abandoned critters I end up taking home!" Steven Hudson

Steven listened to Kelle talking about how she wanted to be a vet; he had to agree that animals were a lot less annoying than humans. “I’m sorry about your dad Kelle. I know it’s tough without them.” He said as he knew he had to work a few jobs in the beginning to make sure his family had what they needed. It had completely destroyed his mother, yes she was the same person but she never left the house and still never did. The bills mounted up and the rest was just what had to be done to make sure everything went along as smoothly as possible. “Smart move, once you can fix people I guess you can fix animals too. At least you have the house as a project to work on and a pretty good job too.” He said grinning as he chuckled when she spoke of the hundred acres to handle the critters. “They all need to have a home and you are more than welcome to take up any space I have for that too though my ground rules are, no snakes, rats, crocodiles, spiders... you get the picture. Just the cute fluffy ones or a really scruffy dog... no one can say no to a scruffy dog.” He said grinning at her. “So it’s Kelle the Vet not the paramedic, just remember which job you’re in using the thermometers... think the human patients might be a little worried if you start sticking things the other places.” He teased though from what he knew already she made a fantastic paramedic so he could see her making a fantastic vet too.
