"Oh, no blind dates unless it's reciprocal! I get to find you a girl..." She laughed and shook her head. "I don't want to go looking, you're right, it'll happen when it happens and it's not something to be chased...besides, then we can get old and wrinkled together...be that eccentric brother-sister who everyone is afraid of." While the notion of 'love at first sight' was romantic and intriguing, she'd always thought more of having a good friend who you (and he) suddenly realized was more than that. And that took time, but she didn't care, she wasn't in a hurry and if it never happened, well, she could deal with that -- she knew full-well that no relationship was better than a bad one. "Of course, if you're as good at finding a guy for me as you are a car..." She stopped and looked up at him. "You've been a perfect brother, you've always done your best to look out for us, even when you were a kid, right after Dad died." Honestly, she couldn't imagine what life would have been like without him there to take over for their father, nor what that responsibility had done to a kid who no longer had a life of his own. The least he could do now that they were all grown was get a good car. Steven Hudson,

Steven laughed, blind dates no thank you. If he set his sister up then at least he had a chance to vet then potential first before them even setting eyes on his sister. “No thanks but I’ll find you a guy. Any specifics I need for my requirement list?” Steven asked het grinning. “Awww now that is the nicest thing you’ve said to me. Sounds like the best plan to me, I mean now you finally get what I’ve been saying for years. No need to move out, you can move back in and yeah we’ll have our block terrified of us.” The idea that you would know when you met that person, he had thought that once a long time ago and after she died after he married her. The idea of love was there but the terror of losing that person again, well he dated but nothing was serious or often was hardly serious on his part. Then again he was happy enough being a grumpy medic who annoyed his sisters all day long. Did he have time for a love life, likely not. “Then count me in on the search, will have a list to you as soon as I can.” Steven said with a smirk, well it would be an interesting list he was sure if he could find anyone to meet his own standards for his sisters. Steven stopped and glanced at Isla when she stopped, he wondered if she had changed her mind about the car as he listened to her and felt himself go a shade of red. “Thanks but I’m far from perfect.” Steven said being honest, “I tried to do my best by you but I know I screwed it up a lot but turns out, you’ve turned out great so far so I’ve not managed to scar you for life yet.. still time though.” He offered grinning. “And you are the perfect sister, done your best all your life and you’ve no idea how insanely proud I am of you.” He added. "Took me long enough to get here." Isla shrugged, her cheeks going red. "I mean, most of the other students in class were in their early twenties. But...I know, slow start, had a full-time job, yeah, I'm proud, but I'm still old!" Laughing, she shrugged again. "What do I want in a man? I don't know...someone you approve of?" After all, he was pretty particular, but then, she could think of some pretty outrageous requirements he might come up with! "Let's see...steady job, or better, independently wealthy! Treats me like a princess and idolizes you..." She laughed again. "And number one priority, doesn't exist." It was sort of an on-going jest since JerkFace that neither she nor Steven had any intention that she ever had another man in her life, and in a way, she was good with that...if it meant protecting her from the pain, both emotional and physical, that came with a mistake in a relationship. Still, she knew that it could be a good thing, and she really did long for someone who would hold her and share amazing experiences...Maybe she was dreaming, but she'd seen others, her parents, who had been wonderful together, who complimented each other and supported each other...and then... "Probably better to just stay single," she murmured with a shrug, "you know, so there's nothing to lose." Steven Hudson,

“It took you as long as you needed and nothing wrong with age. It just means you have life experience on those twenty something’s.” Steven said with a grin, “You’re not old trust me, I know old and yes you had a full time job, lots to do and you’ve done this on your own. You should be proud of that Isla because I am and you tell those early twenties to do a full time job, study and get where you are. I’m sure none of them would do it.” So yes Steven was proud of his sister and defensive of her too, she had been through a lot and done a lot no matter what age she was. In his eyes she was still you and that little sister he was looking out for. Age was just a number. Steven laughed when she said that it was anyone he would approve of, well that was a number one must point he thought. “Yeah, that would be a plus point in my book but that list is narrow.” He said thoughtfully as he grinned at her. Steven had a list of requirements which all were a little odd but then finding the perfect guy for his sister; there were standards that were required of it. “Now we’re talking, sounds like the perfect guy already.” Steven added grinning, he knew the jest well since letting another guy near his sister after jerk-face was an issue for him. Not just an issue but he had seen it go bad once and he was hardly going to let it get to the point where a guy raised his hand to her ever again. If that meant she was single the rest of her life then sure he could live with that though he knew taking that leap of faith. Yeah he was hardly going to go all soppy on her about it but then again, he had taken that leap once before and sure it ended with death but then for a while he was happy. Steven had seen how happy their parents had been and if he ever got to have one part of that then he would be amazed though hearing Isla say there was nothing to lose and shrug. No, he might be cautious about any guy being around her but no it could only last so long. “Okay, it’s that time for big brother advice.” He said hardly believing what he was about to say to her. Then again he was hardly not going to check out any guy she chose to be with, so really between the two Hudson siblings, a fire department and any favours he could muster. Isla was practically in cotton wool anyway. “Nothing to lose but nothing gained either and you Isla are a wonderful person that deserves a wonderful guy. Now sure the first one was a jerkface but the second one will be better and I am not going to sit here and let you be miserable for your life because of one bad experience.” He stated. “So we will get you a new guy, a better one. Put you on one of these dating sites or a swipe this way and that site and see what we can do for you. You deserve to be happy and I want that for you. So you’ve a new car... sort of and we’ll find you a new guy to go with it. Trust me, we’ll throw a few good ones your way I swear.” He said wondering who he could dig up in the grand scheme of things for her. “Job preferences beyond independently wealthy?” He asked her wondering if she wanted something service like or something more nine to five job. "Oh, god, anything but a firefighter!" Laughing, Isla glanced at her brother. Sure, there were good, dedicated men in the fire service, men who were comfortable holding a baby, who opened car doors for you but didn't think you weren't capable, men who rescued kittens from burning buildings...men like her brother. But the majority, well, they were twelve-year-olds, thriving on the adrenaline rush, playing with the red lights and sirens, cracking fart jokes and scoffing at the routine types of calls. And she didn't want to baby-sit, she wanted a grown-up, with a job to support himself, but not so serious that he couldn't play...it was a matter of knowing when to play. Of course, more than anything, the statement was just part of an ling-time joke, one she wasn't about to let up on. "Of course, I hear they are good cooks...well, most of them, anyway!" Laughing, she shook her head. "And we'd be hard-pressed not to find one better than Jerk-Face...man, I don't know what I was thinking." To be honest, though, the man had been charming to begin with, a sweet-talker, but if she'd really been paying attention, she would have seen the signs before they manifested in abuse. "Learned a lot from him, though, right? And either way, I promise not to be miserable...I mean, picking on you makes me happy...and listening to you scream like a girl on the zip line!" Steven laughed as he nodded to her anything but a fire-fighter. He could think of nothing worse for his little sister. Sure he worked with those guys and yes they were great but it was like working with toddlers at times. Smoke eaters were staying far far away from his sisters, in his eyes sure great people but the last thing he wanted was for them to be waiting to hear from a guy who might not finish shift. It was that or they were kids who knew no better than, well he was hardly going to repeat the things he had heard them talk about. Nope his sister was never going to be break time conversation. “Yeah yeah bring it on, I’ve not killed you yet with my cooking and in some places it’s considered Michelin style cooking. Just on the crispy side.” Steven said chuckling, “But then if you want me to learn to be no crispy chef then sure, I’ll make you the chilli stew that causes all the fart jokes.” He offered smirking; yeah some chilli was just not designed to be eating at work. “Hey you were thinking the guy was great and sure he might have been at one point but... well you’re away from the guy and I failed to not see it sooner too. So never blame yourself for it, blame me and I’m not repeating that mistake so any potential boyfriend gets a full background check. I mean even down to the colour of his or her socks.” Steven stated knowing he had been lax once and it was never happening again. Not with his sisters happiness at stake. “Good because you will never be miserable unless I make you so but that’s my right as older brother here.” Steven explained grinning as he shook his head, “What if I only screamed because I knew it would make you happy? And since when do you get to pick on me? I thought we were friends at least.” He said putting on his best faking it upset pout that he had tried to master over the years. He had two sisters that could turn on him, he had to attempt some sort of defence system and a pout and sad eyes was all he had. Isla Hudson,

"First off, I don't need you to make me miserable, I think I can do a fine job of that without any help." Her grin widened, she certainly did have a knack for trouble, as much as she tried to behave and follow the rules, mostly because she was too afraid of getting caught and getting into trouble. It was funny, it seemed like some people could get away with things, do whatever they wanted to and it would never come back on them, but as soon as she stepped off the path, BAM! Busted! "Second, you didn't fail me...ever...you couldn't, even if you tried." She shrugged as she looked up at him, thinking back on all the things he'd done for them, and how many times she'd gotten angry with him and yelled and carried on. But she'd been a kid then, confused and hurting, and honestly, without another outlet that didn't conflict with her 'do the right thing and be the model good-girl all the time. There were times that he'd caught the brunt of it. "So, I'm glad you wanted to make me happy by screaming like a girl and I'm glad I could do something to make you happy. So, are we going to race home now? I bet I can leave you in the dust!" Steven Hudson, filler filler filler filler I don't do word counts, wouldn't have joined if there had been a word count, am not happy no one asked us filler.

“Why are you making yourself miserable?” Steven asked her as he quirked his brow, no that was as unacceptable as anyone else making her miserable other than him. He returned her grin as she did have a way of find trouble but then Steven wanted her on the right path. Busting her stepping off that path was well, it was his job and sure he enjoyed it at times but only because he was trying to keep her from an orange jump suit. Not that he ever thoughts he would go that far but then safer not to test the theory. “Thanks but I can think of several times I have done that, notably Jerkface but I promise you it will never happen again. I know it hasn’t always been easy but thank you for being the best sister a guy could ever ask for.” He said knowing that he had been an ass at times but it was always to try and be there for them. Steven knew that the hurt had to go somewhere, he had channelled it into trying to step up for his sisters, usually in the most annoying way possible and yes he had those days when he had lost it completely. Yelled and said things he might never have ordinarily said but then the circumstances were what they were and they had gotten through it in one piece, mainly. “It’s all I want is to make you happy but I hate to take it away when I beat you home in the mustang.” Steven said grinning at her. “Because I know for a fact that if my Taurus goes over forty then I’m making sure that car never goes over thirty for you for safety reasons. I’ve seen you drive that Kia.” He teased her nudging her lightly. Steven Hudson,

“Thanks but I can think of several times I have done that, notably Jerkface but I promise you it will never happen again. I know it hasn’t always been easy but thank you for being the best sister a guy could ever ask for.”"Well, you do have my permission to be a little rash if someone ever does something like that again and I don't get to them first!" she told him, although she knew it wasn't necessary -- no one 'gave' him permission to protect his sisters, and no one would ever be able to hold him back. "And HA! I always knew I was your favorite!" She looked up at him with a big grin. "I promise not to tell Em, though, it gets pretty ugly when she gets upset!" Of Course, she knew he didn't really have a favorite, at least in the big picture, although she knew there were times that either of the sisters could be a trial to him and might temporarily fall out of favor. “It’s all I want is to make you happy but I hate to take it away when I beat you home in the mustang.” Steven said grinning at her. “Because I know for a fact that if my Taurus goes over forty then I’m making sure that car never goes over thirty for you for safety reasons. I’ve seen you drive that Kia.”"Me? Break the speed limit?" She looked at him with an expression of mock-shock. "Never! Besides, classes are almost over, so I won't be late any more." Impulsively, she gave him a tight hug. "You know, some girl is going to be really lucky to bag you someday, and I don't envy her one bit!" Steven Hudson,

“Trust me there wouldn’t be any need for you to get to them first. I would make sure they are disappeared for you. Besides there is no little rash when it comes to things like that.” Steven said grinning though he was protective of his sisters. No one could ever change that. It was inbuilt and frankly he would never change any of it. Looking after them was his job since their father passed and Steven was going to make sure they were both okay. “Yeah yeah favourite or not don’t let it go to your head.” Steven stated smirking, so he might have told both his sisters that but then if they never told each other they could each be his favourite. “It can do you’re right, better just to leave that between us. Though you know, when you’re upset it can be pretty scary too. You know just from a big brother point of view.” Steven said grinning at her, he could laugh about it now but when he had no idea what to do for the two of them when they were upset. Yes he had felt like he was losing his mind. He knew he could grate on each of them and annoy them just as much. Steven was hardly the easiest person to be around and yes he knew that but it came with years of living at home and trying to do the right then when he had no idea what the right thing was. Then again he was just born sarcastic, funny, charming and annoying so people just had to deal with it. “Ha, since when do you drive the speed limit?” Steven asked seeing the mock shock on her face, oh he knew his sisters driving. “That is the best news I have ever had, classes almost over and then when you start at Med, you can car pool with someone to cut down on the driving?” He suggested or he would strong arm a person into taking his sister safely to and from med just to make sure. Steven was surprised by her hug as he hugged her back for a moment and laughed. “Awww that was almost the sweetest thing you’ve ever said to me.” He joked, “But no girl is crazy enough to do that, even if you don’t envy her. Besides I’m a catch I’ll have you know, smart, funny, handsome... wait until you talk to my work partner, she loves me.” He said well she had to given they were still working together after this amount of time he thought. "Carpool?" Isla rolled her eyes and laughed. "Only if I'm driving! But then, now I have plenty of room for passengers...you know, three or four hot residents who are still more poor than me." She laughed and nudged her brother again, although she knew he didn't buy that she'd fall for a future-doctor just because he was going to be a doctor, like some of the nurses who wanted the prestige. "So, um, this new partner of yours...did you hit her over the head or something, or does she have dementia?" Teasingly, she stuck her tongue out at him, although she was glad that he'd finally found someone who would stay with him. Honestly, she didn't understand why it had been so hard, he really was a nice guy, and while he was professional and demanding when it came to work, he seemed to be reasonable, too. "Of course, I'm inclined to think you made her up just to make me quit bugging you about it." Steven Hudson,

“Urm no not the idea of a carpool, I drive and make sure that you get there.” He joked grinning, “And no hot residents... none at all. I forbid you from looking at a resident anything. In fact no dating, that was a bad idea on my part.” Steven added though really a resident was a bad idea. They were hard working, pushy and had no time for anything other than hospital work and sleep. He also knew that Isla was hardly going to be dazzled by the doctor image, no white coat romance because of a job title at least. “Oh yeah, hit her over the head and she forgot I did it so she loves me. Easy done, then we work all day then I hit her over the head again and she doesn’t remember a thing.” Steven joked though sure it was hardly the truth. He liked Kelle and enjoyed working with her and the fact she had looked past the whole first incident where he had lied to her about why they were hanging around the pier. Yeah it was a way of figuring out if she would stay and she had. “An imaginary friend... never.” Steven said sticking his tongue out right back at Isla. “My imaginary friends are at home for the week. Taking a break you know... too much in my head for them to deal with so figured I’d stick to the real world for a few days.” He joked grinning. “Then again I can also set you up with Fred my imaginary friend?” Isla Hudson,

"In your head Fred?" Isla laughed and shook her head. "No, thank you, I'm not that desperate yet! I think I can make up my own boyfriends! But you're right, the imaginary ones are probably better anyway." She grinned at him, although there was a strong tone of seriousness in the jest. Her experience with Jerkface had made her overly-cautious, but then she knew that if she was willing to ever give her trust over to anyone again, it was likely the right person...and she had the extra layer of Big Brother protection, pity the man who wanted to be her boyfriend! "As for 'too much in the head', I'll believe that when I see it!" She laughed again, then stopped by the Taurus and ran her hand over the hood. "Um...I'll call you...Gertie!" Steven Hudson,

“You think so huh? Well we will go in search of this perfect man for you and see what we get.” Steven stated grinning, at least that way he could do his snooping first and it was all out in the open about it. Rather than the rash choice of running to the CPD to call in a favour to run a name and make sure that a guy was alright. Steven knew where he had gone wrong with the first guy so making sure the second one was much better. Oh whoever that guy was if he passed everything Steven knew he would throw at the man then he was going to be a pretty decent person. After all if the guy survived his quiz, background check and general insane being then he was alrigt. “Yeah yeah, honestly its true.” Steven added grinning as he shook his head hearing the new name for his car. “How could you, Gertie? She is fast enough to be called Lightening McQueen.” He added grinning though fast and the Taurus was a little hard to see. “Gertie, how could you do that it is impossible to call such a fine piece of machinery that.” So he was going a little overboard with it but then the Taurus had been his baby for a good while and done well from what he knew. Barely many issues and when there were it was an easy fix for the most part. Isla Hudson,

"Lightening McQueen?" Rolling her eyes, Isla looked up at her brother and shook her head. "But he's a...well, a she, so...Lightening? Maybe Elle McQ?" She laughed and stuck her tongue out at him. "I'll call it whatever you want, and I promise to treat it with the proper respect...no lace in the windows, no spilling drinks inside and no spinning brodies in foot-deep mud, all right." Really, while it was a bit of a joke, she did understand that Steven had an attachment to the car, and even though having a 'new' Mustang was great, a part of his heart would be with the Taurus. "You know, I thought you were the bestest brother ever even before all this," she declared, giving him a hug, "Of course I wasn't going to tell you that before you did everything!" She laughed, but then shrugged. "You know I'll pay you back someday...you might not know when or where, but I'm going to do it!" Was that a threat or a promise?! Steven Hudson,
