"I'll pass thanks." He replied when she told him his girlfriend didn't need to know. He thought he wasn't the best boyfriend someone could have but he was better than that at least. Though a small part of him could understand how guys thought like that. If she never finds out then it's like it never happened, but to him he still saw it as a betrayal of trust. And those kind of secretes had a way of finding the light of day one way or another. No he wasn't interested in her offer and wouldn't be taking her up on it. But part of him didn't blame her for trying. "Thanks." Was his simple, almost brusque response when Felicity said she was happy he had a girlfriend. It wasn't like he wasn't grateful for the thought, he just didn't need his relationship validated by a random stranger was all. Besides he wasn't a man of many words anyway. He watched her clap and knew she had gotten the wrong end of the stick when she said he had a heart. Loki did have a heart yes, but that wasn't why he had agreed to let her tag along. He was only letting her come along so that he could know exactly where she was. And what did she mean try? No there was no try there was do. "Try?" he asked, "No, no. There's no try. There's sit in the car and do not move." He said as they walked out. "I'm not supposed to bring you with me. You get out of the car and you could get me into a lot of trouble." He said making it very clear. Loki looked at Felicity when she asked about his girlfriend and the flowers. "Actually they are get well soon flowers for my partner." He told her. "She's down with a bad case of the flu so I'm gonna take them over to her later with some chicken soup." He finished. Yes Madison was off sick which was the only reason why Felicity was tagging along for the ride. Loki was a man down right now and couldn't do everything himself as well as keep an eye on Felicity and make sure she wasn't running her own investigation and taking things into her own hands. He had enough to deal with on this case without her adding any trouble to the mix, so she was joining him, and he wasn't making it a secret that was why he had agreed to let her stay in the car. Loki was mostly quiet during the drive to the senators house, he was one for listening and taking in rather than talking and sharing opinions. It made him one hell of an investigator but not the most conversational person to share a car ride with. Once they got there he pulled up at end of the road where the house was and climbed out of the car, "Stay here." He said looking in at Felicity before he shut the door and walked towards the house. It was a large house, not surprising considering who the owner was. He stopped at the frond door and took out his badge ready to identify himself before he rang the bell knocked on the glass. Felicity had never gotten used to being passed on, no so there was something wrong with her. There had to be maybe she had come on too strong or maybe she needed to change her game she wondered. Then again maybe he was just one of those decent guys... since when did they exist? Felicity had never really met the decent guy type so Loki was a new version of a guy she had no idea what to do with. It was rare but it happened and she hated the fact that it was happening when she needed him to find her friend.
She watched Loki with his reply, he was a strange one or at least he was quite buttoned down as far as cops went. Felicity was take back by the one woman types, she would be out of business if that was the case for all but it was always strange to meet a guy like that. A guy that despite some of her best game still seemed to be as buttoned down as ever before. Still she had managed to get him to take her along with him for the day so that was something without having to offer anything in return.
That had to be a result of some sort though when he said that word, try. She knew she had made a mistake with saying anything about trying to stay in the car. “Fine I will sit in the car and not move but what if you need back up? Then do I get to move?” Felicity asked not wanting to define what she considered to be needing back up. If he was down a partner for the day the least she could do was let him know she had his back. Yes she would be getting out of the car but maybe she would wait a few minutes before she made a move.
Listening to him talk about his partner Felicity smiled jumping to a conclusion. “Aww so your partner is your girlfriend, that is sweet. I assumed cops couldn’t date but I bet she is really something for flowers and soup.” She said smiling though trying to see the detective with a girlfriend. It was difficult given the fact she was sure he was as a little quiet on the outside. Maybe a little bit of a mess on the inside but then those were the fun kind of guys, you never knew what you would get once they managed to loosen up a little.
The drive was quiet, she thought it was best not to push her luck with a million questions but when he climbed out of the car and said for her to stay there she just smiled sweetly and nodded. “Yes sir.” She replied as she froze in place to prove a point. “Not moving at all.” So yes she was joking but still she could move her eyes as she watched him ring the bell and knock on the glass door. Felicity had to fight the urge to get out of the car right then and take a look around the property on her own but she stayed.
She stayed until she saw the door open and who she could only assume was an aid or a butler answer the door to Loki. “Can I help you?” The man asked looking over Loki as if he was the last person that should be on the door step. Felicity stayed in the car trying to find the right moment to make a break for it.

"Yeah she's something." He answered, "But she's not my girlfriend." He told her simply. He didn't know why everyone thought the two were or would be a thing. They worked well together and was pretty close as friends as well, but there was nothing in it more than that. Madison was pretty yes, but Loki had no feelings towards her in that way. From the start he hadn't had the notion to be anything more, and he definitely had no inclination to be anything more now that he was in a relationship with his girlfriend. "We're just partners." He added, "And friends. She'd do the same for me."
Well maybe not get well flowers, but he meant she's bring him chicken soup and look out for him if he was dreadfully ill. "My girlfriend is actually an insurance investigator. Museums and fine art." He told her. Yes he had lucked out having Sienna as his girlfriend, though as good as she was for him he still had a bit of a way to go learning how to open up and express himself around her. Or around anybody for that matter. Loki looked at Felicity with a deadpan expression as she froze on the spot to make her point. He shook his head before he closed the door and just walked off. The woman was feisty and playful and there was something about her that Loki couldn't help but like, despite the fact that she was also annoying and challenging. Loki met some interesting characters from all walks of life in his line of work, but Felicity was more interesting than most and he liked interesting. “Can I help you?” Loki raised his hand, showing the man his badge, "Detective Loki, Chicago PD." He said IDing himself. "I'm here to see Senator Bracken. I have a few questions regarding a case." He said confidently. Not phased by the way the guy had looked over him. He was there to do his job and when it came to his job Loki was sure of himself and the authority and responsibilities that came with the badge he had been trusted to carry, and it didn't matter to him who's door he was knocking on and at what hour. It wasn't arrogance or a misplaced sense of self importance as some people tended to think. it was a drive and determination that he had inside that pushing him to keep going and going until he got the answers. Loki followed the man as he was shown to the living room and he took a seat on the couch, his eyes looking over the room, taking everything in as he waited for the Senator. Tag: Felicity Jones . Felicity glanced at Loki when he mentioned that Madison was his partner and not girlfriend. Well that certainly was a turn up for the books, since when did a partner get the other one flowers she wondered. Was it possible an affair? Surely not, Loki hardly seemed like the sort of guy to do that given she had practically thrown herself at him to help with her friends case and not once had he given her any hint that he might take her up on her many offers. Either her game had taken a serious hit or the man was honest.
“Oh she would, would she?” Felicity asked smiling, “Partners with benefits’ or are you just sticking with the ... partners story?” She asked him deciding if there ever was a time to press him on the subject, being stuck in a car with a guy who was against doing what she might normal take upon herself to do. Then talking was about the one thing she knew how to do. “So a cop and an investigator, that is cute. So do you guys work together often? I mean must be tough if you do, the whole work home crossing over issues.” Felicity said more out of interest as to how the two could work together.
Especially with the added extra of a partner who seemed a lot closer than Felicity figured they would be. She could barely contain her laugh at his deadpan expression; this one was no joker she thought to herself though like she would stay in the car. It was like being in a chocolate factory and told not eat anything. Has she been a stronger person she might have been able to trust that Loki would find the truth but no, he had been good to get her this far so now it was just a case of finding her friend. While Loki talked his way into wherever he was trying to talk his way into.
Once Felicity saw Loki go inside she waited the appropriate three seconds to make sure he was going to be in there a while before she made her escape. Well her rather gracious exit from the car to look around the gardens, well there was little chance he would keep a girl in the house or at least it was her logic. Not a detective but then looking around the grounds was legal? She was only looking not touching she thought as she made her way around the side of the building. The gardens were well kept and nice enough she thought as she glanced through some windows.
It looked like a living room she thought seeing a better window further around the house. She cupped her hands around her eyes as she peered through the window. Felicity might have escaped being seen had it not been for the audible gasp of ‘oh crap’ when she saw who was sitting on the couch. Yes, Detective Loki had made it inside as she smiled at him deciding that waving at him from the window was the best idea. At least that way he knew she was outside, it had to count for keeping him apprised of where she was.
Maybe he needed further information, her mind was hardly the most focused at investigating anything because beyond where her shoes had gotten too. She was a flailing mess at doing it though she remembered in the movies she had watched hand signals were a good start. She pointed two fingers at her eyes before pointing them at Loki before making a general flapping motion to the garden. Well she was trying the figured as she ducked down away from the window and tried to keep looking around.

Loki just glanced over at Felicity with a stoic expression when she asked if he was sticking to his partne' story, but he remained silent. He knew she was just trying to get a kick from him, that or she was a 'professional' and her mind was only on one thing all of the time. "No, our work lives are very separate." He answered. " I'm a missing person detective and she investigates art fraud, thefts that kind of thing. Our paths don't really cross." Well not unless someone gets kidnapped with a rembrandt painting tied to them. Even then he figured PD would probably have some kind of protocol or rules about them working on a case together anyway. Loki heard her laughing as he closed the door, but by now he knew she wasn't the serious type and he didn't care. She could tease, laugh and joke around all she wanted as long as she stayed in the car and kept out of the way of his investigation. Sitting in the Senator's living room Loki let his eyes roam about, taking in every detail of the room including all the paintings on the walls and the books on the shelves. As he was looking all around from one side to the other he caught a glimpse of Felicity, causing his head to turn sharply towards the window in a double take. His eyes widened with shock horror and surprise. "Get in the car." He mouthed to her, moving his arm in very big and clear gestures pointing to the direction of the car. Loki got up and quickly stepped over to the window standing square to Felicity and looking her in the face. "Get in the car!" He shouted quietly. Loud enough for her to hear through the glass but quiet enough so no one in the house would hear. Oh he had made a mistake bringing her along and it could be about to bite him in a very big way right now and he knew it. That was when the sound of footsteps came and Loki gave one frantic wave for her to go before he quickly moved away from the window. He stood in the middle of the room calm and collected, pushed his coat back as he rested his hand on his hip just as Bracken walked into the room, "Senator." Loki extended his other hand, greeting the politician with a handshake, "I'm Detective Loki, I'm with Chicago PD. I have a few questions regarding a case I'm working on." He watched to see the Senator's response and how he would react. There was often a lot to glean from a persons response. Did they have a clear conscience? Were they hiding something? Loki had his back to the window and was hoping with every fiber of his being that Felicity was out of sight and that the Senator's reaction wouldn't be one caused by seeing an escort peering into his living room! The last thing he and his career needed was for Bracken to see her. Tag: Felicity Jones . |

Felicity chuckled seeing his stoic expression, partner it was then very close but then she gathered it might work that way with cops. Not unheard of but generally she had no idea of any bonds beyond what she had learned in life. “Oh right, well I guess that would be a good thing though. It gives you something to talk about at the end of the day. If you worked together all day it might get awkward too, nothing to talk to each other with.” Felicity said thoughtfully though hearing they were both in the policing business.
Talk about power couple she thought wondering just how much to ask. She was a hooker so it was hardly likely he was going to give away about his girlfriend though any woman who was attached to the guy. Was lucky in her mind, then again the good ones were always taken in her mind. She hardly came across many of them in her line of work but then Loki seemed like the good sort in the fact he was talking her seriously. It mean more than she would ever let on.
Seeing Loki stood there mouthing something to her she just smiled at him and nodded putting her thumb up at him. “What?” She mouthed back not entirely sure if he had just told her to go a bar or not. Then when he came to the window, standing square there she was sure she was toast as she almost backed away though he was on the inside and she had an entire garden area to investigate. “Oh the car.” Felicity answered shaking her head, “I’m looking not driving.” She stated smiling at him though when she saw the frantic wave Felicity felt like a rabbit in the head lights.
Before the Senator came in she ducked down into the flower bed below the window before she tried to skulk her way around the side of the house. She took a few footsteps as she could see an outhouse or garden shed to the normal world at the far side of the garden. Glancing at the window she knew there was little chance she could teeter her way across there without being seen as she tried to hug the wall of the house and listened as best she could to Loki questions Bracken for answers.
She knew more than she ever wanted to about that man and some things even made her skin crawl though she had an idea that Loki would know if something was off. She was still convinced that her friend had been taken by the man, hopefully just kidnapped and not anything worse but then Felicity had never been one for day dreams. No she knew all too well what could happen to one of her friends in that house if they never made it home. Then having to ask CPD for help when she thought they would just look for an excuse to leave the case. No she wanted to hear what Bracken said to Loki as she clung to the side of the wall trying to listen into to muffled voices at the window.

"Yes, the car." Loki replied when Felicity finally got what he was saying. “I’m looking not driving.”Despite her smile Loki frowned sternly at her words. That was not what he wanted to hear from here and he wasn't amused. "Get in the car. Now" He repeated firmly. Trying in vain to get her to do what she was told, but there was little chance of that being stuck the other side of the window. "Felicity. Felicity!" He shouted at a very quiet level as she ducked down under the window. But he was out of time hearing Bracken about to enter the room. Bracken shook the hand Loki offered and motioned for him to take a seat on the couch when he said he had a few questions regarding a case he was working. "Of course. What is this about Detective?" He asked as he took a seat in the armchair opposite Loki. Thankfully no one had seen Felicity was there and Loki proceeded to act as if she wasn't. Keeping a calm and even keel. Loki took out a picture of Ashley and held it up. "Have you seen this woman?" He asked in a routine manner, watching senator's reaction and body language carefully. "She went missing three days ago. I'm heading up the investigation into her disappearance." He held out the photo for the senator to take and have a closer look. Loki watched for any signs of guilt as he waited to see how Bracken would respond and if he would admit knowing Ashley, play the helpful bystander who 'saw her' or if he would deny ever having seen the girl in his life. Felicity could only grin at the stern look Loki had, well from inside the building there was precious little he was able to do about anything. For a moment she was a little glad of that fact given usually in her line of work if someone snapped it was hardly going to go well for the girl involved. “What car? There are so many.” She mouthed pointing to the garage; well it was true if he never specified what car she could take off in a Bugatti or Ferrari if she could find the keys. Stealing cars was hardly her thing. All she could do what chuckle seeing how he was trying to shout quietly, it was cute if anything. Stuck under the window Felicity tried to listen, especially when Loki asked had he seen a woman. She figured he showed the photo but then it was the reaction she wanted to see. She knew looking was too big of a risk, yes she could be insane but Loki he never asked for this. A senator could be a nightmare when it came to political favours and the last thing she wanted was to cause a problem for the one detective trying to help her. Bracken stared at the image and gulped, trying to cover the action as he swept a hand through his overly greased hair. “Urm.... no I cannot say that I have.” He stuttered for a moment before regaining whatever composure he had left to give to the detective before him. “Who is she and what makes you think I would know anything about her disappearance?” Bracken asked a little too defensively for it to be taken at face value. Felicity had to bite on her lip hard to stop herself from banging on the window and screaming at the man. Could a person be arrested for just sounded evil? In her world yes they could as she almost strained to hear what Loki would reply. It had to be the sound of cuffs going onto the senators wrists, it had to be she thought he had to arrest the evil guy. (Thanks and we can both NPC the guy so feel free to do what you like with him in your post ) Red☠Frost

Felicity's grin only served to fuel Loki's anger. Annoyance began coursing through his veins and he felt it filling his body up to his eyeballs. "Don't you even think about it!" He scolded when she pointed to all of the cars in the garage. His hard blinking rapidly increasing as it did when he was angry, upset or nervous. Oh he was going to tear her a new one as soon as he was done questioning Bracken. Until then he just hoped she wouldn't do anything stupid, well more that she already had. And he hoped that she wouldn't go and get herself noticed, that was about the worst thing she could do. Loki didn't fail to notice the Senator's reaction when he was shown the photo. He had done enough door to doors in his career to know that people got nervous at the sight of a policeman. Be it due to the sense of enigmatic power and authority people associate with cops, or because their parents used to threated them that the police would take them away if they didn't behave when they was little or maybe even because of the stories of police abuse that made the news periodically. Either way it was a cops job to distinguish between nervousness and guilt, usually by evaluating a persons answers and their response to the situation. But the gulp, the stammering and the attempt to hide it told Loki that it was more than just the unwarranted sense of nervousness that the Senator was displaying. No Bracken was fine when he first introduced himself as police so it wasn't that. It wasn't until he showed the man Ashley's photo that his body language changed and the defensiveness began to start. Now Loki just had to determine if Bracken had a guilty conscience because he had used an escort or if it was more than that. Loki looked to Bracken with a calm hard blink when he denied ever having seen the woman. "Are you sure?" He pressed with his usual neutral and non-emotive manner. "Her name is Ashley Tefft." He added informatively, as if it might ring a bell or jog a memory. Loki looked at the Senator when he questioned why Loki thought he would know anything about her disappearance. He had only asked if he had seen Ashley, knowing anything about the disappearance were words out of Bracken's mouth. "I'm just gathering the facts." He said with a very light shrug. "Why, should I think you would know anything about her disappearance?” He asked, reflecting the man's sentence back to him. His tone and expression was still calm and neutral. Loki was being skillful at asking questions without making accusations. Subtext was such a useful tool that way, he could use it to probe for information and evoke reactions, yet the Senator would have no obvious reason to get outwardly hostile and nothing he could file a compliant to PD with. Felicity could only smile at the reaction she had managed to get out of the detective. Usually she might have known better than to press a highly strung person’s buttons but for this detective, it was a fun thing to do. Not simply for the fact that he seemed to be scolding her through the glass, the very thing she had never really had a lot of from a person helping her out. It was a relatively new dynamic for her to process and despite the fact she was enjoying the teasing when she had no possible retaliation.
The aftermath of what she was doing was sure to bite her in the behind. Felicity could only hope that this detective was the good sort, the guy who would be able to see through the politics and scandal that would be thrown at the door. Who cared about a name or a title, the law was the law and yes she broke it with a regular occurrence but still if she was caught then yes she would pay the price of that. It all went with the job, the working out first client nerves, finding out what was okay and what was off the table and while doing all of that making it look like there was no effort at all.
Felicity crouch outside the window fighting the urge to scream that Bracken knew the woman, hell she knew all about the woman and things that could make a certain detective’s toes curl if she chose to tell him. Felicity stifled a gasp when Loki said her friends name, he was listening she thought to herself almost wanting to jump out and thank him there and then.
“Gathering facts and you think this Ashley woman would be in my house?” Bracken asked doing his best to look shocked over the question in the first place. “Really detective I think you’ve managed to get a trail or two crossed somewhere around the front gate.” Bracken said looking more and more nervous though the greasy smile of a politician trying to hide it all way. “And how would I know who this woman is, has she worked on my campaign or worked for me because she has a face I would never know.” He adds shrugging it off entirely for a moment though between the worried look and the slightly higher pitch it was an idle cover of a misdirection.
Felicity still stood outside stepping to the left slightly to try and get a better position to hear when she heard a twig snap under her foot as she froze there for a second. Wondering if it just sounded loud to her or if anyone else inside had caught the sound. Could be a squirrel she thought though doubtless she was stuck to the spot and now in fear of getting caught hanging around outside.

“Gathering facts and you think this Ashley woman would be in my house?”That sentence caused Loki to lift his head slightly as he looked at the Senator. He had simply asked 'Have you seen this woman?' It was an innocuous question. Have you seen her? that was it. Loki hadn't said about knowing anything about her disappearance and he certainly had not said anything about Ashley being in the house. Those were words out of Bracken's own mouth and those words told the detective a lot more than the sentences they had formed to make. And coupled with the hidden nervousness and greasy smiles convinced Loki that this guy was definitely suspect number one, heck, in that moment he was sure the guy did it or was at least behind it all. Loki now had a place to start and stuff to work off but he had to tread carefully, he couldn't push too hard or risk spooking the guy right now if there was a chance that Ashley was still alive. He needed to get evidence and a solid lead that he could prove, but giving the Senator enough rope to proverbially hang himself with seemed to be working right now. “And how would I know who this woman is, has she worked on my campaign or worked for me because she has a face I would never know.” That was when a snap sound caused eyes to turn towards the window. Damn it, Felicity! The detective chided in his head. "I'm just trying to determine who saw her where and when prior to her disappearance, routine procedure. Thank you for your time." He replied casually, shaking the Senators hand to quickly distract his attention back. Leaving right now wasn't his first choice, but given the situation with his twig snapping friend outside it was probably the wisest thing to do before anyone would notice Felicity, if it wasn't too late for that. Loki took a few steps towards the door before stopping and turning to look back at Bracken, "Oh I have to ask, where were you Friday night?" He asked in a perfunctory manner. Making as if it was an afterthought and that he was asking just to tick a box as a formality. Tag: Felicity Jones . |

Felicity wanted to storm in there and arrest Bracken herself though she could just see the look on Loki’s face if she did. She was sure which one of the two would end up in cuffs though right then Felicity wanted to go and torture the truth out of the man. In a way she felt lucky she had brick wall and glass between her and the man who she was sure had harmed her friend.
Bracken however could only just stare at the detective and try to work out how to spin the entire thing. He hardly took kindly to a cop coming into his home and asking about an escort, let alone one he knew a little too well if he was honest about it. The fact he was asking at all had sweat starting to appear at his temples as he tried to do his usual laugh and smile to weasel his way out of things.
Shaking the detective’s hand Bracken glanced out to the window as he guessed it must be an animal or a stray cat. “Of course detective and as one of the city’s finest I would expect no less. I’m very glad we have detective’s like you looking after our more unfortunate citizens.” Bracken added, the at grease smile plastered right back over his face.
Felicity wanted to stay by the window, she wanted to listen to what was being said but the fact her heart was in her mouth and her feet seemed to be giving her away. Obviously covert anything was a little out of her grasp as she tried to tip toe right back to the car. At least that way she could claim she left for the car right after Loki had told her to. He was a detective sure but a small white lie that she went straight back to the car, that was okay. It saved him any further thoughts of killing her she was sure.
Bracken breathed an early sigh of relief watching the detective leave as he plastered that smile back on his face as he saw the man turn. “F... Friday... well I... ” He stuttered as he paused thoughtfully trying to look innocent in his reaction, while thinking about what he could say. “I’d have to check my schedule, my staff likely know but I think it was the Hamilton fundraiser that night.” Bracken added knowing he had been there first, early on in the evening and had left after an hour of hand shaking and well wishing.

Loki did not fail to notice the sweat on the senator's face and the superficial laugh that was a poor attempt to conceal his nervousness. This guy had something to hide no doubts, but if it was that he used the service of an escort or if it was something much darker than that was something Loki still needed to find out. Unfortunately he had to cut short his chance to glean any more insight and information from the unprepared politician right now, thanks to his Jr detective outside. “Of course detective and as one of the city’s finest I would expect no less. I’m very glad we have detective’s like you looking after our more unfortunate citizens.” "Uh-huh." Loki Replied flatly, before glancing around the room behind Bracken one last time. Loki saw the smile that the steamering politician plastered on his face when he turned back and it only served to strengthen his instincts that the guy's nervous behavior was coming from guilty. “I’d have to check my schedule, my staff likely know but I think it was the Hamilton fundraiser that night.” Loki pulled out his notepad and wrote down the word 'Hamilton' before tucking the notepad back into his inside pocket. "Okay." He said before turning and heading out the door. Loki walked towards the car shooting Felicity a look as he approached, his stride and body language clearly showing his annoyance. Grabbing the handle he opened the door, slamming it shut again after he climbed inside. Once he was inside he immediately turned his head towards Felicity. "I told you to stay in the car!" He scolded, his voice just below a shout. The cross detective quickly fastened his belt and pulled away before anyone saw them together. He brooded in silence for a moment until they was clear of the street. "I let you come with me to stop you from interfering with my investigation and that's exactly what you did." He began, his tone annoyed but back to a normal volume. Loki gripped the wheel in frustration and let out a swear word that no escort would be no stranger to, "You've just made my job ten times harder."He looked over at the woman next to him, "Do you understand you've just voided any potential evidence at Bracken's house, do you realize that? What do you think undermining evidence is going to do for your friend, hug? When I tell you to stay in the car I mean stay in the car, I'm telling you for a reason not just to tell you what to do. Loki shook his head, "Do you realize how much trouble I can be in for bringing a civilian on an investigation?" Did she even care? The detective mentally debated if he should dump Felicity back at her place or if he should keep her with him to make sure she didn't go back to the senator's house to cause even more trouble as he headed for the Hamilton. Bracken looked at the detective, perhaps he would be favoured by the sort who grumbled at their jobs and were only looking into it as a favour. The sort that would sooner shove the case off their desks than take on a guy like him though the flat reply from Loki told him otherwise. Bracken kept that smug sweaty smile on his face as he tried to shuffle over the fact that he knew Ashley. Once a politician always a politician, if he could lie to his constituents then he could convincingly lie to the detective he was sure of it.
Felicity smiled and waved at Loki from the car, she was in the car she thought what more could he want from her though the look she saw. It was clear that the detective actually did expect her to stay in the car, since when was that actually a thing. Felicity could see that he was angry even if his voice was just below a shout, it would have been easier to handle if he had shouted. It was something she was used to but keeping that just out of reach, that was a new thing to her. “I told you I would and I did... for a while.” Felicity replied pushing her luck entirely.
The silence could have killed she was sure as she pulled on the seat belt as she glanced back at the house. It felt like she had just left her friend there, that she had just made everything worse. Felicity glanced over at Loki as she listened to his annoyed tone, even the way he gripped the wheel she could tell he was upset. The swear word was what she was used to and common ground for her too. “Ten times harder, why because I was looking for my friend and not listening to stupid answers from a sleazy guy?” Felicity questioned, “Yes she is my friend, of course I’d interfere.”
It might not have been her smartest move in life but then given what she did, it was hardly known for smart life choices. Felicity folded her arms across her chest as he glared at Loki. “What if you had been shot in there? No witnesses, what if Bracken had done something stupid it is just you on your own. I was trying to help.” Felicity explained, mostly in finding her friend but she knew better than to leave people alone with a guy like Bracken. “I’m sorry okay, I don’t want to void evidence but I only poked around in the garden. I couldn’t get to the shed. So I didn’t see any evidence to void.”
Felicity rolled her eyes hearing Loki talk about the trouble he could get into. “Are you seriously that rigid in your thinking?” Felicity asked, her eyes glancing over him again as she decided she pretty much had her answer. “Jeez, you need to relax and learn to bend the rules a little. If they found me then you arrested me earlier. At least that’s what I’d say; cover the guy’s backside that is helping me find my friend. Do you really think I’d throw you into trouble for this? I’d spin a story or just call a few of the CPD on the payroll if you know what I mean.” Felicity winked for a moment before she lost the humour in it.
“Do you really think I’d get you into trouble when you’re the first cop to listen to me?” She asked almost hurt by the fact he could think like that. “You are helping me, that means something to me at least. Sure I might not be able to make you chief of police or something but I can help you and will do anyway I can.” Felicity offered before shrugging, why should she be surprised that he would be mad or think about the trouble he could get into. “I’m sorry.” She added as she glanced out of the window of the car at the street.

Loki just shot Felicity a sideways glance when she pushed her luck saying she stayed in the car for a while. Her feisty and plucky spirit was something Loki rather liked about her, but it could also be frustrating to say the least. "Yes." Loki replied. "Because those 'stupid' answers tell me a lot. It's not just about what he says, it's about how he says it, how he looks while he says it and what he doesn't say." He continued. "I've been trained what to look for and it's my job to spot when someone is BSing. I know you want me to kick the door in and just call the guy out but I can't. Just let me do my job." He finished, the anger in his tone easing a little. "You don't know what evidence we look for. Sometimes it can't even be seen until you really look for it, like a hair or a fingerprint. A footprint in the dirt or scratch in the paint on the wall, all right? Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean there isn't anything there." He explained, wanting her to understand why it was important and why he got angry that she had left the car. "Shot?" Loki all but scoffed, a hint of amusement mixing in with his slowly fading annoyance. "And what would you have done? Huh, tell me what would you have done if he shot me?" The detective had to ask. "How are you going to back me up?""Do you have a firearm?" The question was rhetorical...but then given her line of work it was possible she could have one for self protection, and if she did he'd want to know. "Do you even know how to fire a weapon?" He added in the same breath. "Do you have a permit for a firearm? Or a badge so you can shoot a government official in the line of duty without getting arrested?" He went on. Making his point and showing her how flawed her logic was, not out of meanness but so that she would think things through in the future. Life wasn't like tv, a civilian couldn't just go running into a potentially dangerous situation to play 'backup' to a cop and save the day. Loki bit his proverbial tongue when she asked if he was really so rigged. Here it comes he thought to himself. The 'My friend is in danger' the 'throw the rulebook out the window' speech. But then his expression softened a little and he looked over at Felicity. Blinking as he listened to her say how she would have spun a story to keep him out of trouble, that she had his back and wasn't gonna throw him under the bus. Sure she didn't quiet get how it all worked, that there was protocols in place and that he hadn't followed them which could cause him issues if she stood up for him or not, but still he was a little...touched. Then when his companion apologized and looked out of the window Loki pulled the car over. Her friend was missing and he felt for her, he didn't wear his heart on his sleeve but he cared for people sometimes a little too deeply and he cared for Felicity right now. And Ashley too. The detective looked over at her with a softer expression, his annoyance now completely dissipated. "Hey. Hey, look at me. Hey." He coaxed her to look him in the eyes, using his calm, professional tone once again. "I'm gonna find your friend." He assured her. "I hear what you're saying. You're friend is missing and nobody would listen, I'm going to find her. Here's what I need you to do for me, I need you to be straight with me." He told her calmly. "Be straight with me and I'll be straight with you. I don't need you to work me and say what I want to hear, I don't need you to offer favors or pull strings, okay? I just need you to listen and I need you to be honest. If you say you'll stay in the car stay in the car." Probably not what someone in her line of work was used to hearing then again maybe people told her stuff like that all the time just to get what they wanted, either way he actually meant it.
