“Yes alive, we all want that but we need the information to go on to do that.” Jia explained not wanting to panic the woman but there was the possibility that he might not get out alive. If he made rash choices or gave anyone a reason to shoot. No she had to explain it as she saw the confusion and concern on Andrea’s face. It was entirely possible that Andy was innocent and from the looks of it Jia was leaning in the right direction over it but she needed the evidence. Jia was less than thrilled with the option that the person who hurt Rachel could still be out there but the fact was, if Andy was innocent then it was the truth. “Okay, I understand what the cops said at the time but I need you to think about this for me. Was Rachel ever left with your current husband on her own before she went to stay with Andy?” Jia asked her, it would give an indication she thought to at least say a time frame for bruises that Wesley had found out about. “Bruises take a while to show, you know yourself you can find one and think, when I manage that and it could be something from a few days before.” Jia explained. Mystery bruises, she usually got them after thinking she had escaped injury until she found that one spot that hurt like hell a few days after getting hit or bumped. Jia especially hated when someone tried to take over her scene, this was hers because she was there at the time, she hardly needed some swat want to be coming in and taking over her scene. Jia watched Andrea and Rachel leave with an officer as she had to hand it to Lockwood, he was good with his tone of voice. She almost believed it was for their good to be out there. “Yes I am, because I was here first and if the guy wanted to shoot someone he would have done it already.” Jia stated glaring at him still as she nodded. It was clear by the tone of voice that Sgt. Lockwood was unhappy with her stating she was in charge but if he thought for one moment she was giving up on this, woah he had another thing coming. “I believe he is innocent and what are you going to do for him? Take away the people that are working in there to help him out. The reason he isn’t shooting anyone is because he has people to shoot. I am working with the suspect which is more than can be said for you.” Jia snapped wanting to shoot the guy herself just for good measure. “You know I am an arson cop but at least I’m not a cop that has to mention another cops job. You know if you need reminded of yours then I’m sure the academy would gladly have you back.” Jia stated smiling sweetly as she muttered something about him being an idiot in Mandarin under her breath. “Oh by all means go and ruin the rapport I have with Andy, go ahead and start from scratch but if people die. I want it on the record that ‘hostage negotiator Lockwood took over.’” Jia said as she folded her arms across her chest. “Go save a hostage somewhere else where you are needed Sgt. First on scene and I’m not letting this go. Take it up with the twenty first.” Jia stated deciding she would get the entire precinct involved if she had to at this point. Jia glanced at the phone that was ringing as she picked it up holding a finger up to Sgt Lockwood to silence him. “Hey, how are you doing in there?” Jia asked not sure if it was Andy or Wes she was talking to but a power struggle outside was going to do nothing to deter her from doing her job. "Yes of course she's been alone with him, he's her father." Andrea replied, still upset and confused. Why wouldn't Rachel be lone with her own father? He was her father and he loved her...right? Andrea nodded with a frown when Jia explained about bruises taking time to show, she knew what Jia was getting at but still part of her mind wouldn't accept what she was trying to say. It was too horrible a thought and she pushed it to the back of her confused mind as she and Rachel followed the officer outside. “Yes I am, because I was here first and if the guy wanted to shoot someone he would have done it already.” "Oh you was here first." Lockwood started with a mocking tone, "Sorry I didn't realize it was whoever got here first that mattered and not training." He added before looking to his men, "Pack it up boys, Detective Yang was here first. It doesn't matter if we're hostage rescue or not."One of his men smiled and another of them stifled a laugh, though they didn't get evolved in territorial dispute. Lockwood turned back to Jia, "I'm not trying to take away the people helping him, you think he's innocent knock yourself out and look into the case. Just don't do it in my way." He told her. "I'm not trying to take away the people helping him, believe it or not I want to help him too. That's why I'm here, it's my job to try to get him and everyone else out of that room alive. Now I can waist precious time standing her having a p***ing contest with you or I can start working on getting everyone out before someone gets shot." He added. "Just because he hasn't pulled the trigger yet, dosen't mean he's not going to." He had seen things go south at the eleventh hour before and he wasn't ruling that out from happening this time either. "And as far as the academy taking anyone back I think they might need to take you back, not me. Then maybe they'll be able to teach you that Hostage negotiators do the hostage negotiating, and that arson cops deal with arson. They might be able to teach you about rank too." He finished, pointing out he was Sgt. Lockwood and not a clueless rookie. “Oh by all means go and ruin the rapport I have with Andy, go ahead and start from scratch but if people die. I want it on the record that ‘hostage negotiator Lockwood took over.’” "And that's the only reason I haven't sent your sass-mouthed attitude home. I have to build up a connection to the subject but he's probably not gonna like talking to someone other than you. So go and work on your case and if I need you, I'll call you." He finished, holding his ground. That was when the phone started to ring and Lockwood had his team set up equipment so they could listen and record the conversation. “Hey, how are you doing in there?”Not so good. Wesley could feel his body growing weaker and he knew it was only going to get worse, but he couldn't say anything. Heaven forbid Andy thinking he was trying to be clever by playing the 'I don't feel so good' card. No he was growing physically weak and was feeling increasingly anxious, but saying that wasn't gonna help anyone. "A little tired to be honest." He replied, his voice just as sober as the other times he had talked with Jia on the phone. "I've narrowed down people who had access to Rachel. She took dance lessons and her teacher would sometimes stand outside with her after class while she waited to be picked up. She went on play dates at friends' houses after school. And finally she had a private touter come to her house once a week." He gave Jia the relevant names and addresses of the houses Rachel went to and the people who had a chance to be alone with her. "But Andy is confident that Rachel's father is the one who hurt her. So start there, Detective." He added, looking at Andy and his gun. He wasn't telling Jia how to do her job by any means, but he had to keep Andy calm and that's what he was trying to do. Wesley knew his mood would get lower the tireder he got and the last thing he wanted to do was mouth off to an armed gunman, or the people trying to save them all. Tag: Jia Lei Yang . Jia was trying to avoid making things worse with who was the father but then it seemed like Rachel had been left alone with both men. It made the list a little longer but also gave them another suspect. Either for her bruises or why she had them, blame one father to get them out of the way after all three in a marriage was a crowd or simply just the term of an evil parent. She was familiar with one of those herself though there were no parallels for physical abuse.
Then Lockwood became the issue, she knew she was stepping on toes but she had a handle on things for the most part. Arguing with the man about it was going to help no one but then a cops issue was a cops issue. “Thanks at least we can agree on something.” Jia said smiling knowing full well he was mocking her but at least she could feign that she believed his words about packing up despite being hostage rescue. Then hearing the laugh of his men, yeah this was the further thing from happening which just meant she was going to have Lockwood shaped headache for the next however long.
“I wasn’t in your way, you’re in mine so let me do my job and you can go in and play cowboys when the situations over. I’ll even let you guys take the credit so it looks like you did something today.” Jia sniped as she glared at the man before listening to him again. “You’re the one who’s ego’s bruised by me. Just a lowly detective from Arson squad, the high and mighty hostage rescue team is here so we all need to bow in front of greatness. If you go in there you’ll make things worse so do not school me on hostage rescue.” Jia added never lowering her glare an inch.
No Andy had kept his gun to himself so far, that was a positive step but she was no fool and knew if he did shoot someone it was on her. She had to believe that the man would have sense but then again, he was either smart or crazy though so far. She was leaning toward smart. “All due respect Sir, when your superiors are making a bull headed stupid choice then yes rank cannot come into play. I’m surprised your team has listened to you so far because from where I’m standing you’re about to get rid of the detective who has the rapport with the hostage taker. Forgive my lack of hostage training but surely that’s text book 101.” Jia replied raising her brow as she glanced at the rest of the hostage team.
Surely one of the bunch had to have some sense, Jia wondered why she had ever left the military structure for the CPD. A dead husband for sure and the military having a hand in it yes however this, this was what she swapped it for. No she would taken a charred and burned old building any day over court and trying to reason with a higher up. “Yeah well just remember my number because if this all goes wrong and you’re in charge, it’s a hostage rescue screw up. Can’t blame that on anyone but yourselves.” Jia added smiling sweetly as she heard the phone start to ring.
Hearing that Wes was getting tired sounded off, something she was missing there though having the conversation of are you really okay. The man holding the gun would likely never appreciate that one. Listening to the list Wes had for those who had access to Rachel Jia made notes of people to speak to and follow up with. Taking the names and addresses she passed it to one of the other cops as she motioned for them to make a start with the round up of the names.
“We’ll start there Wes and ask to see if you guys need anything, pizza, water or coffee. Anything just name it it’s yours.” Jia said trying to sound happy over the phone. “It’s almost over Wes just hang in there and I’ll take you for dinner myself. Food and beer on me, your choice okay? You’re doing a great job I just need you to hang in there for a few more minutes then we’ll have you out of there once we get to the truth.” Jia said trying to be positive, she had faith that they would find the truth but at what point it was unclear. Then again if the second husband caved in to their questioning, it might only be minutes she thought as she heard one of the cops saying the man was on his way there. About a five minute window away.

Lockwood was annoyed by Jia's attitude. Seriously what did this woman not get about the fact they was hostage rescue and was here to try and talk the guy down before they would even think about going in the room and putting a bullet to him? It was their job and not hers. And if she hadn't built up a connection with the subject he would have booted her out so fast it would have made her head spin. But to his frustration he needed to keep the argumentative woman around because she did have a connection with the subject if he liked it or not. "Why are we still even talking about this?" he asked rhetorically. "We have our orders to be here, so we're gonna do our job and try to get everyone out alive if you like it or not little miss arson." He told her plainly. "So you do your job and let us do our..."That was when the phone rang and Lockwood stared at her as she answered. “We’ll start there Wes and ask to see if you guys need anything, pizza, water or coffee. Anything just name it it’s yours.” Her tone sounded happy, Wes knew she was just trying to sound that way for his sake and even though he knew that was what she was doing it still helped. When she sounded worried would be when he really started to worry. "It’s almost over Wes just hang in there and I’ll take you for dinner myself. Food and beer on me, your choice okay? You’re doing a great job I just need you to hang in there for a few more minutes then we’ll have you out of there once we get to the truth.”Wesley just wanted to go home and she was practically offering him a date, well not a date-date obviously but the promise of a dinner. He appreciated the sentiment but truth was all he wanted from her was for her to get him out of the room, for her to get him home safe and sound. Oh she made it sound like she was about to do that any second and that they'd all be out of there any minute, but truth was that Wesley had no idea how long they'd be in there for. It could be 20 minutes it could be hours, and with her offer to get food and drink into the room something told Wesley to expect it to be hours rather than minutes. "Hold on one moment and I'll ask." Wes replied before moving the phone away from his mouth and looking to Andy, "Detective Yang is asking if we need anything, water, coffee, food." "Food? I haven't done all this to have a tea party in here. Tell her the only thing I want is justice!" Andy replied, "Does she really think I'm gonna open that door for 'food' and let a bunch of armed cops storm in? Does she think I'm stupid?!" He said rather agitatedly. "No, no one thinks that." Wes said trying to calm the man down, "She's just trying to be helpful, that's all. It's her job.""If she wants to help she can arrest that monster for hurting my baby! It's been how long and she hasn't actually done anything. HAVE YOU, DETECTIVE?" He shouted for her to be able to hear over the phone, "I'm not stupid, she keeps saying it takes time, it takes time but nothing seems to be happening. Tell her to hurry up because if she doesn't stop stalling I'm gonna show her that I'm not playing here."Wesley swallowed with a deep frown before putting the phone back to his ear, "That's a no to bringing anything into the room, Detective." He said, paraphrasing Andy's reply. Though she had probably heared half of what was said anyway. "Andy just wants you to hurry up and get justice. He said you had better stop stalling or there's going to be a problem." He added, a nervous edge in his voice as he relayed the message. Oh how much longer was this going to go on for? Was he gonna make it our of this alive? And how long was he gonna be able to hold it togeter before he simply felt too weak? "Please hurry, Detective." He said at that last thought. Wesley was worried himself about what was going on and he could only imagine how worried everyone on the outside must be for them all. No one had talked to any of their loved ones and no one on the outside knew if everyone on the inside was ok and vice versa. It wouldn't be long before the outside of the building would be surrounded by the hostages' friends and family if it wasn't already. But then if it was Wesley wouldn't know that coz all he could see was the inside of that room he was trapped in. It wasn't much longer when an officer told Jia that Rachel's real father was being brought down by officers. They was just getting past all the cordons and crowds and would be inside in a couple of minutes. Tag: Jia Lei Yang . |

Jia just smiled sweetly at Lockwood, “You’re still taking about it, I thought we had this agreed.” So yes Jia understood why they were there but she hardly needed some knuckle head guy telling her what to do about a guy with a gun in the next room. Little miss arson, oh she liked that title as she considered setting fire to the man’s shoes as he stood there. No too easy she thought, maybe his car in a couple of days just to prove a point however she was never that vindictive.
No next time Hostage Rescue needed a fire investigating she would make sure she was on that case just to rattle Lockwood and maybe drag her heels on it a little too. Not that she would drag her heels but it rarely hurt to make another cop think that was what she was doing. After all who annoyed the little miss arson with the matches, sure she was a few feet from any petrol right then but it only took one match to do a lot of damage and the lawyers office was mainly paper. Pushing the satisfying thought from her head Jia focused on the call with Wes, she had to sound happy to make sure that he knew they were making progress. She could hardly discuss everything with him but she could make a good go of making it out to be only a few more minutes. Jia wanted to offer Wes something that might sound like there was going to be an end to this, dinner was the only thing that came to mind without having to eat her hat and ask Lockwood what he might suggest.
Jia could hear that her offer of food for the room had gone down about as badly as it could have done. Pizza it was a universal food but apparently not in this case at all. Jia bit on her lip as she tried not to yell right down the phone at the man or even just bust open the door to yell in his face. A bad idea when he had a gun though she was sure it would make her feel better if he could refrain from shooting her first. It was a fine line she thought though getting shot, she tried to stay away from it if she could do at all.
“Yes I think I got the no there Wes but thanks for letting me know.” She said trying to sound just as happy as before. The nervous edge to Wes’ voice hardly sat well with her though hearing the please hurry, it practically made the choice for her. No she was hardly going to be told what to do by a gun wielding man who was claiming to be innocent, it was bad enough Lockwood was telling her what to do having it from two places. This was just not her day at all.
When Jia heard that Rachel’s real father was being brought down by offices she felt a little relieved. “I’ll be right there in a second.” She said before turning her attention back to the phone. “Wes, do be a favour and put me on speaker phone in there please.” Jia asked pausing for a moment, oh Andy might not have been able to see the look on her face but he most certainly could hear the icy tones to her voice as she waited for another second before speaking firmly.
“Andy, you listen to me right now. Justice takes time and I’m not stalling, I’ve your ex wife and Rachel right outside this room with the father coming in now.” Jia explained, “We’re going to get to the bottom of this believe me. Now hear this, if you hurt anyone in that room I will make sure Rachel knows exactly what you did, parade you past her in handcuffs and you will never get the chance of justice again I can promise you that.” Jia was losing her patience with the man for all the people in that room not just herself. Andy was pushing and justice rarely happened in minutes, there was no simple way to point the blame to someone else when they needed evidence to make an arrest.
“Is that what you want Rachel to remember? That the innocent party in this killed or hurt someone because I will make sure she never forgives you if you harm anyone.” Jia stated firmly, “Now, I can slide some pizza boxes into that room with water for everyone, no cops no busting down doors just the boxes and go. Or you can cause your problem and I’ll make good on what I said. Got it?” Jia said deciding that hopefully she had made her point, “Now Wes you listen to me too, you’ll all be okay but I need to go interview the father so I’ll be back, I just need time to talk to people okay.” Jia said trying to sound happy again though it was a little forced.

"You're welcome." Wesley replied lacking enthusiastic energy in his voice. "Yes, hold on." He replied when she instructed him to put her on loud speaker. Wesley turned his head to Andy, " Detective Yang wants me to put her on speaker phone." He said letting the gunman know what he was doing before he did it. Pressing the button Wesley put her on speaker and placed the handset down.
"What do you want, Detective?" Andy asked. But he was met with Jia's icy tone as soon as the question was off his lips. “Andy, you listen to me right now. Justice takes time and I’m not stalling, I’ve your ex wife and Rachel right outside this room with the father coming in now.” Lockwood's face dropped in horror as he heard Jia speak. Andy's face was covered with a similar expression as he heard her voice over the speaker, only his expression was one of horror and anger. An expression that caused Wesley to frown deeply when he saw it. This could only be bad. "You brought them down here?" Andy exclaimed, putting both hands on his head, gun and all, and shifting his weight on his feet agitatedly. The last thing he wanted was for the girls to see him like this. No, having them nearby was very distressing. And hearing that the father was here too just filled Andy with a sense of overwhelming anger. " You brought him down here?" He said, anger and distress clear in his voice. He was losing it. "Detective." Wesley interjected with a very concerned voice. “We’re going to get to the bottom of this believe me. Now hear this, if you hurt anyone in that room I will make sure Rachel knows exactly what you did, parade you past her in handcuffs and you will never get the chance of justice again I can promise you that.” "Detective." Wes said again, with even more concern. But it was too late, Jia had said the wrong thing and she had more to add to it. The law student thought his captor looked like he was literally going to explode with a bang and make it rain pieces of Andy everywhere. But people didn't go boom physically, they went boom metaphorically and Andy was about to. "Now Wes you listen to me too, you’ll all be okay but I need to go interview the father so I’ll be back, I just need time to talk to people okay.” Lockwood physically snatched the phone off her. They was supposed to talk the subject down not push them and set them off. But it was too late. Jia had said the wrong thing and had set Andy right off. "I knew it! I knew!" Andy shouted. But he was so angry and dismayed his voice didn't come out terribly loud for a shout. "You don't care about justice! You are supposed to keep Rachel safe! You're supposed to put that monster behind bars and keep him away from her!" He shouted, this time the volume of his voice raising louder. "You want to play it that way go ahead! You want to make me the bad guy fine! I give you 'the bad guy! ""Andy! Andy this is Lockwood." He said. Quickly trying to talk Andy down now that he had the phone off Jia. But it was too late for that now. BANG!The shot rang out and the line went dead. Tag: Jia Lei Yang . (Ooc: Sorry I took so long to reply!) |
