The arson investigations were slow going, she knew the odds for most of them but it was that exact reason she had taken the drive over to the lawyers offices. She had a lead on a cold case, it was around six months old and she needed to get her hands on a warrant for the suspects place. It was a long shot at best but the only shot she had left for the case. If there was any evidence at her desired address then the fire bug was either crazy or just not that criminally sophisticated which given the petrol and a match theory she was running with, crazy was way down on her list. Jia had left a message for a Wesley Van De Camp in a hope that he could at least get her the legal document she required. After all she was taking the drive across the city and braving the traffic, it had to be worth it she thought to herself as she found herself in the queue at security. She did her usual routine of dropping her badge, gun, keys, belt, pens, note pad and change into the box provided before she stepped through the metal detectors and proceeded to place everything back in her pockets. She glanced at the floor markings for the buildings as she found the appropriate one and made her way to that level. It was like a maze she thought as she tried to find the front desk or what lawyers classed as one. She took a seat once she gave her name to say she was there in the waiting area or rather line of seats against one wall. All this way, security and her name was finally with reception to tell Wesley that she was there for the one thing she needed to hopefully close one of several cases on her desk. Wesley Van De Camp,

After going back and forth through the draws of the filing cabinet for a good 20 minutes Wesley finely had everything he needed at last, and sliding them into a folder he looked at his watch. "Arrh" he sighed quietly to himself. Detective Yang should already be waiting for him downstairs and he was about to be late if he didn't head down right then and just happen to catch the elevator. Wesley wasn't one for tardiness, not unless he was being intentionally obstinate for a particular reason, but today he had just been taking care of so many tasks and had been so busy that he couldn't really help it. A lot of the work had been menial tasks really, but tasks that needed to be done by someone and information that needed to be gathered for those who had passed the bar so that they could focus on doing the more 'important' work, and Wesley was putting one hundred percent into his role of being a legal aid while he had the job, after all if a job was worth doing. Wesley closed the draw and thanked the lady at the desk nearby who had unlocked the draws for him earlier. But as he took a couple of steps away from her a man came up to him, "Excuse me. I was wondering if you could please help me." He said, his tone and mannerisms were gentle and almost sheepish as he twisted his woolen had in his hands, "Sorry I was just on my way out." Wesley replied politely. "Please, I just need a second. Maybe you can just tell me the right person I need to talk to." He replied with the same tone and demeanor. "Sorry, I'm terribly busy. See if Ms. Greenbriar here can help you." He said motioning to the lady at the desk before he started to step away. Thud! Suddenly the man slapped both hands on the desk in a less than genial manner, causing Wesley to look around and causing Ms Greenbriar to jump a little intimidated by the action, "You're all the same." He said raising his voice a little, a look taking over his previously timid eyes. "I just asked for a second of your time!" He added, his voice becoming even louder, "But you just hand me off to some useless secretary because I'm just the little guy!" Great, just what Wesley needed, now he was gonna be late for sure. Keeping a professional manner Wesley turned to face the man and took a couple of steps towards him, "Calm down sir, there is no need to get agitated." He began, "Please step away form the desk." He said in an even tone, seeing Ms. Greenbriar was very uncomfortable having the angry man standing so close to her. Tag: Jia Lei Yang . |

Jia glanced at her watched, the lawyer was late. It was hardly surprising as they had as much right as anyone to me late for a meeting as much as a cop could be called out without notice however this was her day and she needed to get things done. The warrant for one was holding her up as she considered leaving the building to go and get a paper or a book to read though she knew the minute she left the building Wesley would appear and think she was the one who skipped out on their meeting. Instead she amused herself with the decor in the room where she was sat until there were only so many ceiling tiles she could count. Jia tapped her foot for a moment as she glanced at her watch again, she was usually quiet the easy going person and would believe Wesley if he told her there was another urgent matter though as she approached reception again she motioned to the stairs. “I’ll save him the trip down.” She explained seeing that the receptionist was hardly happy but she flashed her badge as she climbed the stairs to the right floor. She had no idea what Wesley even looked like though she assumed there would be some names on doors or at least a sign of who was who. It was only when she heard someone’s hands slap down on a desk that she turned to see what was going on. A lawyers office was either full of cops, lawyers and people on both sides of the table for prosecution or defence. Jia could only guess that a case had gone a little less than fantastic for the man however as she approached there was really no need to be so loud about it. Jia could see there was a man trying to calm the situation down a little though when the man took a couple of steps toward him she had that uneasy feeling. The pit of your stomach feeling that tied you up in knots when you could feel there was an off vibe going around. Jia released the clip on the holster for her gun as she sauntered up to the two men and woman as she smiled seemingly completely oblivious to what was going on there. She had no idea what the man was so mad about other than being the little guy but then were they not all the little guy at some point in their lives? “Excuse me Sirs, Ma’am.” She said smiling at them all, “Sorry to interrupt but I was wondering if a Wesley Van De Camp is available at all?” Jia was looking for him anyway though perhaps a distraction for the man might help a little as she made sure to keep a little distance in case it was required. “Sir, maybe I can help you here?” She offered the angry man glancing at him for a moment as she glanced at the way out too to make sure she at least had her bearings in case things went badly. "Agitated?" the man retorted in a mixture of a laugh and an angry scoff. "Sir, I was not trying to hand you off to anyone, I simply have an appointment to keep." Wesley said in a professionally calm tone, "And I'll have you know Ms. Greenbriar is not 'just some useless secretary.'" He added in a slightly firmer tone, before holding a gloved hand up encouraging the man to lower his voice, "Now if you just calm down..."“Excuse me Sirs, Ma’am.” Wesley looked around towards the voice, and the Man's eyes turned to her as well as she politley interjected. “Sorry to interrupt but I was wondering if a Wesley Van De Camp is available at all?” “Sir, maybe I can help you here?” Jia's sudden presence did serve as a distraction, pausing the conversation that was undoubtedly building up into a confrontation. Wesley turned his head to to her, very mildly fuddled at her appearance as he was dealing with the gentleman, "Uh. Yes, one moment." Boy, he was rushed off his feet as it was and everyone wanted him today it seemed. "Are you a lawyer?" The gentleman asked Jia, lowering the volume of his voice to a less agitated, speaking level as he looked at her pointedly. Though there was still a hint of frustration in his tone. He was giving her a chance but he could still go off any moment. "Is she a lawyer? Can she help me?" The man asked, looking between Wes and Jia as he took one step towards her, obviously still a little on edge. "I don't know. I've never met her." Wesley replied, putting a hand out towards the man and quickly taking a step forwards himself to blocked the man from taking another step toward Jia. Keeping his stance Wesley looked back at Jia, "Give me a moment. If you could just step outside." He said calmly, and apologetically. "Are you a lawyer?" the man repeated, leaning to one side a little so he could look past Wesley and see her. Tag: Jia Lei Yang . |

Jia knew that agitated was a state of mind for people, especially on their worst days which often meant meeting a cop or a lawyer for the worst case of your life. She was hardly the biggest fan given she knew what that knock on the door felt like, the look of anyone making a notification and the ten thousand reasons your mind tried to put forward instead of that one reason which made the worst sense. The pause in the conversation she hoped could help cool things down a little, no one got anywhere when they were agitated though on occasion it helped. If anything she might have yelled at the lawyer that was late but then she wanted the warrant and getting that was more important to her case than simply sniping about being sat waiting. They were all busy people and scheduals often never met the other. Jia nodded at the one moment comment, one moment and Mr. Van De Camp would be with her as she was in two minds as to who she was speaking with. The man himself or simply the person to take her to the man in question but first was the other guy to deal with as he asked her about being a lawyer. She smiled for a moment, oh if she had the look of a lawyer about her that needed a big big make over. Not that there was anything wrong with it but she preferred cop before lawyer at least when it came to her look. It was nice to hear the less agitated voice from the man as Jia considered her answer. The wrong one could make things worse though she had no idea how to bluff her way through being one so the truth was her only option as she looked to Wes for a moment before addressing him as he asked her to step outside. “Of course, you take all the time you need sir.” She replied nodding before she shook her head to the other man. “No Sir, not a lawyer. I’m a police officer but my business can wait.” She explained, it was hardly like she had a case from yesterday despite how important she felt her need was to get the lawyer side of things in place. With that Jia stepped back and went to take a seat outside again though she kept herself on the same floor this time deciding it was likely better, a just in case feeling. Wesley Van De Camp,

“Of course, you take all the time you need sir.” "Thank you." Wes managed to reply to the lady before the man started repeating his question. “No Sir, not a lawyer. I’m a police officer but my business can wait.” Given she was a cop and had asked for him by name Wesley assumed the lady was Detective Yang whom he had his appointment with. Well at least she was patient, and she had now seen for herself he had a legitimate reason why he had not been on time, so that was one less thing for Wesley to worry about. However the man was not so pleased to hear that she was a cop and and not a lawyer and he frowned when she politely told him so before stepping back out. But at least she had said her business could wait so that gave the man a minute to talk to Wesley right. Turning to the man Wesley took a breath and gave him his attention, "What is your issue regarding, sir?" He asked in order to know who in the building to refer him to. "Child abuse. My kid is at risk and I someone to help." The man explained with sincerity. Hearing it was a child abuse issue Wesley took a pen and paper from Ms. Greenbriar's desk, "In that case you need to call social services and a file a report." He began as he started writing down a number. "Please, they wouldn't listen." He replied. "Social services have to take every report of abuse seriously if you have any concerns." Wesley assured him. "No please, you don't understand. I just need some help, I need to talk to a lawyer. Are you a lawyer?" He said earnestly. "No, I'm a legal aid. But I assure you a lawyer will tell you the same as I am." He said politely, before holding the number out to the man, "You need social services not a lawyer. Call them and they will talk you through how to make a report."The man took the number and stood there looking at it somberly for a moment, a feeling of dejection and hopelessness filling him. "Now if you would please excuse me I need to see to the lady waiting for me outside. But social services will be able to give you more advice than I can." He finished. He was about to turn away when the man suddenly pulled out a gun. Wesley and Ms. Greenbriar put up their hands and a scream went out while some of the people in the office immediately went to run, but the man aimed the gut out over the room, "Nobody move!" He ordered with resolve. "You! lock that door now." He said, aiming his gun at the person neatest the door at the end of the room. He was taking the room hostage and he didn't want anyone getting in or out, especially when he knew there was a cop just the other side of that door. The person quickly shut and locked the door obediently, sealing everyone in. "Wow. Look sir, just calm down and I'm sure we can-" Wesley tried, but the man aimed his weapon at him and looked at him with empty but determined eyes, and Wesley instantly stopped what he was saying and took half a step back. Ms. Greenbriar whimpered in terror, as did a few other people in the office, "Don't try anything stupid." He warned, "Step over there." He said, motioning Wes to go over to a few people a couple of meters away, "You too." He said to Ms. Greenbriar who was trembling and practically crying. The man didn't want anyone too close to him or his gun. Wesley took her hand and put an arm around her shoulder and walked her the the others as directed, and the man put his briefcase on her desk taking it as his own spot of operation so to speak. Jia simply smiled as she left Wesley stood there with the man, this was going to be a long day she thought silently to herself. Was it bad enough that her meeting needed to be taken by some guy who wanted to define the difference between a cop and a lawyer. Depending on who he spoke to there were a lot of differences but they all worked for the same side of justice. Seeing the man frown at the revelation she was a cop Jia bit her lip to stop from snapping at the man. She swore if he turned out to be a lawyer then she would make him eat that frown for breakfast. All she was trying to do was her job and this guy thought he had... Jia stopped the minute she heard the allegation of child abuse. Suddenly her warrant was a lot less important as she almost wanted to hit the guy for not leading with that first. An at risk child was an urgent matter not something she should have ever interrupted but it brought her back to her original point. Lead with the information not deciphering who was a cop and a lawyer. Jia peeked through the open door as she saw the lawyer grab a pen and paper, well at least he was getting the help now she thought as she glanced down at her phone reading through a few files that had been sent her way. She had no idea how long it would take to get to the bottom of the situation so she was content to sit and wait in the mean time. At the mention of social services Jia knew it was the right call, yes they were understaffed, over used and fighting an uphill battle but there were ways of going about things. Her eyes went back to the files on her phone when she heard the scream. Instantly she looked up seeing the man with a gun as she took a few steps pulling out her own as she hunkered down behind the nearest desk. Great a man with a gun holding her lawyer hostage, fantastic could her warrant get any more delayed that day she wondered as she passed her phone to the receptionist outside and instructed her to dial 911. Jia tried to get a shot from behind the desk but the doors were closing and then that was it. There was no way in our out of there. Jia cautiously walked over to the door putting her ear to it so she could hear as she heard the man ordering people around. Putting her back to the wall she reached out and knocked on the door lightly. “Excuse me Sir.” She asked loudly, hell hostage rescue was far from her thing she thought taking a quick breath. Her hand tried to open the door though she found it locked and without breaking it down which would alert the man inside she was on the other side of the door where she felt like she was going to be less than a help to the situation. Sure if he set the place on fire then yes she could work away but this was as far out of a comfort zone as she could get. “Sir... do we have a problem here?” She called out knowing full well there was a very big problem. Rule one keep them talking which she was trying to do as she held the gun at her side for a moment not really wanted to use it but then if the man gave her no other choice it was inevitable. “How about we talk out here? Away from everyone there.” She suggested hoping that they were all alright so far. If the man gave up and wanted to talk then it had to be the easiest game of chicken ever though right now her heart felt like it was beating out loud as she listened intently to hear what the man was going to say or do. “Excuse me Sir.”The man looked at the direction of the voice for a moment and seeing the handle turn he walked over to the door pulled a desk in front of it. “Sir... do we have a problem here?”Came the voice from the other side of the door as he continued barricading it to prevent anyone getting in. Do we have a problem? The man frown with a set jaw as he heard her voice and her question. Yes there was a problem, several problems actually all of which could have been avoided if people would have just listened to him in the begin. But no they had ignored him at every turn and forced him into this situation. “How about we talk out here? Away from everyone there.” He had been quiet so far apart from the noise he was making barricading himself and everyone, in after all it would have just taken one swift kick for anyone to get in other wise, but at that suggestion he called out and answered, "Do you think I'm stupid?"Oh, while he was inside with everyone he had some cards to play, some leverage to make people finally listen and ACT, no way was he just gonna go out and talk about it with the nice police lady, "I'm not coming out, and neither is anyone in here until things have been made right." He said as he finished off securing the door as best he could, "And if anyone tries coming in people are going to get hurt." He warned with a firm tone. Not that he wanted to hurt anyone, just the opposite really. Wesley's hart sank when he heard the man talking, and he frowned as he looked at the mountain of furniture and objects in front of the door. This was obviously a full blown hostage situation and he was part of it, his co-workers were part of it and he knew they weren't going to get out anytime soon. He just hoped and prayed that no one was going to get hurt. "Just try to stay calm. The police will get us out, it's going to be alright." He whispered to Ms. Greenbriar who was trembling and was close to hyperventilating. Tag: Jia Lei Yang . |

Jia moved her hand away from the door when she heard an object being moved, this was far from good she thought as she took a breath hoping that backup would arrive soon. Fire was her thing, she could handle that, military even though hostages there was a reason she was in arson investigation because it took out the human element. There were just cases to work, the human side of things was few and far between but now it was front and centre. It was the lack of noise that unsettled her, sure Mr. Chatty might have been nice but in increased her risk of saying the wrong thing but silence. Silence was unnerving at the best of times as she waited to see if there would be an answer of any kind. “No I don’t think you’re stupid sir. Far from it, you came to the right place for help.” Jia stated though she imagined the man hopefully had wanted help unless taking hostages was the game plan all along. If so, she needed the national guard to rock up and help her out. Okay she thought as she listened to the man, no one in or out well that was basic enough but the people getting hurt part hardly sat well with her. “No one needs to get hurt here and you haven’t hurt anyone yet so that’s a good start.” Jia said positively, “Now I’m not going to try to come in but you need to talk to me... tell me what is going on. Is anyone hurt or having problems?” Jia almost wanted to kick herself for backing off when she had done, if she had stayed and pressed the point to get to speak to Wesley maybe she could have prevent this. “I’ll tell you what, the lawyer you were talking to Wesley?” She said as she took a breath and leaned against the wall as she called out through the door. “How about we see what can be done between the justice system and a cop okay? Talk to him if you like but we need to know what’s going on if we’re going to help you out of this and believe me. I want to help you.” Jia stated, yes she wanted to help him because that way it would solve the problem or at least try to solve one issue at a time. Getting people out of the room was task one and helping this guy with his problem whatever it might be task two and if the two just happened to coincide then so be it. She had to take a chance that this man was reasonable and still had some sense left in him. Wesley Van De Camp,

The man listened as Jia told him that she thought he was far from stupid, but he didn't totally believe her. After all she wouldn't have though he would have been stupid enough to 'come out and talk about it' if that was completely true, no she was a cop and it was her job to try and work him. But he wasn't going to be worked by anyone, he was going to make them help him. When she said she wasn't going to try and come in it was what he wanted to hear, though again he didn't completely believe her, "Everyone is fine." He shouted through the door, letting her know that no one was hurt, "And they will stay that way as long as everyone stays out side..." He said, reinforcing the notion that he didn't want anyone forcing their way in, "As long as people start listening to me." he finished. Wesley put his hand on Ms. Greenbriar, squeezing her arm trying to keep her calm as she cringed while the man talked, The mas scoffed a pained and derisive scoff, his eyes misting slightly when she said about seeing what can be done between the cops and the justice system, "I tried that already." He said with a calm anger in his tone, "But no one would listen to me. Now were going to do this on my terms." He informed her, his tone was matter-of-fact, but there was and undertone of emotion and angst as well. Truth was he didn't want to do this but he had no other choice. "I'm done talking to you through a door. Call the extension for this office in 10 minutes and don't be late." He said before promptly walking back over towards the desk he had taken as his own. Insisting on a phone call was his way of taking control and showing that he was in charge, it was his first demand and he wanted to see if it would be met. "You don't have to do this." Wesley said to him in a low, non-confrontational voice, "You haven't hurt anyone, and if you walk away from this right now you can still avoid going to prison." He tried to reason. "Prison?" He asked with the same mild derision and emotion in his tone, "I've taken a room full of people hostage in the DEA's building, they aren't just going to let me walk away" He challenged, looking at Wesley with a steely gaze. "I'm just saying the sooner you end this the better you can make things for yourself, you don't have to let this ruin your life." He tried to reason, but the man cut him off. "My life has already been ruined!" he barked. Wesley immediately became silent, he didn't want to get the guy angry, or angrier, and risk aggravating the situation, "You think I would be here if my life wasn't already ruined, huh?" He took one step towards Wesley, his gun still in his hand but it wasn't aimed at anyone, "You think I'd be here if lawyers like you hadn't screwed me over?!"
The man was obviously very bitter inside, and Wesley was nervous watching him fidget on the spot so agitatedly with a gun in his hands. "But this is not about my like. So don't you sit there and try to work me!" He said moving his arm around agitatedly, inadvertently pointing the gun towards Wesley as he did so, causing Wesley to raise his hands, "You just sit there and shut up! " "Ok, I'm sorry." Wesley said backing off, he knew the phone was going to ring in a few minutes and he didn't want to make the man any more agitated for the cops to deal with. Tag: Jia Lei Yang. |

Was it wrong of her to hope that the man could be reasoned with? A simple ‘lets talk about it’, was it so wrong to believe that he might have jumped at the chance? Offer the man a way out and he might grab it with both hands but as time went on Jia got the message that reasoning was hardly going to be the point of the day. Taking hostages in lawyers was hardly the best idea but then it had everyone’s attention loud and clear. It was almost as good as walking into a precinct and attempting it but likely would be shot for his troubles. Too many variables there so lawyers, well they were a good option. “Yes no one’s going to be coming in and we are listening to you.” Jia said as she still had no idea what he was doing all of this for in the first place. “You just need to talk to me, explain it so I can help you.” She added not wanting the guy to go off about something she had said or thought she could fix. Jia was ready with her gun outside of the door as she took a breath hearing the footsteps of more cops and security head her way. “You’re terms sure, just let me know what they are.” Jia asked annoyed that the system had failed this man, it was her worst nightmare to have that one case where justice failed but on the flip side she knew that the man might just be as crazy and the system had worked just not in his favour. That was going to be another nightmare if it turned out that way she thought silently as she waited to hear what he would say. Of course he wanted the extension number of a room she had little idea about let along a phone list. Jia left the door as she warned the cops who had turned up not to take any action. She watched as they hunkered down into positions as she raided the nearest desk. Paper and stationary was soon spread out across the floor as she frantically searched for the phone list or anything that would tell her an extension number to call. Things rattled to the floor, pens were sent flying in every direction until she found her list. It was long and some names she knew others not so much as she checked her time. A couple of minutes left, great now all she had to do was figure out the number to call as she glanced around the door for any sign of a name badge on it. She saw a name on the door as she glanced down the sheet of numbers she held before going back to the desk. A quick glance at her watch and Jia sat down motioning to the cops that were there to hold off on any action. The man still had a chance and she needed to find out what was going on to see if she could help before anything got too out of control. Her hand shook a little as she picked up the phone, her legs felt like jelly the minute she touched it to her ear. She was an arson cop, not hostage rescue and all she had wanted that day was warrant. How could this have gone so wrong she wondered. Jia took a seat as she steadied herself before dialling the number, she could hear it ringing in her ear and it had never sounded louder to her. The almost shrill tone with each ring ate away at her as she hoped everyone within the room was still safe. Wesley Van De Camp,

The man sat at the desk with his hand resting next to the phone, waiting for it to ring. He was fidgety and almost sweaty as he stared at it wondering if the cop was going to call inside of his deadline. The room was tensely quiet as everyone sat on the floor waiting for the phone to ring. Wesley looked across watching the man and he noticed the fidgeting and the near sweating. Obviously the man wasn't a cold, calculating, mastermind, he was just an average, everyday guy with a gun and Wesley wasn't sure which was worse. Suddenly ringing broke the silence and Ms. Greenbriar jumped, grabbing on to Wes' arm. Wesley touched her hand then turned his eyes back to the man. The man looked at the phone, letting it ring for a couple of moments as if building up the nerve to answer it, he rubbed his moist palm on his leg to dry it and picked up the receiver, "Nothing like living it to he last minute huh detective? I wasn't sure you were going to call." He said, a hint of apprehension in his tone. He wasn't used to anything like this and he didn't like it. "So who am I talking to anyway?" He asked, wanting to know what to call her. "I'm Andy. We're going to be dealing with each other for a while here, I'd like to know who I'm talking to?" He said getting down to it, but there was also something very human about it too. He wasn't taking any satisfaction in any of this. "You guys dropped the ball and I need you to put things right." He began. "You have to make things right or people are going to get hurt." he warned her. "Case 59634-28394. I want you to investigate properly and make things right." He instructed. "If you don't then someone is going to lose their life."Wesley clenched his jaw as he watched the man with cold eyes, he didn't take kindly to the threat. He had little patience and sympathy for people who used threats and weapons to get what they wanted, to him they were no more than bullies and brutes, but he held his tongue and resisted antagonizing his captor while there was still a chance they could all get out alive. The room seemed to lose its air as she listened to the ringing, would be pick up? Was this a test that she had just failed or was this an insane belief that if she did what had been asked of her no one would get hurt. Jia failed to catch the serial killer vibe or even crazy calculating mastermind vibe but then she had also failed to see that the man had it in him to take lawyers hostage in a city building. She wanted to yell at herself for walking away and yet she had done and this was the result. Hostages taken on the other side of a door she had to be on the opposite side. It was starting off to be a great day and now that was slowly going down hill toward the day from hell level. “Sorry, I had to find the call list for the building. Not so easy when I work across town.” She said trying to explain the situation as she heard the hint of apprehension in his tone. At least no one had been injured yet she thought silently hoping her pushing the time limit had been forgiven. Jia took a breath again trying to steady herself as she nodded though she knew he was unable to see. “Nice to meet you Andy, I’m Jia we met earlier I think when you were talking with the lawyer. I’m here to help so just tell me what is going on.” Jia asked not sure the reason why anyone would take the risk to hold lawyers hostage, sure she had thought about it on occasion. Arresting a few too but then it was all in her head, she smiled and was polite outside of that so she knew it was hardly a parking ticket that had set the guy off. To put things right, well they were getting somewhere she thought as she took a note of the case number and handed it off to one of the other officers to look it up for a moment. “Okay.. okay Andy listen to me. If you hurt anyone in there then I cannot do my job, I want to put this right for you but if you hurt anyone I cannot stop anyone from coming into that room.” Jia said glancing at the door for a moment, “Can you fill me in on this case please. Please give me your version before I look at the file?” Jia asked him not liking the sound of the threat at all. Wesley Van De Camp, (It's okay, take all the time you need and the post is fantastic.)

"I don't want to hurt anyone." He said, an upset and antsy edge to his tone when she told him she could only keep people out if he didn't hurt anyone, "I've never hurt anyone." He added, gritting his teeth slightly with frustration and emotion. But he didn't mean the people he had in the room. When she asked him to fill her in on the case he gripped the phone tighter and started on a rant, though he kept his voice at talking level, "What happened is nobody could be bothered to do their jobs, nobody could be bothered to put the effort in and find out the facts and now my kid is still in danger from that...that...I'm not the monster, he is! I would never hurt my child." His already unstable voice began to get shaky with the frustration and tears he was holding back. "I-I would never hurt my child and you have to make this right..." He looked over at Wesley and the other hostages, the gun still in his hand, and his voice turned to a much harder tone, "You have to make this right or I will do whatever I have to do." With that he put the phone down. Wesley looked over at his captor with a moderate dose of contempt dressing his eyes and clenched-jawed frown as he sat there. Great! This guy had hurt his kid and now he was threatening a room full of people at gun point because he couldn't shift the blame onto someone else and he didn't like the fact that he had been brought to justice, Wesley thought to himself. Wes didn't like being threatened and he didn't care for bullies, he couldn't wait to see the cops tackle this guy to the ground and haul him away in handcuffs, he just hoped that no-one would get hurt before then. After a moment Andy looked round and noticed Wesley looking at him, he walked a few steps closer and shot him a nasty look in return, "You got a problem with me?" he asked. Wesley looked up at him from the top of his eyes but he bit his tongue. "Huh?" Andy demanded angrily. "I know lawyers like you, arrogant and pretentious and to la-di-da, too self important to deal with the little people. That's why you wouldn't give me just a second of your time when I came in and that's why we're all here right now."Wesley's eyes filled with more anger but he refrained from snapping at the man with the gun, though he did answer him back, "I told you I am not a lawyer, I'm a legal aid." He corrected. "And we're all here because you got up this morning and decided to come here with a gun. A feat you must have gone to great lengths to accomplish, which means you had to put a lot of thought into it, which means you were planning this long before you ever spoke to me."
The pair locked eyes for a moment before Andy spoke, "Just don't try anything stupid or you'll be the first person I shoot." he warned before stepping back over to the desk. Tag: Jia Lei Yang. |

“No that’s a great thing; I can trust you more if you tell me the truth and knowing you don’t want to hurt anyone. It means a lot.” She explained though she knew she could hardly take the world of a man who had taken a lawyer’s office hostage. Jia could hear the antsy edge to his voice and not hurting anyone, well that put a new spin on the file she had on the guy. It made for interesting reading and hardly painted Andy in the best light but then not everything was black and white. There had to be mystery in the world and there had to be the one innocent guy in the system because if there was no innocent man. Then the world was too far gone for her liking. “Hey, Andy I will make this right and if you never got fair turn first time then I’m going to give you one second time but this isn’t the way to do things. This monster, if it’s true and you didn’t do this then I give you my word this guy is going to rot in jail for the rest of his life.” She stated knowing there was no way she would let anyone who hurt a child get away with it though when he spoke and put the phone down she winced. Half expecting there to be gunfire she waited as she looked over the details she had on the case. The system could be unfair but never that unfair and yes they said never identify with the captor but on the other side of the door there was a man trying to do the right thing. Sometimes doing the right thing was doing the wrong thing for the right outcome which she could understand. Jia was far from family services and this case was hardly in her wheelhouse of expertise but a building of people who were in a room told her she had no option but to do her best on this. Not that she had any other way of doing things. Jia picked up the phone again as she dialled the number staring at the sheets in front of her. She had about a hundred questions for the man but she needed to get him back on the phone first. Jia dragged the phone and cable to the door as she knocked on it loudly. “Hey Andy, can you do me a favour. Can you get a lawyer to pull the files on the case in there too. I could use their perspective too just to see how this case against you made it this far.” Jia said looking and the cops notes on it, both Andy and the father had equal opportunity to hurt the child and yet it seemed Andy came of worse with it. “Oh and before I get too far into this, do you want anything else? Food, water?” She asked as she glared at the nearest cop that seemed to be prodding her in that direction. “Whatever you want is on the city right now so choose well. Me I’d go steak but that’s just me.” She stated loudly watching another few cops snigger at her suggestion. Wesley Van De Camp,
