Sharon had been awake for days, getting sporadic bursts of sleep while Thomas was recovering. The hospital kicked her out and when it wasn’t visiting hours, she was pouring herself into her work. It was the day Thomas had been released, that’s when the suspects came into the precincts in handcuffs. Sharon leapt out of her desk. Oh there was going to be words. She tapped on her dad’s door to tell him exactly where she was going. If she just got up and left, she knew there would be words. Though when she got down to the cage, all bets were off. The suspects were separated and she wasted no time opening the first cage and slamming the one into the wall. Sneering in disgust the man looked at her. “Hey sexy, if you wanna play rough all you gotta do is ask.” Sharon’s grip tightened on his collar. She was much smaller than him but she could be intimidating if she wanted to be. “Let’s get this straight.” She snorted. “You are going to tell me exactly what happened, or I am going to make sure the next 24 hours are hell for you.”“You can’t do that. I want my attorney.” “You don’t get an attorney when you shoot feds, you little dipshit.” Okay well that wasn’t true. But there was no way she was going to let him have an attorney. No, she was going to make him talk. “You like your badge, darlin’? Because you might wanna watch your next few words.” “You shot a federal agent. As good as pulled the trigger. I am going to come after you. I am going to make sure I tell all the boys in prison they have a new toy.” She could always find someone who could lie for her, and as for getting in trouble, she knew her dad would have her back on this. Sharon was angry and she was going to make sure these men suffered. Throwing a punch to the man’s face would feel good but she restrained herself that much. “You better start explaining before I rip your throat out your nostrils.” Sharon was not usually this forward and in anyone’s face. Mess with her family and all bets were off. The only problem was she couldn’t lie to this guy if he decided to start playing guessing games. Hank glanced up from his desk when he heard the tap on the door, he smiled when he saw Sharon though when he heard where she was going he just nodded. He knew that he might have been able to stop her but then did he really want to do that? He gave her a minute as he pulled his gun from his desk and shoved his badge into his pocket. He was used to playing rough with suspects but his daughter, he knew Sharon couldnt lie so he just hoped she could get around that given what he knew already.
He wanted to rip the guys to pieces for all they had done, Erin was suffering for what had happened and not just Thomas though when Hank set foot to see Sharon have the guy by the collar. He found himself smiling at the thought, “Only twenty four.” He muttered quietly knowing if it was him it was a practical life offence against the family. Attorney, it was always the lawyers that ruined everything though he knew he had to be careful these days given he was married to one but still, she had changed his mind on his total dislike of lawyers as he leaned against the wall watching to make sure that the guy didnt do anything stupid.
Hank smirked when she spoke about shooting feds, yeah well some feds deserved it though this one. Probably not so much but then feds were like lawyers, they ruined things. Hank was more than willing to lie for her and he was still considering making the two of them disappear. When Sharon spoke about explaining Hank nodded toward the guy, “Talk to the lady before I get a little trigger happy.” Hank stated resting his hand over his gun, “Yes officers, sorry they tried to run and I just didnt feel like running today.” He said smiling at the two men as he took a few steps closer to Sharon.
-------------------
Thomas was happy to just be able to get out of the hospital; he could still remember the look on Sharon’s face that day. The look that said all he needed to know about how bad it was so freedom from the confines of the white washed walls and sterile smells was welcome. He had decided to surprise her for the day with lunch as he wasnt sure if she had eaten at all yet or if she had something though after he stopped off at the Italian place to pick them something up he made his way to the precinct.
He had heard they had arrested two others for his shooting and he had to admit he was a little curious as to what they looked like. He remembered very little about the others, just the one with the gun which was ironic given he was federal agent. Still as he made his way into the precinct he was pointed down to what he figured was the holding area or garage as he made his way down half wishing it wasnt so far as he could still feel twinges with every breath he took as he held onto the bag that held their lunch. It wasnt until he saw Hank stood there in front of cage that he saw Sharon holding a guy by his collar.
“Officer Voight!” He called out wincing slightly as he stared at Sharon, what the hell was she doing? He was impressed and scared and annoyed because if anyone found out then he was sure the case would fall through. Hank had the reputation and he wasnt wanting Sharon to go down that road too.

Sharon knew she couldn’t hold the guy for more than twenty-four hours without charging him. Right now she didn’t have anything to charge him. She was about to say something when she heard familiar tones calling her by her title. ‘Damn feds’ technically this was a federal investigation since a federal agent had been shot. But Debra had been staying out of the way. Thomas on the other hand… what was he thinking defending the guy. Cher shoved the guy to the floor before exiting the cage. She’d let him think on it. Maybe she would have more out of him or maybe Hank could get something out of him. She grabbed her water bottle up off the floor. “Yes Agent Jackson?” She could toss around last names too. The ice cold stare she had didn’t falter as she addressed him. Watching him wince only reminded him why she was doing this in the first place. She was going to let her dad take the lead on this one since the feds seemed to want to play ball. Sharon tore her eyes off of Jackson pushing past him into the hallway leading back upstairs. Closing the cap to her water bottle she hurled the water bottle down the empty hallway. Federal investigation or no federal investigation she was going to make them pay for what they did. Not much got her blood boiling this badly, but touching family was the fastest way to get her riled into this state. Sharon stayed out of arm’s reach. Right now she was pushing her independent streak. Sharon stuffed her head back into the case file. Trying to put her head back around the case. Practically ignoring the conversation she knew was heading her way. She just needed to separate Thomas from fed right now. She knew he was hardly going to stay out of this investigation when it belonged to the FBI. Sharon was on a warpath and Thomas was standing in the way. “Sergeant.” She called for Hank to come over and look at the file. Handing him the file she looked to her dad. “This wasn’t random was it?” She saw the names at the bottom of the file. Names only Hank would recognize. Sharon wasn’t even sure who they were, she’d only heard the names in passing. Sharon felt sick as she wandered off to go pick up her water bottle. Her body language suggesting that trying to touch her right now was a very bad idea. MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Hank glanced at Thomas, he hoped the guy was doped up on painkillers to call Sharon that he thought as he knew feds could be annoying but suicidal? Well that was a new one for him though he was glad Debra had been staying clear of this, it was a federal investigation but it was his house and his family that had been involved. CPD or not he wasnt going to have that taken away from him when he had the chance to make the people talk who had done this.
He watched Sharon shove the guy to the floor as he stepped forward to make sure the door was shut tight. “Sit tight cupcake.” He said smiling his best creepy grin, well they would do well to be terrified right now he thought as he still hadn’t decided if he was going to take the two of them on a trip or not. Obviously the other two needed to talk or calm down or really why had Thomas opened his mouth in the first place, they were doing this on his behalf anyway so why couldnt the feds just be grateful for once in the lives.
Hank decided it would be more fun to try and terrify each person in the cage as he went about that deciding that it was likely better that way than get involved between the two others. He wasnt suicidal at all and to get involved, better left to them to deal with it all. That was until he heard his title, had she shot him again? He wondered having heard nothing but then again... Hank went over to Sharon and took a look at the case file she had as he held it and looked across the names on it. “No it wasnt random at all... it was targeted.” He said knowing the names all too well. Hank leaned against he wall as he read the file cover to cover just making sure he had everything straight in his head.
---------------
Thomas couldnt help but stare at Sharon when she used his last name, for some reason he hadn’t seen that one coming as he wasnt sure if it was an insult or just a last name. Her ice cold stare told him what he needed to know but he wasnt about to back down on it. “Might be good for you to back off right now.” He said not wanting to tell her how to do her job but then if they shouted abuse or they were forced then it was game over for whatever case there was. That was something he didnt want to happen because either Voight facing a murder charge, no it wasnt worth thinking about. “What were you thinking? Tell me I didnt just see that because I know you Sharon and that isn’t the Sharon I know.” He stated not sure what to think about it all.
When she pushed pasted him Thomas couldnt help but sigh as he went back to following her into the hallway that lead back upstairs. Why he had chosen to walk this far today was beyond him as he felt tired but then again tired, versed his job, versed trying to get Sharon not to do anything drastic. It was going to be one of those days. He could see that she didnt want to be touched by the way she was out of arms reach as he simply looked at her expectantly as if he was looking for some kind of explanation.
“So do you want to tell me what that was? Because if it was any less than offering them coffee you could get the case thrown out.” He explained though he knew she would likely know all of what he had to say already. Thomas just stood back when she called Hank, he half expected Hank to get dragged into things too but when he heard those words. ‘It wasnt random’ he felt like he might have been shot all over again as he moved over to Sharon to try and hug her. Yeah the last time he had tried to get her off a boat when she was upset that ended in hospital too.
“What do you mean it wasnt random?” He asked looking to Sharon for answers, after all it was his case or at least he had been shot which made it his case he figured. It wasnt like he didnt have an interest in it and knowing what the motive behind it was would make for a explanation of sorts he figured.

Truth be told, Sharon was a push-over. Mark and Galacio had made her that way. Thomas was all but “head of household” as Galacio would have put it. She reached for her badge. ‘Don’t do it Sharon’ She argued with herself. Not that she’d worked to earn her badge or her place in intelligence. She was a cop because the feds told her she was, she was in intelligence because her father had wanted her close by, and safe. Sharon dropped her hand and stared right back at Thomas. He wanted answers, she knew how well the protective thing would go so she handed the rest of the files to Hank. “It doesn’t matter, I’m taking myself off the case, Agent.” She was too close to this and wasn’t going to talk about it. Sharon sighed, if it had been her way; the suspects wouldn’t even be in interrogation. “No, I don’t want to talk about it.” At least she was being honest. Sharon was tired, Sharon was angry, and Sharon was protective. Underneath she could feel the woman she was trained to be seeping out. No, that wasn’t her, that never had been her. She refused to look at Hank or at Thomas. They didn’t need to see. Hell if Hank saw, there might be a dead fed. Oh she wanted to bite back with some smart ass remark about knowing the laws. But she kept them to herself and when Hank confirmed it not being random she sighed. She’d stumbled across the names during her CI days but she wasn’t sure who they were or anything else about them. She just knew it wasn’t good. Sharon didn’t pull away from Thomas but she didn’t lean into him either. He’d officially made her mad; but she didn’t hate him. “I’m not on the case anymore. You should talk to the sergeant” She was purposefully using titles, more to try and distance herself from all of this. Clearly, Thomas had everything about this all figured out. She lightly hugged him before she wiggled free. It was more so because she didn’t want him to think he meant any less to her; but she was still at work and she had other cases that needed her attention. Ones she hadn’t recused herself from. “I got work to do.” She’d get lunch later. Right now she just wanted all of her cases off her desk. But that wasn’t how it worked. When she made her way back to her desk she grabbed one of the numerous cases off her desk that had piled up. But all she could think about was the replay of the night in her head. The sounds, the emotions, the smell of the air, and the sight of blood. It was just like anything else she knew the images would do away but there was nothing she could do. Pulling herself off the case was the last thing she wanted. She’d told herself she would see the men responsible for the shooting fry. ‘Don’t give up on him Sharon, he deserves better.’ She grabbed her gun from her desk and shoved the other case file out of the way. Marching straight back downstairs she found Hank and looked him in the eye. “Put me back under. I’m going to finish what I started.” She wasn’t really giving him a choice. “With these two in custody; no one else knows I’m a cop. Put me back under Sergeant. I have twenty four hours, I’ll get one of them to turn on the shooter and these assholes in lock up.” She whirled around to face Thomas. “You don’t get a say, so don’t’ say a damned word.” Sharon had been the only CI on the case at the time, the only one who had built up a trust bridge with them. She turned back around to face Hank. “Please?” She knew Hank wouldn’t be easy to convince but the truth was staring them both in the face. No one else could do it. If the feds weren’t going to play ball with Voight tactics, she was going to find another way; even if it meant risking her life for family, then so be it. MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Thomas watched her look at her badge, this wasnt going like he thought it might as he listened to her call him agent and he had to admit that stung. It was part of who he was, he worked for the federal government and he was already resented by his family for it. They were Chicago police to the core, military before that but he had done things different and now he heard that one word from Sharon. Agent. “Thank you Officer.” He said trying to keep this at least about work though this was far too personal for that.
Now she didnt want to talk about it? Thomas was trying to work out how to even reconcile what he had just seen with the Sharon he thought he knew. He was angry about what had happened, grateful that it hadn’t been anyone else and relieved that he could actually be standing there to be having a conversation at all. He noticed she wasnt looking at either of them but then he had nothing to say about it. If she didnt want to talk then that was fine but he knew she couldnt be going around doing that to people. Not when it was his case that they were working.
Thomas knew things weren’t right when she didnt lean into him, what did she want him to do? Let her get into a world of trouble over hurting a guy that would get justice the right way. He couldnt stand back and know she was doing that because he had been shot, no that wasnt right and he wouldnt let her do that. Thomas bit hit lip when she said he needed to talk to the sergeant, he had so many words for that but he tried to let it go as he felt her lightly hug him before she wriggled free. “Fine Sharon, I’ll speak to the Sergeant.” He stated as he glanced at Hank.
It was like he was stood there having walked into something he didnt know anything about as Sharon went to get on with her work. When she left he just looked at the bag he had, lunch well that wasnt the greatest idea he thought. Would it have been better just to go straight home or leave things be or simply just have stayed as far away from this as possible as he glanced to Hank.
-------------------
Hank stood there listing to the exchange between Sharon and Thomas, he knew that Camille had done the same thing to him when they had their arguments. Detective, Officer it was all the same in those day when they were used in context of emotion. He almost wanted to sit the two down and explain things or to just shoot both of the guys in the cage but this was a fed thing and the last thing he needed was Debra bring him up on murder charges.
Deciding it was better to let the two work it out themselves he looked over the file he had with the names. He knew the details and none of them were pleasant, the past needed to stay firmly in the past but with this it felt like it was catching up again. His house, his family all because of these names and why they had chosen now was beyond him. Hank wasnt read to talk to anyone about the case as Sharon went back to her desk. “She’ll be okay, it’s just a lot to deal with.” He stated which was about as close to a heart to heart he would have with a fed.
Hank watched as Thomas just nodded and stood there as if he hadn’t a clue where to go. And they weren’t even married yet Hank thought as he wondered what was going on beyond the obvious. His eyes went back to the file when he saw Sharon coming back and look him in the eye. It was as if she had just gut punched him with that statement as he stared at her, she wanted to go back to what they had managed to get her out from? Was he really getting this he wondered, Thomas had been shot over that. The two of them had almost been killed and Sharon couldnt lie.
Hank was glad for the moment that Sharon turned on Thomas as it gave him enough time to take a breath that he needed as he shook her head at her please. “No.” He stated firmly, “I’m not putting you back into that situation, not for this and how do you even begin to explain what has gone on Sharon. You cant lie, that is a good thing because you shouldn’t have to but I’m not doing this.” He said as he could see the words about ready to burst out of Thomas.
Thomas was surprised by her reaction as Sharon said he didnt get to say a damned word. “The hell I don’t.” He said not sure why he was feeling defensive but then again things weren’t exactly going well so far. He could see Hank standing there thinking though if the man was even remotely considering putting Sharon back then he would shoot he Sergeant himself. He was just short of calling Debra and asking for the case to be finished by the feds if Sharon went back, he couldnt let her do that not for him and not for this.
“You want to go back to where you were before? I’ve been shot once for that, twice now and I still dont know what’s going on. Hank’s right, you cant lie well enough for this work, take it from someone who knows that world. I... what are you... who and how... gahh I don’t understand you.” He said feeling the pain in his chest come back with a vengeance the angrier he got as he turned away from the two of them and glared at the wall as he tried to calm down.

Sharon needed to separate things. She sighed and when she came back to the two of them trying to figure things out. It was when Hank told her no she backed down. She was filtering Thomas out. That was until he said he got a say in this. He didn’t understand. Sharon’s glance went up to Hank and she gave him a look, the look she was going to spill the beans. Whether he liked it or not, this was clearly an issue. Sharon moved up to Thomas and set a light hand on his back. “Thomas,” she started her voice shaking. Telling him who she was… that could be dangerous if he ever chose to use it against her. But right now, he was caught up in it too. Slipping a file out of Hank’s hand she moved back to Thomas. She was careful to keep out of earshot of anyone else walking by. Pulling Thomas with her into a nearby office she closed the door. Hank knew the story but if he wanted in… she wouldn’t shoo him out. “When I came to Chicago, my past by association wasn’t pretty.” Fishing through the CI files she pulled one out and landed it on the top. The image had been blacked out and marked as deceased. “That day on the docks.. This was the woman who died on that boat. That’s who the marshals made me when I came here.” She bit at her lip. “Remember when I said I changed my name too many times in the last few years?” She sighed. “The boys involved in the shooting… they run the same circles I did when I was a CI. No, it’s not the safest idea I’ve ever had; but I will be damned if something else happens to you because I didn’t act on my instinct.” Sharon really was too close to this case but she wasn’t going to sit on the sidelines when Thomas had been shot. Sharon took a breathe. “I was raised by former mafia don Galacio Palmazio. I was raised to take over everything. I flipped everyone. I’ve made enemies. Half of Chicago wants me dead for pushing the whole organization out of New York. When I came to Chicago, the marshalls didn’t trust me. They stuck me as a CI to keep an eye on me and that’s what almost got you killed that day was the CPD and FBI saving my life. I was yanked out because someone in my circles snitched and the organization back in New York found out I was here. I refuse to let them relocate me again. Not now, not after I’ve built my life here. Maybe I’ve made better decisions in my past. But I sure as hell know I’ve made worse ones. This is my mess Thomas. Let me clean it up.” Seeing him hurt again because of her wasn’t acceptable. She also knew she was risking her life right now by telling him things. On top of that, she was risking her relationship and her dad’s disapproval. “I cannot sit on the side and let this go. I can’t and I won’t. I love you too damned much.” She shot a look at her dad for a confidence boost. Sharon wanted to find a corner and hide in it, the expression in her eyes said everything. No, she wasn’t going to cry that would just start the two men in her life fighting with each other over who caused it. “Don’t push me out of this; because believe me. I will go off the reservation with this. That’s not a threat Thomas. It’s a promise.” She admitted. "This conversation never happened. It breaks every federal guideline, but it could also get me killed. Promise me you will forget everything you just heard Thomas." Well maybe he wouldn't forget it on a personal level but she knew he would understand what she meant. Sharon tried to get more reassurance from Hank. Sharon was way too close to this case. If Hank put his foot down she didn't question him. She never really had, in the end she had been taught to back down. Her fiery personality was starting to shine through more and more but she usually took a step back when she was told to do so. MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Hank normally would have disagreed with her choice to tell Thomas anything about her past for her safety but the man had been shot to defend her so, unless something serious happened he doubted the information would get much further. If it did Hank had a special place to put Thomas where no one not even Debra would find him. Hank just gave his single nod to her as he knew there was going to be no stopping her from doing it anyway. They needed to at least know what was going on but still Hank wasnt about to let Sharon do anything to endanger herself.
Watching the two of them Hank could understand not knowing, it wasnt so long ago that he had been in the same boat though it didnt make it any easier to stand there and watch happen. All he could hope was that Thomas didnt freak out about anything because the last thing he wanted was for Sharon to be going through anything else, heartbreak wasnt one of his specialities to deal with at all. He just hoped for the first time ever that a federal agent would prove him wrong as he didnt stop Sharon from slipping the file from his hand.
Hank knew the story well enough to give her some space to explain though he stood outside the door. He was far enough way not to intrude but close enough to shoot Thomas if it was required. After all her past was a need to know and Thomas technically didnt need to know and wouldnt know much else if he took it badly.
------------
Thomas felt her hand on his back and then the shaking in her voice, what was this big secret that no one could tell him and that was affecting things now. He had worked undercover for so long he knew when he was missing half a picture and that had been the feeling he had chosen to ignore. Sharon was Sharon, the woman he had met on the boat, got shot by, she had taken a needle at the hospital and now they were talking about getting married though that seemed like a long long way away at that moment.
Thomas felt himself being pulled into the nearby office as he looked at her for the first time since he had turned his back. Thomas had guessed as much when she spoke about her past associations, he didnt general go on assignment to pull someone off a boat that was about to explode just for fun. Faking deaths was a last ditch option and not taken lightly at all though the CPD didnt need to tell him who or why and the Federal government didnt either.
He glanced at the CI file as he saw the image blacked out and the deceased marked across it. “You were with the marshals? This was you.” He said as he hoped it would all make sense soon enough. “Yes I remember that, I thought you just meant Sharon to Voight you know.” He said knowing he hadn’t asked much about her name before that. For a second Thomas wondered if she was about to tell him she was a UC cop or fed and he had been played by her or what else was there? Thomas fought the urge to get defensive about everything though only because his mind was still trying to catch up to Sharon deceased and Sharon stood there.
It was as if he was he was listening to an entire different case, the sort of thing he was used to doing and now he was shot by boys she used to be involved with because it wasnt random. He had never wished to be randomly shot more in his life than he did in that moment as he stayed quiet not too sure what to say to her. It made sense why she hadn’t told him about any of it, or at least the pieces he knew about made more sense the more he listened to her.
Was this her mess? No, how could she have known any of this would happen. It could easily have been one of his cases, he had worked long enough in Chicago to make enemies, it didnt even need to stop there as his work in DC had pretty much done the same thing. He wasnt in the friends business at all and that didnt even include Hank’s cases or Erin’s because he was sure the State Attorney would have put away many a person who would want to see her on the other side of things. “It isn’t your mess Sharon and not up to you to clean it up. Get that thought out of your head. If we are going to clear anything up it has to be the right way.” He said knowing that grabbing guys by the collar didnt work once they were in custody. It might make a person feel better but he wasnt going to let Sharon take that leap not right now. Thomas stayed silent when Sharon looked to Hank, he saw the man crack what he guessed was a smile and another encouraging nod as Thomas stayed quit trying to work it out in his head.
How hadn’t he seen any of this? He had overlooked it, every warning sign because he thought it was something else entirely but now the woman he loved was telling him she used to be a member of the Palmazio Mafia. Thomas could see the look in her eyes as he wished he could do something but the words just weren’t there yet for any of it. Thomas could only stand there and stare as he heard her talk about him not pushing her out of it and she would go off the reservation as a promise. He was pushing to have her off a case not her life but then that was what she had done since they had met.
He knew it wasnt exactly dinner table conversation but how many times gone past that he could have known about her. “Forget it? You just expect me to forget what you said.” He spluttered as he backed away from her for a moment, it felt like the walls in the office had just closed in. Hank stood at the door watching the two of them for a moment as he nodded again to Sharon. “Just give him a minute.” Hank said knowing that any longer than that and Thomas would have another Voight in his face and a bigger problem than Sharon landing that information on him.
Each breath seemed to hurt more than the last as Thomas wasnt entirely sure it was the bullet wound anymore, the woman he loved just told him she wasnt who he thought she was and he had signs for it but he didnt follow them. He hadn’t pushed so was this on him because he had been fooled, or was it fooled? He still loved her, that didnt change at all even now knowing what he knew but was she even the same person or did the Sharon he love now change too?
Thomas looked back at Sharon as he took a few steps to her. “So, the docks the person before is you. You were former Palmazio but now you’re CPD. You flipped them and stayed in Chicago after the Marshals used you as a CI and then on the boat is where I met you.” He said trying to get his time line straight of events as he realised that Debra must have known this all along which he still wasnt sure if he was annoyed, angry or just confused about.
He swallowed for a moment as he took another breath to calm himself. “Let me get this straight, after flipping a mafia, collecting enemies, staying in the city you want to what go back into that world to what? Get the orders man?” He said as he tried to get on the same wave length as to how one she thought Hank would remotely say yes, him too even though he didnt get a say and on what planet it was a good idea. “This conversation never happened, breaking federal guide lines and it could get you killed. So what you want to go on a suicide mission now? Are you insane?!” He asked her feeling himself starting to get worked up again.
“You cant sit on the side lines because you love me too much, well here’s my deal I cant let you do this because I love you too much. I thought we were talking about marriage not crazy ideas that you’ll get yourself killed over. I promise you i’ll forget but there’s a lot I wont and this is one of them. You don’t get to throw your life away doing something nuts because that’s exactly what I tried to prevent. Yes I got shot but you’ve got the two guys in the cage that did it.” Thomas said trying not to get mad but on what planet did she think it was a good idea.
“You cant lie Sharon, what happens when they ask where you’ve been? Your answers not good enough, they ask again, they threaten you what then? Trust me I know how it works and you’re not doing it. I dont make it a habit to tell anyone what to do but you’re way to close to this... for me to be the reasonable one here when I got shot... that should tell you how far out you are on this.” He stated as he could feel the pain starting to seep back again as he reached out for the filing cabinet with his free hand. “I’ll make you another promise, if you so much as look into it i’ll arrest you myself and don’t think I wont here. I love you too much to lose you to this.” With that said Thomas leaned against the cabinet as he reached out his arms to her, dropping the bag he had lightly on the floor. He figured he wouldnt push her just in case he had managed to ruin things within the space of an hour so he felt it up to Sharon to see what she wanted to do.
--------------
Hank wasnt sure if he was surprised by what Thomas said or scared as to what Sharon would say or do back though each side had a point. There was someone else to get in this case and CI or not it needed to be done. Putting Sharon back under with the mafia wasnt going to happen, she couldnt lie and frankly it was too much of a risk for him to take. He couldnt ask Thomas to do it because hell he was the one who got shot and putting someone else it was just a whole other kind of bother as he thought about the options.
“We don’t have to do anything, I’ll call in a favour and that’s all you two need to know about it.” Hank said deciding he would make another deal with the devil, after all someone had threatened the peace between the Mafia and the CPD, who better to sort out his own ship than the man himself, Cooper who had a deal to uphold too. If Hank gave him the information, then it needed to be dealt with and from that Hank doubted the problem would be alive for long.

Sharon was glad that her dad was staying close by there was no way she was going to be able to process all of this well. Right now she wanted to run and hide. Did she want to explain everything? No, she was going against every federal regulation regarding her relocation. It was risking her life. Though she knew her dad would have her back if things went South and he turned out to be no better than the federal marshal who sold her out. Sharon was scared to trust men, scared to trust feds, and then there was Thomas. “Thomas…” She choked as she coughed a bit, trying to catch her breathe. “Remember when I told you, that I’m scared to trust federal agents?” She’d mentioned it early in their relationships, she’d never hidden her feelings or views on things. Only the information marked classified in a file somewhere. “You had to get me off that boat… because the marshals who relocated me sold me out.” She bit her lip. There was so much information about this and she wasn’t trying to hide anything; but his body language. She didn’t blame him. “Marilyn Palmazio. The story made national headlines. They weren’t even sure they could move me anywhere and keep me safe. The marshals didn’t trust me. I’ve never done anything; but I can understand not trusting me. But I’ve never lied to you Thomas. Never.” She’d flat out told him there was stuff in her life that was hidden that she couldn’t tell him. Now she was, and she was risking her life to do it. When Thomas went silent, Sharon looked like she was going to panic. She was searching out her dad, right now she was on the verge of panic. What if Thomas didn’t believe her now, or worse didn’t trust her? She could feel the worst trying to break at her through the silence between them. “I’ve been trying to clean it up since I was 17 and found out the truth. Trying to clean it up without getting myself killed. Now you are in danger and I can’t handle that. I can’t watch my mistakes get you shot. I can’t.” She explained after the silence broke. When he mentioned doing things the right way she nodded. She wanted nothing more than to keep Thomas out of this. But it was far too late for that. Sharon chastised herself for it. Then he took her words incorrectly. “I meant in a legal sense Thomas. This information can get me killed. You don’t know who Marilyn is, if anyone asks you Victoria died on that boat. You understand that? I’m the same person I have always been. Getting here.. Getting my life together. I can’t erase it all again.” She didn’t say it outloud that she needed to know she could trust him, but she was going to have to blindly trust him now. “I trust you with this.”What was she thinking? What if he didn’t trust her because of her stepfather? When Thomas stepped away, Sharon stumbled back towards Hank. She had her arms around her dad in an instant. She heard him saying something about giving Thomas a minute to process things. She could understand that, even Sharon had to process this and she had lived it. “I never stood up for or believed in the way I was raised. The moment I knew what Galacio was up to, I was running to Chicago to Hank. I wanted to stay. I couldn’t for my safety, for his, for my mom.” She bit her lip. “Galacio found out the truth and had my mother killed. I let them make me a CI with the CPD because I just wanted out. It’s complicated but it’s my life. It’s why I have so many trust issues.” She was talking to Thomas but she was on Hank’s shoulder trying to keep from crying her heart out. If she lost Thomas over this.. She knew things were going to go South fast. “I just want to go get information, Thomas. Information I know that I can get from certain people.” Scott already knew who she was, going face to face with him last time had been behind bars, but she knew Scott was no Mark. Scott didn’t know how much she knew or didn’t know. “It’s not undercover in all technically. They already know I am still alive.” She tried to explain. When he called her insane she just closed her eyes and took the line of questioning. If they were going to get into a battle of who was wearing who down, then she could usually win. This time was different, she was the one too close to this, too emotionally spent after a decade and a half of fighting to stay out of things. Hearing Thomas explain where he was coming from she could hear the whole walking away from their relationship conversation any moment. Sharon would be upset but she wouldn’t blame him. She didn’t let go of Hank as she heard Thomas explain that she didn’t get to handle this anymore. Sharon could hear the anger threatening behind his words and she was scared of it. Just like anytime Hank yelled or when Mark had berated her for something. It wasn’t Thomas’ fault and when she processed things she wasn’t going to hold it against him. Not worth the fight. Just let it go Sharon. When he kept at it with her not being able to lie and her UC skills in this instance not being good enough. She just bit her lip and could feel more of the anger seeping out in the lecture. Did she really expect not to get a lecture from a fed? This wasn’t CPD’s case and she knew Thomas had every authority to toss her off the case. Sometimes she knew when to keep her mouth shut. She’d probably already said too much. That’s when the promise to arrest her came. “Understood.” That was all she could think to respond with. She almost called him Agent Jackson again to differentiate that this was work related not personal but she’d not failed to notice how that had rubbed him the wrong way. She closed her eyes and hugged Hank tighter. When Thomas reached out to offer her a hug, Sharon wasn’t sure what to think. She opened her tear stained eyes and moved towards Thomas but not without checking with Hank to see if it was okay. Sharon was easily manipulated and still easily folded in the whole scheme of things. But she also knew Hank was kind of on the same side of things and against her being on this case. Sharon’s arms wrapped around Thomas debating if she should apologize. Then Hank mentioned calling in a favour and her body froze. “So these t…” she bit her lip. Not her case, she needed to shut up. So you are going to turn these two loose back on the street? Not good enough. Her anxiety was getting the best of her, she was still left wondering if Thomas was still going to walk away. She was shaking in his arms. This was why she never said anything. The emotional toll it took on her was heavy, and it was breaking her. Sharon ran her hand up and down Thomas’ arm trying to calm herself down. Her stomach was grumbling. “I’m sorry,” she apologized not sure if she needed to do so or because it was always her fault when someone got upset. MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Thomas was still struggling to figure everything out, he knew what she had said and what she had told him. There was no way she was lying because he could tell that but then it was the actual getting his own head around it that was taking some doing. Thomas merely nodded when she spoke about trusting federal agents, he knew she wasnt exactly best friend with them but then he had been the say way with women in general until Sharon had changed his mind on that. “The marshal did what?” He said a little loudly, that went against everything the FBI, the code of about every single cop.
You didnt sell people out at all and not Sharon as he wanted to go and rip the marshals head off for that. “You are that Marilyn? That... the Marilyn.” He said trying to reconcile Sharon with the Palmazio family, “No I know you’ve never lied to me Sharon, you just... I know why you kept this from me and I know how much it takes to tell a person that but I’m not the marshal. I wont sell you out for this.” He said wanting her to know that he wasnt about to say a word to anyone about it. She had told him to forget the conversation he couldnt but he sure as hell wasnt about to tell anyone about it.
Lies they were funny things, was an omission a lie or simply there for a reason. Had she told him six months ago would he still be there today? Who knew though the one thing he did know was that he had been shot over something he didnt have a clue about and that hurt not to be told until now. Was Sharon even Sharon anymore or did she change with telling him all of this, was there some kind of ‘and yes I also have a killing room installed in the back of my apartment for times like this’ phase coming. Thomas tried to find his words as he took a moment keeping to his silence. “17, all of that when you were 17.” He said as he shook his head, “It’s not your mistake, you’ve done a great thing and I’m not in danger. Now i know what I’m up against I can work it all out, besides how do you know it was your mistakes that got me shot, what if they just didnt like my face?” He asked trying to be funny but then there wasnt really anything funny about what was being said at all.
“I don’t know Marilyn, no idea who she is or Victoria no idea what she was about but Sharon. If you’re telling me that you are still you then I’ll believe it. You don’t have to erase anything again, you’re here and not going anywhere.” He said wanting her to trust him but then it wasnt exactly an easy thing between the two of them. “I know you trust me with it and I’m happy you do. I’m not going to hurt you with it Sharon, besides I already forgot remember. Thanks for trusting me with it.” He said knowing that he wouldnt say a work of it to anyone.
-----------
Hank tried not to listen to the two of them but when he was trying to listen out for his daughters best interests it was tough not to. He could hear Thomas had gone silent, all he needed was one reason to shoot the guy above and beyond dating his daughter and he would do it. Hank was glad to hear the man seemed to be saying he could be trusted but then how many people had said that over the years only to turn out not to be.
When Sharon stumbled back toward him he hugged Sharon tightly, it was tough trying to do what was best for Sharon and also route for a fed to prove him wrong for years of horrid judgements against the FBI. Still he waited and listened to what Thomas had to say though so far he seemed to be taking it a lot better than he thought the guy would. He was still in the building and hadn’t completely freaked out just yet.
-------------------
Thomas nodded, it certainly did explain a lot of her trust issues and he understood that. He had been led down a few paths of his own by believing in other people and then Chicago was supposed to be his second chance or fresh start. “You know I have my issues too, I’m sorry about your mother I didnt know he had done that.” Thomas said, he had done most of his work away from New York and now he was in Chicago he hadn’t been placed inside a Mafia, it was too long a con for his pencil pushers to trust him though that stung enough.
“Information that could get you killed, no. I’m not letting you do this Sharon. What if something happened to you, what would your dad do?” He asked deciding to go for Hank first, “What would I do, do you think I’d just let that happen, no it’s too risky. It’s just not going to happen.” Thomas knew that calling her insane was wrong but then what other word was there to explain what she wanted to do. Go talk to the people who wanted to shoot her?
Walking away hadn’t even crossed his mind, it was more getting to know the person he loved and figuring them out all over again at least for the time being that was. Thomas knew why he was angry, how could she even think of putting herself in that position again. After everything that had happened to her and she just wanted to go back to it again. No he wasnt having that at all.
It wasnt until he heard her say one word that he knew things weren’t right. He didnt know what he expected her to say but ‘understood’ was official to him. Yes sir no sir and that wasnt what he was getting at, he was scared to death of losing her. He had stepped in front of bullet for her and she just wanted to throw that away to go back. ------------
Hank wondered when they would actually understand each other though he just held onto Sharon as he felt her hug him tighter. At least the guy hadn’t walked away he thought, it showed at least some sense in the man and Hank wasnt about to let Sharon do anything about it either. It was one thing to grab a guy by the collar and entirely another to go back into the mafia she had fought so hard to get out from. Seeing Thomas offer her a hug Hank nodded as he smiled, well at least that seemed positive in a sense he thought. It wasnt exactly great but then Hank wasnt sure what he expected Thomas to do in the situation. If for any moment Hank thought that Sharon was being manipulated he wouldnt have let anything happen to her. Erin, Erin and Sharon were his world and that extended to all family so if thought anything was off, then he wasnt about to let that happen.
-----------
Thomas couldnt have been happier when she wrapped her arms around him. All he wanted to do was hold her and keep her safe as he wished he could have found her sooner, helped her in some way more than getting her off the boat. Hearing her words Thomas glanced at Hank. “No, those guys are staying put. I’ll find a way.” Hank said knowing he wasnt about to let a shooter go, he was daring but not entirely stupid because Debra she would likely kill him for it.
Thomas could feel her shaking as he just held her there running a hand over her back as he hugged her tightly. When he heard her stomach grumbling he smiled. “Don’t be sorry, there’s nothing to be sorry for.” He said shaking his head as he kissed the top of her head lightly, “I’m sorry for raising my voice I just don’t want to lose you Sharon. You are my world here and even if you had to move again I’d do with you. I just want you to be happy and safe and you’re not safe if you go back to that. I’d get shot all over again if it meant that you are safe.”
There was no second thought in that at all, he would take any amount of bullets for Sharon because he loved her. “I brought lunch, thought we could eat but then...” He said, yes then he walked in on something and now they were there. “Look at me Sharon, I love you and I promise I’m not going anywhere unless it’s with you. Mafia or no mafia, it doesn’t matter to me as long as you are you.” He said knowing that to be true, it didnt matter about his job or anything else. As long as she was happy he was happy.

When Thomas got a little loud, she cringed. Perhaps she needed to take a break. “He got me to trust him and then…” She’d been naive then and more here she was in a relationship with another federal agent. No, Sharon really didn’t see Thomas in that light at all. The only reason she’d even used titles was to differentiate between personal and professional. What else was she supposed to call him? That was his title. Sharon had been upfront about her past without disclosing but now he knew the truth, and she could only hope he wouldn’t break her trust with it. Sharon bit at her lip. “I never asked for that life, or anything that followed it. I don’t hide it because I want to, or because I am afraid of being judged. I don’t say anything so I can just be me. The weight it carries… I can’t even explain. Feeling like one minute you are you and the next minute someone else.” When she’d said she was tired of name changes she’d meant it. Maybe now he would understand a bit better. “At this point, Whatever happens, happens. I am sick of running from this.” Though she knew that if Thomas did sell her out like Jason had then Hank would shoot him. That is, if Sharon didn’t do the shooting herself. Her relationship with Thomas had been through about every bump and rock in the road. It wasn’t that Sharon didn’t know she’d hurt him because she knew she had; but he was refusing to take an apology. She didn’t really know how to handle that. This was partially her fault, she’d turned on the mafia. Maybe it hadn’t been intentional but she’d kept things from him to stay safe. Things she could be in trouble for telling him. “You asked me once why I never took the job in Atlanta. I told you because everything I had built was here. It was offered to me as a way out of this whole mess.” She wasn’t going to leave Thomas and Hank here holding up a huge mess she’d practically created, no way in hell. Sharon bit at her lip. He had not just said those words in the same sentence. She hated being commended for her actions. Not only that he’d just said he wasn’t in danger when he’d been shot TWICE because of this. His attempt to be funny ordinarily she might have laughed but not in a situation like this. She’d only just gotten over the guilt of firing her own weapon at him. As much as he had told her to stop being guilty over it… it was always there. She’d take this on herself too, regardless of what anyone told her. Then again… sometimes she questioned her dad’s decision making skills in his younger years. Sometimes she wanted to grab him by the shoulders and asked him what possessed him to sleep the wife of a mafia don. “What’s a name really? I doesn’t define a person. It’s just an identifier to get them to turn their heads and point someone out in a crowd. I’m not saying I haven’t changed over the years and through my experiences, but I’ve always been the same person.” With Hank there she knew Thomas was going to be held to his promise. Sharon knew it wouldn’t be her that he would be worried about. The redhead already knew her dad would stop at nothing to keep her safe; he’d killed for Justin then what would he do for her? Not that she wanted Hank to do such a thing but she’d hardly be able to stop him if he made up his mind. Right now the support from her dad was as needed as much as knowing that Thomas wasn’t walking away. They’d been discussing a wedding just a few days ago and now she wasn’t so sure if that even still stood between them. Sharon tried to bury her head as far into Hank as humanly possible. This hurt and she just wanted to go home and crawl in a hole. “You wouldn’t know. NYPD ruled her death a suicide. That couldn’t be farther from the truth.” Sharon shook her head. “There is a whole can of worms to dig through with why I did what I did. None of it anything I want to relive again.” She took a few breaths still trying to calm herself down on Hank’s shoulder. Hoping that any moment she wasn’t going to be picking up the pieces any minute. Then there was Thomas putting his foot down and not letting her go after those involved. “Thomas…” She was going to argue the point, “... you are asking me to back off of the people who shot you. Newsflash, I’m not going to let it go. Put yourself in my position; what if I had been shot. Can you honestly sit here and tell me that you would be able to walk away?” She lifted her head. “I could ask you the same question,” her eyes drifted over Hank’s face. She already knew the answer to the question turned on her dad. He’d rip apart Chicago for her, and probably two-thirds of New York too. “Risky? This coming from someone who risks their life everyday walking out the door. I’m not saying it comes without a risk, but I hardly stay at home knitting bonnets.” She moved her eyes to the ground. “Who is supposed to look after the both of you?” Sure there were the Erin’s to look after Hank but with Thomas if there wasn’t Sharon was there anyone? She’d resolved herself to losing this battle. Sharon knew she was outnumbered. She’d be hard pressed to get Thomas to agree and she knew Hank was very much on the same side of the fence. Why was it okay for them to go out and get revenge but the moment she tried she was shut down? Thomas and Hank were everything to her, and shooting one of them? What kind of person would she be if she didn’t fight against them on this. Hearing the men were not going to get out of it made her feel a little better. Though Sharon would be happier to see them lying in the morgue than in lock up or going up in front of some attorney. Sharon settled or at least as much as she was going to right now on Thomas’ shoulder. She just wished that for one moment the guys could see things through her eyes. When it came down to it, these two were all she had. Sure the Erins were there; but she hardly got along with her “sister” and lawyer Erin would just be arguing the same as Hank and Thomas, all the reasons her attitude could get the case thrown out. Sharon lifted her head to look Thomas in the eyes. He’d asked her to do so and she felt like it was the respectful thing to do. Sharon wanted it to go away but now that the Palmazio mafia was alive and well in Chicago, it put her on edge. Sharon stood on her tip toes and laid her head on Thomas’ shoulder. “I really do have a mountain of work to do.” She was hungry but she didn’t have much of an appetite anymore. Going home wasn’t an option; she already messed up royally for the day. MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Thomas didnt want Sharon to cringe and to see her do that he tried to be calm about everything but then any fed that abused their power wasnt any good. He took it personally because that was on his side of the fence, not PD or state this was a federal agent that had done that to her. He partly wanted to tell her to trust no one but then what kind of a life was that going to be? “It’s okay, we all trust people we shouldn’t. It’s just... a marshal should know better.” Thomas explained trying not to over react about it but then that could have ended very badly for her.
“I cant even begin to imagine what that is like Sharon but you’re you now, you don’t have to pretend anymore and now I know. You can tell me things, you don’t have to be anyone else but yourself because you are the person I want to get to know better.” He said knowing that it was tough to have to change things and the name change he understood that a lot better now as he had no issue in changing his own. He was used to it given what he did, one day he was Thomas, the next Naill and by Friday he had been Sean, Bruce and Keith too.
Thomas nodded when she said she was sick of running from it, “You don’t have to run anymore, Hank will protect you and so will I. There’s no use in running and there’s nothing to be afraid of. You’re better protected in Chicago than anywhere else.” Thomas knew in a heart beat he would move wherever in the world she wanted to go without a second thought. If she needed to go elsewhere then he would go with her but Chicago was the one place that she had family and friends and a life that could at least be stable.
When it came down to apologies he didnt taken them well, to him there was nothing to apologise for. She did what she had to do to keep herself safe, there wasnt anything more that he would rather have her do. Yes it hurt not to know but then if it meant she was safe then it was all worth it. “You had a way out?” He said having felt guilty for her staying there, she had a great opportunity in Atlanta even if it was a way to get out of everything. “You didnt take it, are you sure about that? If it’s whats best for you Sharon dont think of anyone else.” He said not wanting her to leave and yes he was extremely happy that she had stayed.
Thomas tried to wait for the laugh but it wasnt coming, after everything that had happened he didnt blame her for the first time he had gotten shot. He was the one who had blundered into things and if a strange guy tried to haul anyone off a boat then it was likely he was going to get shot. This second time, technically he could have dodged the bullet but then Sharon would have been hurt instead and that wasnt ever going to happen to her so it made sense for him to step in the way. Both times he had choices as to what he could do.
Trying to get his head around Hank and a Mafia Don’s wife, yeah that made little sense unless Hank had serious issues which given what he knew already. Maybe that was just the issue. Then again without that there wouldnt be Sharon and that didnt even bare thinking about. “Same person, then this changes nothing Sharon unless you want me to call you another name? Whichever you’re comfortable with and now that you’ve told me. If you want me to go then just say the words. I love you no matter what your name is but I understand if you want me to leave.” Thomas said knowing that it could change a person’s outlook once the truth was told.
A wedding had been talked about and now Thomas didnt have a clue, sure he had yet to officially propose but then again they had been talking about a wedding. “It’s okay no one is asking you to relive it. It’s why we’re not letting you go back, it’s not safe and not anything that you want to go back to or relive. It isn’t worth the cost.” Thomas said knowing he didnt want to lose her to the mafia and not be able to get her back from it. He knew there was never any guarantees but then again the best guarantee was to not let her do this and keep her safe.
Asking him what he would do in her position he knew there was no way he was going back down off it. He could feel himself pale at the thought of Sharon being shot, the very thing he had tried to prevent that day. “You have to let it go Sharon, please for everyone’s sake. I’m asking you as Thomas, and the agent please just let this go. It’s not worth your life for this.” He said shaking his head, “I couldnt let it go if it was you but it’s not you and you’re just putting yourself into this mess again for no reason. What if something did happen, I couldnt live with the fact that it was because of me and then what about Hank? What would he do?”
Thomas knew a little of what the man might do and none of that was good for the city of Chicago. “It’s because it’s our job, we’re not throwing ourselves into the lions den without any help with targets on our backs. They know you, they are targeting you but you’d just want to hand yourself over to them and accomplish what?” He said trying not to get mad about it but he couldnt help it. Thomas hadn’t ever thought a question could hurt as much as ‘who is supposed to look after the both of you’ could. Thomas was aware that there wasnt anyone in particular for him other than Sharon. “That’s why we need you Sharon, promise me you’ll let it go.” Thomas asked trying not to plead with her but then if he had to he would.
Thomas gazed at her when she lifted her head he tried his best to smile though he knew that the entire day had taken a turn. “Work can wait, lunch cant.” He said as he motioned to the paper bag, “I got it from your favourite Italian place.” He hoped that would make a difference but he wasnt entirely sure about that one. “Cant you call in sick and we can just go home? Or can I stay and help out? Just five minutes for lunch Sharon and we can talk about anything.” He said as he leaned down to kiss her cheek for a moment.
Hank just rolled his eyes at the calling in sick comment as he huffed slightly. "Get a room." He stated as he turned away from the two of them for a moment still not sure if he wanted to shoot Thomas as the feeling hadnt really left, just now he didnt have a reason or at least a valid one for shooting the man.

Sharon realized she had just cringed at Thomas when she knew he wasn’t angry at her. “I’m sorry Thomas… you’re angry. I know that wasn’t directed at me; I just reacted.” When in doubt apologize. It was a habit and it wasn’t going away anytime soon. Sharon knew all too well about trusting people she shouldn’t trust. That’s why she was so distrusting in the first place. Thomas and Hank were really big exceptions to that and her partner and her were working out the kinks along the way. Sharon bit her lip to refrain from snapping at out him. I have never pretended to be anyone I wasn’t. It hurt, but she wasn't going to say what she was thinking. Adding fuel to the fire would not ease things. They changed her name and changed her life; but she never pretended to be someone she wasn't. Sharon stole a glance at Hank so she could avoid Thomas’ line of sight. Stupid poker face. She swallowed and closed her eyes. Count to three Sharon it’s gonna be okay. Sharon talked to herself more than people realized when things got difficult. This was not some undercover operation where she was pretending. This was the difference between living and dying. Sharon moved a step back from Thomas. This was her trust not his; so lashing out at him would do no good. They were going to have to get past this. Sharon wasn’t going to let the comment change things. They’d come too far and fought so hard to get where they were. Sharon knew no matter what happened, that she would always be running. Just staying in Chicago was better; she had people who had her back. Family who cared. Sharon just nodded in agreement. The discussion wasn’t worth it. It was better to just agree right now. When he questioned her about Atlanta she let the question unanswered. It had never really been a way out, she’d have had to start all over again and it would have been selfish to go. Not to mention, she had people here who looked out for her. Atlanta would have been… miserable. She wasn’t sure she would have been able to handle things over again. “I can’t take starting over again. I don’t trust myself to come out the other side.” She was being honest. Hank and Thomas didn’t need news like that. “My dad named me Sharon.” There was small smile towards Hank, but she wanted to snap at Thomas. It was mostly the truth, Hank had called her Cher. Hank had been there and given his input because she’d asked for it. To her, that made things a little easier, knowing she’d might have been born with her name. She loved her name and now Thomas was trying to confuse her? No… She was not having that. When Thomas mentioned leaving she looked like she was about to break. “I’m not the one who gets to make the decision. You have the truth. What you do with it, that’s on you.” Sharon dropped more tears. “I’m not walking away Thomas; that isn’t what this is about.” Eyes darted towards Hank again. Sharon didn’t bother to hide the tears streaming down her face. Both of the men in the room could see right through her facial expressions. Right now all Sharon wanted was to go crawl under Hank’s desk and not come out. Her trust in men was shaky at best and she’d never lied to Thomas. She’d told him there was something she couldn’t tell him. The only reason he knew now was because it was his life at risk now too. It was only fair and it was at the danger of her own life. If Thomas walked away, she couldn’t handle that. “I will always protect the people I love Thomas!” She fired off when he said she had to let it go. “You can’t ask me to give that up. I’m not letting this go. What kind of person would I be if I let it go? I don’t let people down I care about. It’s that simple. I don’t have to go face to face to talk to those responsible for this.” She looked towards Hank. “It’s just a phone call Sergeant and you are going to make it anyway.” At least then her facial expressions couldn’t be read like a book. Letting this case go would be a bad idea on her part. She turned her eyes back to Thomas. “It’s a telephone call Thomas. That’s all.” Burner cells and many ways to hide her tracks and location. “Bullets don’t go through telephone wires.” She reasoned. Sharon took Thomas by the shoulders. “Don’t push me off of this.” She cared too much about the man in front of her. Sharon didn’t do things part of the way. “I wouldn’t suggest talking, if I thought it would end up in me not coming home.” Hank hadn’t specified that feds were off limits when it came down to Sharon. Well there were few feds that were and unless Thomas jumped ship to the CPD, she knew he was going to be the painted target, because it would get to her. She wasn’t sure it would work; but it was worth a shot. Scott Cooper might be a crooked asshole; but she knew he had a soft spot. If he didn’t; he would have already put a bullet in her head for Mark’s death. Sharon would make bets on that. Sharon knew she had to eat. When he mentioned getting it from the Italian place she loved she smiled. That place wasn’t exactly around the corner. He’d gone out of his way. Finding words she just came out and said what she was thinking. “Are we okay Thomas?” Sharon needed to know. Yes, she was asking for an honest response with Hank standing right behind her. Thomas knew from the beginning that trusting people was difficult for Sharon, even her flinch he was used to but it didnt change the fact it hurt or the fact he knew he had caused it or given her enough concern to flinch. “It’s okay, you dont need to be sorry at all. I’m sorry for being angry but it’s not at you Sharon, never at you.” He said knowing that he couldnt ever be angry with her no matter what was going on in life. None of this was her fault at all he just didnt know exactly what to think of everything.
Hank tried to nod reassuringly to Sharon about what was going on, it wasnt her fault any of this at all and Thomas didnt need to know what was going on. It wasnt like right now the man needed to know any of it but Hank wasnt going to go against what Sharon wanted to do. He knew he would sooner add another murder to his list if Thomas stepped out of line so really that was the back up plan, stuff the feds and that meant throwing Debra to the wolves too but then it was for family and keeping his daughter safe.
Thomas felt like he was hearing about a life that was lived separate and parallel to the one they had already. Two different people, two sides of a coin in one person though he should have been used to that given his work but then he could shrug that off and place it in a box at the end of the case. There was always an end to it, for Sharon he didnt see the end to any of it. “I dont want you to start over Sharon, I want you to be here where you’re safe and the people who love you can watch out for you.” He said, he honestly would have followed her anywhere but he knew that moving again and again took its toll on anyone.
Hank couldnt help but grin when he heard Sharon say he had named her, well not exactly but then again he was all for calling her Cher so Sharon was a more normal option. Unless he would have stuck with Cher Voight for the rest of her life though Hank wasnt exactly against it. Sharon had asked for his thoughts on it and well the rest was history even if it was about thirty some years too late to do much about it.
Thomas just nodded, “Then you’re Sharon.” He said not sure if he needed to forget the other two names he knew but then Sharon was the name that went with the person he loved more than anything else. Listening to Sharon Thomas had given her the easiest out of everything he knew how to and she still said she wasnt walking away. He was half relieve and annoyed with himself as he saw the tears streaming down her face again. “I’m not going anywhere either, I’m staying right here with you Sharon. I’m not going to do anything with it, I didnt even hear it.” He said knowing it was a lie but then for her safety Thomas figured he was just as well to forget what he had heard.
He wished he could do more not to upset her but it seemed like it was all he could do when he listened again as she fired off. “I will do that too but not at the risk of your life Sharon.” He stated knowing he would throw her off the case in a heart beat if it meant she was safe. “I’m not asking you to let it go, I’m begging you to Sharon. Trust me on this, don’t get involved more than you are. You’re not letting me down or anyone down I want you to be safe and this case isn’t how we do that.” IT didnt matter to him if it was a phone call or a face to face meeting it was still too much of a risk.
Hank stared at Sharon as he shook his head at her. “Dont make me agree more with a fed than you Cher but it’s a phone call that can blow up your life. As a Sergeant its too much of a risk and as your father it’s a like hell this is happening. I can make that call but not you.” Hank knew he was being a hard ass about it but then if he put his neck on the line that was fine but Sharon, no if it went badly then at least he could fix his own mess but Sharon he couldnt forgive himself for that.
Thomas shook his head at her, “A telephone call where bullets can be sent to, it’s not happening Sharon you’re too close to this. You’ve said it yourself, you dont want to move anymore and I’m not having you put in that position for me or for a case. Technology can always be beaten, no.” Thomas stated as he nodded, “I dont want to push you off this Sharon but you’re not giving me much of a choice here at all. It’s not safe, Hank said he would do it so I’m not moving on that either.” Thomas wasnt exactly thrilled that Hank was taking the risk either for the simple fact that he needed to be there for Sharon too.
“Yeah well talking or no talking I dont want you taking that risk, my case, my rules.” He said as he glanced at Hank seeing nothing from the man but a slightly bitter nod. Thomas hadn’t a clue about the truce but whatever it was Hank wanted to try he was willing to let the man try it if it meant that Sharon would be safe. No matter how many bullets or hospital visits that took it was worth every second of it. Thomas hadn’t expected to hear that question as he gazed at her, he knew Hank was there and sure it felt like the man was about breathing down his neck but what wasnt there to be okay about beyond the obvious. It was a lot to take in and a lot of things made more sense now than they had done though it wasnt Sharon’s fault any of it. “We’re okay Sharon, more than okay. Thanks for letting me into this, I know it wasnt easy to do.” He said smiling as best he could as he took a few steps toward her to hug her. It was his more than honest response. “I love you and that’s all that matters to me. All I want is you and for you to be safe because if you still want to, we’re getting married right?” He asked her wondering if that was still the case or if that had taken a nose dive given what he had been told.

Sharon would even flinch when her dad yelled or any male for that matter. It didn’t matter if it was in anger or simply because they were speaking up to get their voice across the room. When he apologized she tried not to use ‘I know’ because it seemed like it would be enough to make up for flinching from him. ‘It’s alright’ would only start a round of ‘It’s not alright’ so she avoided that like the plague. “You have every right to be angry about all of this.” Whether it was at her or not wasn’t the point. Sharon was glad that her dad didn’t go round and round with her about letting all of this out. Thomas had been shot because of this, because of her, and because of the past she had been given. She knew it wasn’t something she could keep any longer, it was hard enough keeping it and feeling like she’d been lying but then she reminded herself she had never lied about it. She’d just voluntarily told him there was omitted information that would mean her life if she told. She risked that now, and she knew she it. But then again she fully trusted the two men in the room with her. Sharon wasn’t a different person and it wasn’t a life of someone who lead leading a double life. Though she’d watched her life crumble and have to be returned all over again. Sharon Voight had a family; Victoria never had that. At least not legally on paper anywhere. It was a change and not one that had some so easily. Explaining it to anyone was just as difficult as it was to listen to and right now Sharon wanted to run to where she felt the safest and that was to her dad because he already understood all of this. He’d already processed it. “I don’t intend to go anywhere Thomas.” That much was a fact. She knew she was safe here in Chicago. It was much different from the life she’d started here in Chicago that had been just her and the dog. Sharon went by Cher because of Hank. She knew that hadn’t been a mistake on Debra’s part at the time. And in a way, it made her feel like she had a normal family. She had a name that meant something to her, it wasn’t just something someone called to get her attention. Something Thomas hadn’t grasped onto just yet and she’d found it rather insulting when he’d not been able to decide on what to call her. Why should it be any different than it was now? Why was he making this so confusing, she’d never been anyone else but herself. Let it go Cher it’s not worth the battle. She was glad in a way that her dad was letting her get this out of her system without making things more difficult, but she also kept darting her eyes too him needing advice but not knowing what she wanted to say. But she also knew it was a thin line between that and interfering with her relationship too. Sharon didn’t want an out in her relationship. But now she was second guessing if he was trying to get her to make this sound like a break up was her idea, so as not to piss of Hank. Sharon was clueless. Relationships had always gone badly for her, someone walking away and betraying her. She could almost hear the words walking away when he said he wasn’t going anywhere. It confused her and the confusion wrote itself into her facial expressions. Oh the smart ass remark waiting to come out ‘You are allowed to protect me but I am not allowed to protect you’ was a really bad idea. Don’t say it. Don’t say it, Sharon. Though when he said something about how this case wasn’t how she accomplished things, she could swear he had been spending too much time with her father. To hell she was going to listen. No one touched her family and didn’t go through her. If she had to get her partner to have her back then so be it. At least she was figuring out who stood where. Neither of them understood. If they understood, they missed the point that both of them would be doing exactly the same thing as her. And the difference should matter why? She was tired of people having to stick their necks out for her, what was so wrong with handling things? Oh right, she was a female and needed to be protected. When her dad agreed with Thomas she wasn’t sure how to handle that. All she could do was nod, trying to fight both of them… it was a losing battle. She’d do this her way, not that she would tell them that, nor would she let them find out. Then don’t push me of it she thought to herself. She knew more about this mess than either of them did. Sharon had more intelligence on this criminal group than anyone else standing here. Sure, her dad had hooks but Sharon knew every relative and a good few of their contacts for a large part. Some of the newer ones not so much. Cooper she was less familiar with; but she could dig in far deeper holes than either of the two men in the room could. Federal agents were a pain in the ass. Cue yet another smart ass comment that didn’t need to be said to filter through her thoughts. You feds think you have it all figured out, I’ve been at this ‘case’ for a decade and a half, let’s just decide this is too risky fifteen years into this whole clusterfuck. Sharon was tired of the bullets and she knew the other side had to be too. She’d overheard part of the truce and been able to put the rest together. Sharon didn’t want to be a bargaining chip that afforded some law enforcement protection and not others. That hadn’t been her call to make. Sharon felt like crying until she just couldn’t cry anymore. The two wouldn’t let her do anything about it, she’d caused a huge mess, it had gotten people shot and now she was expected to sit on the sidelines and do what? Knit cute little bonnets for both the guys who were acting like overprotective babies? Though she’d be fighting for them to stay out of it too, so she should be cutting them some slack but in this case she was going to play the hypocrite. ‘Wasn’t easy’ was the understatement of the year. It risked her life and she’d done that with her dad standing right there. She figured she’d likely hear a lecture later after this whole fight she was putting up about the case in general. Right now she didn’t have time for those. Sharon just nodded to his statement and hugged him in return. She was torn between wanting to go home and finding her own way around this case. She’d talk to her partner in the morning. Maybe he would have some better ideas than her on this whole thing. Right now she was hungry, upset, and not ready to give up fighting at this case. Though in appearance she was worn out, though with closed eyes she knew the two couldn’t see the fight still left in her. She was going to end this. MADE BY VEL OF GS AND ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0
