It was 9am, Salome had already been at the Firehouse since 7am having given up on sleep at 4am and decided to go for a run, getting back home she had dressed before grabbing her gear and heading to the firehouse. She'd been offered the chance to start her first day back at a reasonable time to help her get settled back in and she had taken it but still arrived at 7am - but she'd spent a good portion of an hour in the washroom crying in the shower before freshening up and getting into her gear.
She'd pulled her curly hair up into a tight ponytail and plaited it so that it stayed out the way, around her neck she wore a pendant tucked safely under her FD shirt.
The night had been awful, she'd gone to bed at 8pm after a full day of training and exercising - but her parents had pointed out she was venting, avoiding allowing herself to focus on what was coming - it was true, Sal couldn't bear to face it, until exhaustion had taken over and she'd agreed to go sleep.
But after an hour or so she'd moved from her room to her brother's, over the weeks she'd spent a lot of time there snuggled up with him - mostly to help keep him calm when he woke up in agony - sometimes when she'd had a rough night she'd go hug him and fall asleep next to him and he would never wake her.
So, she'd spent time afterwards just sitting or sleeping in his room - no one able to touch anything, it was too painful.
She slept but then at midnight she'd been woken up by a nightmare and after another few hours tossing and turning she'd given up and got up.
She was now sat at the far end of the table with a steaming mug of coffee and staring at nothing in particular as she pondered.
She'd had a few weeks off work after her brother passed away, those weeks had been rough - on her family, and the prospect of working again was hard, but she'd promised her brother three things - Live, Laugh and Love. She wasn't going to give up.
However, she'd been transferred rather than return to the original squad she'd been in, not that she minded - it meant really that less people knew her and thus didn't really know what had happened.

Matt was at the firehouse at just before 6. Their shift started at 6 but the new transfers for whatever reason they always sent them after shift started and was moving for an hour. Salome wasn't late by any stretch. Sighing he had a coffee in his hand as he came out of his office. Through the bunks and into the kitchen/lounge area. "Harris where is Severide" he nailed Stephanie with a look as he walked by.
"How am I supposed to know? I'm not his keeper." She rolled her eyes. Matt was looking for him for something he needed to give to him before he realized that Severide was off today. Oh right. His wife had dragged him to that doctor's appointment. That left he had no idea who as acting Lieutenant of Squad today.
That's when he looked up from his paperwork just in time to avoid running into the back of the chair Salome was sitting in. Setting his own coffee down he sat at the table where Truck took over. They still for whatever reason stayed divided into tables. Squad usually kept to themselves outside in the bay. "Morning" he offered politely. She looked troubled so he decided morning would suffice, lest he upset her.

"Harris where is Severide" "How am I supposed to know? I'm not his keeper."
Hearing voices Salome barely turned to see who it was, after a moment she noticed someone sit at the table she was at "Morning" realising the greeting was for her she rubbed at her eyes and blinked a few times "Morning" she managed to reply before she saw who it was "Sir" she added waking up completely, she'd done a bit of research before coming here so she generally knew who was important to know. She was young, a bit messed up but she wasn't stupid, wake up Sal before you look like a fool, like you did at the museum...

Being that it was her first day at 51 Chloe was told to report for duty at 7am, she walked through the doors at least 15 minutes early and had spent a good portion of that 15 minutes in the chief's office saying good morning and getting her orders for the day. After exiting the chief's office and placing her things in her locker she walked quietly into the kitchen area. Chloe grabbed herself a cup of coffee loaded it with cream and sugar and leaned back against the counter to observe everyone.

Matt took notice of the new faces. The one who greeted him in return was on Truck, at least according to the polo she had on. The other new girl must be the paramedic they had incoming. Something about house 23 gripping they wanted their paramedics back or something. Matt as much as he was involved in the politics of things tried to stay out of certain battles and that was most definitely NOT one that he wanted to choose.
Matt pushed a chair out for the paramedic watching the two of them and offered her a seat, even if it was unspoken. He gave Salome. "You can drop the sir. It's Lieutenant or Casey" he pointed out. Gabby called him Matt but that was different, that was his wife and it wasn't done at work. Eventually others called him Matt too from time to time but usually those were those closest to him.

Chloe silently took the seat offered by...had he said Casey? "Thanks Lieutenant....I'm Chloe Nunn.. new PIC...first day." She looked at Salome and nodded before returning to sipping her coffee in silence. Chloe had learned a long time ago that you can learn a lot about people by just watching them. Casey seemed like he was going to be pretty welcoming and she hoped the rest of the house wouldn't be too upset about her replacing the other Medics..heck she didn't even know their names. She had only been hired about a week ago and this was her first day on the job...she still didn't know who her partner for the day was going to be. Chief Boden had mentioned someone but Chloe had always been bad with names and between the stress of the day and her nervousness about meeting everyone she had forgotten who that was going to be.

Seeing the new girl she gave a nod in return then she looked to Casey as the man spoke "You can drop the sir. It's Lieutenant or Casey" "Yes Lieutenant" she replied simply, eventually she'd probably end up calling him whatever she ended up calling him but for now, she'd stick with the respectable name straightening up she leaned forward on the table with her elbows, crossing her arms over each other slightly "I'm Salome LeShane" she added. If she was emotional now it didn't show, once she had seen Casey she had snapped out of it fast, but inside she did feel a little nervous and cautious, but who wouldn't be? New place new people.

Chloe could sense the other girl's nervousness and smiled at her. "Nice to meet both of you. I'm really excited about being here, I heard a lot about 51 in orientation...but everyone has been really welcoming so far and..well..it makes things easier."
"So...do either of you have any suggestions on a place to live? The hotel I've been staying at since I got here is starting to get really expensive and I just had to make a tuition payment?"

If it was one thing Matt was tired of it was the turn around lately at 51. Sure they were all like family but it had taken them a while to get to that point. Matt was selective at who he let into his personal life but he always watched out for those at 51. Though they had their fair share of new and bad apples too. So there was that. He was still trying to figure out what to make of the girls.
"Anywhere in Chicago is expensive" at least anywhere safe. There were some sides of town that were not as pleasant that were 'affordable' to most of those not from Chicago. He looked towards LeShane. He could make out she was troubled but he really didn't want to pry. Though he made a mental note to keep an eye on her on calls.

Chloe wasn't sure what to make of the two that she had been conversing with, both seeming distant and lost in their own thoughts...I mean she knew anywhere in Chicago was going to be expensive, but she was tired of paying an arm and a leg for a hotel room. She wanted somewhere to call her own. "Ok, any recommendations on neighborhoods?...I'm meeting a realtor in the morning. Just want to make sure I don't end up in the wrong part of town or something."
Standing Chloe returns to the kitchen, and grabs an apple before returning to her seat at the table. She takes a bite of the apple and goes back to observing those around her.

"Nice to meet both of you. I'm really excited about being here, I heard a lot about 51 in orientation...but everyone has been really welcoming so far and..well..it makes things easier." “Nice to meet you too” Sal replied a small smile on her lips as she looked across at her, she hadn’t failed to see Matt look at her but didn’t think anything of it "So...do either of you have any suggestions on a place to live? The hotel I've been staying at since I got here is starting to get really expensive and I just had to make a tuition payment?" "Anywhere in Chicago is expensive" Sal nodded her agreement "Ok, any recommendations on neighborhoods?...I'm meeting a realtor in the morning. Just want to make sure I don't end up in the wrong part of town or something." Sal shrugged “I got a room, if you need” No she wasn’t offering her brother’s room - certainly not! But she did have a spare room up in the loft - a conversion that her father and brother had made after her dad retired "Just until you find something, I guess" Yes Salome LeShane was being brave and friendly - she couldn't afford to be the little mouse at the moment.

Matt remembered apartment hunting with Gabby and that had been a nightmare. Well at least there was just own requirements, though if he knew anything about women they were hard to please. So no he wasn't even dredging that up. "Just keep in mind if the price sounds too good to be true. Probably not the best part of town" he piped up. Chicago wasn't exactly a safe city in the first place, so there was that. Anyone asking to be 'safe' in Chicago might as well find another city.
They all had money stuff going on; there was a reason that he and Gabby split the rent on the apartment they had, but he wasn't about go spilling his personal information like that to the rest of the house. Just not a conversation that Matt was willing to have. He just listened as he heard Sal saying something about a spare room. Lots of the house stayed in the same apartments to double up on rent. There was Otis an Cruz who were room mates. He had Gabby living with him. For the longest time Kelly had a roommate; except now he had a wife. Regardless two incomes over one income in a house was much better any day of the week.

"Thanks for the advice," Chloe says looking at Matt, "I'm not even that picky, well I don't think I'm that picky...but I'm just having a hard time finding something that feels right."
Looking at Salome and smiling, "To be really honest... I'm scared of sharing a place. Being an only child I've never had to share even a room with anyone before, so if and when I ever get married I pity the man because I'm kinda set in my ways already. I'm pretty boring anyway, when I'm not here I spend most of my time either in class or studying. I like it quiet...no wild and crazy house parties for me. I've got too much riding on Med school to flunk out now, besides running back home just isn't an option. I do appreciate the offer, and may take you up temporarily...like a month at the most if I find something tomorrow. That'd give me some time to get the new place ready to move in. That is if the offer is still good."
