Amber was reading a book. She had finally managed a day off and she was using it to relax, for once. Amber was selective in who she spent her time with and most of that was simply her family. Though her biggest vice when something was bugging her was not talking about it. Right now she wanted to crawl in a hole, but her book was the biggest hole she could find at the moment.
Nosferatu had her attention. Yes, she was one of those horror novel people that somehow could stomach that stuff. Then again she had seen more gross things in the ER than some horror novels could come up with. No, she needed something more than fake blood to give her the creeps. Nope she was happy reading about things that made most people crawl out of their skin. @frankharold ✿

Frank sighed as he walked into the house. he hated having to tell people that they had cancer. And it was even worse when it was someone young. Though, to be honest, they were the ones that usually fought the hardest. Didn't make it any easier though. The patient he had had tonight had only been twenty. Breast cancer at that age. I can't even imagine how terrified she is, he thought to himself. At least his mother had been older when she had it.
He gave himself a mental shake and made his way further into the house. "Amber?" he asked. He just wanted to lay next to Amber and believe that everything would be all right. While walking a patient through a cancer diagnosis wasn't as physically draining as say open-heart surgery, it definitely took an emotional toll at times. And today had been one of those times..

Somewhere lost in books about Vampires she heard her name being called from the front door. Which was almost directly to her right. Then again she was nestled under a pile of blankets enjoying her book. "Five feet in front of you, under the soft fuzzy green thing" she stated as she closed her book setting it on the coffee table and sat up to stretch. On her days off she liked to be quiet and lazy, it was her way of hiding from the crazy days that were the ER. The mountain of green fuzzy blanket spilled down around her.
Amber knew every inflection of her husband's voice. Something wasn't right. Growing concerned as she thought on it a moment she glanced him over for the rest of his body language. She got up from her mountain of blanket and came over to greet him. "Rough day?" Okay so maybe it was a little bit forward but she always got concerned when he came home out of sorts. @frankharold ✿

Frank smiled as she answered that she was five feet in front of him underneath their green fuzzy blanket, though she didn't exactly word it that way. He then went to the couch where she was sitting and took a spot next to her. "So what are we reading tonight?" he queried, making himself comfortable. Most likely another one of her fantasy or supernatural novels he thought to himself.
When she asked him if he had had a rough day, he nodded. "I had to tell a twenty-year old girl that she had breast cancer," he responded. "I mean, it's hard enough when it's an older woman, but that young...." he trailed off and sighed. I can't even imagine what kind of hell she's going through, he thought to himself. He had declared oncology as his specialty because he wanted to help make things easier for people, but sometimes it wasn't easy at all.

Once she had stretched out, she was soon curling herself back up on the couch. Amber lightly kissed the side of his forehead as he got comfortable. The woman was a very cuddly individual and sometimes she was what some might consider clingy. Though hers was much more separation anxiety that had set in after the way her first marriage had fell apart. How Frank kept the patience for her, he had no idea. “Nosferatu” she stated simply before explaining in one word, “Vampires”.
When he started talking about his day at work she nodded. “We could go out and fire at haybales?” Well by that she meant go and enjoy the outdoors and archery. Sometimes it would get their mind off things. Mostly because Amber had a competitive streak in her when it came to archery. Though she would leave it up to him to decide if he wanted to partake in their usual distraction. @frankharold ✿

Frank smiled as Amber said that she was reading Nosferatu, referring to vampires. "Yeah, that was always more your thing than mine. You know me, literature snob," he stated, throwing her a smile so she'd know that he was teasing. He didn't want her thinking that he was making fun of her reading choices even though it wasn't really his type of book. No, he was more a fan of classic literature. But that's what made them work: their differences as well as their similarities.
He then laughed as she suggested firing at hay bales. "Sure," he agreed. Hey, why not? It actually sounded kinda fun. Sure it'd probably scare the crap out of people, but to be honest, he didn't care. It'd be something they could do together and that was all that he cared about. "Think we could set it up?" he asked. Did that even need setting up? Maybe they could just go out and do it? He wasn't sure to be honest.

When Frank called himself a literature snob she laughed. "Okay Herman Melville whatever you say". Amber also read classic literature; but she also liked a variety to her reading. There were only so many classic novels before you just needed something new to read. Amber know he was teasing but it was just as easy to tease him right back.
Amber got up wrapped her arms around Frank. "I think I may have left the bales out from earlier" with her day off she had been trying to keep herself occupied alone. Amber and alone didn't work well in the same sentence. That is many times why she retreated into the books, she could feel like she wasn't 'alone' in her head while Frank was at work. When they kids had been growing up it hadn't been as bad, but now that they were grown and out of the house she was facing more separation anxiety than in the past. For that she blamed her ex. @frankharold ✿

He then chuckled as she teased him, calling him Hermann Mellville. "It's a good book," he defended himself. And yes, he was quite aware that she read more than just novels about vampires. He just liked to tease her when she read those types of novels. What could he say? It was fun sometimes. Sometimes. Other times, not so much. But he'd probably get lucky and she wouldn't do anything. At least, he hoped she wouldn't. The last thing he wanted to do was upset her. She meant the world to him and he couldn't stand it when she was unhappy. No, he wanted her to be happy. That was all that he wanted.
When she noted that she had left some bales out from earlier, he shrugged. "We can take care of it later," he said, going to sit down next to her if she allowed it. Right now, he just wanted to be close to her. And yes, he was feeling slightly down. Tonight had been hard and really, all he wanted to do was snuggle next to Amber and forget about the world.

Oh she was going to do something about it alright. "Frank. Shush" she chastised but clearly she was teasing as she full on lip locked him. It would keep him quiet. They were inside their own house, she was allowed to kiss him as if she was a teenager in high school. Smiling through her kisses she spoke softly. "That's much better" she added lightly before plopping herself back on the couch.
She pulled him close and hugged him. She knew Frank was feeling down, anyone who could give that type of news and not be down was a monster in her book. "Sweetheart" she whispered as she climbed up laying overtop his shoulder. Oh she was totally going to take over his space on the couch. "Why don't we order take out tonight and sit and watch whatever you want." If this is what he wanted to do then she could oblige. She could out mother hen his babysitting skills anyday of the week. She had just laid her head down when there was a knock on the door. She did not want to get up. @frankharold ✿

Frank grinned as she shushed him and then kissed him, saying it was better now that he was quiet. "Whatever you wish, Darling," he said, giving her a kiss. Love this woman, he thought to himself. He wasn't ever going to stop loving her. She's amazing, he mused. How had he gotten so lucky? He just didn't understand what he had done to deserve her. He was an old man and she....well, no one could call her old.
His musings were cut off as she climbed on top of him, suggesting that they order in and watch t.v. "Sounds good," he agreed. "We haven't watched the Music Man in a while. I could use some mindless fluff," he he told her. And it was a good movie that they both enjoyed. So really, it was just what they needed. Maybe we could just do popcorn and a movie, he thought. No...he wanted real food. "What are you in the mood for?" he asked.

Frank seriously gave Amber the world, and she knew it. Smiling she broke their kiss at the second knock at the door. Well whoever it was, they weren't going away. "You want me to cook or do you want to go out sweetheart?" she questioned as she climbed off of him and picked up the DVD they had for Music Man and tossed it lightly on the couch. Heading for the door she opened it without looking to see who it was. Mostly because she was shorter than the little peek hole on the back of the door.
Once she opened the door she was faced with her ex husband. "Frank!" she called simply.
Marcus looked towards Amber and shook his head. "Amber, there is no need for that."
The man was trying to reason with her. "You aren't welcome here" she replied as she went to shut the door Marcus pushed it open with enough force to make Amber take a few steps back. Her eyes narrowing. "Frank!" her voice sounded more urgent, scared even.
"Amber we just need to talk" he pointed out as he pushed the door open the rest of the way and stepped inside.
"I have NOTHING to say to you" she replied as she grabbed the phone off the table.
"What are you doing?" He narrowed his eyes pushing the phone onto the floor so she couldn't call the police. "I came here to talk and your are trying to call the cops?" he wasn't the brightest crayon and he had just used your are. Though Amber wasn't thinking about that as she scrambled back out of the way, she didn't owe him any response. Marcus had never been violent with her, but she wasn't about to take chances. @frankharold ✿
