Chicago Police Requirements
Chicago Police Officer
Police Officers are the first ranking officers. They are dispatched radio assignments, conduct patrol, and respond to other emergencies as needed.
Chicago detectives are not considered ranking officers, but rather officers assigned to specialized units, e.g. violent crimes, robbery, gang and narcotics (NAGIS), Internal Affairs Division (IAD), Major Accident Investigation Section (MAIS), etc. (Unless they hold the rank of Sergeant or above.)
[li][/li] Must have 4 years experience as a Police Officer.
[li][/li] Have completed the relevent qualifications.
[li][/li] Specialise in a Unit for a further two / four years.
Chicago Field Training Officer
Field Training Officers wear one chevron over one rocker, with "FTO" in the center of the insignia, but are not considered ranking officers.
[li][/li] Must have Eight or more years on the job to train others.
[li][/li] Can only specialise in one unit, e.g violent crimes, robbery, gang unit.
Lieutenant / Sergeant
Ranking Officers for any unit.
[li][/li] Must have six years experiencce.
[li][/li] Have worked for specific units.
Chicago Police Captain
Captains are typically Executive Officers of Districts.
[li][/li] Ususally have years of experience but not always. (If making a captain please give a reason why they have either flown up the ranks or were given the job due to medical reasons, family connections etc.)
Chicago Police Commander
Commanders are typically in charge of a district.
Deputy Chief

Chicago Police Department Bureau's
Bureau of Administration
The Bureau of Administration coordinates and directs Department activities which relate to budget and fiscal control; personnel administration; data collection; and records management. The Bureau includes the Financial Group, Human Resources, Professional Counseling Services, Information Services Division, Record Services Division, and Chaplain’s Unit.
Bureau of Organized Crime
The Organized Crime Bureau of focuses on the dissoltuion of illegal narcotic, gang, and vice activities through both street-level enforcement efforts and long-term criminal investigations.
Bureau of Detectives
The Bureau of Detectives is responsible for the follow-up investigation of crime and the apprehension of offenders. The Detective Division is responsible for the investigation of felonies, selected misdemeanors, missing persons, and unidentified, deceased persons; the processing of juvenile offenders and the care of juveniles in need of protective services; the response to, and investigation of, bomb and arson incidents; and the collection and processing of forensic evidence.

The Bureau of Patrol is responsible for general field operations, including the protection of life and property, the apprehension of criminals, and the enforcement of state and municipal traffic laws.
