Steven followed them in as he kept a close eye on Kelle as he watched Matt move some debris out of the way as he turned toward her. “You okay?”"Yeah, I'm fine." Kelle grinned behind the mask of er SBA, although her eyes were focused on the floor, watching her step -- there was plenty to trip over, and she wasn't about to do that, she didn't want to distract from their task and become another victim. Inside, it was dim, and the smoke added to the lousy visibility, but beyond taking care where she stepped, she wasn't phased...they had the firefighters to guide them and look out for them, and she just wanted to get to the victims...and hopefully Stephanie wasn't trapped too badly so that they were going to be too long in extricating her. Not that Kelle minded being long in the building, but if Stephanie was gravely injured they needed to get her to a trauma center as quickly as possible, and extrication would delay that.. Of course, she was praying that no one was gravely injured... Steven Hudson

Gabby could see it was bad but there was nothing either of them could do for Peter. She knew what it was like to want to do something, to feel that things were out of your control and not be able to do much about it. “No one’s losing anyone Stephanie. You think this house wont do everything and anything it can for family?” Gabby stated firmly, “You listen to me, you’ll both be fine and I swear if I you don’t listen to me I will set Ben on you.” It was a threat she knew she would hardly follow up on.
The man was enough of a pain in the butt in her eyes on the best of days when it came to work and Stephanie. Had they both been male nothing would have been questioned and people would hardly over react at a slight bump but with them, Gabby knew it was always going to be different. Listen to Grace’s voice over the radio she hoped the girl would provide Stephanie with a distraction though how good of one still remained to be seen. Gabby felt herself gasp hearing that Grace had gone into the building.
The place was hardly safe for those in it already let alone a kid who had no idea what they were doing when it came to smoke and fire. Every time Gabby looked at Stephanie she could see the fear, if it was Louie in the building she would have been beside herself with worry. Gabby reached out her hand and tried to wipe the tears away. “Kowalski’s going for her, she’ll be okay Stephanie. We just need you to relax okay.” Gabby had no idea how anyone would do that given the situation but she needed to try to at least give the woman something else to think about.
Gabby tried to do everything she could think of to keep Stephanie warm as they waited for the medics to arrive. She considered screaming into her radio for them but then there was only so fast they could go, she knew that as she decided on a different tact. Absurd statements to at least get a reaction out of the woman she thought as she tried to think of something. “So are the rumours true Stephanie? You and Ben... you know getting married and all?” Gabby asked deciding it was the only thing she could think of at that moment.
“Or that the Lieutenants yelled at you two for behaviour on your first day? I mean the truck is wasn’t too clean from all accounts.” She said trying to laugh though it was better than starting some conspiracy about aliens. She already knew like the entire house that the two had been pulled for their cleaning style but nothing more than that.

Ben was trying to move as fast as possible but sometimes speed had to be sacrificed as he heard the yell of pain from peter. “Okay so you can’t but it will be okay. Probably just temporary, you know when you sit wrong for a long time.” Ben tried to explain it away because anything else just could not be a possibility at all for him. “It’s not as if you’re helping us all out here, I mean you’ve spend this call out on your back so really.” He teased trying to at least make Peter feel a little better though given he was talking to a paramedic who knew their stuff.
When the medic said they could not feel it, then it was bad. With every peace of rubble he moved he could see that things were getting worse for Peter. His lack of talking, he been at the fire house a while and the guy could talk. It was a thing he did though Ben stopped when he started coughing again. “Just hang in there Peter.” He said as he stated moving again, he heard that Grace had gone int ot he building but Ben could hardly be in two places at once or even think about that as he knew she would be grounded for a year after that.
Hearing Peter talk about the nurse with the great legs he laughed. “Come on, you cant just leave it at the ‘not a fan of needles’. Did you two go out?” Ben asked trying to keep Peter talking, that was until he heard the words from a female medic. Ben smirked as he kept working to dig the rest of Peter out from the rubble. “Makes getting into an ambulance worth it, even the needles.” Ben said quietly as he took a step back to see where else he needed to get to. Ben motioned to Catherine that he was going to start moving things of Peter’s legs.
“Yell if it hurts too much Peter, sure the nurse will take good care of you.” He said a little louder as he glanced over to Stephanie. Neither of them were looking too good to him as he nodded to Gabby, Stephanie, Peter and Grace this had to be the most terrifying call of his entire career as he set about his work again.

This was not what they did he thought wondering who he needed to yell at, the medics were outside always outside unless it was city budget cuts and they would be trained as part time cops and fire-fighters too. He was glad to see Kelle grinning as she spoke, Steven nodded as they went in. He could hardly see his own hand though it was just typical for the day so far.
All he wanted to do was to get to Stephanie and get her out, that was their job as Cagney and Lacey had Peter. With the fire-fighters there to guide them along the way he was a little more relaxed than if it had just been themselves but still it was just him risking his neck it was his partner too and that part he was worried about. Not that he doubted her at all in any way it was simply he doubted the building. Everyone in and everyone out was all he could think of as he put one foot in front of the other.
When Catherine started talking about the Wizard of Oz, Steven looked to Kelle and grinned. “Think those two have been sampling the goods on their ambulance... Next thing they’ll be convinced their work boots are magic.” He said with a smirk as he glanced around. “There’s no place like home.” Two sister and he had seen the movie far too many times to count and read the book in equal amounts. Much like fairy tales that he knew off the top of his head thanks to life time of princess stories and make believe.

Shani wanted the strangle Hudson with her own bare hands for his comment as she considered for brief moment knocking him on his backside just to relieve the urge. They had been partners for a brief while until the man had snapped so many times that he became unbearable, he was good at what he did but maybe they were both too passionate about their job that butting heads became a regular thing until she felt like she wanted a quieter day at work. Calls were tough enough without being able to manage to understand a partner on the job too.
Though where Shani had failed, Kelle had seemed to succeed as she smiled toward Kelle glad that someone was able to work with Steven and not kill him. Though that part was still under thought. Shani almost squealed as Catherine said Peter was adorable, “No way... you really like him?” She asked just to make sure she was getting the right end of the stick where things with Peter were concerned. “Oh bite me, seems like it’s the new thing for fire house 51. Besides you’re pretty.” Shani stated with a smirk on her face, this was so much better than the coffee gossip they had so far that day.
“Kansas here we come.” Shani said with a smirk as she followed Catherine toward Peter. She was hardly sure what she expected but it looked worse than what she had thought. The reason medics were not allowed into the buildings she thought silently. “So stranger, hear you stood up my partner?” Shani said as she set about unpacking the bag to take care of the injuries she could see so far. Ben was still uncovering the guy so there was only so much they could do until Peter was entirely freed.

Grace was still screaming out for Stephanie and Ben when she heard another voice from somewhere. “Dad! Mum!” She yelled again as she looked around though the smoke was too think to see much of anything as she listened to the voice. It was the chief she thought wondering if she had heard right as she stood still. Grace was terrified and confused, she couldnt see where she had gotten in the building from and she couldnt see who was calling for her either as she realised just how stupid she had been.
When she felt the arms wrap around her protectively Grace clung to him as she coughed trying not to panic too much though she was scared to death. Her eyes watered as she gasped down the air as she felt the mask over her face. Grace was about to protest being taken out of there when she was picked up in the chief’s arms. She had no idea she reached over his shoulder but she still couldnt see much as she wrapped her arms around the chiefs neck tightly not wanting to let go.
“Chief please... my mum and dad, are they okay? I heard Stephanie was hurt.” She sobbed as she tried to fight of the paramedic that came near her as she coughed. Grace tried to cling to Kowalski’s arm as she buried her face into him. It was bad if her dad wasn’t there and Stephanie hadn’t come out yet she thought as she heard another voice boom over the top of the chatter. “THAT LITTLE DEVIL CHILD!” She heard the chief from house twenty three bellow. “I WANT HER ARRESTED” The man almost screamed as Grace backed up behind Kowalski scared that no only was her family in trouble that she was going to jail now too.

“Okay so you can’t but it will be okay. Probably just temporary, you know when you sit wrong for a long time.”Yes, that made sense, maybe his leg had just fallen asleep, he had been stuck there for a while. How long as he been there? He still did not know how he had gotten into the building in the first place. “It’s not as if you’re helping us all out here, I mean you’ve spend this call out on your back so really.” Bens voice started to fade some more, Peter slowly nodded to let him know he heard him, he didn't want to talk he was already having a hard enough time breathing. “Come on, you cant just leave it at the ‘not a fan of needles’. Did you two go out?” Had he and the nurse gone out? Peter tried his best to remember but all he kept getting was nothing but he knew there was someone. Suddenly a pair of soft hands gently touched him and he felt two fingers go to the pulse point on his neck, "Hey stranger.." the voice was soft and for a brief moment his mind was distracted from everything he was feeling, he felt like he might know the woman, but his moment of peace was short lived. Ben suddenly moved something and Peter let out a raspy scream of pain, he pulled against his left leg, trying to get it away from whatever was hurting him but that only caused more pain, which he wasted no time in letting out another scream, he could feel what felt like metal cutting into his leg. "Ben..." he gritted his teeth, the room was spinning again, "Make it stop...please...god it hurts...." he knew that the firefighter was trying to get him free, but it hurt like hell while he was doing it. Grace felt so tiny in his arms as he carried her out of the building, her small arms tightly around his neck. At the ambulance she wouldn't let go of him, seemingly terrified of the EMT. He realized he was the only secure person in her young life at the moment. The only person she trusted. His mask was replaced with one from the ambulance. They needed to make sure she wasn't suffering from smoke inhalation. “Chief please... my mum and dad, are they okay? I heard Stephanie was hurt.”"It's okay. I got her," Dean raised his hand to the EMT to stop him and turned to look at Grace. "The Paramedics went inside to bring them out, Grace," he reassured her. "You'll see them both soon," he sat down on the bumper of the ambulance and put his hands on each of her shoulders. "Don't worry. I'll be here for you no matter what." “THAT LITTLE DEVIL CHILD! I WANT HER ARRESTED”Dean looked up at Clark, the man's face livid with rage. He stood to confront him as Grace sought safety behind him. "Stand down, Lt. Clark," Dean ordered. "The child did no real harm. Her father and step-mother are both inside. She is just frightened. I have control of the situation. I suggest you go back to your duties and leave me to mine." Although Clark had arrived first and had control of the scene, Dean out ranked him and wouldn't back away, especially when it came to Grace. Grace Taylor, Any

“Think those two have been sampling the goods on their ambulance... Next thing they’ll be convinced their work boots are magic.” He said with a smirk as he glanced around. “There’s no place like home.”
"Can't say it would be so bad just to be able to click your heels and be somewhere." She grasped a hunk of his coat with a gloved hand so that she didn't lose track of him in the smoke, trusting that he was keeping track of the firefighter leading them. "And it's a good thing we don't carry Nitrous anymore, huh?"
It was getting hot, there were snippets of flames when the smoke swirled and little bits of debris were starting to fall on them, although the protective gear, well, protected them! And eventually she just closed her eyes, feeling her way along behind Steven as they navigated the stairs, wondering how in the world they were going to treat a patient when they could hardly see the walls...but then, that was the challenge of the job, right?

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline “No one’s losing anyone Stephanie. You think this house wont do everything and anything it can for family?” Hearing Gabby she wanted to respond but she could only try and fight. She wanted to get up and run to Peter’s side but she couldn’t. Tears were still streaming down her face as she listened to Gabby continue. “You listen to me, you’ll both be fine and I swear if I you don’t listen to me I will set Ben on you.” Stephanie knew better. She trusted Ben, and she trusted Ben to do everything he could for her brother. Then another part of her wanted Gabby to go get Ben, because she wanted to just cry and not feel weak. It was hard to cry in front of Gabby, she didn’t want to make herself look weak. Then there was the whole Grace loose in the building thing. “Kowalski’s going for her, she’ll be okay Stephanie. We just need you to relax okay.” Relax. Ha. She wanted to go and get Grace and she would have gotten up too, if there hadn’t been s stick coming out of her side. She was fading in and out at this point though. “So are the rumours true Stephanie? You and Ben... you know getting married and all?” Wait where did she hear about the fake engagement story? Hudson had promised not to tell, then again the nurses at the hospital weren’t exactly known for being tight lipped. She wanted to say something but couldn’t. Mainly because she was listening to Gabby and the next words out of her mouth. “Or that the Lieutenants yelled at you two for behaviour on your first day? I mean the truck is wasn’t too clean from all accounts.” Stephanie was glad that it was too dark and dusty for Gabby to see the ever reddening color to hear cheeks. Then she heard another familiar voice coming up the hall. “There is no place like home” It was a voice that she was glad to hear. Her voice weakly called out for Steven. She’d never met his partner but if Hudson trusted her then… well right now she was in no state to fight with anyone. She then heard Peter’s voice calling for Ben and it hurt her as she tried to move. No, she wasn’t strong enough for that. The blue tint to her lips had grown deeper and she was sweating almost as fast as she could shiver.

“No way... you really like him?” “Yeah I do actually” Catherine pointed out as she crossed the floor as quick of a pace as she could manage. Catherine could tell that Ben was having a rough time as she could see how buried Peter was from the waist down. At least most of it have been removed from his chest. “So stranger, hear you stood up my partner?” A scream as Ben was moving things. Okay well he had feeling there. “Peter tell me what else hurts” she replied as she asked for Shani to stop any external bleeding she could reach as Ben unearthed Peter. Grabbing the mask off of Peter she hooked it up to one of the extra tanks she had brought with her. There was little she could do until they got him to a hospital. She was more worried about internal bleeding and other things. Catherine’s hands worked swiftly but also carefully. In her head she was trying to work out how they were going to get him out of here. He was going to need a backboard. “Did you hit your head?” She asked him. Okay well that obvious as she started to work on stopping the bleeding there. “He needs blood” She pointed out to Shani. His head bleeding was enough to worry her. “We also need to get him out now” she replied as she started doing what she could for Peter at the moment. @peanut Shani McGuireTemplate by Ulla of Adoxography

we've lost it all my heart is beating im gonna pass the test @kellyseveride
"Too much like the day we lost Shay. But my head's in the game still and that's all that matters,"
Matt didn’t want to think about that. Though he knew that Kelly was thinking about just that. “They are going to be alright.” He assured him as they came onto the floor. Matt motioned for Kelly to follow him once they had the medics at work where they were supposed to be. “Where is that ladder?” the call went out over the radio. Sighing the Lieutenant was not happy to have to ask things twice. His words came out very hot headed.
“Trust me, they will get out of this and you can have Harris’ head for disobeying orders. Not to mention the radio behavior?” Okay so it wasn’t the best topic change but it was something. Yes, it was related but it was optimistic. If Kelly could write them up, it meant they made it out alive. “Believe it or not Kelly they need you right now. One step at a time right?” Then a thought hit him. “Why don’t you call for a check in on squad?” Not really trying to tell him how to do his job but he hadn’t heard Kelly ask for a squad report since they got there. Also maybe trying to give him something to focus on. Really Matt was having to babysit why? Right, because no one’s head was on straight right now. “Keep your eye on Taylor right now. He’s got a lot going on right now too. Make sure he has his head on as we get them out of here. You can handle that Severide” Little objectives, little goals to get the guy to focus and get his head out of the past for now.

Kelly nodded as Matt assured him that everyone would be okay. He wasn't sure that he believed it, but at least one of them did. To be honest, he had never been good with keeping faith in things. He had lost that ability after his parents' divorce, and it had been worse after Renee Whaley had cheated on him. But he was slowly starting to find it again, thanks to Brittany.
He then pushed this thought aside as Matt said something into the radio before assuring him that everyone would be all right, that they needed him at the moment and that they'd take it one step at a time. "Yeah," he agreed with a nod. That sounded good. He had needed that. When Matt suggested that he call in for a report, he gave himself a mental slap. Damn it! What had he been thinking? He activated his radio and pressed the talk button. "Squad Three report," he barked professionally. Yup, he had gone into leader mode. That's what they needed right now. A leader. Not him falling apart like some candidate.
He nodded as his friend encouraged him to keep an eye on Ben, reminding him that he had a lot going on as well and that they needed to make sure he had his head on straight as well as they got everyone out of there. "You're right," he agreed. I swear, he was a dog or a wolf in a former life. He's a total pack animal, he thought to himself. Not that he'd say that out loud. It was inappropriate and Matt would probably slug him. Okay, focusing now.

Gabby knew no matter how much she said there was no changing the situation that they were all in. Peter was hurt, badly by the sounds of it and Stephanie was hardly far behind that. The only thing she knew was that house fifty one was hardly in the habit of leaving their team mates behind. Everyone was family and even the paramedics were heading into the building without kicking up a fuss so that spoke to their feelings on the case too she felt. Unless they were all just a little nuts that day as everyone had the odd crazy day.
It was always difficult to be upset in front of anyone but Gabby never for one minute mistook that for Stephanie being weak in any way. If it was Matt and herself in the same situation with Louie then she sure as hell would have been crying, angry and snapping at people until she was sedated. It was a lot to handle all in one day, Peter injured, Ben helping him out, being injured yourself and Grace running into a burning building. It was probably not the day that was going so well everyone could have smiles on their faces when they got back to base.
All Gabby was trying to do was give the woman something to think about, she knew nothing of an engagement but she decided to just make it up as it went along. It was how most of the rumours got around fifty one anyway she was sure of that. Gabby knew nothing other than Ben and Stephanie had been pulled by the Lieutenants and even then that was the extent of her knowledge on the subject though everyone got their knuckles wrapped eventually there. It was how things went at the house, over stepping or just a very bad day and someone was unlucky and got caught.
“See Stephanie, told you it would all be alright.” Gabby stated as she moved back a little to give the medics room to work. Though she glared at Steven giving him an eye roll though through the smoke she wasn’t entirely sure if he would have seen her. “Took you guys long enough.” She said looking between Kelle and Steven before biting her lip a moment, no she was snapping out of frustration and worry. “Sorry... just get to it, she’s going into shock, pale, needs oxygen and..” Gabby stopped herself from going any further on the matter, no she was the fire-fighter now not the medic.

Ben saw Peter nod to what he had said though he knew it wasn’t good. Nodding meant he was awake which was a great thing but not answering, no he had to focus and keeping moving what he could to free him. No point in panicking he told himself quietly though all he really wanted to do was panic. Peter was seriously hurt, Stephanie had a stick in her side and Grace, he hoped Kowalski had Grace because he losing anyone he never dealt well with. The last time it happened he had moved clear across the country in an effort to get away from it.
Still it had worked out after fourteen years he thought but the last fourteen had hardly been the kind that were easy. Ben kept moving until he heard Peters raspy scream of pain, Ben took his hands away as he tried to see what was causing it. “Peter it’s okay, just a couple seconds more okay.” He said as he got lower to see the piece of metal that was causing the problem. Ben grabbed the spare axe as he placed it on the piece of metal he could see cutting into Peter’s leg, with his boot he pushed down on the axe to keep the metal away from Peter’s leg.
“See told you you’d feel that leg eventually.” Ben teased as he went about moving the rubble again when he heard Catherine say they needed to get him out of there. “I’m working on it.” He said as he scrabbled quickly to move the rest of rubble to try and see if they would be able to move him as he nodded. “You need better taste in women Peter, very demanding.” Ben teased as he looked toward Catherine again. “Think we can move him without too much damage being done?” Ben asked wanting a medical standpoint on it.
If they needed certain things moved for equipment then it was done but for what he could see, it would be a good attempt to get him out depending on what was underneath him. “Peter how are you feeling now?” Ben asked not sure what answer he was hoping for but it was all he could do to hope for a yes great. Ben jumped a little as he heard Severide bark professionally over the radio, the man almost sounded like he was stood right behind him as Ben took a breath and picked up his radio.
"This is Taylor." Ben said shakily, professional he thought he had to be professional. His entire family was in that building and half of them were hurt while he had to just get on and do his job without thinking about it which hurt like hell. "Looking at possibly moving Peter Harris, waiting on the medics thoughts." Ben answered before he looked to the paramedics for what to do.
