Matt was sat in his car parked several yards away from the school, watching and waiting for Aria. He had asked her to find out the name of a young guy who had been dealing to some of the 8th grade students at the school. He had given her a few days to do some digging and had arranged to pick her up after school and take her home so she could relay the information to him. The detective had agreed to park a few yards from the school for the sake of discretion so that no-one would find out that Aria was working as his confidential informant. Matt had his hands loosely gripped on the wheel as he watched the hovering crowed of teens filtering to their buses or parent's cars. Then seeing Aria appear out the school doors he fastened his seatbelt and took the bottle of water off the front passenger seat so she would be able to sit there. "Afternoon." He greeted, in a friendly but professional tone once she made her way over to the car and climbed in. Matt made sure she was buckled in and offered her the bottle of water before he pulled the car away. "So what did you learn at school today?" He asked in a faux dad tone, joking around with her to stop the car from feeling too serious or tense. Not that he wouldn't love to hear that she had actually learned something at school. "So, what did you manage to find out?" He asked referring to the mission she had been tasked with. Tag: Aria Campbell . |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Hearing the final bell for the day, Aria quickly put away her notebook in her backpack and got up before leaving her last class for the day. She still had her reservations about school, but she was getting used to being back in school again. Aria followed a few of her friends out of the building, only partially listening to their plans for the day as she scanned the area looking for Matt’s car. There was something about going to a restaurant that they frequented, and normally Aria would be excited to tag along. However, she was currently grounded because of the whole mess involving the party and getting drunk. Even if she wasn’t grounded right now, Aria still wouldn’t be able to go today as she was supposed to talk to Matt about a dealer in her school. Spotting Matt’s car a few yards away from the school, Aria quickly said bye to her friends and told them to have fun before making her way to the car. “Hey” the teen greeted as she opened the passenger door and got in. “Thanks” Aria said, taking the water once she was buckled in. She shrugged, taking a sip from the bottle before responding. “Nothing much, really”“We’re going over graphs or something in math. I don’t really understand it so I’m going to have to ask Evan about it. I have a paper due in English in two days, and I’m like two chapters behind in the book it’s over” it was more like five or six chapters, but Aria wasn’t about to admit that. “I’ll probably just skim them though and then BS my way through the paper”Aria glanced over at Matt after mentioning she was behind in an English assignment. The last thing she needed was for him to rat her out to her adoptive parents about that, especially because Aria had told Evan and Vanessa she was caught up on her assignments. “Please don’t tell Evan or Vanessa about that though. I may have told them that I was caught up on the reading and that I had started on the paper” Aria continued, offering a sheepish grin. She had already disappointed her adoptive parents once, and she really didn’t feel like getting another lecture from them again. “I also got invited to go out to eat with some friends today. We usually try to go once or twice a week to relax and talk about what’s going on around the school. It turns out that private schools have just as much drama as public schools” Aria said, shaking her head. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise to her though. High school was high school, whether you attended a public one or not. “I had to turn down the offer to go though. I’m kind of not allowed to leave the house right now except for things like school and work.” In other words, she was grounded. But Aria wasn’t about to outright say that right now. Then came the question about what she had found out in regards to the dealer. Aria may attend a private school now, but there were still some similarities with public school. And one similarity appeared to be a dealer. “The kid’s name is Chester Heath. He’s in the grade above me. I don’t really know much about him but a friend of mine does and they told me a little bit about him. He mainly deals with weed, but my friend says that he’s occasionally sold other drugs too”“He’s picky about his customers though. From what I’ve heard you have to have someone vouch for you before he’ll sell to you. My friend may have offered to vouch for me if I was interested, but don’t worry I turned it down. I’m pretty sure my adoptive parents would be furious if I bought drugs” Aria finished. Given they had been furious about her missing curfew and being brought home drunk, Aria could only imagine how they would react if she brought drugs into the house. “That’s all that I managed to get about him” Matthew Cole [attr="class","Ariabox2"]all this time i was finding myself, and i didn't know i was lost [newclass=".Ariatitle"]margin-top:20px;width:361px;text-align:left;font-size:39px;font-family:Montserrat;color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Aria"]padding-top:8px;margin-top:-20px;width:350px;height:515px;background-image:url('https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/pQY48G.jpg');border-left:5px solid #A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox"]width:315px;padding:10px;padding-top:0px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-bottom:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox2"]margin-top:-5px;position:justify;width:315px;padding:10px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-top:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain"]margin-top:10px;padding:15px;width:305px;background-color:white;height:414px;color:black;overflow:auto;font-size:10px;opacity:0;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain:hover]opacity:.8;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain b]color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#4646FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariacred]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:2px;[/newclass] [Googlefont="Montserrat"]

Matt scoffed amusedly with a light shake of his head when Aria said she'd learned nothing much. 'A school day well spent' he thought to himself. But to be fair it was a standard teenage response to that question, and the same answer he had given his mom to the same question countless times when he was her age. "Ugh they make math far more complicated than they need to." He commented casually. "one minute five plus five equals ten, then the next minute y times w divided by x means ten, but only if the train is traveling south at one hundred and twelve miles per hour." Yes he was playing it cool and making light of the conversation. It wouldn't do any good to nag or lecture her to pay better attention in class. Truth was even if student's paid attention they could still struggle with a particular subject, he had been there himself in high school. He was just happy to hear her being honest and admitting where she was with school at the moment. And the fact she said she would have Evan explain it to her showed him she was actually trying, and that she was taking or had taken to Evan enough to go to him for help and advise like a normal teen. All wins in his book. "Why doesn't that surprise me?" He asked when she admitted being a couple of chapters behind, "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me." He assured her when she asked him not to rat her out to Evan and Vanessa. "We've all fallen behind and BSed a paper or two in out time." He added, more like a chilled uncle than a hard ass cop. "Just as long as you don't make a habit out of it. I think we can let it slid, just this once." He could see the girl had been trying since Evan and Vanessa had gotten her into that school, so yeah he could cut her a little slack if it meant she'd keep trying and improving with time. It was better for her to know she could come to him and yes he would put her straight and maybe give her a hard time, but he wouldn't always come down on her like a tone of bricks. Matt smirked, keeping his eyes on the road ahead. It was amusing to hear the comment about drama in public schools. Like she expected any different bless her. Not to mention it was nice hearing Aria had friends she liked to hang out with. It was a marked improvement from the days of her being out at all hours and delivering suspect packages. "Yeah. Trust me private schools can have just as much, if not more drama than public schools." Oh he had seen some things during his years as a uniformed officer. "Rich people can be very scandalous"Then his smirk faded back to a natural expression when she told him she wasn't allowed to leave the house, "Really?" Like he hadn't caught wind of that one already He put a pin in the subject and listened to the information he had asked her to get. "That's good, Aria. Very helpful." He acknowledged as he made a mental not of every word she had told him, "Chester Heath." He said to himself as he locked the info into his mental volt. It wasn't Chester he was interested in as such, the guy was just a dumb kid making some really stupid mistakes at the end of the day. It was the people who Chester was getting his products from that was the focus. CPD had been a couple of years working to bring down the operation behind it all and Chester was the key to getting that door open and finding the real criminals. "And that's good to hear." He replied when she told him she turned down the opportunity to have her friend vouch for her. Hearing that was exactly the reason why he invested his time in these kids, and why he had invested in Aria. "I know you finding me one name probably doesn't seem like a big deal, but you've actually been very helpful. Thanks to you we can stop a lot of peoples lives being hurt by drugs, a lot of em your age. You did good" He glanced at her as they continued to drive, "I'm proud of you, kid."Matt shifted gears as he changed speed to keep with city traffic. He also took the opportunity to shift gears metaphorically, "I'm sure your adoptive parents would be proud too..." He added, which had to make him wonder, "...So how comes they won't let you out of the house?" He asked casually, as if he didn't already know. Well he knew the headline anyway, but not all the finer details of the story. Now was where he had a chance to find out the facts straight from the horses mouth. Tag: Aria Campbell . |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Aria laughed at Matt’s comment about math equations. “I swear there are times when I do exactly what the teacher does, and I still get the wrong answer” She explained. “And word problems are so weird. Seriously, who goes out and buys 10 watermelons, five pineapples, and then decides to calculate the mass of the sun?” Math definitely wasn’t Aria’s best subject in school, but that wasn’t anything new. She had always struggled with it, even before dropping out. It didn’t help matters any that she didn’t really like the subject that much either, but at least Evan was willing to help her. It made it more tolerable at least. “I also wish they didn’t assign so much homework either. Do teachers not realize kids have lives too?” Aria shrugged as Matt said he wasn't surprised. “Probably because it’s something I have done before, back before Evan and Vanessa took me in and before I dropped out” this was the first time Aria had fallen behind since being back in school, and she was trying to not make it a habit. But she was a teenager and things happened periodically. “Thanks for not telling them, detective Cole. I promise it’s not going to be a regular thing” “I’m starting to figure that out. I’m pretty sure they can be more scandalous at times” Aria replied, shaking her head. “It’s like they think they’re invincible. Not all of them of course, but some of them like to think and act like they are” Aria let out a small chuckle as she continued. “If I tried to do any of the crap that some of them do, I can guarantee that my adoptive parents wouldn’t be pleased”. Evan and Vanessa would probably end up grounding her again if she tried some of the things the other kids did. “It’s like a different world, detective Cole” It was definitely a world Aria wasn’t used to. She had grown up in public schools, even before her biological parents had passed away. And while public schools weren’t always terrible, they definitely didn’t compare to private schools either. “Or at least it’s different then what I grew up around” If there was one thing about kids and school, is that people loved to talk. And they loved to tell their friends everything. So it wasn’t that difficult to get information about Chester. All she had to do was ask a friend, somebody who trusted her, who he was and what he did. The rest was simple. “It wasn’t that hard, really. I just had to ask the right friend” “It’s weird to think about the fact that I was in Chester’s position at one point” Aria continued. “Delivering packages for a gang, helping with deals when needed. Hell, if I hadn’t been arrested I probably would still be involved with them. What’s going to happen to him anyways?” “It’s not that big of a deal. I have no desire to try anything” Aria explained. “Besides, Evan and Vanessa would probably kill me if I brought drugs into their house” Her adoptive parents knew of her history, of course. “I may have told them I would stay out of trouble” Aria smiled a little as Matt mentioned that he was proud of her. She didn’t think she could ever get used to anyone telling her they were proud of her. “Thanks” she said. She was about to continue, but paused when Matt asked about why she wasn’t allowed to leave the house. The teenager bit her lip, trying to figure out what to say and how much of it to say. “Evan and Vanessa are proud of me” she said, slowly. She was trying to pick her words carefully. “And the whole ‘can’t leave the house’ thing is only temporary. I’m kind of grounded” Aria explained. “But it’s not even that big of a deal” “I missed curfew, but it was unintentional. I forgot I had a curfew and I lost track of time” that much was true. Aria had unintentionally broke curfew and while at the party she forgot she had one. And she wasn’t exactly focused on the time. She just didn’t explain where she was either. “I eventually end up home, but at that point Evan and Vanessa know I’ve missed curfew and were waiting for me to come home. So we get into a disagreement about the whole thing and I end up grounded and told that I can’t leave the house” It wasn’t the whole truth, but it wasn’t exactly a lie either. Aria was just trying to avoid telling Matt where she had been and what had actually happened. Back when she had gotten arrested, Aria had promised Matt that she would try to stay out of trouble. And going to a party, getting drunk, and being brought home by her parents’ security detail wasn’t exactly staying out of trouble. “I’ll be ungrounded eventually and then I can go back to spending time with friends after school and on the weekend. So it’s nothing too serious” Matthew Cole [attr="class","Ariabox2"]all this time i was finding myself, and i didn't know i was lost [newclass=".Ariatitle"]margin-top:20px;width:361px;text-align:left;font-size:39px;font-family:Montserrat;color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Aria"]padding-top:8px;margin-top:-20px;width:350px;height:515px;background-image:url('https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/pQY48G.jpg');border-left:5px solid #A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox"]width:315px;padding:10px;padding-top:0px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-bottom:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox2"]margin-top:-5px;position:justify;width:315px;padding:10px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-top:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain"]margin-top:10px;padding:15px;width:305px;background-color:white;height:414px;color:black;overflow:auto;font-size:10px;opacity:0;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain:hover]opacity:.8;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain b]color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#4646FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariacred]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:2px;[/newclass] [Googlefont="Montserrat"]

Matt grinned and chuckled at Aria's. "True" He agreed with a leisurely nod. "Why tell a story of friends buying fruit or cookies and eating 'em when you could just say what is 249,998 minus 5916? Maybe it's just me but I didn't get all that and always had to strip word problems down to basics." "Sorry to tell you kid, it doesn't get much better when you grow up. Between work and responsibilities there isn't as much time for 'a life' as you think there will be when you're a kid." A sad truth for a lot of adults. "Unless of course you're rich or something and don't have to work. But I for one would go nut's sitting around all day without a job." "I'm here to look out for you kid, not to rat you out or hassle you over every little thing." He reminded her when she thanked him for not telling. "Oh it's a different world all together." He all but whistled. "It's like another planet sometimes. And some people tend to think the rules don't apply to them I'll tell you." Oh Matt had some stories from his time spent in 'the land of the rich' working on cases, but Aria was too young to hear most of them. "Well the fact is you asked that friend. Not everyone would." He pointed out, giving her credit for that. "And being arrested was a crossroad. You are the one who accepted the help that was offered and put in the work to change things." He began, "Chester is gonna have the same chance. What he chooses to do is up to him." A tiny, contented smile crept onto Matt's face when she stated her adoptive parents were proud, but he kept it hidden. He could hear by everything she had said and the way she said it that she actually cared what they thought, that they cared about her and she cared about them and was making a go of the life and family they had offered her. Honestly that was he invested his time and effort in young people like Aria and it made the hard work and frustrations worth it. But Roam wasn't build in a day...or even a month, and Aria still had a bit of a way to go. "Missed curfew huh?" Matt mused casually. "I guess we've all done that too." Oh he wasn't going to let on just yet that he know there was more than what she was telling him. "So you're grounded an unspecified amount of time for just missing curfew? Sound's a bit harsh. In my day that earned just a week or two." He was going to give her the opportunity to spill the beans and see how honest she would be before he called her out and read her the riot act.
