[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] If there was one thing Aria hated right now, it was nightmares. When she was in the hospital, she didn’t really have to worry about them. She was on a lot of medication, and Evan and Vanessa had been there which seemed to help keep the nightmares away. It had been about a week and a half since Aria had been released from the hospital and into Evan and Vanessa’s care. She had been told by her doctors that she needed to take things easy for a while so her body could continue to heal, especially her ribs which were still sore. That meant no strenuous activities, no riding her bike, and a lot of rest. For the most part, Aria listened though it was with a lot of reluctance. It wasn’t that bad though. Aria was finally with a family where adoption was a possibility, and Evan and Vanessa were great. The sixteen year old enjoyed being with them. What she didn’t enjoy were the nightmares where she was back in the precinct, unable to get out. It was why, at nearly four in the morning, Aria had silently crept out of her room and made her way to the kitchen. Normally she was able to fall back asleep, but not this time. The dream had felt a little too real for Aria, and she didn’t want to go back to sleep. So to prevent that, Aria figured she would make some coffee. She just hoped Evan and Vanessa didn’t mind. Making her way to the pantry, Aria grabbed what she needed to make coffee before going over to the coffee machine. She grabbed the part that the coffee ground was supposed to go in and set it aside. She had been doing a good job of staying quiet so far, but that wasn’t meant to last. As Aria reached for the coffee grounds, she bumped into the piece that she had set aside, sending it crashing to the floor. “Damn it” Aria whispered, as she bent down to grab the piece, ignoring the small protest her ribs gave. Looking around the kitchen, Aria listened for any sounds of someone approaching and relaxed a little when she couldn’t hear any footsteps. Maybe she had gotten lucky and hadn’t woken up anyone. Once the coffee was brewing, Aria set off to do her next task, find something to eat. Checking the freezer, Aria grabbed a couple of the microwavable biscuits in there and popped them into the microwave. Now came her first obstacle, getting a coffee mug for the coffee. Aria was short. She could probably reach the cabinets without too much of a problem if she stood on her toes, but that would cause her already sore ribs to ache even more. Aria could slide a chair over and stand on it, but that would cause a lot of noise and she had already made plenty between trying to make coffee and using the microwave. The only other option was to climb on the counter. It would still irritate her ribs, but it would be a quieter option. Putting her hands down on the counter, Aria jumped onto the counter. “Ow. Shit” she said, wincing. Climbing on the counter definitely wasn’t a good idea, but at least she could grab the coffee cup now. Grabbing a plastic travel mug, Aria was about to hop off the counter when the microwave beeped, indicating her food was finished. Almost immediately, Aria let out a small yelp in surprise and lost her grip on the travel mug, causing it to fall onto the counter, roll, and fall to the floor. Normally the sound wouldn’t have spooked Aria, but the sixteen year old was already on edge from her dream, and she was also tired. Letting out a frustrated sigh, Aria looked up at the ceiling. She would hop down from the counter in a second, but right now her ribs were complaining and she knew they would protest more if she jumped down and picked up the mug. So staying on the counter was the only option right now. Maybe she should’ve listened to her doctors more. [attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Evan was plagued by nightmares of his own. They didn't come as frequently as they once had, but neither would they ever go away. It was one of those nightmares that jolted him awake now, his skin glistening in cold sweat. His breathing remained heavy and panicked, all the familiar feelings of fear and helplessness rushing back in a surge of emotion. Disoriented, Evan glanced wildly about the room, met only by darkness. As his eyes adjusted, he found himself safe at home, but that didn't keep his heart from pounding. Rolling over to face Vanessa, Evan expected to find her already facing him, wrapped in the warmth of their comforter, eyes full of worry. She'd always been a light sleeper and his nightmare often woke her. Her spot beside him was empty -- she'd been called away on a business trip to grow WhitTech. With a heavy sigh, he slipped out of bed. Evan would call it an early morning with lots of coffee. He had no desire to try going back to sleep alone. Not if it meant confronting his kidnapper and his own mortality again. Dressed in a Stanford t-shirt and flannel pajama pants, Evan shuffled across the floor. The loud crash practically sent him rocketing through the roof. After the initial jump, Evan stood frozen. It wouldn't be any of the babies -- Aleks, Izzy, and Eva were all too young to be wandering the house. The same couldn't be said for Aria, the troubled, young woman he and Vanessa were working towards adopting. Did she had to give him heart failure while she did it? Opening the bedroom door, Evan headed towards the kitchen, where the sound seemed to have come from. "Aria Campbell," Evan greeted the teenager sternly, the way a parent might when their child did something they weren't supposed to. Despite the tone of his voice, the look on his face would tell her how worried he was. There were some things she shouldn't be doing until she was fully healed. "Tell me you did not climb up there against the doctor's orders. You're going to hurt yourself. Let me help you down."Aria Campbell[attr="class","evanright2"] |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Hearing her name, Aria tore her gaze away from the ceiling and looked over at Evan. She felt a wave of guilt wash over her, wondering if she had woken him up. In her defense though, Aria was trying to be quiet. She had just knocked a few items over in the process. As Aria rubbed the back of her neck, she offered Evan a sheepish grin. “Hey Evan...er Dr. Cross” she started. The sixteen year old was still unsure about what to actually call her possible adoptive father. Logically, Aria knew she could call him Evan. She had done so while she was in the hospital. She had even called him dad before her memories returned. However, a part of Aria was also trying to avoid getting attached in case something happened and the adoption fell through or wasn’t approved. “I woke up and couldn’t go back to sleep. So I made some coffee and something to eat” Aria explained, trying to keep her explanation vague. She didn’t want to worry Evan any by admitting that she had had a nightmare and didn’t want to go back to bed. "Tell me you did not climb up there against the doctor's orders”Aria shrugged, looking away. “I didn’t climb on the counter, per se. It was more like I placed my hands on the counter and jumped” she explained, though it wasn’t like it would make much of a difference. Aria had still ended up on top of the counter. “Besides, the doctor didn’t technically tell me I couldn’t climb onto the counter. He just said I was supposed to rest and not do anything strenuous” Aria pointed out. That was something she was finding increasingly difficult to follow. Aria was a teenager with a lot of energy. She got restless easily, and being on bed rest only made it worse. The sixteen year old was ready to go back to doing what she did prior to the explosion, and that was spending her days doing whatever in the city and going to work. “You're going to hurt yourself. Let me help you down."“I’m fine. Honestly, I think my doctor was overreacting” Aria said, but she still accepted Evan’s help to get down. She wrapped her arm around his side, allowing Evan to support some of her weight as she got off the counter. It didn’t hurt as much as it probably would’ve if Aria tried to get down on her own, though she still winced slightly at the movement. “It’s been almost two weeks since I was released from the hospital and the most I’ve done is rest” Aria complained, letting out a sigh. “I’m ready to be out and about again. I want to go back to exploring the city and working” That was another thing. Aria couldn’t remember when she had last been at work. It wasn’t like she had to worry about being back anytime soon though, given she lived with Vanessa now. Even if Aria didn’t live with her boss and her boss’ family, Aria knew Vanessa would’ve still given her however long she needed. It didn’t make matters any easier though. Aria felt like she was ready for things to be normal again, and for her to be off bed rest but until her doctor said otherwise, Aria knew Evan and Vanessa wouldn’t let her do much. [attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Evan shook his head, her sheepish smile endearing, even under the circumstances. Aria was sixteen – she shouldn't be calling him Dr. Cross. He wasn't some teacher at the local high school or college, where that might be appropriate, but Evan understood she might not be completely comfortable calling him dad. It had only been a couple of weeks since her from the hospital and the adoption process would take several months to finalize. In the meantime, he would just have to put a stop to any thoughts of using his title and last name. Evan reached over and tousled her hair with a small grin of his own. "It's Evan, kiddo. Dr. Cross is for people older than you."The fact Aria was having some trouble sleeping didn't concern him. Her technicality did. Trying to think of ways to skirt everything the doctor had advised wouldn't help her recover. Whether she had climbed or jumped up onto the counter might seem a major differentiating detail to her, but either one could aggravate her injuries further. It might be difficult for someone that age, so full of energy, to rest and relax, but it remained in her best interests to do so. Evan pointed towards the breakfast area. "That still qualifies as strenuous. Sit down."Rubbing at his bleary, sleep deprived eyes, Evan breathed in the refreshing aroma of coffee in the morning. Fighting off a yawn, he spoke through it, anticipating that Aria would follow his instructions. "I hope you at least made enough coffee for two. I can't go back to sleep."As Evan started pouring the first mug, with a glance over his shoulder, he checked to make sure Aria had followed his instructions. Bringing two full mugs of coffee with him, Evan sat down opposite the teenager, and set one of them down in front of Aria. Nursing his own drink between two hands, he peered over the mug, trying to gauge her reaction. "I know you want to get out and do things, but you need to be careful. What do you think about us going out to the movies later?"Aria Campbell[attr="class","evanright2"] |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] “Evan!” Aria complained, laughing as she gently swatted his hand away from her hair. Looking at him, the sixteen year old shook her head in amusement before wrapping her arms around Evan in a hug. “My hair is already a mess because I haven’t brushed it yet. You’re going to make it worse” Aria said before letting go. She then ran her fingers through her hair, trying to get some of the knots and tangles out. "That still qualifies as strenuous. Sit down."Aria frowned, but did as Evan told. She walked over to the breakfast area and sat down. “I climbed onto the counter. It wasn’t like I was doing parkour or playing the floor is lava. It didn’t even hurt” she replied, resting her head on the table. Though that was a lie. Getting up on the counter had irritated her ribs some, but Aria was fine. “Is everything okay?” Aria asked, lifting her head slightly to look over at Evan. Had something happened? Did Evan get a phone call from his and Vanessa’s lawyer about the adoption? As Evan came and sat down, Aria offered him a small smile before taking a sip of her coffee. “Thanks” she mumbled. "I know you want to get out and do things, but you need to be careful.”Aria gave a small nod, keeping her gaze on her coffee mug. “I know” she said with a sigh. “I’m just tired of doing nothing but rest. I can only watch netflix for so long. Besides, the doctor wouldn’t release me from the hospital if he didn’t think I was ready” “What do you think about us going out to the movies later?"Aria perked up at that, looking up at Evan. The sixteen year old searched his face to try to figure out if he was lying or not. “Really?” she asked, unable to keep a smile off her face. “Yeah. I’m up for going to the movies” She didn’t say anything for a few minutes after that and instead focused on her coffee. “Evan” Aria began. “Have you heard anything about the adoption yet?” Aria knew that the adoption process would probably take a few months, but she was ready for it to be finalized. The longer it took, the more the sixteen year old couldn’t help but worry. Aria knew Vanessa and Evan had custody of her, and that wasn’t likely to change unless they changed their mind. However, that didn’t mean that the adoption couldn’t be denied. “The courts didn’t deny the adoption, did they? They’ll let you and Vanessa adopt me, right?” Evan Cross [attr="class","Ariabox2"]all this time i was finding myself, and i didn't know i was lost [newclass=".Ariatitle"]margin-top:20px;width:361px;text-align:left;font-size:39px;font-family:Montserrat;color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Aria"]padding-top:8px;margin-top:-20px;width:350px;height:515px;background-image:url('https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/pQY48G.jpg');border-left:5px solid #A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox"]width:315px;padding:10px;padding-top:0px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-bottom:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox2"]margin-top:-5px;position:justify;width:315px;padding:10px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-top:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain"]margin-top:10px;padding:15px;width:305px;background-color:white;height:414px;color:black;overflow:auto;font-size:10px;opacity:0;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain:hover]opacity:.8;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain b]color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#4646FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariacred]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:2px;[/newclass] [Googlefont="Montserrat"]

[attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Evan chuckled. Aria might not be pleased with the current state of her hair – knotted and tangled – but it was 4 AM. His own hair stuck up in awkward patches. It was the last thing they should be worrying about at this hour. "You'll live. There's no one here to see your hair."The nightmares weighed heavily on him, but had Aria misinterpreted his inability to go back to sleep as bad news about the adoption? Evan shook his head, trying to reassure her otherwise. The government liked to take its time, ensuring all of the necessary paperwork through each stage be filled out in triplicate. Perhaps understandably so with children involved. You wanted to make sure they found a good home with parents who would care about them. When it came to attorneys, Evan and Vanessa could afford the best. The process would continue to go smoothly and efficiently. "Everything's still on track."Evan, for the first time in his life, shot Aria a knowing parental look. One of those annoying ones his own parents used to give him, usually when he knew he was wrong. It was a delicious bit of irony for the roles to be reversed. No doubt Aria would be saying the same thing to herself right now. "That's why I found you stuck on a counter?"Evan nodded. The movies sounded like the perfect recipe to get Aria out of the house – give her something to do besides sit around and watch Netflix from the comfort of her own bed. Plus, it would be a good way for them to spend some time together. "Sure. Not too strenuous and it'll give you some fresh air. You know, assuming it's cool for someone your age to hang out with someone in their early thirties," he teased. Aria Campbell[attr="class","evanright2"] |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Aria breathed a sigh of relief when Evan said everything was still on track for the adoption. “That’s good” she said, offering a small smile. “I just wish the process would go by quicker so I can officially be yours and Vanessa’s daughter.” That’s all Aria wanted right now. She wanted the adoption to be finalized so she could finally relax. She would have a family again, and a large one from the looks of it. She didn’t mind the size though. In fact, Aria enjoyed the idea of being in a large family. She would have siblings she could look after and be the ‘cool older sister’ to, and grandparents that she could visit. “And you’re sure that it’s okay that I keep my last name?” Aria asked. She had considered changing her last name to Whitmore-Cross, but Aria wasn’t ready to part with her last name. It was something that still tied her to her parents, and Aria wasn’t sure if she would ever be willing to give up the Campbell name. Aria knew the look Evan was giving her a little too well, and she couldn’t help but lower her gaze. Of course Evan would be able to tell she had been lieing about being in pain. “I would’ve found a way down eventually. Though I appreciate the help” she said. The sixteen year old would accept defeat this time. “Just please don’t make me take any of the pain meds. They make me drowsy. Besides, the pain in my ribs is already subsiding” Aria added. The doctor had prescribed the pain medicine for when she needed it. Aria used them occasionally, but it was nights like these when she preferred tylenol or ibuprofen. They didn’t make her drowsy like the pain medicine did. Just the thought of going back to bed worried Aria. She didn’t want to risk having another nightmare yet. “If it makes you feel better, I can take tylenol” Aria offered. “Could we get ice cream afterwards?” Aria asked, looking at Evan with the classic ‘puppy eyes’ kids and teenagers were known to give their parents when they really wanted something. The sixteen year old even tilted her head slightly for an added measure. “And you won’t have to worry about if it’s cool or not. For starters, I don’t care what others think. I’m getting out of the house, and I’m sure you could use the break too. Secondly, depending on what time we go we won’t have to worry about anyone my age judging us because they’ll be in school still” Aria responded Evan Cross [attr="class","Ariabox2"]all this time i was finding myself, and i didn't know i was lost [newclass=".Ariatitle"]margin-top:20px;width:361px;text-align:left;font-size:39px;font-family:Montserrat;color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Aria"]padding-top:8px;margin-top:-20px;width:350px;height:515px;background-image:url('https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/pQY48G.jpg');border-left:5px solid #A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox"]width:315px;padding:10px;padding-top:0px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-bottom:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox2"]margin-top:-5px;position:justify;width:315px;padding:10px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-top:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain"]margin-top:10px;padding:15px;width:305px;background-color:white;height:414px;color:black;overflow:auto;font-size:10px;opacity:0;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain:hover]opacity:.8;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain b]color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#4646FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariacred]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:2px;[/newclass] [Googlefont="Montserrat"]

[attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Cross Consolidated, as a major contractor for the military and several armed federal agencies, dealt with the government on a regular basis, so Evan spoke with a wealth of experience on the subject. Like it or not, you knew exactly what you were going to get from each interaction – enough rules and regulations to weight down and sink a battleship. Why should the court system be any different? "Welcome to the government where nothing is ever fast."As part of that adoption process, Aria could choose to change her last name. If the conversation they were having now was any indication, she wasn't ready to make that switch, but Aria was old enough to make that decision for herself. He would respect whatever choice she made. "It's up to you, Aria. We're not going to pressure you. If you don't want to, you don't have to."Taking a sip of coffee, Evan's eyes danced mischievously. The coffee beginning to wake him up, he wasn't too tired to poke fun at her admission. He was a dad – it was expected. "I'm sure you would have – in a few hours," he teased. Either way, he'd found Aria stuck on the counter, unwilling to move from that spot, so there was still some tenderness or pain. Evan nodded, agreeing to her request. When it came down to it, Aria knew herself best – and how bad the pain was. "You don't have to take your medication, but at least take some Tylenol to help with the soreness."Evan normally couldn't be persuaded so easily, but it wasn't the puppy dog eyes that did him in. All but restricted to bed for the past two weeks, Aria must be going stir crazy. Her late-night misadventure was proof enough of that. "We can get ice cream afterward, Evan relented with a chuckle."Aria brought up a good point, however. In the next couple of weeks, as she continued progressing in her recovery, Evan and Vanessa would need to finalize which private school to send her to. Somewhere she wouldn't be singled out for having a Cross and a Whitmore as parents, but where teachers would give her the time and attention needed to excel in her studies. "Speaking of school, Vanessa and I need to get you enrolled."Aria Campbell[attr="class","evanright2"] |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] "Welcome to the government where nothing is ever fast."“If they go any slower, I’ll be eighteen by the time it’s finalized” Aria complained. Maybe it was a bit of an exaggeration, but Aria was ready for everything to be finalized. “I just don’t see why it has to take so long. You and Vanessa are perfectly capable of taking care of me” Aria nodded, relaxing as Evan told her it was okay that she didn’t change her last name. “Thanks. I just don’t think I’m ready to give up the Campbell last name yet. It’s one of the only things I have that connects me to my parents still, you know.” It wasn’t the only thing that Aria had left of her parents. She still had a few photos, plenty of memories, and her necklace. However, Aria still felt like she needed to keep it in order to remain close to her parents. "I'm sure you would have – in a few hours,”“Evan,” Aria whined, though she was smiling. “At least give me some credit. I would’ve gotten down in ten minutes. Fifteen at the most.” Aria knew she would’ve struggled getting down if Evan hadn’t helped. However, the sixteen year old would’ve done it eventually. She was stubborn, and as a result Aria most likely would have just jumped down and ignore whatever pain it caused her ribs. "You don't have to take your medication, but at least take some Tylenol to help with the soreness."Aria nodded, relieved that she wouldn’t have to take her pain medication. It meant that she wouldn’t fall back asleep within a few minutes. “I will” Hearing that they could get ice cream after the movie made Aria smile. She hadn’t expected that to happen. Aria figured they would’ve gone back to the house afterwards so she could rest more. The longer Aria could stay outside though, the better. She wanted to be in the city for as long as possible. “Thank you, Evan” "Speaking of school, Vanessa and I need to get you enrolled."School was something Aria hadn’t thought about in awhile. She had dropped out, and that had been it. Sure, people asked her about it but usually Aria told them that she had finished with school, and let them assume that she had somehow graduated early. It was better than the judgemental looks and comments she would get when people discovered that she had actually dropped out instead. Aria could try that same lie now, but it wouldn’t do any good.“You know that you don’t have to enroll me in school, right Evan?” Aria asked, though it was a weak argument. If it could even be called an argument. “I dropped out. Which means I would probably have to be tested to see what grade I actually fall under. It would be easier to keep me out of school” Aria pointed out. She was hoping it would work, but a part of the sixteen year old doubted that it would. There had been a time when Aria actually enjoyed school. Sure there were aspects of it that she hated and didn’t miss, but there was also parts of it that she enjoyed and really did miss. One of those things was band. Aria had been a band kid in school, and she missed it. “Besides, I don’t even know if I’d be able to handle school” Aria admitted. She had never been a fan of crowds or tight spaces, but Aria had been able to tolerate it. Ever since the explosion at the precinct though, that had changed. Small spaces freaked Aria out. She couldn’t even sleep in her bedroom unless her door was open. Having the door closed caused Aria to inwardly panic. She couldn’t even imagine what it would be like at school, in a classroom, where the door wouldn’t be open. [attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Evan stifled his first laugh. Aria's low estimation of government about summed up his own feelings. Exaggerations of that magnitude might even turn out to be correct. However, that was the last thing he wanted Aria to worry about. "The court system just wants to make sure you're going to be well taken care of. I promise we'll get this made official." Aria's objection earned her that laugh. If Evan hadn't stumbled into the kitchen at this ungodly hour, Aria probably would have jumped down in about ten to fifteen minutes just to make doubly sure her dad didn't find her in such a compromising position. In some ways, Aria reminded him of someone else who lived in this house. "Oh, I'm sure. You're stubborn -- just like Vanessa. You wouldn't have waited a few more hours for me to wake up at a normal time to help you down."Evan smiled when Aria got excited over being able to stop for ice cream afterwards. Sometimes Evan forgot what it was like to be a kid -- to get such joy from the smaller things in life. But she also had a strong penchant for attempting to find technicalities. "It'll be fun. In return, no trying to find loopholes in everything the doctor told you. Understood?"One thing Evan hadn't anticipated was being a dad to a teenager this soon. Aleks, Izzy, and Eva were all babies -- there were so many firsts to be had with them. Aria, at times, almost made him feel like he was skipping ahead. There wasn't time to grow into parenting an older teen. He'd do the best he could, even if it meant muddling ahead blindly. So far, being a dad to Aria, even if the paperwork had yet to be made official was proving to be rewarding in all of the best ways. Late night talks over coffee certainly qualified. "The most important things -- the most rewarding things -- don't come easy," Evan pointed out. He didn't have a problem handing out all of the free wisdom he was supposed to dispense as a dad, but he sure came out sounding like a fortune cookie in the process. "Sometimes you need to work at it. Like you need to work towards getting a good education."Aria Campbell [attr="class","evanright2"] |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] “I hope it does” Aria mumbled. “I don’t want to be your and Vanessa’s foster kid forever, or even be removed from your care because the court decided to deny the adoption. I haven’t even been here that long, but this place is already home” Evan’s laugh caused Aria to smile a little, her fear momentarily gone. Her smile only grew as he mentioned that she was just like Vanessa, and Aria couldn’t help but straighten up a little. Even if he was only saying they could both be stubborn, Aria still felt happy and even a bit proud. She wanted to be compared to both Evan and Vanessa on occasion. “What can I say? I learned from the best” Aria said. She knew how stubborn Vanessa could be. Aria had witnessed it a few times even before she came to live with Vanessa and Evan. “Though you can be quite stubborn, yourself” “It wasn’t even that big of a loophole” Aria protested, though it definitely hadn’t been pleasant. Climbing onto the counter had definitely caused the pain in her ribs to briefly flare up, a painful reminder that she wasn’t healed yet. “But I guess I’ll stop searching for loopholes in everything” As soon as the statement came out of her mouth, an idea popped into Aria’s mind. Evan had said she couldn’t find loopholes in everything anymore. However, he didn’t flat out ban them. So in her eyes, Aria could technically test the limits some. She just couldn’t do it frequently. “I’ll only search for them like, once or twice a week then” One of the things that came with having a father figure again was advice, and it seemed Evan had a lot of it. Letting out a sigh, the sixteen year old looked up at the ceiling. “Where do you get all of this from? Is there like, some secret handbook filled with advice and dad jokes for fathers? And am I going to have to deal with this from now on?” she asked, though there was no annoyance in her voice. Aria may not admit it, but she found it to be rather comforting. She hadn’t realized how much she missed this sort of advice, and these moments. After the death of her biological parents, Aria moved around so much that she didn’t really get that advice. And then when she was placed with her previous family, Aria had already convinced herself that she was grown and didn’t need any advice. However, since she came to live with Evan and Vanessa, Aria’s opinion was slowly starting to change. She wanted the advice. “There’s no way I can get out of this, is there?” Aria asked, looking at Evan. She would probably continue to protest though. She didn’t want to go back to school, but Aria had also learned that once Evan and Vanessa had their minds set on something, they wouldn’t change. “Do I at least get a say in what school I go to?” Evan Cross [attr="class","Ariabox2"]all this time i was finding myself, and i didn't know i was lost [newclass=".Ariatitle"]margin-top:20px;width:361px;text-align:left;font-size:39px;font-family:Montserrat;color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Aria"]padding-top:8px;margin-top:-20px;width:350px;height:515px;background-image:url('https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/pQY48G.jpg');border-left:5px solid #A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox"]width:315px;padding:10px;padding-top:0px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-bottom:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox2"]margin-top:-5px;position:justify;width:315px;padding:10px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-top:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain"]margin-top:10px;padding:15px;width:305px;background-color:white;height:414px;color:black;overflow:auto;font-size:10px;opacity:0;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain:hover]opacity:.8;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain b]color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#4646FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariacred]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:2px;[/newclass] [Googlefont="Montserrat"]

[attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Evan could understand Aria's frustrated sentiments, but there was something to be said for learning how the real world worked. At the same time, Aria was still just a kid. These were worries she shouldn't ever have. But here they were -- an adult matter negatively impacting a younger teenager. All of his and Vanessa's combined resources and money would get this sorted out. "We don't plan on losing you, Aria. You're our daughter -- whether it's official through the court system or not."Someone had to be stubborn to keep Vanessa from doing reckless things. So, in that, Aria wasn't wrong. If the situation warranted it, Evan could put his foot down. That meant in the adoption process, if things got complicated, but it also meant now by sending her back to school. There was just one small matter to address first before putting an end to any thoughts of skipping out on a valuable education. After all, Evan, wording things the way he had, might have walked right into that one. Fortunately, he had the added benefit of being an adult and her parent. Those were both powerful cards to hold. "Just remember, kiddo, as your dad, my technicalities trump you technicalities." Admitting he was blindly stumbling through the dark when it came to parenting probably wouldn't go over very well, so Evan opted for the best option he could think of: humor. They were already so well acquainted. He cracked a small, lopsided smile. "There's a manual for everything these days."Evan gave a knowing smirk. At least Aria was catching on. Protesting this wouldn't get her much of anywhere. A certain quote came to mind just then. Like Aria had said, he could be quite stubborn himself. "Resistance is futile. I figure the three of us can sit down and find a school that best fits your needs."Aria Campbell[attr="class","evanright2"] |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Hearing Evan say that they weren’t going to lose her gave Aria some comfort. It was nice knowing she had parents again, whether the court approved of the adoption or not. Getting up from her seat, Aria walked around the table before wrapping her arms around Evan in a hug. “I’m looking forward to it” she said. “You know being my parents means that both you and Vanessa get to help me out with several situations, right?” Aria asked as she let go of Evan, though she wasn’t complaining. It was nice to have people looking out for her and to help her out. “I still haven’t learned how to drive, but Vanessa told me once that she would teach me. We just gotta wait until I’m better” Aria explained. She was looking forward to being able to drive around the city. “I mean I personally feel like I could start now, but that probably falls under ‘too strenuous’” Driving wasn’t the only thing on Aria’s mind though. There were other situations too, and if Aria was going back to school then that meant she was going to make friends and start doing extracurriculars again. Maybe she would even fall in love. “And if I’m going back to school, I get to meet people. Who knows, maybe I’ll even meet a guy that’ll ask me out on a date” A part of Aria was only bringing up dating to see how Evan would react to the idea, but the other part was curious to see if the possibility of guys and dating would get Evan to change his mind about school. She knew the likelihood of Evan changing his mind would be unlikely, but it didn’t mean that Aria wouldn’t try. "Just remember, kiddo, as your dad, my technicalities trump you technicalities."Aria opened her mouth to protest, but she couldn’t think of a good comeback. Evan had a point in the fact that he was her dad now and so he would get final say in things. Closing her mouth, Aria opted for pouting instead. “Evan” she whined. “My technicalities aren’t even that serious. Can’t you let them slide every once and a while?” Hearing Evan say that there was a manual for everything caused Aria to laugh a little. “Are you admitting to reading some sort of parenting book or pamphlet then?” she asked, though Aria was only messing with him. “I’m not too picky about schools” Aria admitted. “I would prefer not to go, but you and Vanessa have already out voted me on that one. As long as it’s not a boarding school, I’m fine with pretty much anything. Before I dropped out, I just went to whatever public school was in my district” Evan Cross [attr="class","Ariabox2"]all this time i was finding myself, and i didn't know i was lost [newclass=".Ariatitle"]margin-top:20px;width:361px;text-align:left;font-size:39px;font-family:Montserrat;color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Aria"]padding-top:8px;margin-top:-20px;width:350px;height:515px;background-image:url('https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/pQY48G.jpg');border-left:5px solid #A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox"]width:315px;padding:10px;padding-top:0px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-bottom:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox2"]margin-top:-5px;position:justify;width:315px;padding:10px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-top:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain"]margin-top:10px;padding:15px;width:305px;background-color:white;height:414px;color:black;overflow:auto;font-size:10px;opacity:0;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain:hover]opacity:.8;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain b]color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#4646FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariacred]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:2px;[/newclass] [Googlefont="Montserrat"]

[attr="class","evannah"] [attr="class","evanleft"] [attr="class","evanleft2"] | [attr="class","evanright"] Evan had become rather attached to Aria since the hospital. He didn't want to lose the teen as a daughter any more than she wanted to be torn away from her newfound parents. He found himself chuckling at the observation. "You know I used to be a kid? Even have two older sisters, Alex and Mikaela. Our parents helped us when we needed it most. I'll do the same for you."So would Vanessa. Evan knew how protective his wife was of Aria. It even sounded like the two of them had started making some plans together. He smiled at the news. "If Vanessa promised to teach you to drive, she'll show you just that when you're up to it."Aria seemed to be making plans beyond that though, including for her new school. Evan raised an eyebrow. He would have preferred her to be focused on her academic studies and less on cute boys, but he might be able to persuade her to concentrate on classes. "You might. Of course, I'll have to thoroughly vet him with extensive background checks. I'll also need to have the talk with him, if he passes those. You know, all the typical dad stuff."Neither Evan or Vanessa intended to send Aria to a boarding school. Family meant too much to them – they wanted their children in close proximity. They weren't about to become the type of parents that kicked their children out of the house and sent them packing. "You'll go to a private school," he assured Aria. Her pouting wouldn't convince him to change his mind – either about dating or technicalities. Evan just flashed her an amused smile instead. "Maybe," he teased. "You never know."If Aria was going to tease him back about parenting handbooks, he'd just have to keep playing that game back with her. Maybe he was better with teens than he gave himself credit for. "I don't think I actually said that. Just that there are manuals for that sort of thing. Remember, kiddo, technicalities."Aria Campbell[attr="class","evanright2"] |

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] “You being a kid must feel like a lifetime ago” Aria teased. She had to poke fun at Evan here and there, even if he technically wasn’t that old. There was also the mention of Evan’s sisters, which would make them Aria’s aunts. Both of her biological parents had been only siblings, so she didn’t have any aunts or uncles. Her grandparents had also passed away before Aria was born, or even too young to really remember them. She had a few memories of them, but there wasn’t much. All of this just kept proving how different the sixteen year old’s life was going to be now. She had siblings now, and an extended family. “Both of my parents were only children, and my grandparents passed when I was young. And I was an only child too. So I never got to really experience what it was like to have extended family and siblings” Shaking her head, Aria couldn’t help but smile a little. “And look at it now. I have you and Vanessa, and my little siblings that I get to play ‘protective big sister’ for. Not to mention I have aunts now and grandparents again. It’s a big family” “Trust me, I’m ready to start driving” Aria said. “I’m sixteen and still don’t have my permit. Almost every other kid my age can drive, so it feels like I’m missing out on it” It wasn’t exactly Aria’s fault though. Being in the system, she didn’t exactly have time to learn how to drive. And while some families would be more than happy to teach a teenager how to drive, there were others that didn’t want to. Aria couldn’t help but snort at Evan’s response about guys. Leave it to him to already be acting like an overprotective dad. “Knowing you, even when the guy passes the background checks and you have the talk with them, they still won’t be good enough for me in your eyes.” she pointed out. “Speaking of background checks, don’t you think that’s a little overboard? Most dad’s just threaten the guy a little. The whole ‘I know where to hide a body’ thing, ya know?” Aria asked. “Couldn’t you go easy on them? It’s not like I have the best track record either” "I don't think I actually said that. Just that there are manuals for that sort of thing. Remember, kiddo, technicalities."“Pretty sure that implies that you have at the very least, skimmed through them” Aria teased, snickering. “Wait until I post about this on my social media accounts. ‘Just had a conversation with the CEO of Cross Consolidated. I can confirm that he reads parenting manuals’” As much as Aria was joking about it, she wouldn’t actually post anything like that online. Still, it didn’t mean that she wouldn’t poke fun at Evan about it. If she was going to be his kid, she would have to mess with him here and there. She was quiet for a bit after that. It felt weird being able to say that she was someone’s daughter again, but at the same time it was comforting and nice. It felt good having parents around again and to have these little moments again, even if they did happen late at night. That was still something that bugged Aria though. It had been two weeks since she was released from the hospital and she was still having trouble with nightmares and sleeping through the night. “Evan, do the nightmares ever stop? It’s been a few weeks and sometimes it feels like I’m still in the police precinct after the explosion.” “I can’t even keep my bedroom door closed without panicking, and I’ve never been like that. I used to be able to keep my door closed all the time without a problem before the explosion.” Evan Cross [attr="class","Ariabox2"]all this time i was finding myself, and i didn't know i was lost [newclass=".Ariatitle"]margin-top:20px;width:361px;text-align:left;font-size:39px;font-family:Montserrat;color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Aria"]padding-top:8px;margin-top:-20px;width:350px;height:515px;background-image:url('https://cdn.nickpic.host/images/pQY48G.jpg');border-left:5px solid #A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox"]width:315px;padding:10px;padding-top:0px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-bottom:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariabox2"]margin-top:-5px;position:justify;width:315px;padding:10px;font-family:montserrat;color:#9B988E;font-size:9px;border-top:1px solid white;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain"]margin-top:10px;padding:15px;width:305px;background-color:white;height:414px;color:black;overflow:auto;font-size:10px;opacity:0;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=".Ariamain:hover]opacity:.8;-webkit-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -moz-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -ms-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; -o-transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s; transition:height .5s ease, opacity 1.5s ease, overflow 1s ease .5s;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain b]color:#A346FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariamain::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#4646FF;[/newclass] [newclass=.Ariacred]font-size:8px;letter-spacing:2px;[/newclass] [Googlefont="Montserrat"]
