[attr="class","Bensonner"] [attr="class","Bensonner1"] [attr="class","Bensonback"] [attr="class","Bensonnert"]Olivia had just gotten Noah to sleep. She sat down in the living room with a glass of wine in her hand. She was expecting Tony at some point and she'd told him to text her when he got there so they didn't wake up Noah. She'd had a long day at work and had spent some time playing with her son before she'd gotten him in bed. Sighing, she twisted her wine cup in her hand before pouring in some of the Nero D'Avola. After her mother's death, Tony leaving, the promotions at work, Lewis, and a relationship with a husband gone sour... the wine was a habit. Trust had never been easy for Liv but a broken marriage hadn't helped it one bit. The drinking got worse after. Ed had been doing so well in making sure she didn't drink too much and now she was going backwards. The cold liquid ran down her throat. Hoping that one by one it could wash away all the painful memories. Much to her dismay they never did go away. Running into Tony at work did no favors for everything that had happened. Judgment for her past decisions wasn't what she needed. Taking another sip of her wine, she glanced down at the city below. Chicago was supposed to have been a new start. That hadn't worked out so well. Despite everything, part of her still loved Ed. But that wasn't a conversation she should be having with anyone, let alone Tony when he came here so she started to try and shift gears thing about something else. But then it always went back to New York or Lewis or any other number of things. Another sip of wine. Tony had never expected to bump into Olivia at work; no Chicago was supposed to be far enough away from New York to be safe from all of that. Safe from the world he had left behind because he could no longer face it since losing his daughter and by default his wife. Even when he stood in Liv’s office, even when he kissed her it was like the taste of another life. A life that might have been if he had been anywhere near strong enough to stay. Instead he had taken off thinking it was the best thing he could do for everyone involved.
He knew he had tried to mellow over the years that had gone by, mellow was the wrong word but he was able now not to just want to punch someone. He had an ounce of self restraint left when he was given half the option. Seeing his partner having worked her way up to Chief, he always knew she was destined for great things. He never thought he would be working in the same PD though, that was a new set of thinking for him as he approached her place. Once he was outside Tony did as he had been asked to.
He sent the message to say he was there. ‘Hey, just outside. You going to let me in?’ The message was simple enough and in his usual style rather than the sarcastic comments he could have made. If in doubt he could have always rolled with the ‘you’ve got a gift’ sort of text. No keep it strictly normal he thought as he was dressed in his usual black suit pants, a blue shirt and a black jacket. Nothing too fancy even if he was trying to make a good impression, Liv knew him probably better than anyone else did which lent itself to a familiarity he felt. He still had with him a box of chocolates from the fancy place on fifth and an I love Chicago mug that he felt she might not have yet.

[attr="class","Bensonner"] [attr="class","Bensonner1"] [attr="class","Bensonback"] [attr="class","Bensonnert"]Olivia read his text and went over to open the door. Pulling the door open she leaned on the wall. It looked like she hadn’t slept in a week (though she had) and she was clearly not looking like she was going anywhere. “Did knocking become too old fashioned?” She teased, though the look in her eyes it was easy to tell she had probably a bit too much to drink. Liv knew that Tony knew about her mother’s drinking problems years ago. She’d started down that same road some years later and now here she was. The woman everyone saw at work, that was not the woman at night when the door closed and Noah was in bed. This was all walls down and sinking into herself. The front could only go on for so long before she had to fall back into the way she didn’t want things to be. Reaching out her hand, she pulled him into her living room and closed the door. The small two bedroom apartment was all she and Noah really needed. The kitchen and living room were connected. Moving off she started picking up a few of the toys she saw laying in the corner. Tossing the few into the toy box she could feel the pressure of everything still on her. There was definitely not enough alcohol; but she’d gone through most of the bottle that night. There was no hiding the fact she’d been drinking too much from Tony. [attr="class","Bensonner2"] [attr="class","Bensonnerlyric"]I have been stabbed and I have been assaulted My gun didn’t save me

Tony smiled seeing the door open and Liv stood there leaning against the wall. It hardly took long to see that she looked like she had no sleep and clearly was far from dressed for a night out. “Of course, who knocks when you can text a person now.” He said smirking, “Get with the century chief.” It then took a moment to register that look in her eyes, the look that said yes, I may have had a little bit too much or a lot too much.
Her mother had drinking problems, his own ex wife had killed their daughter while drinking, drinking was far from a good thing and to see Liv starting down that road. No, Tony would do all he could to stop that from happening. He had been sober for years now, ever taking a drink more than a club soda because alcohol had caused him so much loss already. Tony followed Liv as she pulled him into the living room as he stood there and watched her pick up a few toys.
“Liv why don’t you come and sit down with me for a while.” He said deciding to approach the subject delicately. “It’s been a long day and I can help you clean up later.” He offered as he motioned to her sofa as he sat down on it and shuffled until he was comfortable. This was far from the conversation he wanted to have with her, the fifty ways it could go wrong and the ten other on top of that. “You look like you could use someone to talk to.” He offered trying to get her to talk would be something but she seemed like she needed to talk about whatever it was that was turning her to a bottle.

[attr="class","Bensonner"] [attr="class","Bensonner1"] [attr="class","Bensonback"] [attr="class","Bensonnert"] Olivia was only up on technology because she had to be. It wasn’t like she was in the same century. Texting wasn’t really her cup of tea. She knew how to do it and sometimes at work she had to do it in order to get things done but she was at home on her time and she didn’t want to be a slave to her cellphone. There were better things to be doing, like enjoying time with Noah before he’d gone to sleep. When told to come and sit down, Olivia continued to pick up. “It’s fine, it’s just a few toys.” She noted. It wasn’t like anyone else would do her job for her. She sighed as she lifted the toys into the toy bin. Olivia took care that the toys weren’t making noises or any loud bangs into the toy box as she did so. There was no need to wake Noah. Talk? Liv didn’t talk really. Not like she’d done in her early years. The job hardened people and made them bottle up. Something she was certain Tony knew all too well. She sighed and shook her head a little. “I’m alright.” She replied as she worked her way off her knees and headed over to join him on the couch. Now that the room was clean she could plop down beside him and not have that lingering feeling that she’d not gotten everything finished. ∵ Anthony Romano ∵ It helps to be able to post when one doesn't lose the thread... Tony usually avoided his phone as it meant people, other than work he was pretty much a leave it and run sort of technophobe that wanted as little to do with things as possible. He watched Olivia picking up, he wanted to go and help but figured it was better to just sit and let her feel that she had done it herself before he got involved. It was the exact reason he wanted her to sit down, to just stop and think about things as a whole because everything was off. The person he knew in New York was far from the person he was seeing in Chicago.
“You’re not alright; you might be able to fool CPD but not me.” Tony explained, did she really want all the reasons for that? He had seen firsthand what drinking could do to someone, he had missed it with his wife and he was far wiser now. It had taken his family, his wife and daughter and seeing Liv like that. Tony was hardly going to let her go down the same route as her mother, he knew about that and he wanted to bring her back from the edge he could see.
“So now you’re off your feet, tell me what’s been going on with you since I went away?” He asked trying to leave the questioned as broad as he could. He reached out his arms to her wanting to at least try and repair any damage he had done or might be about to. It was tough to dislike someone if they were hugging you or at least it was a tried and tested reasonable assumption. “And no hiding things because I can make calls and check it out all for myself. I’d rather hear it from you, the most reliable person I know.” He offered, not that he doubted Liv but he would rather not have to make a call to New York to find out what had happened to lead her to Chicago. He preferred the firsthand account.
