Roxanne had been forced off shift to let another truck company take over the scene. Everyone that could be saved, had been. It was not just a clean up and search operation, a part of the works he hated. She had no clue how many hours it was after the initial explosion, she had managed to lose track of time which was great on the day because work was everything. After the work stopped, rather she got kicked out to get some rest and a hot meal the reality of it all set back in again. The twenty first was in pieces, her sister was around there working to help people and all she could think of was what if Michael had been there.
She was still unsure how many friends, cops, families had been affected but the count of people. No she could barely think about how many people had been lost to it that day. Roxi had tried to trace her sister in the chaos, she caught various people that said they had seen her around and one or two that said she was working on the living, a nice change of pace she guessed. How Trinity would react was beyond her though it bought her enough time to get home, shower, change and come right back to the site.
It was then she managed to get herself into a twist, Roxi had never been the quiet one. No she was loud, Michael was middle ground and Trinity was the reserved one of the group. They missed their balance, the triplet that made it all work and coming back to see the twenty first after the dust settled. The flashing light, the organized chaos of it all no panic was set in again. No one she managed to catch had seen Trinity for a while, to Roxi that meant she was gone too but as a triplet she would have known. Felt something yet she had left to get cleaned up, a mistake she now regretted as she reached for her phone.
Trying Trinity the network was busy, phone dead, hell she could barely register the automated voice on the end of the line as she reached out to the only family she knew. Derek, he used to be a cop until he opened the bar but what if he was in there visiting someone. Her heart was leaping into her mouth as she hit her phone several times, her hand shaking as she sent of a text before calling. ‘At the 21st, where are you? Are you okay? Trinity is lost.’ It hardly took much thought to send it, though the moment she did she decided to follow it up with a call as she tried to get past the tape exclusion zone.
No fire department issue uniform suddenly meant no admittance as she tried to struggle with a chief from another house. Where was Boden when you needed him? The truck was still there, so maybe the fire-fighters had gone back to get a change of clothes but the gear was there. Roxanne slammed the phone to her ear hearing it ring, “Derek, Derek, Derek.” She chanted not sure if he was there or not, “Answer the damn phone!” She added still not taking a breath as she kept muttering his name.
Family, he had to answer, he had to be there because she was unable to find her sister. Michael was gone, Trinity had to be there somewhere and if Derek was inside, tape and people would never stop her going back.
