[attr="class","Jessner"] [attr="class","Jessner1"] [attr="class","Jessback"] [attr="class","Jessnert"]Since the restaurant, Jessica had still been uncertain about Don but she agreed to letting him be her bodyguard. Eyal could spin it anyway that he wanted to but Jess knew the truth. She wasn’t a kid and she was rather smart. Just because she didn’t have much to say much of the time, didn’t mean that she wasn’t quick to pick up on things. She wished Eyal wouldn’t lie to her about things. It was weighing on her mind, almost as much as the issues she had with her brother making her feel terrible about her marriage. Men were complicated. Jessica wandered into the cafe and got herself a coffee sitting at the table. She picked a corner out of the way of everything where she could see what was going on. Jess spun her hand around the top of her cup. She was off from work today but she needed to get out of the house in order to just clear her mind. What would her dad do? It was a question she asked herself often. No, she didn’t want to think about that. Her life was a mess, and everyone she reached out to was critical of her. It was getting old. Jessica took out her phone and set it on the table. The screen was locked and dark. There was nothing showing on it but she stared at it. After a moment she grabbed it to text Eyal where she was and what she was doing. It was better if he didn’t worry about her. ∵ @don ∵ [attr="class","Jessner2"] [attr="class","Jessnerlyric"]I learned from you I do not crumble

[googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] THE ONLY EASY DAY was yesterday The restaurant had showed Don that it wasnt going to be a quiet nine to five job, no he still had a job to do and it wasnt just protecting a little princess that had cash. Those kind of jobs drove him nuts but this one seemed a bit more real to him. The restaurant had been difficult, two languages and a client that didnt exactly seem thrilled by the idea of someone tagging along with her where ever she went to. He couldnt exactly say he’d be much of a fan of it either but then he didnt have an issue with people wanting him dead.
Not that he much knew of anyway. Still following Jess into the cafe and watching her pick a table, Don dutifully joined her. Making sure to angle his seat so he could see the comings and goings in the cafe while keeping an eye on Jess. Maybe she didnt need anyone to look after her, he could see that much but an extra set of eyes never hurt. It made sense though he was still happily in the dark about why, it didnt pay to know the why in a case like this.
To him Jess didnt seem like herself as he watched her with her phone, her fingers around the top of the coffee. “I don’t mean to get into your business.” Don said knowing how people could be but if he could lend an ear then he might as well. “But is everything okay? You don’t seem like yourself today.” Don could see as much but it all depended on if Jess wanted to talk. Don didnt have his own kids or really a girlfriend or wife so sure he was trying to look out for Jess because for being so young. There seemed to be a lot weighing on her which didnt sit right with him.

[attr="class","Jessner"] [attr="class","Jessner1"] [attr="class","Jessback"] [attr="class","Jessnert"]Jess had been taking things hard since she decided to stop talking to her brother. Regretting having reached out to him, regretting having told him the truth. Maybe they would have both been happier without it. There was that, and then there was the whole her having not even told him about the wedding. Not because she was ashamed of her marriage but because JJ just didn't know when enough was enough. Jess didn't really feel like talking to her parents about it, because well her dad could be a little over protective too at times. Though her dad had taught her to handle her own issues. Hearing Don, Jess looked up from her phone and shoved it in her pocket. “No, but you can't change people's attitudes. Just regretting decisions I made so I'm not made to feel like I'm going to be made to feel like I should regret decisions that make me perfectly happy. I know that's out of context but that's the basic gist of it all." No she wasn't really comfortable telling Don the reality of everything; but she didn't want to lie either. “I'm an adult and I just feel like I should be treated as such.” yeah there was that too, JJ thinking she was 5 and needing someone to hold her hand when she crossed the street. Jess was independent and for someone to make her feel like that was taken from her? It didn't bode well. She had run from the security detail that her own company had sent for her while she was recovering. She was pretty sure the people that had to report back to Cross were still scratching their heads. Jess was completely in the dark. The men who had shown up had looked like Cross to her. So maybe she was unintentionally kidnapped by her then boyfriend before marrying him in Vegas but that's what happened. “I'm the only child of a Marine and a politician. I've lived in a bubble but dad always taught me to take care of myself and have people's backs. Mom was always too busy in Washington to bother to look my way unless I was convenient. Dad worked his butt off to make sure I had everything I needed. I got my hopes up over stupid stuff recently. It's not anyone's fault but mine.” Oh yes, she clearly blamed herself in this entire JJ mess. “It's complicated and I don't need to be dragging anyone else into it, I've sat down with my husband about the whole thing and now he's worried about my mental health around certain people. Though I can't blame him, he's just looking out.” Jess was talking without realizing she was talking. Though when she mentioned Eyal was looking out for her it was easy to tell that her marriage was not the issue. This was why she wanted someone she could trust and confide in watching over her, even if it was a body guard she wanted someone she could go to for advice. Sure there was always Eyal but friends weren't really a bad thing were they? Evan always listened too when she needed to talk but they had a professional working friendship before anything else. Not that it stopped her from seeing her boss like a brother. ∵ @don ∵ [attr="class","Jessner2"] [attr="class","Jessnerlyric"]I learned from you I do not crumble

[googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] THE ONLY EASY DAY was yesterday Don sat there and listened to Jess talk, maybe that was what she was short of in life. Someone to just listen to her, it wasnt that he didnt think she had a whole line of people to do that for her but then again. Eyal didnt seem like the overly listening type if he didnt like what was being discussed. “Context or not, you only feel what you want to feel. People can’t tell you how to feel and if they want to make you feel bad about something, it’s their issue not yours. I have to say, most peoples attitudes can be broken, given the right incentives and time.” Don added grinning a little, lock someone in a room for long enough and sure you could drastically change someone’s mind. It was the pesky part when they ran to the police after that usually did a person in.
Don nodded to Jess, sure being treated like an adult was great but all he had to do was set foot back in the restaurant or home and he was a three year old again. Wash your hands, make sure you pick that up, did you eat today. He wondered if it was just parents though outside of that, being an adult wasnt all that fun at times either. It wasnt that he didnt like his own space, being responsible but then it wasnt like he enjoyed making adult life choices either. Beyond what am I having for tea either.
Don felt sorry for Jess when she laid out the broad strokes of her life, the dad seemed like the better guy in all of this and the other. In his eyes it shouldn’t be what a mother did but then being a parent, it wasnt something there was a test for to make sure you were adequate for the job. Don quircked his brow at Jess when she said it was her fault, yeah he pretty much doubted that was the case. No one got that worked up over something that was their fault. “Well first thing first, I’m paid to worry about you, so kinda yeah I’m not being dragged in but I can choose if I am involved or not. Second thing, it’s only as complicated as you make it. Third thing, I’ve ears to listen to whatever it is that bugging you no matter how complicated it is.” Don added, a little more relaxed than their first meeting.
“Now I guess I’m not all that convinced that whatever this is, is your fault. Mental health wise, sure you discussed it with your husband but how do you feel about it? Are these certain people causing you that much of an issue?” Don asked her not really sure what was going on in the situation but then again, driver, bodyguard, ears, it wasnt like he would sit by and do nothing if he knew what was going on. Jess was just a kid in his eyes, sure he found her marriage set up a little strange but then she wasnt the first one to marry an older guy. He didnt really want to know much about that but the fact Jess was just a kid to him. Yeah he wasnt about to let anything happen to her and it was part of his job to help her.
“So we’ve got all day here. Why don’t you start from the beginning and we can see if things can be worked out.” Don offered smiling, “If not I can always go and punch whoever is bothering you if it cant be sorted out so really, you win either way.” He joked knowing that maybe he would or maybe he’d just have a nice little ‘friendly’ chat with the people who were bothering her. Off the books just in case anything got around. It was Chicago so most things did.

[attr="class","Jessner"] [attr="class","Jessner1"] [attr="class","Jessback"] [attr="class","Jessnert"]Yeah, breaking JJ's all mightier than thou attitude would take nothing short of a miracle. Eyal would listen to Jess when she spoke, but sometimes it lead to more issues than just keeping her mouth shut about some things. She already knew how Eyal felt about JJ being around. Though she knew what he'd meant, she'd seen her dad break people in interrogation without breaking any legal rules and Gibbs made it seem like it was much easier than most people would imagine. Paid to worry, about her safety maybe. This guy had made it abundantly clear he wasn't exactly the friend type. “Trust me, you will know when you are involved. A certain someone will make it abundantly clear that I am no longer capable of my own decisions.” She rolled her eyes. “Secondly, family is always complicated. Third, I don't really want to explain.” She would be here all day. “It's not exactly the place to discuss in detail.” Too many ears that could possibly overhear and her brother worked for a huge tech giant with ears all over the city. “Yes, it's that much of an issue. And yes it is my fault, that has also been made clear.” She sounded a bit bitter about the whole being her fault thing. Jessica was a young adult, and her older brother was likely the child in all of this. Then Don said they had all day. “As I said, there are too many ears here to explain. I'm telling you what I've already told you.. just in case this face decides to show his face. He knows I frequent this coffee shop.” Yeah because he'd kept tabs on her like a hawk. Jessica shrugged. “Curiosity killed the cat.” Well Jess' curiosity could be a bit of a learning curve for some. Perhaps some of why trouble found her so easily. ∵ @don, ∵ [attr="class","Jessner2"] [attr="class","Jessnerlyric"]I learned from you I do not crumble

[googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] THE ONLY EASY DAY was yesterday Bodyguard and therapist, maybe his job description needed to be changed or he needed to go see his boss Harrison to ask what the hell kind of job it was he had been sent to. Then again Jess seemed normal, as far as people went she seemed like the good kind. “Yeah I got that feeling but you know, it doesn’t really matter what I get involved in because it’s what you’re involved in that bothers me.” Don said, given that her brother seemed to be the issue here it was a wonder her husband hadn’t sorted it out already. He seemed like the type that would just ‘fix’ the issue.
“Okay, I get it but second complicated is a specialty. Half Irish, half Italian. Complicated is a way of life.” Don said grinning at little, “And you’re right but when you want to, I’ve ears and my lips dont tell a soul what goes on. Kinda comes with the job description to be honest.” If the walls had ears for some of the things he’d heard but then again no one really noticed the help most days. It was a good position to be in until people started to argue and it got messy. Then there was the inevitable ‘who’s side are you on’ conversation when he would be called dense and stupid because he couldnt pick a side.
He could listen and it was something he was willing to do. After all Jess was just a kid really and everyone needed someone to talk to now and again. “Your fault, well I doubt it but you know. Being the older sibling, I get blamed for a lot so I understand being responsible for crap you didnt do.” He added not sure if that helped but then the bitter tone there he couldnt help but try and say something to help. “Thanks for the heads up, I’ll make sure his face doesn’t come anywhere near you if you want. I can soon make this his least favourite coffee shop in the state.” Don added figuring it was all just in a days work.
“Curiosity helps me. You of all people should know that, figure out the issues and anticipate the problems.” Don said smiling, “Unless you want to give me the entire download in the car but you know. Like I said, I’m here to listen and help. A little like your invisible new best friend.” He added, sure more like shadow and stalker rolled into one by way of a job.
