Lara was at her desk massaging her temples with her fingertips as she looked out over the bullpen with sagging eyelids.
"Ugh." She groaned quietly. She was the most hungover she'd ever been and she felt sick and groggy. She would have asked herself how much she had drank last night, but she couldn't even remember any of last night. Which was an indicator in itself how much she must have had. She had been drinking more and more since she'd lost her family in the crash, but she'd never drunk enough to lose a night. She'd lost parts of an evening here and there but never an entire night. She would have been bothered about it if she had stopped to think about it, but she wasn't going to thinkg about it and just pushed the thought to the back of her pounding head. She put her reading glasses on and opened the file in front of her, resting her elbow on the desk and holding her forehead with her hand. She'd tell herself never again but she knew that wouldn't be true. She wouldn't rush to get that blind drunk ever again, but it wasn't likely she'd turn tea-total anytime soon. Not while she was carrying so much pain inside. "You look like you had fun last night?" Her colleague teased as he dumped another case on her desk. Lara looked up at him from the top of her eyes, a less than amused expression on her face, "You want some coffee?" He asked sympathetically. "A bullet would be nice, but I'll take coffee if that's all I can get." She replied, swapping out the old folder for the new one in front of her. A few minutes later her colleague set a mug of coffee in front of her, then held out a note, " Here this is for you as well. Some guy wants you to call him.""Guy? What guy?" Lara asked. "I don't know. You find yourself a boyfriend last night?" He quipped. "Haha very funny." She retorted dryly. "Wow, wrong crowd this morning." He raising his hand in surrender before he made his retreat back to his own desk. Lara looked at the name and number on the note, she didn't know who 'Fin' was or why he wanted her to call him. It couldn't be anything to do with a case because she didn't have any cases until her colleague had put one in front of her a few minutes ago, so it could wait. She'd call the guy later. Little did she remember she had wracked up a gambling debt with a loan shark last night in her drunken stupor and had then left without remembering to pay the tab. Not that Lara even gambled! She was just traveling a course of self destruction and what better way was there of landing yourself in hot water than by falling into debt with a loan shark and not even remembering? Tag: @fin. |

Fin had to cancel a night in with Amanda to be out working the casinos. The funny thing about work, if he was called to do it he had to go. Not just because he had a job but because he had a strange way of enjoying his work. He had long ago paid of his family’s debt; Amanda’s was long gone too but despite it all. It was the only job Fin knew he had confidence in. Yes he had been an army medic, a good one at that but now given he had a new line of work.
One that paid a lot better than any paramedic job could, that of a nurse or even a doctor though he could never really do that job. No he had lived for an adrenaline rush and a loan shark provided all of the above without the strict rules and regulations to adhere to. Fin however had taken the casino’s last night, there was a flurry of small time loans, a few hundred dollars here and there that he knew with couple of weeks would turn into a four figure sum.
Then there was one loan that stood out above all the rest, it was significant enough that he even had to make sure he had that amount to hand. A detective no less though Chicago’s finest were no strangers to his books. If he had to guess he had about fifteen or more officers on his debt role all to vairying degrees, some took money from a bust and wanted to put it back. Others just needed it for a fix or a drink, some for marriage payments or ten other reasons he had been given at the time.
The one he met last night though, she was different and barely seemed bothered about the loan. A first time customer that he knew of she there was barely a bat of an eye lid though now the night had long gone and he needed to collect. Fin was well aware how this went, he could hear the sob story in his head the minute he left a message. Oh if that was the only way he went about business he would never see his money again. No Fin was hardly the call and let it be as he made his way into the precinct.
He knew better than to bring weapon but then who needed one, he was military trained. He fought and loved to fight so really, any object was his friend when it came to that as he asked for Lara. The helpful desk sergeant nodded and asked for him to follow her. He might have alluded that it was for a case and he might have been asked to come there but then if someone was disregarding his call, then he had to make a special effort.
Fin heard the woman say wait by the door and he did just that, watching as the sergeant went to Lara to tell her he was there. There was no funny business within the precinct, the last place he needed to be was in jail though he had her details and a signature for the payment made. It might not be a legal document to the standard of a lawyer but an IOU was exactly that.

Lara looked up as the desk sergeant came over to her and she sighed when she was told there was some outside who wanted to talk to her. She had no idea who it was who wanted to speak to her or what it was they wanted to speak to her about, but if they'd asked for her by name she had to go see them and find out. Lara took off her glasses and stood up. She ran her hands back over her hair attempting to tidy up the stray locks in effort to make herself look more presentable. Though her shirt was un-ironed and her hair tended to have stray locks on the best of days, so her efforts made little difference in her current morning after condition. At least the coffee had kicked in enough to wake her up a bit and put a touch of colour back in her face, though it did nothing for the bags under her eyes. Lara walked out the bullpen to see a the man waiting for her. His face didn't look familiar though, not even in a Deja vu kind of way. Despite the fact that she had met him last night. There was just no memory of it there. "Hey what's up?" She said strolling over to him casually, "I'm detective DunCroft, you wanted to see me?" She said as if to ask him what it was he wanted to see her about. "And you would be?" She added, asking him what his name was oh so very casually. Tag: @fin . |

Fin glanced over Lara as she walked out toward him, she seemed a little worse for wear but then again he had seen what she was putting away the night before so he was amazed she had even made it to work. Whatever coffee she was drinking it must have fixed a good nights worth of damage he thought wondering what she would think but then there seemed to be no recognition in her face. No hint of knowing or remembering who he was or why he was there.
She was either the world’s best actress or she had no idea why he was. For a moment Fin wondered if he had the right woman but no, sure as it was daylight Fin knew it was her. “Thank you for meeting me Detective DunCroft.” Fin said smiling at her trying to work out what was going on or if she thought by playing oblivious to it all he would disappear into the sunset and write of a debt that was far too substantial for him to just leave. "I'm Fin, thank you for taking the time out of your day to talk." He added smiling at her. No Fin had a job to do and despite the casual strolling over and asking why he was there in the first place. He had to get the money back somehow.
“And we met last night in the casino.” Fin said hoping that she would either drop the game or if it was right that she had drunk that much; remember at least some of the previous night. “We spoke about a sum of money that exchanged hands so you could play the tables there... I’m just here to remind you about our little agreement.” Fin said smiling sweetly at her; well there was no harm in being nice about it. It was one of his rules in life, ask nicely and then string people up by their toes and start breaking things.

Lara just forced a polite smile when Fin thanked her for taking the time. Truth was it was only because he had practically shown up at her desk, if he had waited for her to phone him he would have been waiting a few more hours until she had kicked her hangover enough that she didn't feel like freight train was running through her head. But her smile faded when he said they had met in a casino last night and she had a feeling where this was going. She didn't remember any of last night but she knew she had been drinking like a fish...a fact that would give any conman and his brother an opportunity to try a scam, given her connection to DunCroft industries and the money she had from it. Lara curled her lips inwards and looked at the ground as she shifted her weight on her feet. She lifted her head and looked at Fin, giving him a chance and hearing him out. “We spoke about a sum of money that exchanged hands so you could play the tables there... I’m just here to remind you about our little agreement.” And there it was. She looked at him and that sweet smile he was flashing and she wasn't buying it for a second. She might have been worse for wear but she hadn't come down in the last shower, did he really think she was that stupid and that he could con her so easily? "Look, Flynn was it? I didn't come down in the last shower, okay. You can waltz in here with your fancy suite and nicest smile and try it on, but it isn't gonna work." She told him with a groggy but mildly chipper tone, trying to match attitued..be it a little sarcastically. But honestly she still felt too rough to go full blown sarcastic-cheery even with the nip she'd put in her coffee this morning to take the edge off. Well they say the best cure for a hangover is to stay drunk! "I don't know what you're trying to pull here but I don't go to casinos. And even if I did I don't need to make 'little agreements' to fund it." She told him mater of fact. "So why don't you save us both the time and just leave now and we can both forget this ever happened." She said mirroring his smile back to him. She pointed back and forth between him and herself as she continued, "Coz trying this on a cop in a precinct isn't the smartest hustle. It's ballzy I give you that, but not the smartest." She finished before she turned around and simply walked away. Honestly some people will go to any lengths to try and get money when they know you have it in the bank. Tag: @fin . |

Fin could barely hide his own smile seeing that of the detectives disappear from sight. He almost felt like telling her that, yes this was indeed happening and there was little she could do to get herself out of it. He was trying to do things the polite way, go to her work and kindly remind her about the deal they had made however that would be the first way he tried things. Mainly because he was dating a cop too, try to be nice to those guys even though his normal ways were a little more... hurtful.
“It’s Fin detective.” He corrected her, Flynn he had no idea who that guy was unless she owed money to more than himself. If so then yes that was rough but it was hardly his fault, people did what they wanted to do and who was he to tell them no when his existence depended on doing what he did best. The groggy and mildly chipper tone, he would be surprised if she even remembered going out last night though he was sure the hangover would be a pretty good reminder of what she had done. At least for the alcohol intake of it.
Fin simply kept his smile; oh she was so sweet and innocent about how all of this worked for a detective. There was no walking away from a debt and Fin had long ago left his days of letting someone swap favours for cash, no the money was required to be paid back. It was a contract and he had proof of the contract in his pocket. Officially it would never stand in court but then court was likely not the place he wanted this to go, money could always be collected in other ways and Fin was an expert in those ways.
“Oh detective, I’m not the one trying it on here. I might give you the benefit of the doubt, innocent until proven guilty in the eyes of the law but I have a signed napkin with your name on it.” Fin said as he followed her and produced the red piece of tissue from his pocket with the black pen scrawl on it and the amount loaned next to it. Even the address of where she worked under it. “So are you telling me there’s more than one Detective DunCroft that works at the twenty first? If so please point her out because unlike you. I was sober last night and I have an excellent memory.” Fin added keeping his smile sweet.
“Now as ballzy as it is I am a smart guy and this is no hustle. If you need a refresher of your night then I am sure you can ask the casino for the footage that evening if you still doubt me.” Fin offered knowing it would be on camera somewhere there. “However I know you’re a smart cookie and I also know being a cop, you see how this works. There’s an easy way and then there’s the much less polite way and I’m sure you wouldn’t want your wonderful colleagues knowing just what you get up to on your own time. I mean if I took this to the chief as a concerned citizen I am sure there might be... repercussions.” Fin offered figuring that keeping it away from the bosses might be a good idea. After all he was just a guy who wanted his loan back from a night out.

Lara just blinked when he corrected it was Fin and not Flynn. Like it mattered to her anyway. Lara couldn't help but scoff a light laugh when Fin mentioned the eyes of the law. Really? This guy was gonna mention law to her right nowr? Pff, and did he really think she was gonna get sucked into his con and help him with it by hunting down some footage? If he did then he had another thing coming. She might have been crazy but she wasn't stupid. No if there was footage and IF she did owe him, then he could do the work and prove it. It was only when he mentioned he did have proof of the debt that she stopped in her tracks and turned back around to face him. What if she did owe him money? 'No' she thought. She wasn't the gambling type...but then she had been so drunk last night she couldn't remember ANY of it, what if she had gone to some kind of casino? She was on a path of self destruction if she knew that or not and gambling blind drunk, getting in with a loan shark, well that was a perfect way to get herself into the wrong kind of trouble. Seeing the red napkin she grabbed it and took a look. But seeing the writing on it she was as unconvinced as ever. The writing didn't match her normal handwriting, not to mention the signature didn't look like her's. It was somewhat squiggled and even trailed off with a line at the end like the pen had slipped...well because it had. "That is not not my handwriting. And that looks nothing like my signature." She told him plainly. Well it didn't look nothing like her signature, but it wouldn't hold up in court. Not that this debt would be collected through the legal system if Fin was who he said he was and not some con artist as she had first assumed. Though a part of her was starting to doubt her first assumption. "Anyone could have scribble it." Was her argument...Though maybe she was just playing with fire. But it was when he threatened her job with talk of the chief and 'concerned citizen' that she stopped finding this the least bit amusing or entertaining in any way. Lara shoved the napkin into his chest, her eyes meeting his sternly "And you want to get the hell out of this precinct now or we're gonna have a very big problem." She said coldly. More or less threateningly, before she removed her hand from his chest and walked away from him in a way that showed he shouldn't follow. Her job was the only thing Lara had to make herself get out of bed in the morning, and she didn't take kindly to Fin threatening it. Oh no if he went to the chief and got her fired, if she owed him of not, then she's have nothing left to lose and that could be a very bad thing for Fin. Besides how could he expect her to pay him what he claims she owes without having a job? Lara sat back down at her desk with a deep sigh. She closed her eyes and massaged the temples of her splitting head with her fingertips as she wondered why these guys always had to pick her. Or did he pick her? She debated the possibility of the debt in her head, but what was done was done. She had already practically toled Fin where to go, now she just had to wait and see what he would do next. It seemed like nothing would work on this woman at all, a mention of the law which he guessed she would be all too familiar with and all she could do was stand there. Fin was no con artist and he never asked for a penny more than what was owed, he liked to think he was the better of the loan sharks available in Chicago. His boss not so much but then that was why Fin did the ‘dirty work’ as it were. Fin hated to see people walk away, especially those who he just wanted to pay but Lara she was taking it to a whole new level.
Then again proof seemed to change her mind given she turned back to face him. At last there was some sense to be had in the world of law and order today. The plain talk just amused him, “Trust me Detective, you were hardly in any state to be signing anything that night but I remember you were insistent and needed the money. It’s your signature after you’ve drunk your body weight in alcohol.” Fin added deciding that trying to argue it was pointless but it was signed, maybe illegible but signed none the less.
Fin might have been better versed to let Lara go that night, to have said no but he helped run a business and the amount was hardly pocket change. “Yes anyone could have but I know it was you. Therein lies the difference.” Fin added smiling though the last thing he wanted to do was have to start messing with a cop. For one, she was a cop and the one thing he did know about them. You messed with one you had an entire army over you for the rest of your days, the second thing he knew. He was dating one of them so ruining that was hardly on his to do list for the day.
He chuckled feeling her shove the napkin into his chest, this was going to be interesting he thought for a moment hearing the colder tone she chose. Fin stayed silent watching the Lara walk away from him, everything about it suggested that he was about to be in big trouble but then what could he do. The debt was far more than he could write off and his legs were not going to be harmed over losing the money. No people needed to learn that paying up was the only way he went away, it was that or they were promptly dragged to his second favourite place in the world.
Fin rolled his eyes at the prospects as he decided that he could follow her for now. If he got thrown out, worst came to worst he could put his military training to use and try out stalking for a while. Fin held the napkin in his hand as he managed to walk and find her desk. “Now Detective that’s no way to treat a guy who just asked you to pay me back is it.” He announced not caring who could hear. It was ambiguous enough not to be connected to money just yet and obvious enough to Lara that it was the only thing he could be talking about.
“I thought all detectives were honest and fair but apparently... maybe not.” He said with an over exaggerated sigh. Yes Fin was enjoying the chase of it all but at the end of it, Fin knew she would need to pay it was just getting her to realise that. Even the fact she had taken the money in the first place.

Hearing him say about her drinking her bodyweight in alcohol and feeling the pounding in her head made her think for a moment that what he was claiming could be true. But no she still just shoved the napkin into his chest and walked away. Sitting back at her desk Lara slapped the folder in front of herself. She opened it again before resting her elbows either side of it and massaging her temple, letting out a tired and pained sigh. "Ah." She gave a quiet, startled cry when she opened her eyes to see Fin suddenly standing there out of nowhere. "Boy you just don't give up do you?" She said looking up at him from the top of tired, somewhat bloodshot eyes. “Now Detective that’s no way to treat a guy who just asked you to pay me back is it.”She set her jaw, inhaling through her nose as she stared at him with a look. But that didn't stop him talking. For a second this whole thing had almost been amusing but she was done playing now. She didn't find him funny or cleaver trying to show her up at work and she was done. She stood up to be at his eye level, "Look, you can either turn around and get the hell out of here right now, or I'll arrest you for harassment." She told him firmly in an annoyed tone. "Because if I have to escort you out of this building you won't be taking the stairs." She finished, implying she'd show him out via the window. If she actually owed him money or not she wasn't playing nice. Maybe it was because she didn't want anybody at work hearing how much she had drank last night, but if she was honest with herself she was just playing with fire by pushing a loan shark. Maybe if she annoyed him enough he's put her out of her misery, though that was probably just wishful thinking. The chances were he'd just find ways to turn the screws. Once she had watched Fin leave Lara fell back into her seat. "What was that about?" Her colleague asked before taking a casual sip of his coffee. "Nothing." She replied flippantly, rubbing her forehead in frustration as she wondered why she did this to herself? "Uh-hu." He said looking at her less than convinced. But he wasn't gonna press it, he knew better than to press it when it came to Lara. Instead he just waltzed back over to his own desk and left her to it. Letting out a sigh Lara took out a flask from her top draw and poured a measure into her coffee. She had work to do and she needed a second dose of the hair of the dog to kick this hangover if she was going to go outside. It wasn't quite noon before Lara got called out to a crime scene in front of a bar situated on a corner. Parking her car she made her way slowly across the street and towards the cordoned off area. Her sunglasses protecting her yes from the sunlight as well as hiding them. Her coffee might have cured her hangover but it didn't do anything for the dark circles. Tag: @fin . Fin chuckled hearing her reaction as he simply smiled and shook his head. “It’s one of my more alluring qualities, I never give up detective.” He said seeing her blood shot eyes, how she had managed to make it into work was both impressive and slightly worrying at the same time. Fin hardly tended to worry about the people he gave loans to but this detective; she was either spinning and it would only get worse or that night was just that night. The fact she was in work and breathing the next day, Fin guessed it was a spiral that was mid way or just beginning.
Watching Lara stand up Fin smiled as her firm and annoyed tone said that this one would take a lot of work. “Do you really think threatening the guy who’s trying to help you is a wise idea?” He added smiling though really it was the nice way or the more painful way and despite the optimism he had for things like that. He was trying to extend a somewhat professional courtesy given his girlfriend was a detective too. It never hurt to try and be nice to a cop even if he knew most of them had a usual game and were awful poker players.
Leaving the precinct, well maybe home turf was a bit of a bad idea give the hangover. An hour or two to mull over his offer might be required as he made sure to hang around and catch the next time the detective left the precinct. Lucky for him Chicago was the city of crime and that ‘next’ call came sooner than he had anticipated as he followed the detectives to the bar that was cordoned off. The sunglasses he doubted would help much with the rays of light though it was a nice attempt he thought.
Walking over to the line Fin just smiled. “Oh Detective.” He called making sure to stand to the front of the gradually growing crowd. “I think we need to talk and are you sure this call is the one for you. Would hate to see you staggering out of a crime scene when last night was practically a crime scene all of it’s own.” He mused grinning at her trying to get any kind of rise out of her he could. The fact he was behind the line was okay, he was breaking no laws as far as he knew though getting to know his new best friend.
It was fun if he had to travel to every single crime scene across Chicago. “You know usually my call’s aren’t half as interesting as this one. Who do you think did it?” He asked her a little curious as to what she thought, hopefully she was a better cop than gambler because the way she had used the money last night. It was sure fire way to get a big red not solved on top of that case file.
(Sure feel free to jump things any time you want to, it’s fine with me.)

"What have we got?" Lara asked as she ducked under the crime scene tape and stepped over to the uniformed officer who had secured the scene. The officer filled her in on what they knew so far. One victim, one suspect at large and a description of someone who could be involved as either a witness or a potential suspect. Once she was brought up to date Lara went over to the shattered glass and blood droplets in front of the bar. That was when she heard Fin's voice, causing her to run a hand through her hair as she spun around shocked to see him standing there. This guy was persistent sure, but she sure hadn't expected him to turn up to a crime scene. “I think we need to talk and are you sure this call is the one for you. Would hate to see you staggering out of a crime scene when last night was practically a crime scene all of it’s own.” If this guy was trying to get a rise out of her he was succeeding to a fair degree. Both surprised and annoyed by his presence Lara stomped over towards the tape. "Seriously, what is your problem?!" She asked before stopping and standing face to face with Fin, each of them on their own side of the tape. “You know usually my call’s aren’t half as interesting as this one. Who do you think did it?” "I don't know, maybe someone being harassed by an annoying Irishman?" She retorted facetiously. She gave a shrug as she continued with a nonchalant and somewhat satirical tone, "Perhaps it was cute at first, but then things got out of hand so they off-ed him. I could see how that could happen." Even though Fin had taken her off guard by following her to the crime scene it would take more than that to rattle her. Though it wasn't doing her headache any favors at all. No she was being sarcastic and charismatically derisive as she spoke to him and she wasn't about to fall in line or get serious about the situation. "But it is an on going investigation, so unfortunately I can't discuss details of the case and I am going to have to ask you to leave." Looking to the uniformed officer she had spoken to a minute ago Lara gave a hand signal indicating him to widen the cordoned off area, "Push these people back. This isn't the circus, give us some room to work." With that she simply walked away to work the crime scene Following instructions the officer nodded and proceeded to move the crowed back a few yards with the help of a couple of fellow uniforms. If Fin really wanted her to take this seriously then he would have to step up his game. Tag: @fin . |

Fin simply smiled, watching the detective stomp over to him. His problem was simple, a debt unpaid that he needed to fix before things got too serious. “My problem is you detective. You need to understand what happened last night, you signed your name to me and that makes you my problem and me yours.” He added grinning, well there certainly could be worse problems to have he thought but this was an issue all to itself. A loan shark and a cop, it was hardly Starsky and Hutch but there were stranger pairings in life, while this was only temporary it could be fun at least.
“You don’t say, who knew an Irishman could do this.” Fin said thoughtfully, only trying to wind the detective up a little more. “Wow detective, you really have a great imagination but then what if this ‘Irishman’ was a tough nut to kill? And there could be ten more Irishmen waiting to take his place, while this one is trying to work things out nicely.” Fin added smiling, sure he could see how he could be annoying. Annoying was his job and he was oddly good at it, the nice way was a little less fun but then breaking fingers he had to be in the right mood for it.
This detective was far too much fun to toy with just now. “Aww now come on detective, just when we were getting to know each other. However the one issue you have with that, is I’m on the right side of the tape... for now.” He added grinning in his usual slick way. Fin saw the signal to move them back as he grinned, “I’ll be waiting detective.” He said stepping back politely as he watched her work the crime scene. It was good to see someone working and frankly if it had only been a couple of hundred dollars, sure Fin might have chalked it up to too much effort.
The sum was a lot larger than that and he needed the cash back. “Oh detective, what if I have information about the crime? Do I get to speak to you or are you going to turn a helpful citizen away?” Fin asked seeing a few of the crowd take note of his claim as he grinned at Lara. Well he had to try something and a cop turning their back on information. Hopefully he could swing it to get under the tape and at least tag along for the fun of it, sure he had little to no information but it never hurt to take a look at what someone else had done.
Keeping up with the Criminals as it were, see what might have happened and whose hand might have done it. Sure it was a mess but Fin could count a few people he knew capable of that amount of violence. After all he never really kept the best company most of the time.

All Lara could do was blink as Fin told her she has signed her name to him. The truth was she had little or more so no recollection of the previous night. All the self-destructive detective knew was that yesterday was her 'adoption day', the date she had legally been made apart of her family, a family that she no longer had and she had gone out that night to drown that pain by escaping onto a bottle...and to find some trouble. And it was looking like she had done just that. But then the man was still talking, why was he still talking? So many words. Something about 10 Irishmen waiting in his place and he was the nice one, honestly Lara wasn't paying proper attention. Her body was still dealing with some of the effects of the night before and she had put enough 'hair of the dog' in her coffee that she was slightly drunk right now and she just wanted him to shut up. Then came his comment about being on the right side of the tape...for now. At that she shot him a look, though she didn't respond. "I look forwards to it." She shouted with sarcasm as she walked away when he told her he'd be waiting. Then as she set to work with her back to the crowd, and more importantly to her with her back to Fin, she heard his voice call out again. “Oh detective, what if I have information about the crime? Do I get to speak to you or are you going to turn a helpful citizen away?” Freezing in place for a moment she tightened her jaw and squinted her eyes in annoyance. She let out a sharp breath before turning around. She marched to the crime scene tape, ducked under it and stomped over to Fin. He had said it loud enough for everyone to hear so she had no choice but to play his games and see what he had to say, "You want to play it like that? Fine." She crossed her arms and squared up to him, "I'm listening." She stared at him expectantly through her sunglasses, calling his bluff. Tag: @fin . |

He got plenty of looks from people, it was the nice looks that bothered him more than the harsh ones. The nice ones meant he had to keep his head on a swivel as he knew there was something he missed. The grins that meant he walked into an unknown, those unsettled him more than the detective’s had. If anything he was used to the ‘no he’s here’ or ‘why will he not give up’ kind of looks. He made a living from ruining other people’s days so rarely were people overly happy to see him.
Fin smirked seeing the detective freeze in place, oh he had picked a great day to get a rise out of her he thought to himself. Even when she stomped over to him Fin felt he had at least achieved getting her to his side of the tape easily enough. “What does it feel like to be on my side of the world detective?” He asked unable to keep the teasing tones from his voice as he knew she had no choice but to play along. At least for now until he could get a decent look at the scene and try to work out who might have committed a crime.
“I’m glad you are detective because we have our little... disagreement to sort out.” Fin said smiling almost sweetly as he glanced behind her toward the crime scene. “Now if you’re really interested, I can list a few people who can inflict that kind of damage on a person.” Fin added as he glanced around the place. “Just a quick question because if your victim is alive then I can tell you your suspect pool is great.” Fin stated thoughtfully, “If they are dead you can rule out anyone like myself, because the dead do not pay.”
It was a true story, if his loan was paid to a person who later found trouble that way. There was little to no hope of reclaiming the money owed and that was just a bad day all around. Alive however, there was every chance in the world people would pay up. He just hoped it was enough to keep the detective talking, or at least enough to keep her on his side of the tape. The one down side to a crime scene was no funny business and that was Fin’s speciality.
“So if you really want to know who might have done it, give me a name or let me onto that side of the tape to take a look?” Fin offered smiling, “It might be fun detective, besides I cannot have you working form a stance of zero after the night you had.” He added grinning as if he had just gotten all the money back and interest.

'Oh boy this was gonna be a long day' Lara thought to herself as Fin smiled sweetly as he said he was glad she was listening. This guy had latched on like a flea to a dog and he wasn't going to go away easily. "I'm really interested." Lara said in a flat tone, pulling out whatever scrap of paper she could find on her person. This guy was annoying but if he did have names she wanted them. Then she gave him a look from behind her sunglasses when he ask if the victim was still among the living or not. "I'm a homicide detective." She replied with a sardonic tone as she handed him the crumpled paper so he could write down a list of names. But her look quickly turned to a deep frown when Fin said the dead could not pay. That was a good point and had a lot of trough to it, but it was a statement that didn't make Lara happy to hear on a personal level. It meant that Fin had just told her he wouldn't be putting her out of her misery any time soon, and that was not what she wanted to hear. As crazy or as stupid as it was part of her was hoping he would do her the favor if she got mixed up with him and dug the hole deep enough. Now that just meant she was getting herself into a whole lot of trouble that could only lead to more pain and misery...yet thanks to her self-destructive impulses Lara had no plans to put down the proverbial shovel. Lara stared at Fin for a beat when he asked her for info on the victim or to be allowed to see the crime scene.Damn it she didn't want to but she didn't have much of a choice. Lara sighed reluctantly before she lifted the crime scene tape and held it up wordlessly. An unamused, deadpan expression on her face as Fin got his way. "Victim's name is Mr Joseph Adams, known as Joey." She said as they stepped over to the dark haired, chocolate skinned man. "Joseph is a 31-year-old golf caddy who lived 5 blocks over." She began, "Cause of death was sharp and blunt force trauma to the chest." She added, finishing off the summary. Lara looked to Fin, "Recognize the handwork?" She asked. He had made it clear his type wouldn't do this, but being in the criminal world he might know who would. Tag: @fin . |
