[attr="class","Brittnert"]Brittany owed Casey’s wife an apology. Well technically she felt like Gabby owed the apology but that was water under the bridge. Someone was going to have to step up and make amends. It might as well be Britt. They were both protective over their spouses but in the end, they were all family and Gabby might be the closest thing to understanding having loved ones go running into a burning building. Britt’s brother was a lieutenant, her soon to be sister in law was a paramedic, her husband was head of squad. If anyone else decided they were going to go running into burning buildings in her family, she was gonna scream.

She’d avoided Molly’s for the simple fact that she didn’t want to be around the police officers and firefighters she bumped heads with day in and day out. So here she sat at a bar with one of the prettiest views in all of Chicago. It was calming, peaceful even. There were nerves involved. Britt had hardly wanted to let her daughter out of her sight bit tonight Beth was babysitting for her. Kelly was on shift and it was better to not think about things.

No one understood what it was like to stand beside someone who was in the fire department. People say being a cops wife is hard, hell Brittany was the daughter of a cop. She’d seen the devastation caused by the explosion at the CPD. She had friends there under the rubble but at the same time she also had family there. Brittany couldn’t stomach that kind of day. Hell she yelled every time worry ate at her. Sometimes just yelling at the news on TV was enough to make her feel better. Like the dutiful wife, she played her part. But to even feel like she could talk to Kelly? No, out of the question. This was her battle and she was going to fight it.

Gabby wanted to kill people for being told to apologise to Kelly’s wife. The woman was the biggest annoyance in her life and how anyone could get along with her was beyond her understanding. Worse still being asked to say sorry, the one thing that a Dawson never did was apologise. Though Matt had managed to reminder her she was a Casey now too and those guys did, in her mind that was almost grounds for divorce too. Given the fact she had barely seen her husband for weeks now, divorce was pretty much their state of existing.

Between shifts and Matt avoiding her until she did apologise because his best friend was upset and the wife of his best friend. Blah, blah, blah the list went on and on. So instead of spending the night with her husband Gabby had to swallow any pride she had in being right and go to this bar with Brittany. Say she was sorry and look like she was too for all of five minutes and go. At least that was her plan despite the fact she had been told Matt would be out with Kelly and the house either sitting smoking cigar on the roof or something of the like.

The last few days with the explosion at the CPD all Gabby wanted was her husband or someone to talk to. Her brother was there, he was CPD she had friends there and they had dug people out and treated them that day. It had been one of the toughest days she had seen for a while and her husband was more interested in being in any other room than she was. Now she was forced to apologise to a woman she had no understanding of. Her day was just getting better as she threw on her black jeans, dark blue blouse and leather jacket.

If she was going to make that apology there would need to be some heavy drinking involved as she stepped out of the taxi and walked into the bar. Well one thing could be said for Kelly’s wife, at least she had taste in bars and of course with it not being Molly’s she was glad there was the usual audience lacking. Spying Brittany through the crowd Gabby decided to get them a couple of drinks first as she waited for two beers before approaching Brittany. “This seat taken?” Gabby asked as she motioned to the seat next to Brittany before holding out the beer she had got her.

Her mind chanting ‘please say yes’ over and over as she wished the woman would scream at her and give her a reason to leave. Could they even be friends at this point she wondered as the Vegas wedding thing was stuck in her head, no anyone that got married in Vegas could never be serious. It was one of many reasons she held against the woman silently, no Kelly needed a nice wife not one who ran off at the sign of trouble.

[attr="class","Brittnert"]Brittany hadn’t even figured out why she was going to talk to Gabby since the incident. But Brittany wasn’t one to harp on things that happened in the past. Though she sat at the bar trying to debate which beer to order. She was still trying to get things together in her life but Kelly mattered to her and so for him she would try and get along with his friend’s wife. Not that there was much to be said for the other woman’s attitude.

Tanner and Beth had almost given Brittany a heart attack when they showed up on the explosion scene. No, she wasn’t about to lose her brother, again. She knew Kelly had been part of the rescue groups too and stuff like that made Brittany want to hide far away. After her mother’s death in the fire, Brittany ran from flames and somehow ended up marrying a firefighter. Go figure.

Brittany was off in her own head when she heard that voice. The one that had yelled at and berated her for simply watching out for her husband. Just when she thought she had decided on a beer, it was Gabby who was handing her one. “I saved it for someone I hurt.” She was of course talking about Gabby. Brittany wasn’t usually combative, but she was protective. Kelly was helping her heal. Just because Brittany was a psychologist, didn’t mean she had her life entirely together.

There was an unspoken yes as Brittany tapped on the seat beside her taking the beer with a soft but polite “thanks.” Brittany didn’t need to tell this woman everything but she did need to right the wrong, that she’d caused. “I’m sorry.” It just kind of spilled out. Brittany wasn’t one to just apologize and not mean it. But it needed to be said.

In Gabby’s mind the ‘incident’ was a valid thing, she had tried to protect her family and Kelly included in that in her own weird way. The two men in their lives were friends and even if she was sure Kelly saw more of Matt recently than she did having to apologies to the Vegas wife. Oh that just rubbed her the wrong way, the woman was a bag of nerves and had no business being the wife of a fire-fighter. Gabby had seen the woman blow up Kelly’s phone over an incident but then it was their jobs, they went out every day it was just a fact of life.

Still an apology was owed, apparently. Gabby had given her word to people and despite her aversion to saying she was sorry it felt like the right thing to do to keep everyone else happy that mattered more than a Vegas wife. No she was hardly going to get herself started on what Kelly did in Vegas but then they seemed happy enough until she had told them the truth and now it was all ‘say sorry and mean it’. Go figure.

Gabby stared at Brittany when she said she saved it for someone she had hurt, oh there was no hurt just annoyance and wanting to tear the woman to shreds. “Yeah well, I guess she’s here.” Gabby said as she placed herself down on the seat once it was tapped and glanced over Brittany still not entirely sure what to make of the woman. Vegas said a lot, then she made Kelly happy which said just as much but then for a psychologist she was a little short on the voodoo mind babble for herself.

Why was there no out button, no screaming blonde that she could go back to Matt and say she tried but Britt went off at her? No she gave her a seat and took the beer; yes an apology was doomed to happen. “Thank you.” Gabby said hearing her apology as she turned to face the woman before taking a sip of her beer. Oh she needed tequila for this she thought.

“You know I’m sorry too I said some things that might have been true but that I should have kept to myself.” Gabby said in a roundabout way though the apology felt like it was killing her from the inside out. “So yes, there you have it I’m sorry.” She added just to make sure that Brittany knew she had apologised. “Is there anything else you want to ask or say?” Gabby asked not sure if Brittany had been told to say anything else, Gabby had done her thing and said those two words she vowed would never be spoken. So yes a long drink of beer from the bottle she had was in order as she did just that.
