Same shit, different day. Kyle was pretty sure he saw the cops more than his foster parents now. If it wasn’t one thing one week, it was another thing the next. Today he’s been caught spray painting a penis on top of a billboard - a rather small offense if you asked Kyle - but apparently the nearby people and the cops couldn’t take a joke. He cracked his neck a little as he shifted the cuffs behind his back - his eyes oooking around. He tried to keep himself calm as he saw different, far nastier looking perps. Sure he may act tough but every day he walked into the PD and was around these guys... Well he kind of turned into the nervous little kid he really was. “Hey boys - I’m back,” he quipped to the nearby cops. Trying to keep his cool and act like he owned the place as usual. “Three days later this time, a new record!” He smirked, yeah he probably looked tough enough right now. Matthew Cole

Matt wondered why he bothered sometimes, several of his co-workers definitely wondered why he bothered, but there were days he wondered himself. It was the same thing over and over and over again with these kids. But then he couldn't really help himself, he'd grown up in a fairly rough neighborhood and had seen his share of youngsters' lives waisted. So now he had a heart for troubled teens and it was a calling, a drive that he had inside of him that compelled him to help. It was why he still lived just a few blocks from that very building he had grown up in, and it's why he responded to every call he could involving 'troubled' and 'at risk' teens and young adults. There were times when he was just tired though and would say he wasn't gonna get involved this time. He'd tell himself it wasn't his problem or his responsibility to always step in and that he was just gonna walk away this time...but of course he almost never got much further than ten feet before he'd turn on his heels, sigh with frustration and got involved. So when he heard the call that some kid was vandalizing a billboard in HIS neighborhood it wasn't a surprise to anyone at PD that he had volunteered to respond. Sure enough he found one of the tallest 14 year olds he'd ever seen spray panting a less than modestly drawn body part for every lady, granny and child to see. “Hey boys - I’m back,” “Three days later this time, a new record!” Sure enough he was showboating and acting the tough guy, oh so very proud of himself as he sat there handcuffed and waiting. Matt could hear him as he was heading back over from his co-worker's desk that he had gone to for a couple of minutes to sort a few things out. "Welcome back, pumpkin." Matt responded with neutral faced sarcasm as he walked back over to Kyle. "Though keep being dragged in here isn't something you should be proud of." He said, letting go of the folder in his hand so that it fell onto the desk with a light thud. It was Kyle's records. Matt pulled out his chair and sat down, looking the teen straight in the face not bothered or impressed by his attitude and loud-mouthing "So you wanna tell me what you're doing going around vandalizing my neighborhood?"No he had dealt with much worse than this muscle-less and hairless teen in his time, so it would take a lot more than showboating to bother him. Kyle kind of had to roll his eyes at the officer. Did he really just pull “pumpkin”? Who the heck was this guy and on what planet was that funny? He could have mouthed off - and almost wanted to. But he bit back for the moment, the guy hadn’t looked happy and he would wait for the banter. At least for a few moments. He crossed his arms, realizing after the man started mouthing off that he didn’t care. He was too much of a smart add to bite his tongue at all either. “Thanks sweetheart, it was a really tough day at the office,” he replied with a smirk. “Aww but if I didn’t show up here on the regular I’d miss you all too much!” He added rather snarky, not really meaning it. He leaned back a bit as he threw down his - admittedly pretty hefty file. Ah, so the guy thought he knew who he was dealing with. That was an absolute laugh. Did he really think that he could intimidate him? He looked at him rather nonchalantly, not giving away any fear. He was too used to this by now to feel nervous around cops. Half the time he saw it as joke, even if a small part of him did think of joining up as an adult. “Why did I do it? For real? Why does anyone do anything?” He asked rather bluntly. “I’m sure you’ve made a thousand judgements about me haven’t you? Why don’t you try telling me why I did it detective?” He then added rather bluntly. “Maybe I like pissing people off. Maybe I have some deep seeded issues. Or maybe I was just bored!” Matthew Cole

Matt knew he started it with 'pumpkin' so he couldn't really say anything when Kyle retorted with 'sweetheart'. Though Matt had to admit the kid was witty as he listened to him sass about a tough day at the office and that he'd miss them all if he didn't see them regularly. However Matt remained straight faced and didn't take the bait of being sucked into a battle of smart mouthed comments and comebacks. “Maybe I like pissing people off. Maybe I have some deep seeded issues. Or maybe I was just bored!”Matt nodded. He knew the answer was probably all of the above, though he hadn't met many 14 year olds who would recognize and admit they were acting out because of some deep seeded issues, even if he had said it sarcastically. Many a true word spoken in jest and all that "I get bored too." He replied, "But I just play video games, call up a friend or read even. I don't paint a guy's privates on a billboard for every bodies grandmother to see." He said plainly. "What is it? An angry at the world thing?" He asked. Though he was actually asking. "You're angry so you like to p**s people off, get yourself some attention? Is that it?" He asked. After all Kyle was the one who mentioned having issues so Matt was gonna take advantage of the boys sass. He had made some assumptions about the boy based on a lot of previous experience yes, but he was actually gonna see if those assumptions was right and take things from there after that. "Well, you managed to get my attention. So can you either sit there and mouth off to me, or you can give me a good reason why I shouldn't press vandalism charges and save us both the trouble."Matt was willing to give the kid a break, but what he wasn't willing to do was just let him get away with it scot free if the lad genuinely had no remorse or reasons other than he was just a brat.
