Location - Major Crimes Floor Time - 11.00am Blue sky and sunshine. Chicago had finally seen that glorious sunshine and business was bustling at precinct 21. The squad cars lined up outside, shiny and washed for the day ahead. Sgt. Platt was giving out the assignments to patrol for the new shift and dealing with incoming enquiries. It was a full house of detectives, officers and civilians all going about daily life. Filing reports, asking for help, working on cases and paperwork. No one had really noticed the large van drive into the garage. Checked at the gate as a pickup of evidence for central storage the paperwork was in order as the van was let through the gate. It drove down into the lot, missing the first space it needed to take to make the pickup. Instead it drover further into the garage that sat directly under the precinct. It parked up next to the elevator for the parking structure and to the far side of the van was the structural column. The very beam that if damaged could cause a catastrophic failure to the foundations of the building. The driver got out walking back up to the check point as they tapped a box of cigarettes and motioned to the corner across the street. What was a five minute smoke break the cop of duty thought, it would take ten to fifteen to check the evidence out and into the van anyway. A polite nod and smile at the driver in the base ball cap as he watched the man make his way across the street. The cop went back to checking the paperwork seeing the signature was missing from the evidence lock up across town. He took two steps to try and catch the driver before the explosion hit and sent him flying into the concrete wall. The sound of crumbling and falling, screaming voices and the cloud of dust and debris that seemed to go on forever as the air was pushed out of the building to be replaced with fire, smoke and dust. (No one dies just injured if you want your character to be, only victims can be injured. Helpers are required to help those injured) Elizabeth Gidon (help), Lt. Christian Donald Sullivan (victim of explosion), @ Isla Hudson (You can choose which you would like to be), Dr Sofia Austin (whicherver Isla is not),

Location - Major Crimes Floor Time - 11.00amSullivan left his office and was making his way across the room when an earth shaking boom blew out part of the floor under him as well as most of the wall behind him, sending him flying like a rag doll. He stayed on his stomach for a moment before pulling himself on to his arms and knees, his glasses still somehow in his hand. He panted heavily as he looked up, seeing the destruction around him. This was bad, this was very bad. He staggered to his feet, putting a hand on his abdomen and groaning as he straightened his back. He wasn't 20 anymore and his back had a habit of playing him up when he hadn't been knocked out of his socks by an explosion. He looked out but he couldn't see more than a couple of feet in front of himself through the clouds of smoke and dust. Sully had no idea what had just happened, he just knew that something had exploded. He put his arm over his mouth, trying to prevent himself from breathing in as much dust and smoke as he could while he put his other arm out, feeling his way around as he took a few steps forwards feeling the debris with his feet as walked. He could hear the chaos coming from around him as well as from the floor below him, but he also heard the creak of steel coming from the ceiling above him. He continued taking another couple of steps but before he had time to do anything or get anywhere something gave way and s hunk ceiling collapsed, steel beam and all. Sullivan found himself on the floor once again, though this time on his back. After a moment to gather himself again he sat up on his elbows, but as he tried to sit up any more he felt his lower body was pinned. He coughed violently after the collapse had kicked up yet more dust and soot that he had inhaled, then he proceeded to shuffle backwards in attempt to pull himself out of the rubble. But that was a big mistake as it only served to caused a serge of intense pain that caused him to cry out. He quickly stopped pulling and rested on his back, knowing he was trapped, "Help!" He shouted. Not knowing if anyone was around to hear him. Not knowing if anyone was hurt or worse, oh he dreaded to think. He just knew help needed to come but there was nothing he could do, he was pinned down and he had left his phone on the corner of his desk, "Rescue, somebody call rescue!" |

While it wasn't very often that nurses had to give statements or testify within the execution of duties, there were still situations that required coming down to the police station, and today, Isla was here to confirm chain-of-evidence for a rape kit that she'd already signed on, but there were some formalities that needed to be straightened out. She had just finished and was headed out when all hell broke loose and the building shuddered then fell in on itself. Instinctively, she dove under a desk, closing her eyes and covering her head as dust and debris filled the air. For several seconds she huddled there, waiting for the initial chaos to settled, but then she heard the frantic call, muffled, but distinct, and she started to crawl toward the sound, cutting her hands as she pushed rubble out of her way. Finally, she felt something soft under her hand, and felt around, recognizing an arm, and through the thick dust she was able to make out a man's form. "Are you all right?" she asked, "I'm a nurse, I can help." Well, at least she could try, she was a little out of her element here, had no equipment, and could barely see. Still, that didn't stop her from starting to check the man for injuries. Lt. Christian Donald Sullivan , Dr Sofia Austin((Sofia, I'm good with whatever you want to do. Sofia had been asked to sign off on a few papers for her father. Yes a police station was hardly unfamiliar territory though usually she was picking him up from a cell or the drunk tank. This time she was signing a statement and confirming details for a court case or rather in case there was one. She was lead to believe it was pretty much a slam dunk case and they were only waiting to see if her father would drag them all through court or if he would take the deal of jail time. She was hoping for the second as she signed the papers and went to head home.
She had barely moved from the desk where she had been sat, she saw Isla there but barely registered a hello to the woman before everything seemed to cave in. It became hard to breathe as one minute she had her bag in her hand to leave, she had been standing but now all she could see was dust and hear a cry for help. Sofia had no idea she was holding her breath until she let out a sigh feeling that she was alive only to have that confirmed by the sharp white hot pain in her side.
Her hand felt down her side as she gritted her teeth until she came across the object causing her the pain. A shard of glass. It was protruding from her side like a knife as she forced herself to sit up groaning as she did so. Registering anything but the pain took a while as she realised she was as far from a hospital as the moon right then. She was a trauma surgeon, a person who could easily deal with this sort of thing... when it was someone else lying on the table in pain.
Sofia did the one thing that most doctors would have screamed at her for. She pulled out the glass, almost passing out in the process but the shape of the glass, angle and lack of blood meant one of two things. It was just a slice that would heal given time, or she would bleed out in the middle of a police station. Either way she was setting herself up to do her job, it was shock that was kicking in over everything else. Do her job that she was trained to do except this time she was on sight to do it she thought holding her hand to her side.
It took her a moment realise the face she had seen before. “Isla?” She called out wondering if the woman was there or if she had imagined it. She knew her from work but wanted to make sure she was okay as she moved hearing voices. A help and an I can help which mean that help was there. “Where are you? Anyone need help?” She called out trying to find her way through the debris and dust that seemed to make everything more difficult.

Pinned and unable to sit up to look around Sully couldn't see if anyone was near by to help, or if anyone else was trapped or hurt. Then he felt a hand touch him and heard the voice. "Are you all right?" "I'm a nurse, I can help." "I can't move." He replied somewhat shaken, but he was so glad to hear her voice. He pointed to the mountain of rubble and debris that now buried the lower half of his body, "I'm stuck." He grimaced in pain. "And my leg hurts." Something was digging into it for sure...if it hadn't gone through it. He looked at Isla when she moved where he could see her, "Is anyone else hurt?" He asked...were any of his gone was what he asked without saying. Then he heard another voice calling from near by. "We're over here!" He shouted so the lady could find them. "D-do you know w-what happened?" Sully asked, his breathing labored from, well, everything that had happened. Tag: Isla Hudson , Dr Sofia Austin . |

Isla heard her name called, although the sound was muffled and it took her a minute to place it. "Doctor Austin!" she shouted, then turned her attention back to the man. "Sir...how are you?" "I can't move."Those words sent a chill through her. Was he paralyzed? And if so, were the muscles involved in breathing involved so that he might just stop at some point? "Try...wiggle your toes for me." She could still barely see, so she ran her hand down his leg toward his foot. "I'm stuck." He grimaced in pain. "And my leg hurts.""Yeah, yeah, I see that now." She'd managed to palpate to just below his knee, but there was a beam or something blocking her progress and she'd have to find a way around. Hopefully, there was something still attached down there! "Give me a sec to look," she murmured, moving back toward his head, looking to see if there was anything she needed to address now that the dust was settling a little. "Is anyone else hurt?""I don't know." Giving him a sympathetic smile, she shrugged, admiring that he was worried about others while he was injured himself. "Probably, I'm afraid. That was pretty big..." She couldn't imagine that there weren't other casualties, but right now he was all she could tend to. "Help should be here soon, don't worry." Then he heard another voice calling from near by. "We're over here!""Doctor Austin!" Adding her own voice, she hoped that the doctor would find them so she could find out about the man's legs. "D-do you know w-what happened?""An explosion, I think, but I don't know..." Well, it could have been something accidental, like a gas line, or something intentional, a frightening prospect. "I'm not sure where, either, but I don't think it was actually in the room here." Again, a scary thought, if there was this much damage her, 'ground zero' had to be a mess. "Do you work here?" she asked the man, reaching to gently brush dust away from his face. "Close your eyes for a sec." Dr Sofia Austin, Lt. Christian Donald Sullivan,

Sofia heard the unfamiliar male voice, given her history she guessed people would have forgiven her for running the other way but this was her job. No explosions or police stations but fixing people, this was her game and her job. Sofia held her bag as she tried to find her way toward the voice, it has the basics of a trauma kit in there. By basics she meant the basic first aid kit with a few added extras just in case. Nowhere near what might be required but enough that they could make a start until the paramedics got there.
Hearing her name it was almost an outer body experience as she realised Isla must know she was there. Sofia had been in the back of many an ambulance to a similar scene but never as a victim not that she classed herself as one. No she was back on the bandwagon of helping people. Making sure they made it to the hospital for treatment. Sofia made her way through the rubble, it took her a minute or two to locate the man and Isla as she was relieved to see them both there.
“Hey you two.” Sofia said coughing a little as she winced moving to drop onto her knees next to them as she glanced over the two. “So tell me what do we have here?” Sofia asked smiling as she gingerly reached into her handbag and pulled on a pair of gloves. It might have looked a little strange but she was a doctor and doctors carried a lot of strange and useful items. Yes she had a kit in her car but that felt like a thousand miles away right then. Sofia was still looking over Isla and Christian as she could see the man was pinned down.
Good and bad she thought as either the fact he was stuck was just that he was stuck or if they managed to move him, they might be met with a slew of injuries that a handbag kit just might not be able to fix. Why could a major incident not happen within the confines of a hospital where she knew where everything was? That would be a manageable nightmare.

Sully wiggled his toes. It sent a searing pain down his leg causing him to groan in pain, but he could just about move them among the rubble that was piled up on his legs and feet. "Arrr! Something feels like it's digging in." He told her. His leg was still fully attatched, but there was blood coming from somewhere. No doubt there was a lump of concrete or a metal rod sticking him under that lot of rubble and building that had him half burred alive. He looked at her as she told him what he already knew, there had been an explosion but she didn't know any more than he did about what caused it and if any of his men were dead. Not that he expected her to know any more. She was on the same floor as him at the same time so how would she know more? He had just asked in the vain hope. Sully coughed, "Yes I work here. I'm head of the MCU." He said in response to her question. He closed his eyes like she told him and when he opened them again he saw Sofia had joined them. "We've run into a spot of bother I'm afraid." He said when she asked them what do we have here. "A case of a collapsed celling." He added, not that she needed to be told that. He looked at Sofia, "I'm pinned and I can't sit up to see anything. Please, how bad it is?" He asked. He wasn't talking about his leg, though that was a concern, he meant the state of the building. He had no idea how bad or not the devastation was and how far it went. Was it just their floor? Was it the whole building? What was the chances he'd see all of his people again? So many questions and nothing he could do to get up and get the answers. Tag: Isla Hudson , Dr Sofia Austin . |

"Doctor Austin." Isla coughed, glad that the dust finally seemed to be settling a little, and glad that the doctor was here. Not only was she still relatively new to the medical stuff, so grateful for a doctor and her knowledge, but she was just glad for someone she knew. As being closer to the man's legs, Isla shifted around so that she could really assess the situation, not at all thrilled with what she found. "Okay, so, there's a slab of concrete over your legs, but you have pulses on your feet, so that's good." She had taken off his shoes and socks so she could assess that. "Can you wiggle your toes?" Then she glanced at Sophia. "I think we can move this, but...we should probably have the medics here first...unless you've got an IV set up?" She had seen the bag, but wasn't sure what the doctor carried in it. And right now, it was probably a good idea to have an IV going before they freed the man's legs -- the pressure of the concrete would cause lactic acid to build up in the tissues, Dr Sofia Austin, and once the pressure was relieved, that acid would be released into the bloodstream, a potentially deadly occurrence if they weren't ready with an IV and sodium bicarb to counter it. "Doesn't seem too bad," Isla continued, referring to the man, but then she looked around, blinking dirt from her eyes. Man, her head hurt! "Tore the place up. We'll get you out of here, don't worry. Me and Doc Austin, they call us the 'Sisters of Little or No Mercy', but we've never lost a patient yet!" Lt. Christian Donald Sullivan, Dr Sofia Austin,

Sofia smiled hearing the man say they had run into a spot of bother, well that certainly was a good way of phrasing it. She was more inclined to believe the world had just gone to hell but that was just her version of events. “Well you know yesterdays ceiling is today’s floor, so at least we still have a floor to work with.” Sofia said optimistically as she could. She had no idea how sturdy the floor was but then that was a thought for another time. Listening to Christian Sofia smiled at him. “Ever heard the saying trust me I’m a doctor?” Sofia asked him, “Well I am and you’ve also got the best nurse in Chicago with you too so as for how bad it is, it’s looking pretty okay at the moment.” Sofia replied trying to be reassuring without saying too much. “Just leave it to us, you just sit back and relax for a moment okay.” Hearing Isla talk about the pulse in the mans feet well that was a lot better than first expected. A pulse meant blood flow and that was all they could ask for right at that moment. “I’ve not got that with me, just the basic first aid kit.” Sofia explained as she pulled the medical kit from her bag. Yes she might walk around with what looked more like a college kid’s bag but the over the shoulder back was big enough to house a basic kit and her personal effects. Then again she had never really had much cause to use the kit in her bag and the only reason she had it with her was she was on call for the ambulance’s that day anyway once she was on shift. “Isla’s right, we’ve never lost anyone yet and I’m not planning to today.” She confirmed smiling though when she saw Isla blinking Sofia glanced over at the woman. “Okay what hurts on you?” Sofia asked wanting to make sure that both of them would be getting out of there as she heard some shuffling from across the room. “Hey we need a medic kit here...” Sofia called out not sure if it was a passing medic that they could loot of a few things or not. "Okay, so, there's a slab of concrete over your legs, but you have pulses on your feet, so that's good." Sully nodded, "That's good to hear." A pulse was good. But it felt like more than a slab of concrete was on his leg, it felt like it was half the building. Hearing the 'Sisters of Little or No Mercy' comment Sully gave a light chuckle that just turned to a cough. But it was comforting to hear they had never lost a patient so far. Right now that was what he needed to hear, he had a family and for a moment as everything exploded and fell down around him he was afraid he would never see them again. After hearing the girls it didn't look like his life was at immediate risk, though having that much weight pinning his leg a part of him in the back of his mind couldn't help but worry that he might not be keeping two legs for that much longer. A thought that was very frightening in an already traumatic situation. In his career as a law enforcement officer Sully was the person to serve and protect when someone called for help, but as a cop there was nothing he could to help this situation right now. It wasn't an easy situation to be in but Sully knew he was the one who needed the help and this time it was down to other first responder branches to come to the rescue. And he was so grateful that Sofia and Isla was there to do just that. Again he nodded as Sofia spoke, assuring him he had two of the best in Chicago and that his situation looked pretty good so far. “Just leave it to us, you just sit back and relax for a moment okay.”Comforted by her bedside manner Sully reached out and squeezed her hand for a moment. Grateful for her kindness and so thankful that they both happened to be there in the first place. "Thank you." They could both have just thought about their own safety and evacuated the building, but they had chosen to stay behind and help those who couldn't help themselves. For that 'thank you' wasn't enough, but it was all the aging Lieutenant had right now. Frowning Sully lifted his head and looked to Isla when the doctor asked her what hurt, "Are you hurt?" he asked. Then Sully heard the shuffling that Sofia shouted to, but with the way he was pinned on his back he was unable to look in the direction to see who it was, "In here. In here." He shouted. If Isla was hurt they would need the extra help. Plus it would take more than just two women to be able to lift the weight of the slab that had him pinned. Tag: Isla Hudson, Dr Sofia Austin. |

The sounds were still muffled, and her raging headache didn't help at all, but Isla nodded. There was nothing that she was aware of that was wrong that would kill her, she was pretty certain she would know if there was, and the rest was just more painful than she would have chosen, if there had been a choice in this. But at least she was free. "Hey, you're the one stuck." She grinned at him, then glanced at the doctor, wiping dirt out of her eyes with the back of her hand, as if that was any cleaner than anything else around! "Any suggestions?" she asked Sofia, but before she could answer a firefighter emerged from the swirling dust. "Are you ladies all right?" He flashed a big grin inside the mask of his SCBA, looking them over quickly then focusing on Sullivan. "Looks like you're in a bit of a spot there." Dr Sofia Austin, Lt. Christian Donald Sullivan,
