Location - Front Desk Time - 11.00am Blue sky and sunshine. Chicago had finally seen that glorious sunshine and business was bustling at precinct 21. The squad cars lined up outside, shiny and washed for the day ahead. Sgt. Platt was giving out the assignments to patrol for the new shift and dealing with incoming enquiries. It was a full house of detectives, officers and civilians all going about daily life. Filing reports, asking for help, working on cases and paperwork. No one had really noticed the large van drive into the garage. Checked at the gate as a pickup of evidence for central storage the paperwork was in order as the van was let through the gate. It drove down into the lot, missing the first space it needed to take to make the pickup. Instead it drover further into the garage that sat directly under the precinct. It parked up next to the elevator for the parking structure and to the far side of the van was the structural column. The very beam that if damaged could cause a catastrophic failure to the foundations of the building. The driver got out walking back up to the check point as they tapped a box of cigarettes and motioned to the corner across the street. What was a five minute smoke break the cop of duty thought, it would take ten to fifteen to check the evidence out and into the van anyway. A polite nod and smile at the driver in the base ball cap as he watched the man make his way across the street. The cop went back to checking the paperwork seeing the signature was missing from the evidence lock up across town. He took two steps to try and catch the driver before the explosion hit and sent him flying into the concrete wall. The sound of crumbling and falling, screaming voices and the cloud of dust and debris that seemed to go on forever as the air was pushed out of the building to be replaced with fire, smoke and dust. Jeff knew he shouldn’t have gone to the police station.
He had been through enough crap in his life - and going back to the place his dad used to work? Man he really didn’t like it already. But he had to since Alexis had insisted on turning in those jerks who had tried to mug him. But now? He felt dizzy, and pained, lots and lots of pain. He looked around and tried to clear his line of sight, oh god so much pain.
He attempted to shift himself but felt the most searing pain in his life at trying to move his left leg. Oh god, what was wrong with his left leg? He coughed loudly trying to get a clear sight of what was going on, and that’s when he noticed it. Through his ringing ears and his blurred vision he could see the puddle of blood under what was his left leg - that he had a gut feeling well wasn’t there anymore.
Oh god, he’d known he had to have been close to whatever went off - but hardly how close. But now his leg was gone? Christ, his left leg was gone wasn’t it? Panic was setting in fast - what was he going to do? Was anyone even around to help? He choked slowly. Trying to give some vocal expression that he was ok, trying to shout for Alexis - trying to get past the shock of the whole thing.
He finally managed to get a single word out. “Help!” As strangled as it sounded.

Alexis knew that Jeff wasn't really thrilled to be her, and in a way she would have just let the whole incident slide, but she hated that other boys were bullying him to the point of what amounted as assault, and besides, someone had called the cops, so the two of them sort of got caught up in the law-enforcement vortex, whether they liked it or not. At least he was still talking to her as they sat in the lobby area waiting to be called back to be interviewed, and she had promised him lunch when they were done. In fact, she had just been called to the back when the floor suddenly rose, tossing her up and at the same time a sideways force threw her into the front desk. As she crumpled to the floor, confused, the sound of the blast-wave finally hit and in an instant, her head started ringing, the world went black and she couldn't breathe. Fighting back panic, she tried to form a plan...wasn't that what her dad always talked about? Having a plan? But how did you do that? She wanted to do so many things all at once, and while finding Jeff was on top of the list, she wasn't even sure she could move. Not only that, but the air was thick with smoke and dust, she didn't even dare open her eyes, not that she'd see anything if she did, and every breath she took choked her. First...to breathe...She pulled the front of her shirt up over her nose and mouth, that action making the beginning of step two...inventory. Toes moved, fingers moved, legs, arms...sure, there was pain, a lot of it, but as long as she was moving... "Help!""Jeff?" Trying to breathe shallowly, Alex cocked her head, then started to crawl toward the voice, trying to remember where she had be, where he had been, where the other people in the lobby had been. After crawling several feet through rubble and over larger chunks of debris, her hand landed on something soft, and a bit of exploration told her it was a leg, with a foot (thankfully) attached. "Jeff? Is that you?" Alexis Wheeler (victim of explosion), Benjamin Taylor (help), @yugioh (victim of explosion), @trinity (help),

Trinity has been delivering findings for a joint CPD and FBI case. It was a paperwork nightmare but before the CPD started the age old dispute about being left out of the loop. Trinity had decided to walk the papers over to the CPD herself. She had even passed the evidence van on her way out and back to her car. Normally she might have called her brother to ask if he wanted lunch or similar but today, no she decided quiet was the way to go. It wasnt like she didnt have a little time before she had to be back to the federal morgue but she decided to hang around.
She walked across the street having come out of the side entrance and ordered a coffee from the cart that likely served most of the cops on break. Patiently waiting in line she eventually got the latte, paid and had taken one step to the side when the earth shook. The shattering glass and screams as alarms blared but that didnt stop her from being thrown back onto the tarmac, effectively dropping the coffee she held outright all over her shoes. The building had exploded, she had seen it as it took her a minute to figure that out.
Outside it was chaos but the thing about being a medical examiner was, she had medical skills and those looked like they might be needed. Her hand shaking she reached for the keys to her car in her jacket pocked. Running as the others at the coffee cart were just standing up, Trinity was already rooting in the boot of her car for her medical kit. Usually used on the dead but she had a bag for the living just in case. First rule from Michael, have a plan and be prepared.
She had once joked it was just in case her patients came back to life but today, she was thankful for her brothers pestering. It didnt take her too long before likely against all sane advice Trinity was heading through what were the front doors and into the lobby and front desk area. She stayed low to the floor as she coughed against the smoke and dust in the air when she heard a familiar voice. Alexis, no it couldnt be she was hearing things. Probably stress because her niece didnt have a reason to be at the twenty first.
“Anyone need help, call out.” Trinity yelled, this was the first real patient situation she had dealt with for a while. Sure she was always on standby for incidents and with this likely her table was going to be busy if the CPD wanted the help but this was different. Living patients, she was willing for the living ones. “Call out for a medic.” She called as she stopped to try and see where she was going or to hear any voice she could do as she clutched the medical bag in her hand.

Ben hated not being able to watch Stephanie’s back when on a call but this was just too big a call to be able to do his usual hovering. He had been trying to be more relaxed about things and yes up until his mother’s death he felt like he was finally getting somewhere. After that he felt as if he had taken three steps back as he worried each and every time he was unable to see Stephanie. They had two kids and not coming home, no that was unacceptable on both their parts. Then there was today, not enough staff everyone going in their own way and hoping that they would all get right back out. He had been given the front desk area to clear, easy enough and close to the door too or what was left of the general area. Ben watched as a woman with a bag entered the building, he swore if she was a civilian trying to help he would drag the woman out by the toes screaming if he had to. Ben grabbed his kit and started to jog in after the woman, what business did she have in entering a scene like this and it was obvious by the way she clutched the medical bag in her hand. When she called out she was a medic, it made more sense as he bit back his words to scream at her about wondering into the whole thing. “Fire department; call out.” Ben yelled waiting to hear back from anyone as he reached out to take the woman’s arm. “With me okay?” Ben stated more than asked her, it was easier to keep an eye on the woman if she was there with him rather than anywhere else. Between the two of them they should be able to fix up those who where in need of help. At least he hoped that they could. Everyone was working toward it but he knew given the situation he could see, getting people out was a main concern given the twisted metal. Broken concrete and that was only what he could see on the floor. Above their heads, no just move fast and keep going he thought as he listened out for any signs of life. @yugioh, Alexis Wheeler, @trinity,

Jeff spat blood. Ok Jeff, breathe it was going to be OK. He could hear Alexis, and a woman... and then a man? He was trying to concentrate but no doubt he was trying to hold back shock too. Dear god, what did he do? Did he say something? He was trying to find the energy - he needed to call out and get help. God he wasn’t going to die like this, bleeding out alone, half there and very disoritented. He felt tears streak down his face as he tried again to move, agony filling him. He cried out - maybe someone could hear that. After all it was very loud, loud enough that he hoped someone would hear. But if not, he had to scream out something - he knew he had to do it. “Somebody help me!” He didn’t know where his strength came from - but he also knew he had found it, or was louder than he had ever expected. “My leg... Oh god my leg...” he replied sharply. He tried to get louder but the pain was too great - his voice got caught in his throat again. Man, he hated this. Jeff had always been the tough guy - the one that never needed anyone’s help. Now he had to rely on it, from Alexis and who else? Two random strangers? He wasn’t sure he could trust them - who said they wouldn’t abandon him? He was a nobody - no one would miss him would they? He fought to keep his eyes open all the same. He was not going to die like this... (I think you said you wanted her to be holding his severed leg Alexis? So going by that) Alexis Wheeler, @trinity , Benjamin Taylor

"Jeff, Jeff...I'm right here..." Alex's heart caught in her throat at his panicked cries, and she shouted for all she was worth, "Here! Over here!" Then, more quietly, since it was hard to breathe as it was, even though the dust was settling, "I'm here Jeff, it's okay, I got your..." Leg?! Oh, hell, no!" But yes, she had a leg, one with a shoe at one end, but...no body at the other? She felt her stomach turn and almost puked, but this wasn't the time...her lessons from her dad and time at the vet office helped her to put the horror aside and find the rest of Jeff. "It's okay," she murmured, then coughed and called out again, "Over here!" And then her probing hands found a puddle of sticky wetness -- blood -- and then...Jeff. "It's okay," she muttered again, pressing as hard as she could on his leg, trying to stop the flow of blood. "Jeff, it's me, Alex...it's going to be okay. Someone help us!" @yugioh, @trinity, Benjamin Taylor,

[googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] IT'S GOING TO BE one of those days Trinity glance over at the man that said with me, she was about two seconds short of telling the guy where to stick his with anyone right then when she saw the turnout coat. Yeah, she recognised it. Similar to her sisters though she prayed she wasnt working together either but the uneasy feeling she had said all she needed to know. Being one of three or now two had its advantages, when you felt something was off. It usually was and with her sister, everything was off as Michael was the normal one who balanced the two of them out. Ying and yang with emphasis on the war that could happen if the two clashed.
“With you, on it.” Trinity replied to the fire fighter. “I’m a doctor, medical examiner to be exact but still a medic.” She explained in case the man was in any doubt about her. She didnt usually lay her skill set out but then she was wishing for live patients as she knew given the destruction it wasnt going to be long until she had a line of deceased ones waiting for her. Trinity might have tried to explain more but then the shouts for help followed by an ‘over here’ there wasnt much time to waste on explaining anymore.
“Help’s right here, just stay calm.” Trinity called out as she struggled to see much further than the end of her outstretched hand as she came across the two. She felt the sharp intake of breath as she saw the scene, it wasnt the blood or the leg that bothered her. To her mind that was just any other day at the lab. What bothered her was the fact that the two people were kids. Barely kids in her mind though anyone under the age of thirty was a kid to her.
“Hi guys, what’s your names?” Trinity said finding a safe place by Jeff to place her bag down as she tore it open. Less speed more haste she told herself as she pulled out a tourniquet to wrap around what remained of the Jeff’s leg. Trinity placed a hand on Jeff’s cheek as pulled out a packet of bandages. “Listen you’ve got to stay with me okay? Focus on me and I’m going to ask you to bite on this.” Trinity said as she held out the tube shaped roll of bandages.
“I’m going to apply a tourniquet but you’ll feel a little pain so bite on that okay?” Trinity asked as she knew she had lied when she said little pain. Oh it would hurt like hell but then she wasnt about to tell a kid that, no better he find out later and then by the looks of things the worst of it would be over. Anything after that would be a breeze as at least she could give him something for the pain.

|| TAG: @yugioh, Alexis Wheeler, @trinity,|| WORDS: 0 || || NOTES: ... || Ben just glanced over the medical examiner. “You know you’re supposed to wait until they are dead right?” He joked, oh hell it was gallows humour but then since when had he ever been appropriate with anything. “Just make sure you don’t misdiagnose your patients. They are supposed to have a pulse.” Ben added grinning for a moment thinking it could be the last time he would be able to crack a joke in the day. Someone had just hit their family and Ben hardly took kindly to that, especially when he could see not everyone was going to be getting home.
It was his one fear for his family now, he always wanted to come home and would fight for that. Hearing the voices call for help Ben could feel his heart break for them, people should never have to deal with anything like that. Then again he ran into fire for a living so this was just a fireless, dusty room until he could see the blood and leg that should have been attached to a kid that seemed to be around the same age as his daughter. He could barely stop his mind from wondering to Grace and Zach trying to work out what he would do if these were his kids in there.
There would be nothing stopping him at all. Names Ben hardly waited for that as he smiled at the girl that was there as the medic started to take care of Jeff. “Miss, your friend he’ll be okay. He’s in good hands.” Ben said as he glanced over the girl trying to check for anything he was missing over her. Hearing Trinity say to bite on something Ben knew what came next, either the kid would scream that blood curdling scream he expected or pass out from the pain.
He was amazed the kid was still conscious but then there were stranger things. “Miss I’ll need you to look at me a moment, tell me if anything hurts okay?” Ben asked her trying to distract her before things got worse. In a situation like they were in, there was always the chance of it getting wose and by worse he meant going sideways and then ten times worse before you could even catch your breath.

"Alexis, I'm Alexis and that's Jeffery." She was trembling, barely managing to keep her composure, although she was feeling stronger now that help was here. "My head hurts and my hearing is funny...and my arm..." Frowning, she blinked dust from her eyes. "I'm Alexis. What happened? I think something hit my head." Had she asked that before? "Where's my friend, I think he's hurt, too. It's...where are we?" Everything seemed so muddled and it was hard to focus, the ringing in her head seemed to be getting louder. "My head hurts. What happened? I think there was someone with me..." Man, she just wanted to lay down and rest, to sleep for a few days until her head stopped hurting. "I can't see too good, either." @trinity, Benjamin Taylor,
