Wallace had a few hours to spare before shift started that morning, it was just before seven in the morning and he was sat in his usual haunt. Usual when he had a morning shift and Donna was already out and about with their son. It was his first day back at work after a break and now he was back eating the same hearty breakfast that his wife would kill him for long before the bacon and beans would. Besides the fire house, home and Molly’s Wallace could be found at the cafe. It was a nice place, table and chairs and a friendly atmosphere.
All he could really ask for at that time in the morning as he sat back in his chair, newspaper on the table and a pot of steaming hot coffee in his hand. He was half way through reading the morning headlines when he placed the order for his usual after scouring the menu as if he might make a different choice. He rarely did as he ordered the breakfast and another pot of coffee before he settled back to reading the newspaper for the day.
He wondered how the house had gotten along with the interim chief though he had a few hours before he found all of that out. He had kept up to date at times but Wallace wasn’t one to butt into another guy’s command unless it was needed. In this case he was just happy to be going back to work as there was only so much time off he could take before he was looking at a third divorce. He never really did well with down time though he had enjoyed it this time. He took a sip of his coffee as he waited for breakfast and the time before shift to pass.
