[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] "Lose a finger or a hand to this guy? I don't think that's possible" Aria said as she kept her attention on Rufus. He was a friendly dog, and probably wouldn't hurt a fly. If anything, Rufus would probably try to befriend the fly. About three years...that was a long time to not have found a family yet, especially for a dog that has Rufus' personality. Aria herself knew how that felt too, given she's been in the foster care system. "People prefer puppies" Aria pointed out. Puppies were cuter and could steal anyone's heart. "I love puppies too, don't get me wrong. They're full of energy and hard to resist. But sometimes people forget that fully grown dogs can still have that puppy like nature, and even be just as friendly" "It could also go back to what you said though. Rufus just may not have found the right person or family to be with yet. We can tell ourselves that we want that particular dog, but if the dog doesn't accept you it won't ever work out" Aria agreed. She knew a thing or two about accepting families and people. There had been a couple times that she'd been put with a family who had good intentions and were great people, but that Aria didn't fit in with. Aria nodded as she focused her attention back on Rufus, trying to keep him calm and happy. He did seem to enjoy her presence and affection. "I'm ready" she told Logan as she rubbed Rufus' ears. "You're going to be okay buddy" she whispered to the dog. Logan laughed as he nodded, oh Rufus was far too friendly to take a hand or a finger though maybe lick you death would be more appropriate he figured. It was nice to see Aria with Rufus, today had just been one of those days so far but now. Now it seemed to be turning into one of those better days in life where everything seemed to work out for the better.
“You’re right they do.” Logan replied as he listened to her talking. “You know I would say you’re pretty great with animals and understand them too, you sure you’re not wanting me job?” Logan joked though in all seriousness he thought she would make a good vet. “People often forget puppies grow up too so I think they all need a chance, Rufus is just as cute and loving as a puppy but without the house training and chewing phases.” He said with a grin.
It was nice to hear someone of Aria’s age talk sense for a change, not every dog found a good home and not every dog managed to fit with the owners. Dogs had as much personality as a human did and if the two didnt go then people were going to get in trouble and the dogs usually ended up where they were. Those were the good outcomes as he hated to think about the bad ones. Still when Aria said she was ready he nodded to her.
Setting up the injections Logan started one by one, four in total as he made sure to work quickly. He knew it would sting a little but it couldnt be helped and then again if the jags came in pill form. Dogs were as crafty as humans when it came to taking medicine. He would usually find the pill after hiding it in a mountain of their favourite food kicking about the kennel somewhere. “See all done now.” Logan said smiling as he made sure to tidy things up and place everything back in his bag. “Now Rufus is ready if he finds his perfect family, though I’d say he has found it already.” Logan said with a smile as he stroked Rufus lightly.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Aria smirked at Logan when he asked if she was trying to take his job. "I'm sure that I don't want it. Though hypothetically speaking, how much would it cost to start my own clinic?" She was joking of course. Aria had no intentions of becoming a vet or starting her own practice, but she had to mess with Logan a little. She focused on Rufus while Logan gave the dog his vaccines. Rufus seemed to handle it okay, though maybe that was because Aria was paying attention to him and offering all sorts of pets and scratches. Aria kept petting Rufus up until Logan mentioned how he thought Rufus may have found the perfect family already. She would love to take Rufus in and bring him home where Aria could properly spoil him. She could let Rufus follow her around the city, and take him to the park or the beach for a few games of fetch. Maybe Aria could even teach him some tricks, if Rufus was willing to learn them. And at night, Rufus could sleep in the bed with Aria. It would be nice, and Aria was sure Rufus would love it just as much as she would. But it couldn't happen. With the situation she was in, it wouldn't be fair to Rufus. And as much as Aria would love to adopt him and take him home right now, she couldn't. "Logan...I can't. It wouldn't be fair to Rufus. I move too much" Aria kept telling herself that Rufus would be better off here, where another family could adopt him and give him a better life. Though that may not even be true. The poor dog had already spent a lot of time here. Maybe Aria could take Rufus. She had been with her current placement for awhile now, and while Aria knew it wasn't a permanent one, it was probably as close as she going to get. But even then, Aria wasn't too sure. Knowing her luck, the moment she got Rufus she would probably be placed somewhere else. There had to be some sort of solution though. "Maybe I can take him during the day though. Let him leave here and explore the city with me, you know?" Aria suggested. "And then bring him back before the kennels close for the day and before I have to head home. It would get him out of here for a bit, at least" She wasn't sure if that was allowed, but if it was then it would give Rufus a much needed change in scenery. Aria knew that Rufus would probably like that too. Logan laughed hearing Aria had an aversion to his job, there were days when he hardly wanted it either though when she asked how much it cost. “I’m still finding that out, my secret is to find a clinic needing an extra set of hands. It’s what I did and now it’s half mine too, not exactly my own but it works out you know.” Logan said smiling though he made sure to turn his face serious for a moment. “Just make sure not to set up on my block of Chicago okay, I’m not wanting the competition.” He teased.
When something was right, it was right and that was what he saw between Aria and Rufus though when she said it would be unfair he had to hand it to the kid. Aria seemed more and more like the perfect match for Rufus because it was about the dog and not just her. “Okay, if you can’t then that is okay.” Logan said thinking for a moment, he knew she had said little about what her situation was but then again he knew the college angle was maybe a little bit of a lie in some parts.
“Is there anything I can help you with?” Logan asked her not sure what she was in the middle of or going through but it was worth asking the question to at least see what could be done. He might not be able to help her out with a lot but maybe there was something he could do. He knew life could stink at times and that people needed help more than they admitted but Logan knew exactly what had happened in his family. So passing on a little help he tried to do whenever he could simply to help out another person.
“You know that sounds like a perfect idea, it gets him out and gives him contact with the outside world more than he would get in here. Plus that way you get an extra friend to walk about with too.” Logan said with a smile as he nodded. “I think Rufus would love that and getting out of your own four walls is the best thing that can happen. I’ll get you a pass for the kennels too so that way you can come and go as you want here.” Logan added running his hand over Rufus for a moment. “See boy looks like it was the right idea to bring you a new friend today, maybe you can watch out for her too.” He said to Rufus smiling.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] "What's wrong with a little bit of competition?" Aria asked, smirking. "Are you scared that you'll lose if I set up a clinic on your side?" It's not like Aria would actually set up her own clinic. No, she loved animals and she loved hanging out with them, but Aria didn't think she would ever be able to run a clinic. Right now, Aria preferred just enjoying the animals' company and distracting them. Aria bit her lip when Logan asked if there was anything he could help her with. "No. It's fine. You're already helping enough by letting me spend time with dogs like Rufus here" she responded. "Besides, I know how to look after myself" She turned her attention back to Rufus when Logan said it would be okay for her to take him out during the day. That was good. It would given Rufus the change in scenery he needed, and Aria could spend more time with him. "Yeah. I'm sure this guy would enjoy a couple walks in the city. Maybe even a trip to the park with a tennis ball" she said, though Aria wasn't sure if Rufus was much of a 'fetch' kind of dog. That could be discovered later though. Aria shook her head in amusement when Logan mentioned how maybe Rufus could watch out for her too. "I'm not that bad. It's not like I actively seek trouble" she protested, which was somewhat true. Sure, Aria was known to make decisions without thinking things through and she definitely didn't hang out with the best crowd, but Aria also knew things could be worse. "If anything, I'd be the one trying to keep Rufus out of trouble. I mean look at him, he just screams 'trouble-maker'" Aria continued, though she was smiling a little. She highly doubted that Rufus could get into any trouble. No, the dog was too much of a sweetheart. She could probably walk him without a leash on and he would stay by her side, though that was something Aria did not want to test yet. Aria didn't want to go chasing a dog through the streets of Chicago. Logan chuckled as he nodded, “Oh yeah I love competition but if you did set up on my side, I’d be afraid people would like you more. So I’m sure you’d put be out of business in a week.” He explained, competition was good for any business but Logan had never considered looking after animals a business. So long as they could afford the right medicine required, Logan was happy enough not to even pull a wage from it.
“Oh I didn’t mean that you couldn’t look after yourself at all.” Logan said trying to back track wondering if he had said the wrong thing, well it had been from the right place but then when words came out of his mouth they did have a tendency to be mixed at times. “I would help you anyway I can but you know all you need to do is ask, just so you know. It’s okay to ask for help sometimes in life, it is how we all managed to be human at the end of the day.”
Logan knew he had to tell his brother that a few times over the years, the guy was so focused on making sure the family was okay that he forgot about himself. Then again Fin was hardly the guy you’d ask for help from because his help usually came with a trip to the hospital or worse for the person that you needed help with. It was occasionally handy but Logan doubted that sort of help was needed.
“You know keep talking like that and you’ll have every dog in this place wanting to come out with you to the park. Some of the humans too.” He joked though a change could be as good as a rest and as long as they were both fine about the park Logan had no issue with it at all. It could do Rufus some good and maybe Aria too, even if it just meant in a way that she had someone on her side in life. Four legs and a tail could be all that was needed.
Logan chuckled hearing she tried not to actively seek out trouble; it was strange how that happened. The more you tried to avoid it the more it managed to find you and bite. “Oh yeah, it’s that face of his and I’m sure between the two of you there will be no trouble found at all.” Logan said grinning at her, “Besides if there was I am sure your new friend here could sort it out for you.” Dogs were protective by nature and Rufus seemed to have taken to Aria so protecting her, it was hardly such a leap to make.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Aria shook her head a little when Logan said he would help her in anyway he could. The gesture was nice, and Aria did appreciate it. However, the sixteen year old also felt like she didn’t need the help. “Thanks, but I’m okay. I promise, I know what I’m doing” Aria responded, offering a small smile. That was debatable though. Aria knew she was okay, and she knew what she was doing. However, some of the stuff Aria was doing and what she was involved with could be deemed stupid or dangerous. Aria didn’t want to think about that right now. She wanted to focus on Rufus and the others. “Maybe we could arrange a day at the park for the dogs here” she suggested. “You know, find some more volunteers to help us with it. We could even advertise it. It might help some of these dogs find homes too” It sounded like a good idea in Aria’s head, and she was sure that some of the dogs here would enjoy it. However, it would require a lot of planning and finding some volunteers to help. If they could do that, then maybe it could work. She did like the idea of Rufus possibly being there to protect her. She didn’t doubt that he would try to scare someone or something off if he felt like Aria was in danger, however Aria did wonder if he would actually attack anything that was deemed a ‘threat’ or if he would just bark and growl at it. “I’m sure he would look after me. I’d look after him too” That much was true. Rufus may not actually be her dog, but Aria was going to treat him as hers until he found a permanent family. And even when that happened, Aria was probably going to still treat Rufus like hers, provided whoever took him home with them would allow her to visit him. “He needs someone to take care of him and give him love and attention. Logan smiled, nodding to her when he listened to her tell him she knew what she was doing. “You know I don’t doubt that for a second.” He stated guessing that she must do in some way or another. “Just want you to know that there are people that can and will help if you want it, you’re no on your own just like Rufus.” He said not sure if that could be taken the wrong way but then again Logan wanted her to know that she had a place if she wanted it.
It was a case of there if needed then again if she had it under control he was hardly going to tell her any different to that. “Sure that is a great idea, a day out for them.” Logan said smiling as he nodded liking the idea. “Want to help organize something like that for these guys?” It was hardly that Logan was unable to do it but then he figured if Aria helped it was an accomplishment to have done it, something she could add into the plan of hers if she needed it. A good deed done and if it got one dog a home Logan was happy enough to do that.
“Would you be willing to volunteer for that too?” He asked her grinning, “You know we can use all the help we can get and the way you are with Rufus, I am sure you can find good homes for these guys.” He added knowing it would hardly be easy to do but then it was all worth it in the end. “Now that is what I love to hear, see the more people look after their animals the more care and love they give to people. It makes the world go around.”
“It doesn’t have to be 24/7, just enough to let him know he is loved as much as the next one. Besides animals need space as much as humans do so some time on his own can be good too.” Logan added though he knew kennels gave them a lot of time to themselves. It was rare that people visited and when they did it was to get a cute dog or one that was just a puppy. Still he was glad he had brought Aria today because she seemed to be doing great with them.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Aria lowered her head, biting her lip when Logan asked if she wanted to help organize the event and volunteer there. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to, because a part of her did. It was just that it wasn’t something she had really done before. “I don’t know…” Aria began, but she stopped when her eyes met Rufus’ eyes. He was looking up at her expectantly, tail-wagging and Aria couldn’t help but think about how good it would be for him and the other dogs here. She tried to look away, ignore the look Rufus was giving her, and push the thoughts about the other dogs out of her mind. However, Aria couldn’t bring herself to do that. Letting out a sigh, Aria finally tore her gaze from Rufus and looked at Logan. “You know what? I think I will help. I don’t know where to begin though” she admitted. Being able to find the other dogs a good home...now that sounded both easy and hard. Sure Aria had gotten lucky in befriending Rufus. She could probably find him a good home, but Aria didn’t know the other dogs as well yet. And she wouldn’t know the people at the event either. There was a lot of variables and if they messed up or didn’t pair up a dog with someone who was a close match, then it could end up with an unhappy owner and an unhappy dog. “I’m not sure if I would be good at picking and choosing families. I got lucky with befriending Rufus” Aria explained, though it wasn’t really much luck now that she thought about it. No, it felt more like Rufus had chosen her. Though, Aria found herself not minding that because a part of her had chosen Rufus as well. Aria gave Logan a small smile when he said that Rufus just needed to know he was loved. “Well, you won’t have to worry about that and neither will he. I love Rufus. I’d do anything for him, even though I’ve just met him” She could try to deny it or lie about it, but Rufus had managed to steal her heart. Logan wanted to give Aria a chance, at least enough of a chance to get her to see what a good kid she really was. Hearing her ‘I do not know’ it was understandable, Logan could do a great many things but organizing something like that. He knew how much work was involved and finding time for it all was a challenge. If he had help, then a challenge became manageable and like any mountain to climb. If done with a team made things a lot easier, even if the starting point was a little blurry at first it would all fall into place eventually. He hoped.
Rufus however appeared to be doing half the convincing for him, those eyes, that tail honestly how could really say no to that? Logan chuckled as he nodded, “That’s the best thing I’ve heard all day.” He said grinning widely at Aria, “I have no idea either but we’ll start by figuring out permits and a day for this to take place. The rest I hope will just... come together.” He said with a shrug though it would do eventually, it just took time and work two things he had and knew how to do.
“Well you’re doing a pretty good job so far and you know what it’s more about being able to read the dog too. Give a kid a puppy they will be ecstatic, a cute dog they will squeal but if the dog decides the match is a no. You’ll be able to see it.” Logan said smiling, “Have a little more faith in your canine speaking abilities. You’re good with Rufus and if you see a family like you are with him, it’s a good match. If not, then we have no obligation to let things go any further than a meeting.” Logan explained not wanting Aria to think they would just let the dog go with any family.
No there were home assessments, follow up meetings and check to be done just to make sure everything was safe for all involved. “Aria I will never worry about that, I’d say you two together make the perfect match and if every other dog can have just a piece of that in their lives. They will be very lucky indeed.” He added enjoying watching the two together because really, when a dog and human were happy together it was one of the greatest things to be seen.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] “I hope it comes together easily” Aria responded. To do something like that was definitely going to take a lot of time and work. It wasn’t something they could throw together overnight. No, it didn’t work that way. “I’m only doing a good job right now because Rufus seems to like me” Aria explained. Though ‘like’ seemed to be a little too weak of a word. If anything, it was more like Rufus had chosen Aria to be his other half. “If Rufus didn’t enjoy my company or didn’t like me, he wouldn’t want anything to do with me. He’d probably just ignore me after a few seconds” Aria continued. All dogs were different. They had their own personalities and preferences. If Rufus wasn’t so enamored with her, Aria was sure it would show. She definitely wouldn’t be doing such a good job then. Aria’s gaze lowered a little when Logan mentioned that he wouldn’t worry and that her and Rufus were a perfect match. A part of her knew that was true. The way her and Rufus worked together, it was great. “I know” she mumbled as she stopped petting Rufus. “I want to take him home with me. I love him” This was the problem with getting attached to animals, especially ones that she got along with. Aria couldn’t keep them, and they deserved better. Rufus needed a family that could give him all the attention he deserved. And when he found that family, because Aria firmly believed that a dog as friendly as Rufus would find a family, he’d be happy. Aria on the other hand, would be heart-broken. Logan just smiled and nodded, he hoped it came together easily too mainly because he wanted it to work. For the day to get homes for the dogs that might not find them, the kind hearted people that would have time and patience to share their home with a loving dog. If it was up to him he would have wanted to throw a day like that every week. “Hey Rufus has good taste in people and liking you, you’ve no issue with people or animals in that sense you know. You’re good people and Rufus knows that or he never would have said hello to you.” Logan explained grinning at her.
Aria sure she might have been a little standoffish at the start, anyone would be he thought and he was hardly sold on her college idea given he figured it was the furthest thing from her mind. A dog however, they seemed like the perfect match for each other if he could even say that. “Yeah usually after I manage to try and help them out, sticking them with a sharp pointy object they turned their back on me, never matters how many treats I have or how much fuss I give them. I’m still that guy that poked them and it hurt.” Logan said chuckling.
It was hardly out of a desire to hurt anyone but then ‘the vet’ was hardly an animal’s favourite place in the world. A little like a hospital he gathered people were only there for the worst days and give his face was a worst day face, he could understand the idea to be universally hated by several breeds and species. Logan chuckled hearing Aria said she wanted to take Rufus home with her. “Listen, what if Rufus could become your dog just maybe not to take home if that worked for you?” Logan offered, “He’s pretty used to the kennels here and does well with human contact which I’m sure you’d be able to give a lot off.” He said with a smile.
“What if I could hold off on his adoption for a while? See how you two do together and then if things work out, you can pick him up to go with you and if not we can see about finding him a home you’re happy to let him go to?” Logan offered wanted Aria to be a part of the choice for Rufus. After all letting him go to a home that was unsuitable, was far from an option.
