“Really? You should meet my mother.” He joked grinning at her, “Sixteen or twenty six or thirty six... she tells us what to do all the time. My brother doesn’t scare easy but if our mother calls and he’s not ironed his shirt... you can see him go pale.” Logan joked though yes the woman had a sixth sense about those sorts of things and her telling him what to do. It was all the time age had no limit on it. Though he kept telling himself that next year it would be different. “Well I will swap with you, I’ll take doing what I want whenever I want and you can deal with my crazy family. Deal?” He asked her grinning, so sure the O’Connor house was hardly the most calm and put together. His brother was a mess most days and was a borderline criminal, his father was the sane one and his mother worried every day about everything. “It’s nice that you think that way about the animals, most people wouldn’t give moving around a second thought. You’d be amazed as to what people think their pets can put up with.” Logan added glad that she seemed to have that part understood. “But you do have friends with pets and now you have a vet too with a whole world of pets. Though you can keep the snakes and lizards... I’m not a fan of those.” Logan said grinning as he never had been a fan of calling a snake a pet. It was hardly a cuddly cute pet at all. His apartment was not a very pet friendly place for the simple reason he had nowhere to keep a pet. Sure he would have loved a dog or a cat but he would never be home enough to look after one so he had to just stick with work pets. “Yeah I’ve seen those horror movies, snakes, creepy crawlies are not my thing. If I could run when they came in I would do. Besides a tarantula ... nope, stick insects, nope all things that belong in a zoo or their natural habitat with isn’t anywhere net a vet.” Logan knew he could hardly ban them but it was hardly a comfortable appointment when they came in. He saw her face brighten when the talk changed to the puppy’s age. “Oh they are, eager and have sharp pin like teeth to so watch your fingers.” Logan added grinning, “But yeah if you can keep with the puppy them you’ve way more energy than me.” Aria Campbell,

"And give up the freedom that comes with that? No thank you. Why would I give that up?" Aria asked, shaking her head in amusement, letting out a small chuckle.
She looked down at her hands when Logan mentioned how it was nice she didn't want to put the animals through moving around constantly. "Thanks. I know animals can handle a lot more then what we give them credit for, but the constant moving isn't good for them. Just because I can handle moving from one home to the next, doesn't mean they can"
Aria offered a small smile when Logan talked about the puppy. "I'll have no problem keeping up with a puppy. Besides, somebody has to play with it and keep it entertained. And as for the teeth, I'm not worried. They're teething, so if I get bit it's not like it would be out of malice or because they feel threatened" she responded. No, a dog would growl or run in the opposite direction before it bit someone in most cases. And with puppies, well their teeth were growing so they wanted to chew on anything.
"If there's a toy rope or something there, I could probably get a couple rounds of tug-of-war in with the little thing" she added.

“Yeah you have a point but you know, just in case you want to at least you know you can. Free to a good home, a crazy mother, father and brother. They are toilet trained, can look after themselves and can and should be left alone for long periods of time. Did I mention free to a good home?” Logan added grinning, so yes he was hardly going to auction off his family even if they did make it extremely difficult for him not to take that step. Then again being the youngest of the family, it hardly helped with the getting to explore life himself phase. Logan smiled as he guessed her moving home was hardly a choice. “You know what a good pet would be for moving?” He offered, “A hamster, they have their own house to move with them and as long as they have food and water they are happy little creatures plus they need to be handled too so if you think your place to stay at the moment could handle that. I can see what I can do?” Logan offered, every kid should have a pet because pets were the people that helped everyone out. Unlike humans they talked but in a different way plus they were none judgemental about everything. As long as their place was there still, they loved everyone no matter what. “Hey you know if you ever did decide to give up that freedom you’d make a pretty good vet. Most people would run to the hills if I said they might get bit but you’re right. It’s not out of anger or evilness though humans make good chew toys.” He said with a grin glad to see she was happy enough about it to know that. “Oh there are lots of toy rope, chewy squeaky things and tennis balls though not sure they would be able to pick up a tennis ball yet. They can still chance though but we might have to go and retrieve it ourselves.” He said grinning, another favourite past time was watching owners with dogs do the same. Throw the ball in the park, watch their dog take no interest and make the jog to collect the toy themselves. Aria Campbell,

"I don't think your family would be very happy if they found out you gave them away to a sixteen year old" Aria stated, though it was obvious she was joking. She had to mess with Logan a little. "Though, I would love to see how you explained that one to them"
Aria thought about what Logan said regarding the hamsters. They were different then cats and dogs, and they were smaller. So maybe she could get away with keeping a hamster. They were also just as cute as bigger animals, if not cuter. "I'll ask and see if I can keep one" Aria promised.
She shrugged, ducking her head in embarrassment, when Logan mentioned how she would make a good vet. "I mean, I guess. It's just common knowledge though. Animals won't harm you unless they feel threatened. And even then, it's more likely that they will run."
Aria didn't have the heart to tell Logan that there was no way she could become a vet. She wasn't going to get a college education, let alone a high school one. Aria wasn't about to say that though. No, she'd continue to let Logan believe that she had already graduated from high school and was taking a gap year. It was easier, and wouldn't end up with Aria getting a lecture or being told about how she'd regret her decision because Aria didn't regret it. Though, she did wonder what it would be like if she had stuck with school. Maybe she would've ended up in college and become a vet...
"I'm pretty sure the pup would find it amusing if we had to retrieve the ball. It would be like we were playing fetch by ourselves" Aria said, smiling a little. "And the pup could just roll around in the grass and get dirty"
Aria tried to imagine that scenario. The two of them having to retrieve the ball because the puppy was too preoccupied with the grass and dirt to want anything to do with fetch. "I think it would be best if we just stuck to the rope and the chew toys for now. Maybe roll the tennis ball to them and try to get them interested"

“You never know, I’m sure they’d like you plus it would give me a break from them so feel free to adopt them any time. Just watch out for my brother, he’s grump.” Logan teased as he laughed wondering how he would explain it to them at all. “I could always go down the route of... hey guys, how do you all fancy an expenses paid holiday? Or just dump them and run like the wind.”
Logan smiled and nodded to Aria when she spoke about asking to keep a hamster. Small and in an enclosed space, it was the sort of pet that required work but also could keep to itself and not make too much of a mess. Logan had absolute faith that Aria could do anything she wanted to put her mind to and he might not entirely be clued up about her situation but at the end of the day. People did what they wanted and if you were happy it was half of the battle of life.
Sure if Logan knew he might have told her how great school could be, maybe gone with her to visit a few colleges to at least show her what it could be like but then he hardly wanted to pry into her private life. As much as he could handle someone digging into his, sure his parents were sane but his brother no. He was a criminal and yes it was a sore point but after everything, the guy had at least won his respect to turn the other cheek and ignore what his brother did for a living.
“Yeah I think it’s pretty much what it will be like. Unless we start rolling around in the grass trying to teach them tricks but then once that starts... we know we need to get help.” Logan joked grinning, “But sure I’ve run after plenty of tennis balls in my years. There used to be a dog there that he would only get the ball if you set of running for it first. Then he would beat you, if you didn’t run to get it he would just sit there and stare you out until you made a move.” He explained grinning having seen a few characters through the place over the years.
“Rope and chew toys sound like a good plan, the meal time then they like to sleep a lot... like go crazy for an hour then drop off to sleep. Just like that. I think it would be good to have the life of a puppy.” Logan mused as he took a turn in the truck and followed the signs for the kennels.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] "And leave me to deal with the aftermath of them finding out you gave them away?" Aria asked, smiling. She had dealt with many things, but that would definitely top the list. "No thank you. I'm not about to break that news to them. You can keep them. Besides, they're your family" "Though, for the record, I could probably handle your brother. It wouldn't be the first time I had to deal with someone who enjoyed being grumpy" Aria pointed out, chuckling. Aria herself had been grumpy at times, but she mainly dealt with it in the system. The sixteen year old could think of several foster siblings and foster parents she had who were grumpy. "The trick is, to either be grumpy right back until they can't take it anymore because you've driven them insane. Or be overly optimistic. It varies depending on the person" "You definitely wouldn't have to worry about anything" Aria agreed when Logan mentioned how good it would be to be a puppy. "You could play and sleep whenever, and nobody would judge you for it. You wouldn't be told that you're too active or too lazy because of it either" Aria straightened up a little in her seat, peering out the window when she saw the signs for the kennels. She knew they were getting closer, and the teen couldn't wait. Aria wanted to play with the animals for as long as she could. "We're almost there" she noted, not looking away from the window. Aria was growing more excited and restless. “Are you sure, like I said they are free and toilet trained... mainly perfect apart from a few issues here and there.” Logan offered again grinning, “Fine looks like I’m keeping them but you know if you ever need them, the offer is there. I’m sure they would be glad to have a new two legged member of the family because I think they might disown me if I bring anymore rescues home.” Logan added knowing he tried his best to put every animal that needed a home to one of his family members.
Logan laughed as he nodded to her. “So tell me do you have any tips for dealing with grumpy people? Because I could use some, food has failed me at times so could use all the help I can get with him.” Logan asked as really his brother was a teddy bear at times and other times, a dragon with a point to prove. He just tried to stay out of his brother’s way on days like that. “I like you’re style with that, more grumpy than they are or optimistic. Nice, you know you’d make a good cop too i’d say. The whole dealing with grumpy people you’ve got pegged.”
Being a puppy would be good, play, sleep, eat and all while looking insanely cute. It was really a dogs life to be had but only if you got the good owners, bad ones and it was better being on two legs at times. “See you make it sound great, laying out in the garden all day chasing a toy. All the hugs you could want. Pretty good to be a puppy.” He said with a grin, where as a cat just stalked around looking grumpy all day.
Logan nodded as he grinned seeing how Aria was acting. “I’m glad you’re looking forward to it, first time I’ve ever had anyone this eager to get here before.” Logan added thought he hardly made it a habit to take people for the simple reason it was fifty fifty if they liked animals. And introducing someone to the animals that might disappear, well he had a hope that Aria might come around from time to time to meet them all. It was great for stress and it was a nice break from life outside of the kennels.
There were those days when he wanted to ask if he could rent a kennel for himself just for the peace and quiet but then. It was likely a bad ideas as he would try to adopt the other occupants and take them home. Logan pointed out of the window as he saw the gate up head. “See, there you go. One kennels coming right up.” He stated as he glanced toward Aria smiling.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Aria gave a small smile. "What can I say, I have some experience in the field of dealing with grumpy people" she explained. She nodded when Logan mentioned how she made it sound great to be a puppy. When Aria thought about it, puppies had a great life. They found homes easily because of their age, and they weren't constantly moved around. No, in most cases they found a home and stayed there until they died of age. "Not to mention the lack of moving around. A puppy finds a house, and gets to stay there" Aria added. "They don't have to constantly move" Aria looked up at Logan when he mentioned this was the first time he ever had anyone this eager to be her. "Of course I'm looking forward to it. There's dogs in there that need attention" she explained before returning her attention to the window Sure, there was a sinking feeling in Aria's stomach because she knew what would happen. Despite telling herself that she wouldn't get attached to any of the dogs, the sixteen year old knew that was a lie. Truthfully, Aria related to the dogs here more then she cared to admit. Aria would end up getting attached because of that, and it would hurt the day one of the dogs got adopted but she'd have to deal. Snapping out of her thoughts, Aria looked in the direction that Logan was pointing. Sure enough, there was a gate in front of them. "Do you think I could go ahead and head in while you park?" Aria pleaded, turning to look at Logan. Aria knew she was being impatient, and that she could probably wait the extra minute or so it took to park the truck. However, Aria was also excited and she wanted to play with the dogs for as long as she could. She might not know where to go, but surely it couldn't be too hard to find, especially if she explained she was here to play with the dogs. Logan smiled for a moment, he wondered what she meant by grump but then he hardly wanted to scare her off with trying to talk about personal issues. He had just tried to swap his own family so well pushing the issue was likely only going to back fire badly. “Nope the puppies are the lucky ones but it does depend a lot on the family that has them.” Logan said knowing that the life on an animal did depend an awful lot on that.
“If they get a bad one they can lose out or even just a bad set of circumstances. But for most puppies it’s a happy ending so as long as we get to be those sorts it would be a good life to have. Too cute to be told no to, you could chew all the slippers you wanted to and just put on those eyes where there’s no chance anyone can be mad.” He said with a grin, oh yeah he knew those sorts of eyes all too well.
Seeing someone so eager made a real change, usually when people were at the surgery it was like a chore out of their day. The suited and booted kind who had another place to be and were there because they had to be but Aria. No she seemed genuinely please to be going to see them which was nice. It also made the day a little easier given he usually never had company on the trip. “I know, it’s good that you’re excited to be there.” He said as he eagerness was easily translated.
It had been a while since he had looked forward to seeing the look on someone’s face to meet any of the dogs there. He more often than not signed off the dog for a new home and then something would happen, a change of circumstances or just a wrong fit for the dog. Then they were right back at the start again, looking after them and keeping them in good shape for the next potential owner.
Logan laughed hearing the question as he nodded and slowed the truck to a stop. “Just say at the door that Logan said it was okay.” He added as he grinned at her, honestly it was lovely to see someone so excited to be there as he waited for her to make a run for it. “I’ll be there in five once I’ve got my stuff.” He added as he watched her, he knew where to park as he had done the same move over and over again at this place.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] Aria's face brightened when Logan said she could go ahead and head inside. The sixteen year old hadn't expected him to agree to it. Instead, she had been expecting Logan to tell her to wait. "Really? Thank you!" Within seconds, Aria was out of her seatbelt and getting out of the truck. She didn't bother to wait to hear Logan's reply. She quickly made her way over to the building and did as Logan said, explaining that she was with him and that he had said it was okay. It wasn't long before Aria was in the back where the dogs were. She stopped in front of one pen and looked inside. Looking back at her was a medium sized dog with a grey pelt and black spots. Aria couldn't tell what breed they were, or their age, but she didn't care. "Hey there" she greeted the dog, causing it to wag its tail. "Aren't you a cool looking dog?" Aria didn't hesitate in unlocking the pen. She sat down a few inches away in order to let the dog decide if it wanted to come out or not. Within seconds, the grey and black dog was out and licking Aria as its tail wagged happily. "Oh you're such a sweetheart!" Aria said, laughing as she interacted with the dog. Most people hated getting licked, but the sixteen year old didn't mind. She scratched the dog behind the ears a little bit, smiling. Aria would never admit it out loud, but she needed this right now. Logan just smiled as he heard her thank you and the surprise that he would let her go ahead. Well it was hardly as if he could keep her in the car, he thought if she was any more excited she might have hopped out while the car was still moving. It was good to see someone that enthusiastic about going there, it was a nice change and the company was good too.
He normally made the drive himself, spend a few hours there and headed back no matter what the outcome of the day so far. Logan grabbed his things from the back of the truck, it was just his bag and jacket and a bucket of tennis balls and toys for the dogs. He knew how they could go through them so he brought some along when the surgery got new things in.
Walking up to the pens he smiled seeing Aria was already in one of the pens with one of the dogs. He was sure the visit would help the dogs as much as it might help Aria as he watched the two happily for a moment. Logan was amazed that she hardly shied away from being licked by the dog then again the day had been full of surprises for him.
Logan went to the office to tell the others that they were there and to tell them about Aria. Given the owners joy at the fact someone had taken an interested Logan figured there was no issue at all. Walking back out the bucket of toys in hand he smiled as he opened the pen and placed the bucket next to Aria. “You can dish these out if you want to and if you dig to the bottom of the bucket, there are some treats too.” He offered smiling as he read over the paperwork for the dog as he smiled.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] "Thank you" Aria said as she kept petting the dog with one hand and dug through the bucket with the other. She found the bag of treats and opened it. "Ready?" Aria asked, looking at the dog who now sat patiently though their tail still wagged at a fast pace. Holding the treat in her hand, Aria smiled at the dog. "Down" the sixteen year old continued, lowering the treat to the ground so the dog could see what she wanted it to do. Slowly, the dog lowered itself until it was lying down. "Good dog" Aria praised, giving the dog the treat. She then turned her attention back to Logan. "What's their name?" Aria asked, noticing that Logan had the paperwork. "I'd really rather not call them 'dog' and 'it' forever" As if knowing that Aria was talking about them, the dog inched closer to Aria and rested it's head in her lap. Aria could only laugh as she looked at the dog and then at Logan. "Do you see this? He acts like he never gets attention" It was true, the dog was acting like he had been starved of attention and Aria was falling for it as she kept rubbing his head and scratching behind the ears. It was obvious that she was growing fond of the dog that was in front of her. If Aria could, she'd probably take him home with her today. After all, the dog did seem friendly enough and appeared to enjoy her company. However, Aria knew that she couldn't take the dog home with her. She also knew that she shouldn't be getting attached because it would end in heartbreak down the road. But looking down at the dog, who's eyes stared right up at her while it wagged it's tail...well, Aria couldn't help but fall in love with him. "If he keeps this up, I'm going to have to sneak him home with me" Aria said, only half joking. Logan watched the dog follow Aria’s commands, it was nice to see her interact with the animals and better yet to see them interact with her too. She seemed to be happy enough as he watched her play with them. Dogs and people they could do a world of good for each other if given half a chance. He had thought about getting his brother a dog after his accident but then even the humans struggled to stay around him and his mood swings so a dog. It was hardly fair to ask that of a dog though now he had a feeling he might have mellowed to the idea.
Logan glanced over the paperwork as he came across the dogs name. “Rufus.” Logan said, “This handsome boy is Rufus. Rufus meet Aria.” Logan added grinning at Aria. Seeing Rufus inch closer to Aria and place his head in her lap he smiled and Logan nodded. “Oh some of these dogs dont get much of it. I’m not here as often as I’d like and beyond a few walks and a handful of visitors they don’t get much in the way of attention.” Logan explained though he was sad to say such a thing.
“You know it might not be a bad thing, I think he likes you.” Logan said, “But if you can’t sneak him home you know you’re always welcome here any time. Besides I think you’ve made a friend for life with this guy.” Watching the two together honestly it was the best feeling in the world. To see how happy they both were it was nice to finally see someone who was excited to be there and that also got along with the dogs too. “How would you feel about distracting him for a couple of minutes while I update his shots?” Logan asked Aria smiling, if the two got on then it would make it a lot easier for Rufus to be distracted while he managed to get the dog his updated shots. At least in theory that was.

[attr="class","Ariatitle"] [attr="class","Aria"] [attr="class","Ariabox"]everything's made to be broken, i just want you to know who i am [attr="class","Ariamain"] "Hello Rufus. Aren't you a sweet boy?" Aria cooed as she continued to pet him, she frowned a little though when Logan mentioned how some of the dogs didn't get a lot of attention. Aria knew that it shouldn't be too surprising. Not everybody liked going to kennels and volunteering there. And when they did, it was usually to play with the puppies. Aria liked puppies too, and would probably play with the puppy later, but right now her heart belonged to Rufus. So what if he wasn't an actual puppy? He pretty much acted like one and that was close enough. It wasn't something Aria wanted to think about right now though. No, she just wanted to focus on the dogs right now. "I like him too. He's a very sweet dog" Aria replied, briefly glancing up at Logan before returning her attention to Rufus. Aria smiled a little when Logan said that she made a friend for life. The sixteen year old could believe it, given how friendly Rufus was right now and how he seemed to enjoy her company. "I could believe it, given how he doesn't seem to want to leave me alone" Not that Aria minded. If Rufus wanted to follow her around and let Aria play with him, then the teenager would happily oblige. Aria shrugged when Logan asked if she could distract Rufus while he got his shots. "I don't mind. It'll probably make it easy on this guy anyways" she replied, moving Rufus' head so that she could get up. "How long has Rufus been here? Do you know?" Aria asked, as she looked down at the dog. Watching Aria and Rufus it was nice to see the two getting along so well, honestly it was nice to finally see someone taking an interest in the dogs. Visitors were at a minimum and between the dogs over excitement in seeing someone he knew a lot of people could be put off by it.
Then again if they were Logan knew they would never be the right fit to have a dog in the first place. “He is, he’s one of the nicest dogs that I’ve seen here, super friendly and a true reflection of mans best friend.” Logan explained smiling though seeing Rufus take to Aria it was a nice site to be honest. A sight he wished he could see every day but often it was hardly the case. “Oh he knows good people, and you’re a good person so sure he won’t ever leave you alone now.” Logan added happily glad that the two of them were getting along.
“It will do plus better they don’t see it coming either. I don’t want to lose a finger or a hand because I’m trying to help him.” Logan joked though he knew that Rufus was as good as gold. Logan started to reach into his bag as he readied the shots for Rufus. “He’s been here as long as I’ve been coming here so about three or more years.” Logan said as he ran a hand through Rufus’ coat. “No idea why he hasn’t been snapped up by someone because he’s a lovely dog. Then again I think they all are but I guess choosing a dog as much about the human as it is their friend.”
Logan knew there was a lot that went into choosing the right animal but then people often forgot the animal had a choice too. To Logan, he figured Rufus had been waiting on that right person to come and get him though by the looks of it Aria might be that person. “So you ready?” Logan asked Aria smiling as he hovered with the shots.
