Thomas had drawn the really short straw that day, a talk for the local PD. Yeah just what he wanted to be doing as the box of pamphlets and cards were dropped on his desk. He hated the guy from HRT now, some agent Cameron had managed to pull a case and Thomas was the only one who had nothing but paperwork that day. Great, short straw and CPD to deal with though the upside was maybe he could see Sharon in between times. After all a two hour talk on the do’s and don’ts of suspect handling in the new twenty first centaury police force.
It had to be an easy enough job he thought as he acquainted himself with the PowerPoint, leaflets and speech cards. Thomas made his way over to the twenty first district as he met a Sgt. Platt at the front desk who showed him through to a room to set up. A ten minute set up and his PowerPoint was up with the questions and images required, he had the leaflets ready to hand out as he nodded to Platt that he was ready. Yeah great, two hours of this and he was already wanted to run out of there as he stood at the front of the room as he watched a few of the faces come in.
“Good morning.” He said trying to sound cheery which he guessed he wanted to be there as much as the people attending. “I’m Agent Ja... Voight. Agent Voight and I’ll be running through the talk today. Agent Cameron has a situation to deal with presently.” Thomas said still getting used to his new surname as he tried to keep the bitterness toward the other agent out of his voice. He wanst entirely sure it worked but then having to do this wasnt exactly high on his to do list for the day. If he could have found Debra he would have pleaded she take this one. After all she was the boss and likely better equipped to be taken seriously.
Thomas didnt even have a chance to blink before Platt turned out the lights so the screen to the side of him came to life. “Today we’re going to be going through the correct and in correct way to handle a suspect. Because this doesn’t only affect the police department, it has greater ramifications for the courts as well. Do this part wrong and a case can fall apart much further down the line.” Thomas read as he placed down a stack of leaflets next to one of the cops. “Take one and pass it along, please.” He asked still feeling like he wanted to get out of there but there wasnt an escape button to be found.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged notes -- | Sharon was stuck in this class that the FBI was doing because she’d gotten written up for handling a suspect incorrectly. She’d told Thomas about the incident and that she’d had a training class but how was she to know what she’d end up dealing with him for a teacher. Sharon wanted to bury her head in her book the moment he walked in. Well this was going to be rather painful on her end. No if ands or buts about it.
Just when she thought she could hide Hank’s boss came wandering into the room and calling out names. Calling out names she knew she would be at the bottom of the list. “Officer Voight?” Ugh, did she really have to answer? What was this first grade?
“Here” she raised her hand and then placed her head back on her desk, yeah… if Thomas hadn’t seen her before she was a dead giveaway now. She rolled her eyes in the back of her head. Nope Sharon didn’t want to be here either. She was fairly certain her dad had his way of skipping out on these classes.
The stack of leaflets landed next to Sharon’s head. She looked up and gave him the ‘this isn’t happening’ face before taking a leaflet and passing them down the line. It wasn’t like Sharon had intentionally done anything wrong. She’d been doing her job when everything hit the fan. Her mistake had been made in error when keeping Braden from being injured. Now, she got to pay the price. Maybe she’d get an enjoyable lunch break out of it later?

Thomas listened to the names that were called out, sure he knew a few from the FBI cases that crossed over but then there was that name. Officer Voight? Had they gotten him confused he wondered but it wasnt until he heard that familiar voice he knew that this was ‘that’ course. That same course Sharon had told him about and the reason she was in it, it was rubbish that she was there in the first place but this just went from an inconvenience to a whole other set of issues for him.
He tried not to grin when he saw her but that failed as he was a little more enthusiastic about doing this now. Maybe Cameron wasn’t so evil, still mean and an idiot but maybe not entirely evil in his mind. Thomas was surprised the older Voight wasnt there but then again it paid to be the boss at times. When the stack of leaflets landed by her Thomas grinned seeing the look on her face. “That’s the spirit Officer Voight.” He said trying to be encouraging even though now it was threatening to be embarrassing.
At least lunch would be enjoyable unless Sharon wanted to kill him by that point. Well it could have been worse he thought, there could have been Hank as well. Thomas moved back to the front trying not to be too distracted by the fact that his wife was actually in the course for the morning. No focus, he had a job and his boss might string him up if he did it wrong. “So each of you know why you got here, man handling a suspect isn’t the way to go unless they present an imminent danger to you or your partner. Sure we all might have that day where a smart mouth and a bad temper meet but it isn’t the way we do things in this precinct or city.” Thomas stated trying to keep the grin from his face as he looked over to Sharon.
“Now if you can all read the leaflet, pick a don’t point from it and tell me why it’s a bad idea.” Thomas said as he glanced through the shiny folded paper it was fairly straight forwards. A list of do’s and don’ts nothing too taxing but still if it needed to be said it was why he was there in the first place. “And then tell me why you are in this class in the first place.” Thomas asked as he glanced at Sharon. “Let’s start with this side of the room.” He added as he motioned to where Sharon was sat. Well where was the fun in things if he couldnt try and make things funny and easier on both of them.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged notes -- | Sharon did not want to be here. Thomas was making it worse by putting the spotlight on her. She flipped her leaflet over. Really? She wasn’t going to open it. End of story. She was pretty certain that protecting your partner wasn’t in the leaflet. Too bad she couldn’t just say pass. Yeah, no her husband putting her on the spot. That actually bothered her. The glance of disdain said as much to him when he started putting her on the spot.
Maybe this was his idea of fun, but she was not really in the mood. Sighing, Sharon started trying to ignore all the reasons she could think of why she didn’t need to be in this class. In her case, she’d simply been protecting her partner. Partners did that. It wasn’t excessive use of force if you exerted the proper amount of force needed to control a suspect. The fact the guy had broken his nose on the car? Well maybe he should have not headbanged it in the first place. That wasn’t really on Sharon. The man had been under arrest for trying to interfere with Braden’s arrest of a brother or something.
“Protecting your partner from a hostile suspect isn’t covered in your leaflet. I’ll pass.” Nope, she was not going to play ball and if it meant being sarcastic and a smart ass, then she was well willing to live up to her surname. It wasn’t like she’d been trying to hurt the suspect. The fact he had done that on his own and then threatened to sue the CPD. Well she was sure at some point the cameras would prove her point and then this class would just be a waste of her time.

Thomas saw the glance of disdain as he knew that lunch now had to be great to make up for this. Normally Thomas wouldnt have done that but then his wife being in the class he had to at least show he was impartial or attempt to. Thomas knew what Sharon had told him and her reason for being in that class was the best one. She was doing her job and protecting her partner like any cop would do. He listened to her answer as he realised she wasnt going to play ball at all with this. Did he really have to tell her that he was here with about as much interest as she was?
“Now you are the perfect one to tell everyone why you are here because of that. How many other people in this room are here because you protected your partner from a hostile suspect?” He asked as he gave a quick glance around. Maybe about half the class he figured as he looked back at Sharon. “Passing isn’t really an option today, if you fail then you’re right back in this class again and again and again.” Thomas said though he wasnt trying to make it difficult, Sharon was the only person he knew in this class.
Thomas just about caught the tail end of a comment across the room about a Voight and irony of a Voight teaching the class. Thomas just about glared at the person that had said it, “Want to explain that at all?” Thomas snapped forgetting for a moment he had swapped is name. He assumed it was aimed to Sharon though the minute he remembered he wasnt a Jackson anymore. Thomas wouldnt have been surprised if it had been Hank that was there but the man seemed to break free of the class somehow though Thomas was glad.
Until now at least as he gave Sharon an apologetic look for a moment. Great even now Hank was causing him issues beyond being shot on the guys living room floor. Nope, of course this was the worlds worst class to take at CPD. “If you’ve got a problem with me here then you can leave and come back next week but be prepared for desk duty until then. Agent Cameron isn’t as nice as me, trust me.” Thomas said figuring the guy was awful already given the fact he was even there. Sure lunch with Sharon was fantastic and any excuse but this was torture first with the risk of annoying his wife that had seemed to already happen.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged notes -- | Sharon glared at her husband. He knew exactly why she was here? So he chose her to pick on. What was this all coming to? No, she wasn’t going to play nice and she wasn’t going to take this class seriously. Sharon already knew how to handle a suspect. In fact, most of the times she treated them with kid gloves. Being a Voight she already had the cards stacked against her. Not something she expected Thomas to really understand… yet. She’d mentioned it when they had decided on him taking her name. Taking his name would have been the easy way out of a mess like she was in now but she’d been sick of changing her name so many times.
“Then I will sit in this class until they realize that protecting your partner comes first.” She decided she was going to give Thomas (and the rest of the class) a lecture. “No one has time to check if their handcuffs have two finger lengths between the cuffs and the wrist or if you grabbed a pressure point properly when you are defending someone. You don’t think, you react and hope your training doesn’t land your ass in this class.” Tossing the pamphlet to the side she crossed her leg over her knee and leaned back in her chair.
Then there was the banter about a Voight coming from the back of the room. She was going to turn around and say something when Thomas handled it well enough, at least so she figured. It was a name for crying out loud. People got so hung up on them. Though she was one to talk, she was tired of changing her name after so many name changes.
Sharon ignored his apologetic look. There was nothing to be sorry for. The guy could either get with the program or he could walk out like Thomas had said. Sharon would have already walked out if it weren’t for Thomas being in the class. She had more respect for her husband than that. The least she could do was stay and even if she was getting an attitude, at least she was sticking the class out.

Thomas stood back and let Sharon get it out of her system, lecture or not he knew she hadn’t done anything wrong but that didnt change the fact she was in the class and he was trying to teach it. It wasnt exactly the most perfect circumstances but it wasnt like he had much of a choice in the matter. “Yeah but your ass is in this class and it’s here for a reason, right or wrong.” Thomas said, he didnt want to snap at her but it wasnt like he had a choice in teaching the class.
“So since you’re here because of your restraint issue with that particular case, why don’t you demonstrate to the class the correct procedure to cuff a suspect.” Thomas suggested as he stood back, “Pick anyone you like.” Hell if he was getting lip for a name then this class wasnt one he wanted to take again. Making a big deal of it was likely only going to make things worse and the last thing he needed was anyone else hating the FBI and ruining his marriage in the process of that. There were things he valued a lot more than a class and Sharon was right at the top of his list.
Thomas started to pass out a few more pamphlets, the corrected handcuffing procedure, the right way to subdue a suspect and all the pressure points and locks that went with it. He didnt doubt that half the people in that room knew it all, half of them probably had a good reason for using force but then it wasnt like he could look at every case and judge it for himself. No everyone stuck there was stuck for a reason and that had nothing to do with him.
Thomas glanced at Sharon for a moment; he was trying to make it easier on her in his own way though given the guy still ranted about a Voight taking the class Thomas just chose to ignore the guy. It was grating but there wasnt much he could do. “Then we can practice when to use a taser and not your duty weapon.” Thomas said glaring right at the guy, oh first to be shot was him and Thomas was sure he would enjoy every second of it. The one person that wouldnt be shot was Sharon and he would make sure of that if it was that last thing he did in that class.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged notes -- | Sharon grabbed her handcuffs out of her back pocket and marched towards the front of the room. Grabbing Thomas’ hand from his side she didn’t hesitate to push Thomas face first into the wall while using his one hand to control his movements. If he stepped back, she had his hand in such a position that she was the one in control of where he moved. Just in the right position to apply pressure to keep him from fighting back against her. She balanced her feet so she would keep her balance if he tried to throw her off and she snapped the cuffs on the hand she had. There was the required amount of room between the handcuffs and his wrists and everything.
“You have the right to stop being a federal pain in my ass, anything you say can and will be used against you in the classroom. You have the right to do things the way of the CPD or not at all, if you cannot handle it, then maybe you shouldn’t be here.” She whispered it in his ear so the class wouldn’t hear it. No, she didn’t need them getting any ideas. Clasping the handcuff on the other wrist she put him face down on the desk. Though she didn’t push him hard enough to hurt him. Holding his hands up where the others could see that she had the required amount of room.
Then she dropped his hands, uncuffed him, and then tossed her handcuffs on his desk. “Keep them Agent Voight. You might need them.” Oh Sharon knew exactly what this class all entailed. She’d been taser certified, and pepper sprayed too. That required getting both used on her and it wasn’t something she was looking forward to repeating but it was part of the process.

Thomas watched Sharon march toward the front of the room, well this was new he thought as he was surprised by her sudden participation. When she grabbed his hand from his side and pushed him face first into the wall, yeah that was pretty much a surprise too but one that he grinned at. He resisted a little but it didnt exactly get him anywhere given that Sharon had control of his movements. He tried to step back and wriggle free but yeah it wasnt like that was happening at all. Hearing the cuffs snap onto his wrists he had so many things he could say to her about that but in front of the CPD yeah safer to keep his mouth shut and go with it.
When Thomas heard the rights he was read he still had that smirk on his face. “And you have the right to stop being a CPD pain in my ass. Anything you do in this classroom might be used against you at home and no fed is ever doing anything the CPD way.” He whispered right back at her. It wasnt that Thomas played the who game of who was better but then again, Sharon wasnt the one against the wall with her wrists in handcuffs. When he was face down on the desk Thomas rolled his eyes, yeah he could almost see the look of approval from the others in the room for Sharon. Sure he was impressed too but being manipulated like that. Not so much fun.
“Thank you Officer Voight, but I’d hate to take these away from you. You would need them for the next guy you arrest... correctly and with the appropriate force.” Thomas stated holding them out for her on the end of his finger as he rolled his shoulders slightly. Sure the handcuff part was easy enough but the taser and pepper spray part of the class. Could he even put his wife through that? Right now he wished it was the other fed that was there, at least that way he wouldn’t be directly responsible for causing his wife pain and discomfort.
It was going to be a pretty interesting evening, unless he would work late like really late and just not go home. At this point it might be the safer option. “Well then Officer Voight since you’re taking to the demonstrating so well, why don’t you pick a fellow officer to taser you for the day?” He asked trying not to have a guilty look about his face even though he felt it. There was no way he could taser her himself without deliberately missing her so he could at least be there to catch her when she inevitably fell over. Simply to make sure she didnt hit the ground face first, which would mean he wasnt going to go home for a week if she did.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged notes -- | Thomas had practically asked for it when he had come into the class acting like she needed to be here. Sure now he was under Sharon’s skin. So she was going to give him the sarcastic sass that she would give any instructor. When he started talking she just rolled her eyes in response. Though she said nothing. She was fed up with being treated like she did something wrong and so long as he had her in the class… she was going to be the biggest pain in the ass that she could be. “I’m not here to learn anything.” She added where only he could hear her. “I’m here because my dad’s boss says I have to be. Keep trying me. I’m not in the mood.” She retorted before throwing the handcuffs right back on the table that Thomas was using. Nope, absolutely no mood and she was basically telling him to shove it.
Then he mentioned being tasered. “Oh is my taser certification not enough for the feds?” She replied sarcastically. So help him if she got tasered, he wasn’t going to need to hide for a week, she’d hibernate at her dad’s place. Though quite certain trying to explain that to her dad would go over so well. Nope there was no way that Thomas would be able to talk his way out of that one. Suddenly, she wasn’t looking forward to a lunch break. She was likely to use it to bury herself in work.

Thomas stared at the handcuffs she had thrown back onto the table as he picked them up. “Yeah and you cant leave this class until I sign off on it either so unless you want to be back tomorrow. Figure out what it is you’re here to learn.” Thomas said though tomorrow he was going to make himself completely unavailable for this class. His wife was already telling him to shove it in not so many words which also meant that his plans for lunch. Yeah he had better not be too enthusiastic about that he figured.
By lunch he wasnt even sure if they would still be speaking. “No it’s fine for the feds, it’s the CPD that makes you take this class and the CPD that wants you to do it over again.” Thomas stated as he tried to keep himself calm and not just call her out on being his wife. Sure it was tempting to ask her to step outside and figure things out in the hallway and not the front of the room but then again. He was trying to do his job the best he knew how.
“Now if you don’t feel up to re-qualifying officer then that’s fine with me. You can come back tomorrow and sit through the exact same speech, it’s not my day that will be ruined.” He stated as he took out the taser from the box he had and the fresh cartridge. “So the other option is you taser me and I’m sure that would be much more to your liking for the day.” Thomas said as he glanced around the other faces. “Everyone else pick someone to be tasered among yourselves.” He said as he held out the gun for Sharon.
Sure recent events taken into account, it might not have been his best idea to be tasered but then again. If it saved his relationship with Sharon right now, sure he could take it. Even if he was sure CPD would let him fall on his face while he did it. He wasnt exactly liked given his fed status but hey, what was one fed in the room going to do. It solved the problem and he wasnt about to taser his wife so it fixed that issue too.

[googlefont="Kranky:400;"] tagged notes -- | Part of tazer retraining meant everyone in the room had to be tazered. She wasn’t really happy to be playing the feds. If CPD wanted things done a certain way they should have called in one of their own people not a fed. Sharon wasn’t exactly trying to play along. Though the minute Sharon had the tazer gun in her hand she didn’t really want to tazer her husband properly, so instead she aimed for his ass. More likely to sting than to do the job properly. There weren’t really nerve endings to latch onto.
She pulled the trigger on the gun letting it do its job before she pulled the sharp darts out of his skin. “So come fare il mio lavoro” (I know how to do my job) She whispered in his ear as she grabbed one of the guys from patrol. She handed him the tazer and motioned for two of the others to keep her from falling flat on her face. Really she had no idea whose arms she had when the tazer hit her back she gritted her teeth and bent over at the waist. All normal reactions as she was helped to her knees and then finally into a laying down position.
The officer who had tazered her carefully took the darts out of her back. She took a few breaths. “Good Aim.” She mumbled into the mat on the floor. Reaching for a hand up she pulled up to her knees and took another few deep breaths. “Son of a…” She forgot how much trying to hold in the pain hurt the first time she’d had that happen.
Moving towards the other officer she playfully punched his shoulder. She’d come a long way since she’d come to trust Hank, Thomas, and Braden. She was comfortable around her colleagues and it was starting to show in her confidence. “That all you got Voight? You hit like a girl.”
Sharon laughed. “Newsflash Barker, I am a girl.” She took her seat and took a sip of her water.

Thomas shrieked the minute he felt the tazer hit his ass. Great now that had gone oh so well he thought as instead of his entire body being paralysed his legs just gave way for a few seconds. Even when Sharon went over to pull the darts out of his skin he winced. Not fair at all he thought as he nodded to her. “Non hai mai dubitato di te per un secondo. Solo cercando di fare il mio.” (Never doubted you for a second. Only trying to do mine.) Thomas replied to her as he watched her grab a guy from patrol.
Watching the guy from patrol tazer his wife Thomas had to stop himself for reaching for his own gun. Not the pronged type either, no that wasnt acceptable as he forced himself to stay where he was. Good aim? No crap aim, a good one wouldnt have hit his wife at all he thought as he watched her. Thomas stood there and bit his lip as he glared at Barker. A girl, a woman and his wife and this was all kinds of awkward he thought as he tried to shake his own tazering off before walking over to Sharon.
It was nice to see she was confident again, different from the first time he had met her though then again the shooting was the same sentiment. He couldnt have been more proud of her and how far she had come, he could still remember trying to brush her hair out of her eyes and the flinch she had when he did it. How long it had taken for that to get a little better and then to find out the reasons behind it all.
Thomas was doing his best to try and seem casual about everything as he made his way to Sharon. “Are you alright?” He asked her wanting to make sure she was, one for the same reason that getting shot with a tazer wasnt fun and two he had seen another guy shoot his wife. Not that he wanted to be in a habit of it but it was disturbing. “I don’t want to make an issue from today. I will make it up to you I promise.” Thomas added almost wanting to plead that he was trying to do his job and this was just as difficult for both sides.

[attr="class","Sharonner"] [attr="class","Sharonner1"] [attr="class","Sharonback"] [attr="class","Sharonnert"]Sharon looked at her husband dead in the face. “One word. Pita.” She really wasn’t in any sort of mood to be messed with today. Though she glared at him slightly he came to see if she was alright. “I’m just another officer taking your class Agent Voight.” She couldn’t wait for this class to be over. A hot bath and a relaxing evening would be nice. No, she didn’t want to go anywhere. Sharon was sure that she was going to end up at her dad’s house if this continued. That would at least give her time to cool off or something. Promises that he would make things up to her, yeah she was still getting used to promises being made to her, in the past it was always once no one kept. Trust was easier than broken promises. He was walking in dangerous territory. “You’d better be able to keep that promise.” Or he was going to be in a world of hurt. No, Sharon hated promises. She hated them more than being here. This day was still trying to find the ninth layer of hell. Sharon rubbed her back where one of the darts had hit her back and she went to go sit back down in her seat while the others did what they were expected to do. Sharon could be a handful on her best of days, but on her worst of days? There was very little that could deter her bad attitude. [googlefont="Oswald"][googlefont="Allura"][googlefont="Abel"] YOUR LOVE is my drug Pita, it was far better than being shot he thought though if looks could shoot bullets. He was pretty sure she might have done that, Thomas didnt care too much about her glaring at him. No he was checking on his wife to make sure she was alright, class would be there tomorrow and Sharon. All he wanted to do was to make sure she was alright which apparently was backfire big style. “You really believe that Officer Voight?” Thomas asked her not sure if he was overreacting to everything but then if it was up to him he would have passed Sharon just so he didnt have to do any of this. It just didnt work that way.
Thomas stared at Sharon for a moment, he knew trust was a big thing between the two of them but when had he broken a promise to her before. No he kept those and he meant them which was why he had said it. He thought over his next words a little more carefully as he watched her rub her back where one of the dart had hit her. Even seeing that Thomas wanted to go over and strangle the cop that had shot here, he knew it was insane but then it didnt stop him wanting to do it.
He moved a little closer to Sharon as he pointed at the leaflet on the desk in front of her as if he was talking about that if anyone looked their way. “Since when have I broken a promise to you Sharon?” He asked though it was more rhetorical. “I promised I would make this up to you and I’d start with lunch if you want? Then I’ll fix dinner for you, wine and flowers and maybe I could do something to make where the dart hit your back a little less sore or take your mind off it entirely.” Thomas stated as he moved away from her for a moment.
“Up to you Officer Voight if you accept it or not, your choice.” He said deciding to leave the promise with her, if she accepted it he would do exactly what he said and more. He knew he would already try to convince her to take a day off or just call in the next day but then he doubted that venture would go well.
