Fin listened to Isla as he nodded. “Yeah student life can be tough but I am with your brother, a Kia really... it’s like a death trap and not something I would want my sister driving around in.” Fin knew what he liked in cars and a Kia was the very last thing he would see someone drive unless he really disliked them. Then maybe he would let them take a spin in one simply to see just how good their survival skills were. “Congratulations on the new job and a Tarus is safe, a bit...vanilla but safe though the Mustang. I think I would have taken that simply because, it’s a mustang.” Fin explained grinning; there was no contest in his mind as to what car was the better out of the three. “Well I think that it’s lovely you’ve done that for him but still, if he is willing to do that for you. It’s nice to know you have a family like that.” Fin said knowing his family was the same even if they had a disagreement over job choices. Fin settled into the passenger seat as he gulped before smiling at Isla. “Buckle up... you sure you want to drive. I think we could get the bus either or a taxi?” He offered before he winced hearing her mash the clutch and gunned the engine. Fin was quick to put his seat belt on after that as he closed his eyes for a moment. “You know how you fixed me up, I really want to live to see tomorrow.” Fin teased opening one eye as he glanced at her. “Well I think that it’s lovely you’ve done that for him but still, if he is willing to do that for you. It’s nice to know you have a family like that.”
"Yeah, they're pretty okay...we have our moments, but mostly we get along and help each other out." Isla knew she was blessed with a good family and she wouldn't trade them for anything. Still, she just wished that her dad was still around, or that she'd at least had a better chance to get to know him.
“Buckle up... you sure you want to drive. I think we could get the bus either or a taxi?”
"What fun is that?" She gave him a teasing look as she gunned the engine. "Hold on and pray!"
“You know how you fixed me up, I really want to live to see tomorrow.”
"Ah, good point." She let off the gas as she glanced at him with a grin. "Would be a shame to waste all that good stitching, huh? Guess I'd better drive like an old lady."
Laughing, she pulled out of the hospital parking lot, serious and responsible where her driving was concerned. "Going to have me a brand new Mustang one day," she declared, "or a restored classic, it's just a matter of saving up for it now that I have a real job."
Until she'd actually passed the boards, she hadn't counted on spending the extra income, although she certainly had planned for it!
"So, a Taurus is 'vanilla', huh? What does that make a Mini Cooper?" She laughed again as she pulled into the cafe parking lot.

Fin grinned; it was the way with family. Sure he might despise his brother at times and yes want to shove his head down a toilet some days too but with everything that had happened. If he called and wanted help, if anyone did anything to him, Fin would be that first person there standing in his brothers defence. Then again how dangerous could being a vet be, he guessed not so much but he had seen a few crazy pet owners in his life.
He gulped when Isla asked about the fun in it, oh he was going to die he was sure of it. Not that he was on one about women drivers but the words ‘hold on and pray’. There was no doubt in his mind that it was a good idea for him to do just that. Fin could feel his fingers tightening against the seat as he squinted out of the windshield, glad her brother had taken the Mustang because he could only fear how that might go in her hands.
“It would be and old lady driving is fun. You get to see all the shops, even the offers inside the shops depending on how slow. Another bonus is being alive because speed and the human body are two things that can go horridly wrong.” Fin said grinning, he had fallen from the sky at speed and that had ended badly for him for a year or two.
“So if not the Mustang, what restored classic would it be?” Fin asked not sure what he could see her driving now other than a race car of some kind. “Though you are very good at your real job so maybe something safe and less zero to sixty in three seconds.” He joked as he knew his own car was well maybe not the most practical but hey it worked for him. “It makes a mini Cooper good at robbing banks, you’ve seen that movie right? I can fly along the side walk, drive through a train station and make it into Switzerland for lunch with gold in the boot.” He teased though if he ever needed a career change it might be an idea.

Isla laughed as she drove away from the hospital, she really was a good, cautious driver, her brother had taught her well, despite her teasing.
"No Mini-Cooper for me, too small...If I'm going to have something I can drive under a semi-trailer, it'd be something like an MG-TC, hunter green, of course! But, man, I'd need a stable of cars...maybe a Stutz Bearcat for formal occasions, a Woody for just cruisin', soe old vintage pick-up for work..."
She glanced at him with a smile. "Hey, you just gave me a great idea! I need to marry Jay Leno!" Well, it was all silliness, but that's what made it so comfortable and easy. "I'm sure his wife won't mind, right? And he has all those cool cars...a different one for every day!"
She was finding Fin fun to talk with and hoped maybe they could stay friends, although probably not so close just yet as to giving him her address.
"Is this the place?" She nodded to a small diner that was coming up on the right.

It was impressive to see her driving; yes despite the teasing she seemed good at it. Maybe his own brother could take lessons from her given every time he drove it felt like a drive to the death. His brother drove a truck but drove it like a tank, one thing he had never forgiven his father for. His brother’s driving lessons that were awful. “Oh so you’re the this is my garage on ten acres of land sort?” Fin teased, “But then much like handbags and shoes I guess a girl needs a car to go with every outfit and one for every occasion. Though I do like the Stutz Bearcat, you’ve got good taste in cars.” Fin liked his mini cooper, it was very well very Michael Cane he thought but then his favourite movie was the Italian job so it sort of fitted well for him. “Now there is a plan? Wonder if he needs another butler to wash and shine his cars and take them for drive too. You marry him and I can look after the garage?” He offered grinning at her, “Naw the wife never minds at all, I’m sure she could look the other way for a few million.” He joked though sure the was the one that always knew and usually did look past things. At least in his experience it was the way of the world. Fin glanced at the small diner that was coming up. “Yeah that’s the place.” He said, “Hope you’re hungry because the food there is fantastic.” He added feeling a little hungry himself. He guessed that was what happened when he needed to be stitched up for morning. Isla Hudson,

"I think I can do pretty good with a meal," Isla declared, "all that nursing really works up an appetite, you know...and you have to toss out the diet now and again, right?"
Besides, it was morning so she still had the whole day to 'behave', not that she was obsessed with eating healthy, but she tried to be sensible. Still, she allowed herself a chance to splurge sometimes.
"Besides, I can do some parkour later, run around jumping over railings and off buildings, you know, have fun and call it exercise!"
She pulled the car into a parking spot and got out, not really sure if she should wait for him to open the door. In her training, a man did that, and a 'lady' waited, but in this PC world, she was never sure how others did things. And to give him the benefit of the doubt, she did hold back to let him get the door to the cafe.

Fin smiled at her and nodded. “You’re on a diet?” Fin stated as he stared at her, “Just so you know, from a guy’s perspective there is no way you need to be on any kind of diet.” Fin stated grinning; he had never understood the whole diet thing. Eat healthy sure but diet, nope no one was taking food away from him.
“There are lots of different way to have fun and exercise... none of which will be me throwing myself off random park objects as long as I can help it. I’d be back in here asking you to stitch me up again if I did.” Fin said with a grin, not that it would be a bad thing as he was never one to shy away from trying something new but Parkour was best left to the expert Isla.
Fin got out and was about to head around to her side of the car but it seemed like he was too slow when she managed to get out before he could make a move. Instead he was fast enough to pull open the cafe door for her as he held it. “Ladies first.” He said smiling at her as he waited for her to go inside before following her in. He had been taught manners by his parents and he might not have been in the job for those but when he could use them. He did his best to do so, even if it was just opening or holding a door.

“You’re on a diet?” Fin stated as he stared at her, “Just so you know, from a guy’s perspective there is no way you need to be on any kind of diet.”
"Well, no, not 'diet' in a cottage cheese and no fun sort of way...just in how I normally eat." While she loved things like burgers and pizza just like everyone else, she kept those for special times and stuck to more 'pure' foods for her daily foods.
“There are lots of different way to have fun and exercise... none of which will be me throwing myself off random park objects as long as I can help it. I’d be back in here asking you to stitch me up again if I did.”
"Oh, well, wouldn't want to have that happen." Isla laughed, then shrugged. "Well, yes, there are other sorts of exercise, but I wouldn't attach 'fun' to them. More like chores! Lord, I hate things like jogging...just running aimlessly...but I guess there's bikes, that can be fun, especially downtown during commute!" Nothing to get the blood going like dodging traffic!
“Ladies first.”
"Age before beauty, is it?" Grinning, Isla stepped inside the cafe, but then moved aside so he could get them a table. "Man, it smells good! I didn't realize how hungry I was. Guess a long graveyard will do that to you...so, what is your recommendation, and remember, I put the rules aside today, so fried pie with whipped cream for breakfast is fair game!"

Fin turned his nose up at cottage cheese; it was more a torture diet if there ever was one. “You have a point, good food means a good soul and a good life... just let me know if you find all that because it’s a lot to put on a carrot stick.” Fin replied smiling at her. He knew how to look after himself, eat his greens. Half a plate of veg in a sitting but then pizza and burgers were just far too handy not to eat.
“You hate jogging? The purpose is to get to a place as fast as possible, bikes are more speed demons and organ donation bikes I call them.” Not that donations were bad but bikes, in an accident it was rarely a good outcome. He had never heard anyone say ‘wow that bike was mangled and they lived’ as they could do with a car. Not that accidents were great to get involved in however Fin preferred his feet on the ground.
To him there was nothing better than running, it was simply because he was able to again that he enjoyed it. He could see how it might be a hard task master to some but to him, running or walking was a gift and if he could do it. It was a very good day for him no matter what. “Ouch...” Fin replied hearing her age before beauty comment as he laughed and moved past her to get them a table.
He chose one by the window as he pulled out a chair her for her and nodded. “Oh it’s always good here. Great food, good company how can anyone complain.” He offered grinning at her as he shook his head about the rules. “Fried pie, nurses must have a very strange food plan but fried pie does sound good. I’m more a heart attack stack of pancakes myself but each to their own.” He offered grinning, “And choose whatever you’d like, it’s on me.”

"Anything, huh?" Isla smiled at that, although she wasn't the sort to take advantage, not that there was much to take advantage with. But she was certainly going to take her leave to splurge, something she had to think hard on, after all, she didn't want to squander the opportunity.
"So, well, I think I'll have pancakes, that sounded good when you said it, and an egg over easy and bacon...not fancy, I know, but isn't that the point? Just good food...and no tomatoes!"
Laughing, she took her seat. "I guess running wouldn't be so bad if there was a change of scenery, but I've seen enough of my neighborhood. But then, parkour is basically just jogging with the potential of death, right? And you're right about biking, that can get pretty messy, and it isn't always the car's fault. Bikers do stupid things without looking or thinking or admitting that they are going to lose big-time, then they get upset when something happens...and helmets? Not cool, you know."

“Yeah anything you would like.” Fin said smiling, she had earned it in taking risks with him that day when she could have quite easily made an excuse and landed him in the hands of a cop. Lucky he knew one of them but then if she was working or not. It became an issue but one he wanted to repay Isla for because she had gone above and beyond.
“Now we’re talking good food.” Fin replied with a grin not wanting to hearing like soya pancakes or wheat grass anything because that was barely food. “Who needs tomatoes when you have pancakes and bacon.”
Fin laughed when she spoke about jogging and the parkour, she was hardly selling it to him but then jogging with the potential of death might have sounded good to him at one point in life. “Yeah I think Bikes make it worse on themselves, helmets save lifes to those thing need to stay on and not on the bike. I mean like it’s going to help the bike wheel if you go flying over the handlebars.”Fin said with a grin as he shrugged.
“I guess the world just needs put to right about that.” He added grinning as he saw someone come over to take their order.

"That's just it," Isla commented, "the ones who do wear helmets think that those are going to protect them, but they forget about things like getting impaled by handlebars or worse, total body road rash! Now there's something that isn't very pretty, and it takes forever to clean up...and believe me, there isn't enough Dilaudid in the ED for that." She laughed then shrugged. "This coming from someone who thinks she can run up walls!"
Of course, part of any 'extreme' sport was using your head and being smart, but that didn't take into account the stupid people around you, and their lack of attention that could lead to extreme pain for you!
"Of course..." she lowered her voice, but was smiling teasingly, "it beats getting into fights, right?" Then she leaned back and shook her head. "My sister and I got into it a couple of times, but I never really..."
The amusement faded as she shrugged again. "Well, I guess I did get into a real fight once, but by the time I realized what was happening I wasn't in much shape to fight back."

“Exactly my point, bikes are great if you know how to ride them and are safe but when you end up having to visit any ED with road rash. You need your licence taken off you and maybe deserve it.” Fin said thoughtfully, he might have loved a motorbike but then he never really saw the appeal of hurtling through Chicago on two wheels instead of four. There was danger and needless danger, owning a motorbike was one of those needless dangers in life.
“See that surprises me still, don’t get me wrong I get that you’re not going at eighty miles an hour up a wall but jumping... yeah as a nurse I’m surprised that you’re not wrapped in cotton wool with the things I assume you see.” Fin added pretty sure that an emergency room visit is something that would cause a lot of thought when it came to activity. Especially when you heard stories about how people got to where they were.
Fin laughed before regretting it as he still hurt. “It does beat getting into fights but then it’s all about how you take them.” Fin said grinning, “Like me and never see it coming or you start it and then it’s just a case of making sure you finish it.” So maybe Fin saw it coming and put other people in the hospital too but assuming Isla had no idea about that, it was safe enough to say.
“Those fights are the worst but I guess now you would know what to do?” Fin said wondering if anyone had actually shown her how to fight. It might look like hands and feet everywhere but there were ways to work things to the advantage. “But it’s different when it’s someone you trust and once is enough to know its best not to get into them.” Fin added smiling though he knew it was unavoidable at times; it was a case of troubling finding a person than going searching for it.

"Yeah, we see a lot of things, mostly what people do to themselves because of their own stupid choices," Isla agreed, although she knew that her experiences were nothing close to what Steven had seen. She'd heard all kinds if stories from the older nurses in the ED that until now she couldn't even visualize.
"And, of course, people do things to each other, but you can kind of shut it out because you have a job to do." She shrugged. "Kind of a coping mechanism so you don't burn out the first week."
Indeed, they saw horrible, destructive injuries, many fatal, and you had to deal with dying patients screaming at you not to let them die, then there were the grieving survivors, and that was tenfold where children were concerned. If you couldn't take that impersonally, you went crazy...or worse.
"I guess the parkour is a sort of controlled reckless way of releasing all that, and really telling myself that I'm all right...that no one is going to try to hurt me again."
Laughing nervously, she looked over at him. "Sorry for the psychoanalysis. I had a boyfriend who tried to kill me, and the parkour is a way to train, too, to be strong and be able to react..." She grinned at him. "So, you see, you just narrowly escaped death!"

Fin grinned, he could only imagine what stupid choices people made though he was in the business of keeping those stupid choices going. Stupid choices to turn to him for anything but a sandwich but then he knew he could find a way to charge for that if he really wanted to. Still it was interesting hearing what people did or the trouble they managed to get into.
It was a way of the world warning others he felt. “You can really do that? It must take a lot to shut it out though, you know given what you see on the TV thinking that might come to your door.” Fin said pretty sure it was the only way to deal with life in general. His army days were long behind him and shutting it out was the only way he managed to deal with a lot of things. Then again people could hardly say he came out all sunshine and roses.
“If it works for you then keep going and doing it, just make sure you’re not that ER person that comes in with that mad story like the seat tried to fight back or something.” He added with a grin though he was glad she had managed to find to something that could work just as well for her.
“Is the boyfriend still alive?” Fin asked her grinning, “Because yeah by the sounds of it I did. In a room alone with a parkour nurse, I think this is a very lucky day for me to be alive in general.” He said with a laugh, oh Fin could fight if he had to and it might not be smooth moves or stylish. No he had his own style of just get the job done. Not a great look but then he was walking out of the hospital in a reasonable shape. Maybe the others guys had to stay a while longer he hoped.
