[attr="class","bradenleft"] [attr="class","bradenleft2"] | [attr="class","bradenright"] "You called me," Braden reminded his brother. A frustrated Lucas, prone to lashing out, wasn't something new. Braden had been on the receiving end of his brother's anger before; though, in the past, he might have made the mistake of raising his own voice. Snapping back hadn't ever accomplished anything for either of them. As always, finding an approach that would resonate with Lucas took work. The first step was reminding Lucas that he'd wanted to talk things through. "Because you asked for my help. Pushing people away isn't the answer." Turning the key and starting the SUV, Braden pulled out of the parking spot, glancing back over his shoulder and to where Lucas sat in the back seat. At least his brother hadn't made a big fuss about being in the same vehicle as Rachel. Though both Lucas and his wife had begun trying to pretend the other one didn't exist. Whether his brother liked it or not, he would be spending the night with them. "I'm not assuming anything, but this isn't a new issue that's suddenly popped up. You've thought about it before. You've probably talked about it with her. Talked about what to do if her PTSD got worse. So what makes now different, Lucas? That's what I'm getting at." Braden kept his eyes on the road, passing by the precinct he was stationed out of, as he drove towards the house. It wouldn't be much longer until Lucas figured out what Braden had in mind. "You're going to be a father. It's normal to be scared about that – to have doubts. Could those fears be playing into this?" Braden shared a look with Rachel. He knew the doubts that came with such a huge life change all too well – doubts that he had shared with his wife then. He had experienced them upon finding out about Savannah. "Lucas, I've made mistakes… you've made mistakes… but the one thing we're not is our own dad. I've never once thought that about you." Dr. Lucas Murphy , Rachel Murphy [attr="class","bradenright2"] |
