It had been a few weeks since she had the all clear on her head injury. A few weeks longer than she wanted but at least her ears had stopped ringing within the first few days after she had been kidnapped to Michael’s house. Okay so technically not kidnapped but still, against her will in a sort of round about no yes situation way. Well complicated, it was the adult word that covered just about everything that happened in adult life.
Still it was just like she had explained the day Michael had found her at the warehouse. She had a thick skull and really it had taken bigger knocks though she wasnt too keen to have that happen again. So yes they were rock climbing, well attempting to on her part as she wasnt too sure how good Michael was at rock climbing as she looked up at the boulder or rock or mountain as she figured it was.
Special Forces training here they go she thought as she glanced at the already fixed ropes on the rock and the ones she had brought. Harnesses, back packs, chalk power, helmets just in case though crash mat, yeah that was missing as she figured clinging to rocks. How could that go wrong? Tess glanced around at the scenery, yeah this rock looked a lot bigger from the ground than it did online or when people spoke about it.
Tess looked up at the rock, holding the unfastened helmet onto her head as she tried not to appear like she had no clue in the matter what so ever. So she could climb indoors a little, the outdoors that was different as she had visions of being attacked by birds or bears or a squirrel with a grudge. “Michael are you sure about this?” Tess asked trying not to appear completely scared to death. “Looks a lot bigger now we’re here you know... and that rope, what if it isn’t secured?” She asked still staring at it as if the answers would leap out at her.
The last ten thousand people had likely used that same rope and lived, she guessed the park rangers would check on it or have someone who would. All wildlife aside, at least she got to spend the day with Michael which had her smiling from ear to ear so she wasnt about to let a rock get in the way of that.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Yes Michael had taken Tess home from the hospital. It had been that or leave her there. She had needed someone to watch her recovery out of the hospital. Michael hadn’t really given her much of a choice. But that was either here nor there at this point, since Tess was recovering. That didn’t mean he wanted to stop seeing her. In fact, it was just the opposite. One of Michael’s favorite things to do was rock climb, it was a hobby of his. Michael came up behind Tess and wrapped his arm around her waist in a friendly manner. He was a little protective of her and to be fair his feelings were a little more than friendly, but he wanted to feel things out between them before he started dumping his feelings towards her. Seeing her unfastened helmet Michael’s hand went to her shoulders in efforts to turn her around so he could secure the helmet strap under her chin. “You really going to let a rock get the upper hand on a bomb fighting woman like yourself?” Michael responded. Moving to check her harness, to put her mind at a little bit of ease he smiled in her direction. “Relax.” He whispered quietly. Normally, blondes were exactly the type of woman he would fall for. Rachel was going to give him hell for this if he ever heard about this. “Tess.” he added quietly. Oh screw it, he reached over and took her lips in his briefly. There, much better than words. The more time Tess had spent with Michael the less she wanted to leave, of course turning into that crazy unwanted house guest wasnt on her to do list but thinking of the day where the kidnapping was more a mutual parting of ways. It was sad to say in the least and she never thought she would feel that way about it. Kidnapping or the parting of ways which was why she was so happy to be out rock climbing with him, the past time with Michael had given her back what she thought she had lost not too long ago.
A sense of fun and a smile on her face more often than not which was change given she rarely had much to smile about. Tess leaned back against him for a moment, his touch and arm around her waist was friendly as she smiled and chuckled lightly. Honestly she was acting like she was a teenager and Michael was the first guy to even look her way. Where was the toughened army brat who had ten thousand other things on her mind that looking at a guy twice.
Michael was a friend, she was reading far too much into things as it was only rock climbing. If he had any luck she would fall and end the reign as house guest or maybe that was his plan. Push her off the rock as a way to go ‘goodbye’ she wondered for a moment because she realised she might have been hanging around too much crazy at work.
Tess turned around when she felt his hand on her shoulders as she let him secure the helmet strap. “Oh hell no, I just figured I’d let it think I’m scared and that way it won’t see me coming at all.” She said as if that had been her master plan, nope she was terrified of thinking she could actually climb that thing and not manage to break her neck. Bombs were so much easier and a little smaller, things that went boom were her bread and butter this was a rock that in her mind was more likely to kill her than she was it.
Tess chuckled lightly, “Easier said than done.” She stated though at least she knew her harness was right though his whisper practically sent a shiver down her spine for a moment as she stared at the challenge that was in front of her. Tess turned toward Michael when she heard her name as she smiled though the minute he took her lips in his all thought left her mind. She kissed him back briefly before she stared at him. “Michael?” It was one word but it was the only words he could think of while her head tried to catch up to what had happened.
“You... Michael.” She said as if those two words made sense to everything that was in her head. Tess decided that just in case she had given him any other idea than she was completely okay with it she took a step toward him and reached over to take his lips in hers for a little longer.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes It had taken Michael a while to realize that he was falling for a woman again. After a few boyfriends and being scared of losing the women he was closest to… he’d fallen for a woman. He’d tried to convince himself that wasn’t the case but here he was, staring at the woman in his arms Perhaps he could stay a bit behind her, as if he could catch her if something happened. No, it was the over protective in him. Let her enjoy it Michael. Get a grip.Michael chuckled at her making up excuses and the oh hell no response he had elicited from her tones. As he finished with the helmet strap he made sure that her harness was all in check. Pulling it a little tighter around her leg than she had it, he pulled it to where it should rest. “It’s a rock. It doesn’t have eyes, doll.” He replied chuckling as he secured her rope to her harness. Michael smiled when she pulled away and tried to put all the pieces together. He was even more elated when she returned the favor. His one hand wrapped around her waist as he smiled. His hand ran down the side of her face. “Show this wall who is boss.” He encouraged her lightly with a smirk behind his features. He lightly tapped her on the rear with his helmet. He finished securing his own harness and setting his helmet on his head. Securing the strap on the helmet he hooked himself up to the wall. He decided to let Tess decide if she wanted him behind her or beside her. She’s safe Michael or you wouldn’t have suggested this. He was still reasoning with himself. Tess had never expected to fall for anyone, let alone remotely like anyone since James but there she was. Michael had done something to her and she was as they said seeing him in a different light. She thought it was something to do with the hero complex, saving her butt after the bomb, inviting her to say and along the lines of a gratitude feeling though when he kissed her as surprising as it was she wasnt against it at all.
All the checking she was glad of, mostly because if anything would go wrong she was the sort that would find out the hard way. Like if her harness wasnt right or her helmet might fall off and knock someone else off the wall. It was the way of life or her way of life so far. Tess laughed and rolled her eyes, “Spoken by the guy that does this for fun? I mean you see the way it looks at me like it’s practically saying ‘I’m going to make you fall off me’.” Tess said as she motioned to a particular spot on the rock. It was totally looking at her strangely she thought despite him pointing out it doesn’t have eyes.
Tess smiled at the feeling of his hand wrapped around her waist, staring into those eyes as she realised he had said something. “Oh you can count on that.” She said smirking right back at him as she gasped when he tapped her on the rear with his helmet. Tess watched as he secured his own harness and helmet as she glanced back at him. “Besides I’ll beat you to the top anyway so I get to show you who’s boss too.” She added knowing there was no chance at all unless the rock got about a few hundred feet shorter and she sprouted wings.
“You are going to be right beside me when we do this?” Tess asked a little out of nerves and the fact that if she did fall off the rock and die, his eyes as the last thing she saw was a pretty good way to go. “Got to keep you in sight for when I beat you to the top.” She added trying to cover her nerves over it, that and the fact there was no chance of winning with state of movement. Top athlete she wasnt, slight limp and attempting to climb a rock sure that was her.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Michael hadn’t thought he’d ever fall for women again, not after he’d lost two wives. Then again his track record with boyfriends wasn’t that great either. He’d gone through three or four since Jordan’s death. Michael was scared of what would happen what would happen if he put his heart and soul into the relationship. Scared to lose his significant other to anything, always made him a bit overprotective and clear thinking all but left his brain. He didn’t want to hurt Tess, he was so used to losing partners that if she was happy it was that mattered. He was brought out of his thinking when Tess started laughing and having fun. Michael cracked a smile. His daughter always told him he needed to stop being so uptight. Okay so maybe he would take the advice of a teenager. “That just means I get to play catch.” Michael was being a smart ass. He smirked as he teased her some. Though it was clear he was just teasing. There was no way in hell he was going to let her fall from the wall. That didn’t stop him from baiting her though. Michael was torn between staying behind her in case she fell or racing her to the top to prove her wrong. He clipped her to the cord that hung down and made sure it was also safe. “Take it slow. Don’t want you reinjuring yourself.” He had his lips to her ear. Taking his hands and putting them on her waist he lightly pushed her against the face of the rock. “Start with your dominant hand, secure it somewhere that feels safe. Then the other hand. Then use your upper body to help your foot find a good spot. Then follow with the other foot.” He explained softly. Though being close to her was doing things to him MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Tess had little idea what anything stable was when it came to relationships, there and gone and there and gone was her track record. Mainly the one guy with a few dates mixed in which made her a little bit of a novice at the relationship game. Then again people heard about what she did for a living and things never really got much further or if they got anything close to further and she had to remove her gloves or sleeves and it showed what her job had done to her over the years. Not exactly the sexiest look in the business when she had burns on her arms and torso from how not to do the job.
Now though she was just used to the look of horror mixed with a dont to horrified then an ‘I’ll call you’. Michael however was different to that, he was the first guy that mattered to her and mattered to her in a way that was entirely different to anyone else she had met or dated. Tess laughed and rolled her eyes when he tried to be a smart ass. “Yeah yea, I’m heavier than I look so just watch out I don’t break you. Don’t have medic training so you’d have to CPR yourself.” Tess teased though by no means was she graceful or dainty, two words that had never been used in the same sentence as her name.
Being clipped to the cord that hung down seemed to make it more real than wearing a harness as she nodded. “Only one who’s slow here is you. Just don’t reinjure yourself either because we all know you’ll be eating my rock dust once I’m up this thing.” She said chuckling as she felt his hands on her waist as he pushed her against the face of the rock lightly. Tess could hear his instructions, he made it sound easy like just put one foot in front of the other and go for it. She was finding it difficult to focus on the rock and not the soft tone on his voice.
No mind on the rock she thought, focus. “So dominant hand somewhere that feels safe...” Tess said thoughtfully as she stared at the rock a second, nope no chance that rock was safe as she reached for Michael’s hand instead. “Feels pretty safe right here.” She said with a grin before she turned to kiss his cheek for a moment before did the only thing she could do. Throw herself at the rock and hope for the best. Tess managed to grab onto a couple of hand holds though when it came to getting her feet onto the thing, she could feel her boots scratching as she tried to get her feet to hit against the rock but she found nothing to hold her foot onto. So she just scrabbled some more clinging on with her hands.
Probably would have been best to follow Michael’s one foot first rather than both feet for fear of falling off it but she gripped on with her hands. Finally managing to find at least one foot hold though she left her other leg dangling for a moment as she looked around for anything sticky out enough to shove her foot against. In truth she was only about two inches off the ground though the effort put into those two inches felt like two miles. “What the hell do I do with the other leg? Put it around my ear? How do you even climb this thing?” Tess asked as she looked around to see where Michael was.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Michael had seen some of the scars when he was taking care of her, but only parts of them. They didn’t put him off, but to say they didn’t anger him was an understatement. They didn’t anger him because she did her job but that someone had intended to hurt others and they had done so. He had kept most of his anger to himself; but if he knew the extent of the full damage that would be a toss up as to whether or not he vocalized that opinion with Tess. She didn’t exactly have the safest line of work. Scoffing, Michael shook his head when she said she was heavier than she looked. “I’ve carried you before. That’s not gonna work on me.” He pointed out. Maybe she wasn’t dainty, but Michael wasn’t put off by having moved her from the couch to a bed when she had been at his house healing. Though he wasn’t sure how aware of those times she had been. Some people remembered being moved in the middle of the night, others not so much. Maybe she’d just been too tired to fight with him? Before he realized what she was doing, she had her hand in his. Well it wasn’t the rock but she did have a point. He would keep her safe. He set his hand on her back when she was starting up the rock. He didn’t fail to see her dangling around. Michael reached down and took her ankle and moved it to a foot hold that was closer to her hands. “Push yourself off on this leg.” He was concerned about her flailing around. He didn’t want her to pull something. He climbed up just beside her staying within her reach so he could help her if she needed it. Michael showed her a few spots she could put her hands once she had herself up a higher height. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Tess tried to hide the surprised look on her face when he said that he had carried her before. It shouldn’t have been a surprise to her at all though she thought it was a dream or a hazy recollection of what might have happened but she wasn’t entirely sure at the time. Tiredness mixed with the good old pain killers and she figured it had just been a hallucination after all she was staying with Michael and he was taking care of her. So dreaming wasn’t that much of a stretch to her or so she thought.
Then again it did explain how she got from one place to the other without remembering moving to get there. “Alright then muscle man, just fair warning I’ve eaten since then so just watch out. Only saying.” She said with a grin, “And thanks, for everything you’ve done Michael.” Tess added not sure if she had said at the time but she did appreciate everything he had done. Tess could feel his hand on her back as she dangled off the rock, it wasnt flattering or exactly great but she was attempting to climb what she felt was the biggest mountain in the world. Successfully or not wasnt really bothering her, falling two inches onto the ground, that did.
Tess felt him reach down and take her ankle, moving her foot to a hold as she nodded and listened to him. Yes it was a leg ear situation as she pushed herself off on that leg and reached up to one of the hand holds he had showed her. Tess place her other foot and hand as she pulled herself up some more before glancing to see where Michael was. She had no idea about rock climbing but if she was going to fall she knew that she wasnt going to reach out and pull Michael down with her. “Hey, are you going to hurry up here or do I have to beat you to the top?” Tess teased as she chuckled.
She was still clinging to the rock for life but at least she managed to find foot holds a little better than trying to scale it with only her arms. Tess was going with the keep talking and don’t over think version of climbing which seemed to work. It worked until her hand came to rest on what she thought was a hand hold. The soil and stones had gathered on a barely there ledge though the minute she tried to pull herself up she felt the soil and small stones crumbled under her hold. Tess shrieked as she pressed herself to the rock, her other hand and feet still in place as she closed one eye and looked at Michael.
“Damn it.” She stated trying not to panic as her hand tried to find another hold, trust her to find the one place to free the thing of lose stone and soil. "What is the key to climbing and how do you do this?" Tess asked him being serious about that, there had to be magic involved some how or he was magic which yes he was but now wasn't the time for anything like that. No she needed the inside information on how to climb a rock which sounded ridiculous now she had asked that, how to climb, she wasnt exactly two so she could do it. It just seemed a lot scarier than it did when she had both feet on the floor not so long ago.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Michael could only shake his head when she started teasing him. The man was practically immune to teasing mostly because he dished it out most of the time. He climbed up on the rock beside her giving her plenty of space. He was making sure she was secure where she was situating herself. The nice thing about the harness was that it wasn’t going to let her fall down the rock. Since they were climbing a real rock face and it wasn’t some bouncing harness to go down there were several places the harness was secured into the face of the rock. Undoing one of his harness hooks he made sure it was snug back in the wall before he did the same thing with hers. “When you get above there, you are gonna move the other ones. It’s like a jigsaw puzzle.” He tried to make it relatable. Michael’s hand went behind her as she started slipping. “Take a breath. Open your eyes and take it one step at a time. There is no time limit on this." He made sure she was still secure, if only to make her feel more comfortable. “You got this, come on” he offered a hand as he held onto the rock with three of his limbs. He was encouraging her but if she didn’t want to go keep going though he wasn’t going to force her up the side of the mountain. Though this was one of those things once you started you had to finish. There was no jumping down because you couldn’t make it all the way up. They’d picked a small rock face to climb. Though a 200 foot rock face could feel like an eternity. “Just pretend you are crawling.” He explained. “Don’t think about the height. Make sure you feel secure where you are putting your hands and feet before you move up to the next step.” He reminded her what he had said earlier. He reached up and took his hand and placed it under his chin. “I’ve got you Tess. I promise.” He whispered running his hands over her lips softly. Michael was too protective to let anything happen to her. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

Tess noticed his reaction to her teasing, well that one was new though maybe she needed to raise her game with that. Still climbing was the aim of the day and despite the fact that she wasnt entire sure this was a great idea, she figured that Michael knew what he was doing so unless he held a grudge against her. She would make it down alive. Tess watched when Michael unhooked her from the wall thankful for the moment he hooked her back on. Yes this wasnt what she thought it might be but she was trying not to be terrified of it, hell if Michael could do it so could she.
“Ah a jigsaw puzzle, makes perfect sense.” Tess said glancing up, just like a very scary puzzle that she was trying to climb and not die on. When she started slipping she tried to breath, it came out as more of a gasp for breath as she opened one eye and stared at Michael. “Yeah there’s a limit, I need to be faster than you. Slow poke.” She teased trying to smile as she took a steadier breath when he said she had it. Tess reached for his hand for a moment before letting it go. “I got this, no going back right. Just up. Only a few more feet.” She said as she glanced up, oh it looked like a few more hundred feet from her angle but what could go wrong.
Nope she wasnt even thinking about that as she tried to relax. “Just crawling... you make this sound easy.” Tess replied as she nodded trying not to think about the height, easier said that done but his advice was sound so far. Tess smiled when she felt his hand over her lips. “I know, you’ve not let me die yet so I trust you.” Tess replied grinning at him. “Just so you know, I’ve got you too. Just maybe not for rock climbing so don’t fall off.” She warned him grinning as she reached up for another hand hold making sure she felt secure before she pulled herself up.
“Oh I think you just dropped something.” Tess added chuckling as he found a foot hold that seemed okay to her, it wasnt exactly speed climbing more like tortoise in her case but maybe the ‘you dropped something’ could work as well on a rock face as it did on the ground. At least a few seconds to figure out that he hadn’t unless he was wise to that though Tess didnt want to look to find out. Nope she had a rock to climb and a contest to win, if it was possible.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Michael was about to say something else when he heard shots ring out. Without thinking he cut the rope holding her up and then the rope holding him up. It wasn’t like they were far off the ground but any height was too far off the ground for his liking. Cop instincts had kicked in as he then pushed Tess to the floor. “Stay down.” He replied as he laid over top of her. There was no way in hell he was going to let her get up and go anywhere. Not until he knew it was safe. He put a finger to her lips. It wasn’t like he could make her keep quiet but he knew that she knew how this worked. She was a cop after all. With each shot that fired he could feel the lump in his throat. His hand ran along her body as he tried to frisk Tess for a weapon. If she had one on him he could at least do something. His was in the trunk of his car, and he was wishing that he hadn’t left it there. Knowing Tess she was probably carrying more than one. He also carefully unhooked her harness in case they needed to run. Then he started working on his own. Michael was trying to simply keep quiet, he didn’t need to direct any attention their way. “Don’t you dare even think about arguing with me.” He whispered in her ear, though it was pointed and firm. Michael was taking control of the situation and that is all there was to that. He slid their harnesses off to the side. “Stay low.” He pointed towards the vent. “Get that open. I’ve got your back.” There was no way in hell he was letting her in the middle of this. Michael was too protective for that. He’d lost too much to not be protective of her. The gunshots rang in her ears as she instinctively reached to her side, no duty weapon as she cursed though when she saw Michael cutting the rope holding her up Tess gripped at the rock. What the hell was he doing, trying to kill them? Tess had barely got a proper grip on the rock before she found herself pushed to the floor. She shrieked for a moment when she heard him say stay down. Had that been all Tess might have been able to cope with that but the fact that he laid over the top of her.
No that wasnt on at all, any other set of circumstances and she might have been more than happy for that to have happened but right then. No. It was her job to protect him, she was the cop he was the paramedic though none of that seemed to happen as she opened her mouth to argue the point when she felt his finger on her lips. Now he was silencing her? Was he insane or just trying to kill her today? Tess knew better than to scream at him right then though it didnt mean she wasnt prepared to do just that later.
“You could always just ask before you start feeling me up. It’s generally politer to do that.” Tess stated with a hit of ice behind her words as she glared at him. Yeah she had weapons on her, she was prepared and well without one she felt like this situation could happen and she might not be able to do much. Tess reached to pull the gun from her boot as he unhooked her harness, she tried to help him with his though when she finally thought she had a moment to think to argue. The whisper was there to not even bother with it. Yeah not right now but sure later she would. Tess knew she had a knife in her belt too if needed but she did love her weapons at times. Light as they were, she was prepared even if she had originally figured it was for bears. You know just in case and all.
Tess just rolled her eyes at Michael when he told her to stay low as she saw the vent. If Michael thought for one minute she was going to sit this out in a vent, hell no he was the one sitting in a vent. All she had to do was get him in it. Tess reached to her other boot as she pulled out a smaller almost pea shooter sized weapon. The Ruger LCP Custom, she passed to Michael keeping the Beretta Pico herself. “Just don’t shoot your foot with it.” She stated as she made a move. “On me.” She stated as she pulled the vent open trying to be as quiet as possible and crouched by it.
She could feel the strain on her hip as she crouched though this was going to be one hell of a day. “Get in there and don’t you dare argue with me.” She whispered to Michael. Sure she might have wanted to add ‘or I’ll shoot you myself’ but then it wasnt like she could do it. Argue yes, yell some sure but after the whole shooting thing had stopped.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Michael wasn’t one for asking for anything when he was being protective nope. He mostly ignore Tess glaring and pitching a fit. There was no time to argue. Picking her up he pushed her head first into the vent and then climbed in behind her. “Getting out this way is much safer.” He stated as he pointed down the vent shaft. “Neither of us have the training needed for this. When we get out we call in a department who can. We protect who we have to and that’s it. We aren’t playing superhero.” At least that’s what Rachel had always told him to stop doing. Yes, he was probably having a moment of what would Rachel do; but this was different. This wasn’t something he’d even been trained for, even by the feds. Sure active shooters were a thing but… they’d only learned the basics and two cops wasn’t going to cut it. Michael pressed against Tess. “Go” he stated firmly. Though soon after he gave a gentle please as he was ready for the two of them to get moving. The only way Tess could go was through the vent shaft. He was blocking the doorway. “You head for outside. No hero stuff Tess.” He pointed out firmly. Tess and he were both trained in this stuff, just because he’d quit. Yeah he should have never quit. Yes, he was going to reason with himself that going back to being a cop was a better idea than being paired with his ex-boyfriend when it came to being a paramedic. There were a million and one reasons why all of this was a mess. So help him if Rachel got paired with some idiot he’d go back to the police department in a hurry. ✄ Tess WalkerI want to take him pd again so I am thinking that this will be his turning point. Tess was going to try to fight back though when he picked her up, yeah there wasnt much she could do against that other than glare at him. Tess glanced down the vent shaft as she hated when he was right about something. He was a man and being right in the same sentence right now was more annoying than ever. She would have taken clinging to the rock for another three hours over being pushed into a vent and not helping. “Never said I would do but I’m a cop, we’re supposed to go to the danger not away from it.” Tess stated wondering when Michael had changed his tune of not playing superhero.
Maybe she had fallen off the wall, hit her head again and this was all just a dream. That would explain it she figured when he told her to go. Oh she would tell him exactly where to go shortly she thought though the please, well that made it a little better as she shuffled a few steps. Tess glanced backed to see if she could get past Michael though it wasnt possible as she just reached behind her for his hand. She grasped at air for a while trying to reach any part of him to stop him from turning around if that was his idea. If she wasnt allowed to go play hero then he was sticking with her, after all he was the paramedic and not the cop.
Tess wasn’t about to risk his life over it all either. “Just don’t let go of me and don’t be a hero either.” Tess told him firmly, “Because so help me if you try anything, I’ll shoot you myself and blame it on whoever it is. You know I would.” Tess knew that Michael would know she wouldnt do anything like it, then again if he didnt who did he think she was really. Snapping at him for being protective, again she wasnt exactly used to that as she tried to stop being angry. “How are you doing?” She asked him as she kept moving forward along the vent.
