Tag: Open Word Count: 506 OC Note: While I love writing; I tend to lack in coming up with good first posts and titles. So, apologies in advance. And also, if cadets don't get guideline booklets; please let me know, as I'm just assuming they do.
Casey let out a pleasurable moan as she sipped her drink; her eyes rolling to the back of her head as the heavenly taste of whipped cream topped White Chocolate mocha burned the tip of her tongue and the roof of her mouth. She didn't care if people were staring. It was just one of her quirks and when Casey drank coffee; she couldn't help but show her appreciation for that; though she had to stop herself from laughing at some of the looks that people were giving her.
Though she had been drinking coffee for many years now; she still couldn't get over the sweet aroma that ensnared her senses as she enjoyed her drink. Thinking about the stereotypes of cops; Casey couldn't help but let out a small smirk as she grabbed her chocolate doughnut and dunked it into her coffee, before taking a bite of it. She had to stop herself from letting loose another moan; less she wanted to make the other inhabitants uneasy. Casey was sitting in a secluded area of the quaint coffee shop ; though was visible if someone wanted to find her. Not that anyone needed her, though it was interesting to see what types of people this place brought in. Ever since applying at the police academy and becoming a cadet; Casey couldn't help but think of scenarios and stories behind the people that came in. She would look at them long enough to see what they looked like (so as to not scare them off; even if she did enjoy making them uncomfortable. She needed to learn how to act her age; and making people uncomfortable just for a laugh wasn't the way to do it) and then think up stories behind the characters. One Civilian was dressed in a business suit; so Casey thought of him as either a business man or a con man and etcetera. With the warm cup in her hands; Casey's eyes traveled to the owner of the shop; who was taking someone's order. There were a few other civilians around besides her; either talking on the phone; visiting with friends who were with them; or working on the computer. She glanced back at her cup lost in her thoughts. Suddenly a blast of cold air hit her full in the back as the door to the cafe opened, admitting another person. Pushing up her hoodie, so that her face was protected from the wind, Casey once again wrapped her fingers around the mug, reveling in the warmth of the contents. Grabbing her handbook and opening it; Casey had to suppress a groan at the thought of having to read. She was almost rethinking of taking a job that required you to read. Even if it was just to learn what was expected of you as you served the community and what not. Then again; most occupations required you to read. 'Hmm. I wonder if I can live as a hermit' she thought to herself as she sipped her coffee some more.

don't apologize Jessica had a mountain of paperwork to do for her separation with the Navy. She'd come to the end of her contract and had decided to just go into her reservist service. Quite honestly, she enjoyed her job building submarines on paper but it was hardly something she wanted to spend the rest of her life doing. Her parents were liable to kill her for going into the police force after all both had been federal agents. Then again, that was the same reason there wasn't much say. Jess was likely to follow in her parents footsteps. There was a small sigh as she grabbed her black coffee from the barista.
Normally, Jess preferred doing her paperwork at home in a tree but today was an exception as it was raining and well paperwork and rain didn't exactly mix well. She dropped her papers on the desk and started from the top page. The military made you sign your life away to get into the service and to get out. Then again she really shouldn't expect anything less of the government.
Jess was a little confused at everything going on in her life right now. She was convinced her half brother hated her, her dad was going through an emotional roller coaster, and she was just trying to be the firm one. Sighing she flipped the page and continued on with her separation paperwork. Her academy book piled up on the corner of the table. It was enough for anyone to want to bang their head into a wall. It was on her list of things to do and she was going to read. No wait reading was WAY better than this stupid paperwork. So Jess in the spirit of being an overachiever started working on her paperwork and reading a few paragraphs of her book in between redudant lines of 'enter service number here' and 'enter rank here'. By now she was pretty sure things like this were computerized.

The words on the pages of the book that she was reading swam the longer she tried to focus on them. No matter how hard she tried; she couldn't seem to get focused on the task at hand; which really frustrated the young girl to no end. It was just simply too much reading. Casey pressed the palm of her hands against her eyes; blocking out any light that shown withing the coffee shop thus allowing her to focus on her thoughts. There was just too many of them. Sighing, Casey opened her eyes and grabbed her mug and sipped from it. Maybe she just needed a break. An outlet that would allow her to get out all this energy so she could focus on her work better.
Looking around the shop once more, Casey noticed a girl sitting next to her; reading her own workbook. Or was she filling out paperwork? Regardless, the girl seemed a bit more focus than her. Tilting her head to the side; Casey swiveled around in her chair as she took a good look at the young woman. The girl seemed oddly familiar but Casey couldn't pinpoint the why.
Casey leaned forward so she could see the work more closely but not too close that she was able to read it. She decided that this girl would be her conversationalist partner; whether she was willing to or not.
“That looks like a lot of work you have there” she stated simply; hoping maybe this girl wouldn't bight her head off from starting a conversation.

don't apologize
Jess loved conversations with people, but she was fairly certain she had seen this particular person before. No, it wasn’t from her Navy unit. It hadn’t been the college, maybe it was the police academy. There were so many cadets there was no telling. She pulled her arms up around her shoulders rubbing her arm for a moment when the door opened. There had to be a better place to sit. Though with summer looming these cold days wouldn’t last long.
“Oh,” Jess pointed around at her paperwork. “College classes, academy, military reserve paperwork. It’s really my average day.” Jess had just herself to focus on lately. The guy she was falling hard for was on some DEA operation. Jess was used to people coming and going in her life and it didn’t bother her in the slightest. Her mom was really busy with school and well her dad was… she had no idea what he was up to lately. Knowing him he was chasing someone down across the globe or something. She was an only child and it was just her.
There was, of course, her ‘brother’ and then a half-brother but one was heavily involved with his girlfriend and the other was acting like a jerk. She was still waiting for Jackson to come and apologize but if she got yelled at for trying, at least she’d tried to tell him the truth. So the paperwork was more than welcome right now, as was Casey’s company.

Tag: Jessica "Jess" Ranen Word Count: 251 OC Note: None Casey sipped her coffee, as she watched the woman out of the corner of her eyes. She watched as her attention went from the items on the table to her; making Casey smirk slightly; though she hoped the other woman didn't notice. The last thing Casey wanted was to get accused of being a creep. She watched the young woman silently; making sure her eyes were half on her book and half on the girl. She could see her wrap arms around herself trying to protect herself from the cold. Casey gripped her mug tighter; glad to have the warmth. Summer couldn't come sooner in her opinion. The girl seemed to be studying her; most likely either trying consider engaging in her conversation or just ignoring her. Casey couldn't tell; but couldn't care either way. She was going to talk to this girl regardless; and nothing would stop her unless of course the girl really wasn't in the mood to talk. She did look like she needed a distraction though and was pleasantly surprised when the girl finally responded. The young redhead nodded as she held up her own work from the academy. “You're not alone there mate. I hate paper work. Makes me question myself on my career choices.” Casey gave out a nervous chuckle and scooted her chair a bit closer to the young woman. “I like helping people though so I suppose it's worth the long hours of work, eh? The names James by the way. Casey James.”

Post by Nicky Reagan - Boyle on May 16, 2017 22:16:11 GMT
Nicky was excited to finally be starting CPD training with the next intake class, she had a few weeks yet but finally she was getting to be cop she had wanted to be. The first female Reagan to take on the badge even if it was far from New York where she thought she might be Chicago had become her home and with that came the family business. The family had practically moved to Chicago however now there was Erin and Hank, it felt like she was just towing a mixed family business line. Yes her mother was hardly all for it but then Nicky understood the reasons, Hank was surprisingly on her side of things which was strange yet she was getting used to having a ‘father figure’ around outside of the Reagan family. She had been out to get a few things she needed though with the rain she had given up on textbook searching as really with one uncle a cop, grandfather the PC and great grandfather ex-PC, that was only the Reagan clan she had practical experience every single Sunday dinner. Getting out of the rain Nicky placed her coffee order, a latte no fussing with it as she waited in line and took a look around the place for a spare seat. She needed to mark off her list the things she had managed to get before heading back out into the weather to finally make sure she had everything for police academy. It was a strange mix of nervous excitement and then fear that she would fail, the first female Reagan cop or the first Reagan to fail police academy. Nicky however saw a space on a table with two other woman a similar age to herself. She made her way over as she stopped short. “Hey, sorry do you mind if I take a seat with you guys?” She asked not sure if the two were friends or simply just looking for a place to sit as she noticed one of them had a mountain of paperwork. Her first thought was Lawyer followed by business person or the ten thousand other jobs in the city that required that much paper. It was almost a reminder of being back at university, too many books and paper to lug about the campus. Jessica "Jess" Ranen, @amberrae,

don't apologize Jess looked up as Nicky approached right around the same time that Casey introduced herself. “Jessica Gibbs… Call me Jess” She responded with her hand outstretched. When Nicky asked to join them Jess nodded. “Of course!” The girl looked familiar and she knew she had seen her in class for sure. It wasn’t hard to spot a Reagan around the city. The State’s Attorney wasn’t exactly an unknown person. Though Jess wasn’t about to give Nicky a hard time about it, everyone had a right to go without the hassle of being in the spotlight. “I’m Jess, this is Casey.” She introduced Casey to the other as she slid her paperwork into one stack. She could figure it all out later anyway. Right now they were here to enjoy the day right? Well really, she was here because she needed to get stuff done; but maybe the others could use study help or something. OOC: It's short. I was mid-post when I had to leave the house. Came back and I drew a blank. Sorry ♡[googlefont="Pinyon Script"]

Tag: Jessica "Jess" Ranen, Nicky Reagan - BoyleWord Count: 286 OC Note: Firstly, sorry for the lateness. I got distracted by other things and when that happens everything else in my life kind of gets shoved in the corner. Apologies. Secondly, I don't know what this is but I hope it's good enough for you guys.
Casey smiled as she shook Jess' hand. “Well, in that case, you can call me Red. Most of my friends do.” Casey's plan to distract herself from her work; thus procrastinating was working like a charm so far. So far, she had set her eyes on a target to help her and got their attention. Step two was learning the target's name. 'Now' Casey thought. 'All I have to do is find a common subject that doesn't require too much work. But what'. Before Casey could come up with a suitable topic; another woman walked up to them asking if they could join them. Casey nodded as Jess' gave a verbal answer. The more people, the merrier in her books.
Casey leaned over the other chair that had her junk on it and moved them under the table so that the new woman could join them. Casey straightened up just as Jess was introducing them and gave the girl a toothy grin. “In case you missed it, my friends call me Red, so you can as well.” Casey tilted her head to the side. “Would it be rude of me to inquire as to who you are? “ Ever since Casey had moved to Chicago, she had been doing her best to learn the faces of the people she met. It was never a bad thing; plus it was practice for if she ever had to question, catch or arrest anyone. Having been improvised with another introduction; Casey hoped that step three could be moved on to a common topic just as soon as she learned this new girls' name. Picking up her coffee, she sipped it waiting someone else to make the move.

Nicky smiled, the girl did seem familiar but then between cops, school and State’s attorney’s office she had a lot of faces to remember but this struck her as a class mate. It would hardly be the first time she had been wrong but then again she tried not to be. Her last name got her unwanted attention and that she liked to stay away from but it was unavoidable at times. “Thanks Jess, this place seems to get busy quick.” She stated as she looked to the other girl at the table and smiled. “Thanks Red.” She said as she took a seat that was cleared for her as she dropped her bag to the floor and placed her coffee on the table. Nicky realised when Red inquired about who she was that she had forgotten to give her name, she had been used to it being known before she could even open her mouth some days that finding a person who knew little about her was a refreshing change. “Oh sorry, not rude at all.” Nicky explained as she held out her hand to Red and then Jess, “I’m Nicky and my friends call me that too, Nick or Nicky is good with me.” It was best she thought to leave out her last name at least for the beginning, it was a lot of trouble some days and now joining the academy too she knew it would just get worse. Jamie had suffered it and Danny too but she had no plans to do the same. She wanted to be treated just like any other cop though it would be an uphill battle. She was however getting coffee and things for the start of her new career so really that was tomorrow’s problem. “So what are you both studying?” She asked glancing at the papers not sure if they were just Jess’ or Casey’s too. After all she had done a lot of her homework in a cafe at times so it was nothing new to her at all. New to her mother but then what Erin was unaware of could stay that way given the family talent for knowing all, all of the time. Jessica "Jess" Ranen, @amberrae,

Tag: Nicky Reagan - Boyle Word Count: 287 OC Note: Apologies for the lateness and the shortness. Hope this is ok. I've been struggling with my muse again lately -_-
"Anytime" Casey muttered, nodding her head in Nicky's direction. She usually loved observing people. It was one of her favorite pastimes as it helped get her out of a lot of trouble. And she knew how to get someone riled up easily; as it made for a fun and entertaining distraction when Casey didn't want do a whole lot of work. The observation skills was part of the reason why she wanted to be a cop in the first place. She knew she wasn't a professional and more often than not; she got a lot of her assumptions wrong; but when she got something right; she never let it go until someone snapped at her. That's why when Nicky just gave her first name; she didn't think much of it; as no one else really said their last names either.
A ringing noise came from Jess' direction and she excused herself to answer it. Casey nodded and looked back to Jess as she asked her what she was studying. “Oh, um, I don't know about her, but I'm trying to read this stupidhandbook. I'm a cadet at a police academy. How about yourself?” Casey nodded her head in the direction of Nicky's things. Before Nicky could answer them, Jess came back with a worried look on her face. “Is everything ok?” Casey asked concerned. Jess stated something about a family emergency as she gathered her things. She bade them both goodbye before rushing out the door.
“Oh, um, ok. Bye then?” Casey muttered, sounding unsure after Jess had left. She looked back to Nicky after a moment and gave her a sheepish smile. "So, I guess it's just you and I then?”

Coming from a family of cops Nicky knew how to read people at least at a basic level, she was far from naive in a sense but more idealistic which she knew would change the minute she passed the academy if she could. It was a while off yet though honestly it had to be the most exciting thing she had done. The first Reagan female cop if she could make it or the first female Reagan drop out but still at least she could blame Hank for that part though she doubted she would.
As the phone started ringing Nicky tried to amuse herself with something else, glad that Casey had spoken. “You’re a cadet?” Nicky blurted grinning at the woman. “I’m about to be a cadet, I’ve a couple of weeks before academy starts so I’ve been searching the city to get the stuff I need.” Nicky had wanted to do it on her own, no family help and no hand outs so she was out trying to find her own way which she had been successful with for the most part.
Nicky saw the worried look and heard the family emergency; she knew how those calls went. If there was a Reagan emergency then it was bad and she knew to stop what she was doing and get home. It was like the bat signal at times, no arguing you just went. “Bye.” Nicky said sorry to see her leave but family was important. “I guess so; I don’t usually have that affect on people though. It usually takes a family dinner to have them running off like that.” She joked grinning. “So tell me about Academy, is it as great as I think or am I hearing too many good stories about the place?” She asked eagerly.
(It is great and do not worry about it take as much time as you need.) @amberrae,

Word Count: 334 OC Note: Here you are. Hopefully it makes sense at least.
Casey sipped her coffee hiding a smirk at the excited outburst her being a cadet brought on. It was definitely different from the disbelieving looks and scowls that she received when she told her family and friends. Not that they weren't supportive; but Casey was known for being the lazy one out of the group so it was a surprise when they found out that one of the most uninspiring woman wanted to work in a field that required a lot of work. She glanced back in the direction Jess walked off and shrugged. “I suppose so. I hope everything's ok with her” Despite having only known Jess for all but ten minutes, Casey couldn't help but feel a bit concerned for the woman. Nevertheless, she shook those thoughts away and glanced back at Nikki and nodded her head; placing her cup back on the table. “Yep. I might not be that bright; but I know I want to help people in live. So, why not go big, eh?” Casey tilted her head in thought. “Though, I suppose joining the army would be a bigger thing to do; but, I'm not sure they let anyone with a learning disability in that area. So, I settled as a Cadet. Hence all this boring paperwork.” Casey grumbled, pointing out all the packets and what not. Casey shrugged and tapped her nails on the table, looking at Nikki as she did so. “I think that's admirable that you're doing it on your own. Is your whole family part of the force or are you branching out?” Casey tilted her head once more, trying to consider whether the academy was hard or not. “Honestly? I'm not sure what to think of it yet. I like the academy; just so much to learn and a lot of reading; which I suppose if you like that, it could be fun. I'm doing research on legal knowledge at the moment.” Casey pointed to one of the packets that read “Legal Knowledge”.

Nicky was at the point where the work seemed a long way off and all she wanted to do was to get into the cadet uniform and start work. Coming from a family of cops almost everyone was excited or she hoped they were. Her mum however well that was more for her to decide where she was with all of it but at least Hank seemed to be okay with it. Nicky was hardly giving them an option on the matter as she had finished university as she had been asked to and now her life was hers to throw into the ring for being a cop.
“I’m sure it will be.” Nicky said glancing over at Jess for a moment before she took a sip of her drink. Honestly who would have thought she would bump into a police cadet today, it was easier this way than asking her grandfather if he could let her meet one or go on a ride along. The last time she had done that it ended with her seeing a dead body and Danny taking a serious talking to from her mother. “Hey don’t do yourself down, you’re training to be a cop so you’re bright and yes helping people in life is great.” Nicky said smiling.
She wanted to be the first female Reagan cop and to do some right in the world, to carry the family name and know that Jamie and Joe had been done right by them all. “Army, well you’re joining an army of cops so hey technically you’re part of an army and it’s good that you’re not letting that stop you at all. Besides it makes you better and more determined I think.” She said positively, it was good that Casey was joinging as she glanced at the paper work.
“I thought that only started when you managed to be cop, not before.” She said with a sigh, yes the paperwork was going to be a killer by the looks of it. Nicky smiled as Casey asked about her family, it made a nice change from being recognised or treated differently because of it. “Well my entire family is involved somehow; my uncle Danny is a detective. Uncle Jamie and Joe they lost their lives in the line of duty. My mum she’s the State’s Attorney and my grandpa, he’s the Police Commissioner here. So it’s sort of keeping the family business going.” Nicky explained not sure if that was a good thing or not these days.
“Legal knowledge, well let me know if you need a hand I can ask my mum for advice on that. It seems like a lot of paperwork for cadets.” Nicky said looking toward the packets, “But as long as it’s fun, learning too but I just can’t wait to actually be out there if I pass. To get to help people on the ground and not from a distance you know.” She said excitedly.
(Notes: It is great and makes perfect sense.)

Tag(s): Nicky Reagan - Boyle Word Count: 360 Note(s): I'm sorry this is late. I don't have an excuse. Please forgive me and hope this makes up for that. >< Despite what Casey often voiced about herself; she knew that she was already doing something that not a lot of people could. Despite all odds against her; Casey was a cadet and before long, she would be one of those people protecting people. However, Casey wasn't stupid. While she had gotten further than what she thought possible; Casey did have her flaws. She was overly confident and cocky. She got in people's faces and didn't know when to back down; and though she had learned to get through it; her dyslexia may get in the way of something important. Those, at least in Casey's mind; and her parents as well were qualities that could make or break her. Especially nowadays where people were so against the men and women in blue now a days and would no doubt be making any excuse to make her look like the enemy. However, Casey didn't want to voice those thoughts. She had a feeling that the boss would think that she couldn't handle being a policewoman and would take her off the program. No, for now, it was better to remain as confident as possible; while also still being human. Instead, Casey gave Nicky a grateful smile and leaned back in her chair; crossing her arms as she did so. “Well, thank you for the vote in confidence.”Casey let out a genuine smile at the army comment and shook her head in bemusement. “You've got a point there I suppose.” Casey groaned as the paperwork was brought up. “Sadly; you do have some work. It's basically just a bunch of packets and what not on what the regulations are. You know, what you can and can't do as a cop. You'd think they'd just give you a lecture and stop at that.” Casey shrugged. “I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end”Casey nodded. “That would be appreciated. Any help I can get on the legality laws and what not would be greatly appreciated.” Casey leaned forward; her own excitement seeping through. “Oh, I know. I can't wait. I can be an ass without breaking the law now.” Casey half joked.

Nicky had never been surer about her choice in career, it went against her mother’s wishes but then she had seen what a difference lawyers made and with her uncle Joe and Jamie’s deaths while on duty. She felt she owed it to the family to tow the line and become the cop the Reagan family needed. Her grandfather was the Commissioner, her mother the State’s Attorney, her other uncle a detective so really there needed to be another patrol officer in the family to make up the difference.
To Nicky it was the family duty, she had wanted to be a cop for years but she had done the right thing in college and university. She had her flaws as she still felt the world had no grey area, there was right and wrong and no bad for good reasons. She was idealistic and the sort of person who would try to do the right thing no matter what. It had already caused issues in her life when she tried to interfere on a domestic case with Jamie and that lead to a whole world of trouble for everyone involved.
Now she was just trying to learn what she could to make it through academy on her own feet without Hank or her mother or grandfather paving her way and making it easy. “Glad to besides you’ve made it this far so you’ll get there. I guess it just takes time and commitment, no easy option right.” Nicky said not entirely sure that was true but she had never been the sort to do things the easy way. Especially when it came to being a cop. “So we get to sign our lives away to the law, I guess it makes sense but really reading this stuff how are we supposed to be a cadet and get time.” Nick said not that she was complaining but it was a lot.
“I hope so, we just need to know the law inside out and see what we can do.” Nicky added not entirely sure she was going to remember it all but someone had to try. “Yes sure, that law I can I help out it’s just the rest that is daunting.” Nicky said though she was too excited to let that bother her much. It was a case of she was too excited not to let it bother her and too excited to realise how much there was to it. “Now that sounds like fun, think we’ll get shouted at and called an ass more than we get to be one though.” Nicky said having known that cops were not in the best of favours these days.
(Do not worry about it take as much time as you need, no excuses required.) @amberrae,
