Few lawyers shot people, their shots were with words and paper in a court room or when they ventured out to see the people they were arguing over in the first place but he couldnt exactly tell her that. No she had done the right thing no matter how tough it was, if not then it might not have been just Thomas in the hospital. He dreaded to think what things would have been like if it had been Erin or Sharon or rather he knew exactly how that would have gone. He wouldnt have been at the hospital, no he would have been breaking things outside of it to find who was responsible.
Hank stared at Erin for a moment, he never doubted she had guts but to put her hand over his gun when he was about ten seconds away from using it. That took a lot as he saw in her eyes what she wanted to say. The feeling of her hand on his back as for a moment he considered his options before he lowered his weapon. She had defended him once but twice was too much, no not after the day they had already. “No, no it’s not.” He said still glaring at the reporter even though he wanted to argue with Erin on the time it was.
He was trying to protect her the way he knew how and people needed to know that she was off limits on a day like that. He nodded to her request, “Sure, we’ll go home.” He said still keeping his arm around her as felt her thumb run over the small of his back. Hank stared at the gun and then at Erin as he nodded, “It’s okay it wont hurt you and I wont either.” He said not wanting her to be afraid, guns were part of life especially a cops life and the last thing he wanted was for her to be afraid of it.
He rubbed his hand over her back nodding as he put the gun back on his belt. “Tomorrow I’m going to take you to the range okay.” He said not wanting to give her an option on that one. Better that she can still shoot after the fact than to put herself in harm’s way because she was afraid of something that might save her life. “Come on let’s get you home.” He said smiling weakly at her as he stood there not wanting to move too far from her.

Erin relaxed some once Hank had put his gun away. Glad he had backed down the relief visible in her eyes. Erin was feeling sick to her stomach and didn't want to deal with much of anything right now. Hank was making it extremely difficult to deal with everything and her own emotions but she knew he was only trying to help. She kissed the side of his shoulder gently reminding him there were other ways to take care of things.
"It kills people." No that made no sense. People killed people. But by that deduction she killed people and that made less sense. No, definitely guns killed people. That made her feel better. Then again Timothy McVee threw a nice hole in her logical thinking. The guy had killed with fertilizer. No she was losing her mind. "I know you won't. It's that." She pointed at the gun. "I don't trust it." She buried her head. Erin had started shaking all over again.
There wasnt room for argument on that one was there? Erin might argue it in the morning but now was not the time. She realized by home he didn't mean their crime scene of a house right now. "Yeah. Home." Aside from nodding it was all she could come up with for a response. Erin felt so weak right now. She was being less clingy here than she felt. But today had taken its toll on her.
OOC: we can keep going here into the gun range if you want

Hank could see the relief in her eyes when he backed down, it wasnt that he wanted to make her feel uncomfortable or to hurt her in anyway he was simply trying to help her the best way he knew how to. He smiled as she kissed his shoulder, it was strange to think that there were other ways to the ones he knew and the ones he had tried and tested with a pretty successful pass rate. Honestly a healthy dose of fear didnt a lot of people good and he was just looking after family.
There was no way he could argue with her sense right then, people killed people in all sorts of different ways. There were the obvious ones and then there were the ways that you had to look twice at just to understand how anyone could. Hank stared at the gun she pointed at as he nodded to her. “Erin, it’s not the gun it’s the person behind it and we both know how to use the thing.” He said not sure where he was going with it but still he was trying. “If we use a gun it’s to protect people not to deliberately injure or take a life. There’s a difference.” He said deciding that there was a big difference with that.
“We’ll go to Sharon’s place, it’s near enough home and you can get some rest before tomorrow okay?” He said knowing he would argue with her to the death about going to the range. There was something to be said about getting right back onto the horse and the one thing he knew was the longer someone took the bigger the hurdle they had to jump. As a cop he had to trust his partner would make a shot if they had to and in his head it was no different with Erin, if he couldnt make it for whatever reason he needed to be sure to protect herself she could.

Erin didn't argue with Hank. There wasn't enough energy for that. Instead, she just folded and accepted his answer even if she wanted to argue about every reason under the sun that a gun was the issue. The way he made it sound made her sound like a killer and that was something she refused to believe. Erin was quiet and fell asleep in the car. She didn't wake up until they got to Sharon's place.
Once they did she fell right back asleep but refused to be far from Hank. Erin's sense of safety right now was skewed. She'd fallen back asleep after a few hours passed but only slept because she was so emotionally exhausted. Though she didn't want to think about their plans for the next day. The last place Erin wanted to go was the range, but she knew deep down Hank wasn't going to give her a choice on the matter.
Getting up the next morning consisted of waking up realizing she didn't want to wake up and trying to go back to head. She buried her head in the pillow and rolled against Hank. Nope, she wasn't going to wake up. There was a loud groan of displeasure at the light coming from the window. "No, go away" she grumbled as she shielded her eyes. She buried her head further into the pillow and against Hank's shoulder. Erin had never been a morning person to begin with.

Erin wasnt a killer he knew that, she had killed someone but it was for a reason. She wasnt the sort that she saw in a court room or the kind of case that came across his desk, no she had killed to save others that might have been killed had nothing been done. If she had a badge then the word hero might have been used and yes to him she was his hero though he knew not to even bring that up for fear of making things any worse than they already were. It was tough one to explain given that someone was still dead at the end of the day but then it might have been three or four of them had nothing happened.
Getting to Sharon’s place he noticed she didnt go far from him, not that he minded at all as he would be right beside her no matter what was going on. After a few hours and falling asleep Hank found himself staring at the ceiling for most of the night. He played back every choice he had made that day, the saying yes to Thomas and Sharon and now that the guy looked like he’d live could he take it back. A ‘sorry thought you weren’t going to make it’ statement of life because he now wasnt sure he wanted to agree to it.
Too many people were getting shot and this was the second time he knew of for Thomas. Maybe it was Hank, maybe he was just bad luck because he would have been home alone had it not been for Erin being there and then Sharon and Thomas and what if it had been any one of those. His mind was playing each step, each thought and the looks on the faces until the morning as he realised that getting sleep had been on and off as he felt Erin bury her head in the pillow as she rolled against him. He smiled hearing the loud groan of displeasure at the light from the window.
“Looks like it morning all over again.” He said a little too cheerily given that he had been away anyway. He brushed some hair from her face as he smile knowing that Erin hadn’t been a morning person. Neither was he exactly but once you got up at certain times often enough it was more of a habit than a choice. “You want to stay in today?” He offered though he knew he was taking her to the range regardless of what she said for the simple fact it was better to get right back into things. “I could cook you a microwave meal if you want?” He offered though he wasnt sure if that needed to be taken more as a threat than an act of kindness even if he was trying to help.

Erin was glad that Hank had simply dropped the conversation the night before and hadn’t called her out on being glue. Erin wasn’t even sure how she had managed sleep. It was likely that her body had just crashed, giving up any hope she had of trying to stay awake.
Hearing Hank being cheery she put her pillow over her head but was too late. Hank’s hand was trapped between her face the pillow. She felt him brush her hair side and she rolled over to face him throwing the pillow at the wall. “Too happy.” She grumbled. If it was one thing her husband liked doing it was getting under her skin in the mornings. “It’s too early for your bait” she muttered rubbing her eyes. It wasn’t that Erin didn’t get up in the mornings for work, that was like clock work but she needed her coffee and morning run before she was halfway cheery. Erin had her routine.
“Too early to think about food.” She mock complained. “Coffee. Run. Work.” It was clockwork for her, though she knew that Hank wasn’t about to let her go to work. Well, the side that wasn’t awake yet knew that. She slowly sat up. She kissed him softly before she snuggled against his shoulder threatening to fall asleep once more.

Hank chuckled seeing her place the pillow over her head, it felt strange to laugh about anything given the previous day but then he was trying to cling on to whatever normal had to offer. Normal was Erin not being the morning person as he watched her throw the pillow at the wall. “Always happy when I’m with you.” He said grinning knowing it was getting under her skin but then he always liked to do that most days. Morning, afternoon or night he was simply happy to able to do that.
“Bait... what bait? Was only asking if you wanted to stay in because it doesn’t look like you’re too enthusiastic about getting up.” He said trying not to chuckle too much in case of annoying her at all. Work was a different thing but then before coffee and her morning run, routine wasnt exactly part of the day at all when he thought about where they were. No he didnt just stay over at Sharon’s without a reason and when he thought about that reason yes it was on him as he listened to her talk about being too early for food.
Her clockwork routine, “Coffee, Run and no work how does that sound?” He offered, “I’ll even take the threat of a mirco meal off the table too councillor.” He said deciding that maybe bargaining was the way to go on this occasion. When she kissed him Hank just smiled as she snuggled against his shoulder, “You can stay there all day.” He said smiling as he stared up at the ceiling, there were days when he knew he was lucky and then these sort of days when he couldnt imagine what he had done to even be this lucky as he placed his free arm around her.

Erin grumbled. “I’m happy to see you too.” She was always glad to see him. Even when he was being a grumpy butt in the mornings. She was hardly like this when her alarm went off but on days she didn’t have to be anywhere, she would hide for ages.
Of course he would take work out of the equation. She didn’t want to agree to not going to work. He never understood he needing to normalize anything. Work was normal. Being a pill at this time of the morning on her days off was normal. “I have court at three. I can’t just not show up.” She reached over kissing him as she picked her head up. “Coffee, Run, whatever you had planned, court.” She reasoned as she pulled back. Erin could argue with him about going to work and totally be wrapped up in his arms at the same time. She hardly minded.
Erin slipped out of bed but it was more of a small roll on his shoulder. There was a routine to get this getting up thing when she didn’t need to be awake. “There is a cafe just down the street?” He was apparently hungrier than she was, but she knew she could get decent coffee there. Right, there was that. She ran a hand through her hair, she looked like she had slept on it. Her clothes were in her bag from the hospital. It was going to have to suffice for the day. "On second thought, scratch the running. I'm not running in boots" Erin was a runner and that's how she outlet a lot of her stuff.

“Sounds like it.” He teased her grinning though he knew she was it was just the whole mornings thing. To him his mornings were either early or he was still working which meant that afternoon was usually his morning if he managed to get any sleep at all. It was a stark difference between the two, the work mornings and the days off though that day he didnt mind staying where he was at all.
Hank shrugged when she mentioned court, of course she had court he thought as he tried not to say just to hand it off to one of the other lawyers in the city. He smiled as she kissed him as he decided not to argue too much given the morning. “Fine, but I’m going with you to all of it. Even dreaded court.” He said not wanting to let her out of his sight at all that day. Court was another pet hate of his and having to appear was like the biggest waste of a day unless it resulted in a conviction. That he could waste any day.
He smiled when she did a small roll on his shoulder, the routine was there he thought as he grinned nodding to her. “Sure the cafe works for me, coffee and food and great company, what could be better.” He said though really the entire previous day could have gone a lot better but he was trying to be normal. “Yeah I would have gone running with you too but... you know maybe not.” He said grinning at her as he wrapped his arms around her. “No running is the best choice of the day, a better one is no court but then that’s just me.” He offered though really that would be the better of the two he thought.

Erin got dressed and looked over her shoulder at Hank. Once she was done she came over to his side of the bed and locked lips with him. “I’d tell you I’ll be okay on my own; but we both know you won’t listen.” She smirked pulling back. “Come on let’s go get breakfast,” her voice was encouraging him to get out of bed. Erin was feeling more of herself; but she being out of the hospital and being able to somewhat normalize her routine today was helping.
Court was a normal part of her day and it gave her something to focus on. While Hank wasn’t a fan of court, it was a normal part of Erin’s work. Something most avoided when they became the State’s Attorney but Erin still saw it as part of her job to help prosecute cases on top of running the office. Making others do her work was not something she excelled in.
Erin sat down on the bed beside him and started running her fingers up and down his chest. “Don’t get too comfy.” She whispered before getting up and heading out of the bedroom. It wasn’t until she got out of the bedroom and into the kitchen it hit her that things last night left their house a crime scene.
Sighing she grabbed her purse off the chair where she had left it last night. Looking for her phones she sighed. Hank had both of them. Erin had a feeling that she wasn’t about to get either of them back anytime soon.

Kissing her back he could have stayed in bed all day and not made a move to leave the apartment. When she spoke about being alright on her own he had every single argument against that lined up in his head as he grinned at her. “Yeah you know me too well. So nope I’m going too just don’t run too fast.” He said grinning as he nodded about breakfast. The option of food sounded pretty good to him right at that moment, the hospital was a distant thing though he hoped Sharon was alright and the normal, well it helped a lot more than he thought it might do.
To Hank court was the place where he felt like he was being interrogated and there was no fighting back, it was all fancy words and lawyers trying to get the guilty off on a technicality because he had done something one way and everyone else said it should be another. Not that given his brush with almost more jail time didnt have him appreciating Erin all the more for keeping him out of it, defence lawyers were the worst.
“What if that’s too late?” He said smiling up at her as she ran her fingers up and down his chest before he watched her head out of the bedroom. Great, he was moving now he thought as he got out of bed, quickly showered and got dressed. He for a second thought about going home but then after the CPD had been through it he would try and keep Erin away long enough that he could straighten the place out and make it feel less like a crime scene if he could.
Hank picked up his jacket that still had both of her phones in it as he thought about giving then back but then no, work could wait. It wasnt like Erin didnt have her own things to deal with as he made sure he had his wallet and keys as he walked toward her. “So are we ready to go on this jogging breakfast?” He asked her trying to be as normal as possible. Then again if she ate first then maybe she would hand court off to someone else as he considered texting one of the other lawyers and just telling them to do that. Than again was it worth making anything more stressful for Erin, nope though in his head it might make it better for her.

Erin was mostly herself through breakfast as she tried to just get into her routine, but then again without her morning jog she was grouchy by the time they got to the firing range. Her head was focused on her court appearance later and it was what had been keeping her head out of everything that had happened the night before.
The sound of the shots going off in the range caused her to stop. Erin looked like she wanted to take off. Though she had a feeling that Hank had a reason for them being here. It wasn’t like Erin couldn’t put two and two together, though she wasn’t sure if she was ready for this yet. Then again she knew the expression about falling off a horse as well as the next person.
The gun which she had used in the shooting was currently part of evidence; but her own was not and it didn’t take her long to notice that Hank had it with them. Their guns weren’t too dissimilar, hers just had a smaller grip. Her dad had always taught her that a .22 wasn’t enough firepower.
This wasn’t about Erin not being a good shot; because she was an awesome shot. As good as most cops, if not better than some. This was about Erin not letting the incident get in her way. Hearing more shots fired she just looked at Hank and shook her head no. Though she doubted it would get her anywhere.

Hank was trying, or at least he was trying something that he thought might work or help at least. A controlled environment where going through the motions might help. It sounded crazy and maybe to someone to who wasnt a cop it was a bit nuts but then if there was a next time he didnt need Erin second guessing herself on what to do to save her own life if not others. She had a gun she was a great shot and she knew what she had to do. He just wished she hadn’t had to do that the other day.
The shots he could here were like water off a ducks back to Hank, he was used to the sound of it all if not from work from being outside and getting shot at. Though if Erin ever asked it was simply because he visited the range a lot. Hank could see that Erin looked as if she might bolt at any moment but he tried to smile and nod and encourage her a little at least. It wasnt easy for anyone but then he was used to doing this exact routine every time simply to stop the second guessing.
Hank knew it wasnt going to be easy but he knew that he had to push this one or the no would be forever. “Sorry Erin.” He said nodding his head as he handed her her own gun. “It’s just target practice, just a few shots and then I get to watch you in court.” He said trying to make the normal part of the day as something to look forward to. At least it was Erin working and not some other lawyer.
He reached out to put an arm around Erin for a moment, “I promise it will be easier once you start okay.” He said knowing it would be but then Erin wasnt a cop, it was less likely she would need to shoot someone but in the event that it did occur like yesterday he wanted to know she wouldnt hesitate. Hank knew he was pushing but it was for a reason not just because he was being stubborn about things. If it was Erin, Sharon or Thomas he would be right there doing the same thing, well maybe not the fed but still the sentiment was there.

Erin wasn’t a cop, she was a lawyer. She knew what a gun could do. She saw the people who used them everyday in court. The people who fired their weapons to kill another. The criminals who didn’t have any care for another being. It was an instrument used to kill someone. It wasn’t the gun’s fault. Erin knew better than to think that Hank would balk at gunfire. He was a cop and she knew he wasn’t exactly afraid to pull the trigger or make enemies. She’d be naive to think no one had ever shot at him. Erin didn’t like the apology. Looking at her gun and then back him she wasn’t so sure that she wanted to take the gun in her hand. She felt his arm wrap around her and she nodded her head. Reaching for her weapon she pulled her arm back and then looked towards him before finally wrapping her hand around her gun but not taking it from him just yet. You did what you had to do Erin. You aren’t a killer. It’s just target practice this time, it used to be fun remember. She loved to go to the range and shoot. Her and Danny had used to make it a competition of who could shoot better than the other. They’d made learning how to fire a game when they were young. They were still competitive about it. There was little she could do about what she had done; but what was she accomplishing by being afraid of the one thing that had saved lives? Erin looked to Hank for reassurance before she took her weapon from him. Except she was shaking. Erin didn’t have words out loud, just facial expressions to show the apprehension she was feeling.

Hank was the sort of person that sometimes even the good guys wanted to shoot him but in his mind he wasnt doing his job right if they didnt. Gunfire was a day to day life thing for him, not that he sought it out or particularly loved the sound but a range was the more controlled version of the street. At least all the bullets were going one way, down range and away from the people that mattered.
It was just a case of not giving up as he still held the gun out for Erin to take, he knew she wasnt a killer and taking a life wasnt easy. She was a lawyer and not exactly trained to deal with what came next but getting back to the range was his only way, he wondered how Nicky would take things if she ever had to do anything like it but then he knew he would drag Nicky down there too if it was what it took to get them to see that they needed to do it to help.
Hank smiled when he saw her nod her head as he watched her reach for the weapon. He still held it when she had her hand around her gun as he nodded again. “See there you go, just like before.” He said trying to be supportive, seeing her look for reassurance he rubbed her back lightly when she took the gun from him. “It’s okay Erin, just take your time.” He said as he motioned to a free booth to stand and shoot from.
He placed the magazine on the shelf as he handed her the earmuffs. “So here’s the deal, I bet you a foot massage that you cant hit the twenty five yard target and a steak dinner you can’t group three shots in the bulls eye and family dinner cooked by me if you hit the fifty yard target.” He said confidently though he knew in his heart of hearts he had likely lost if she could pull the trigger. Then again him cooking family dinner it might be a good thing to lose as he didnt have a speed dial for pizza for nothing. Not that he minded at all as it was worth any amount to know that Erin was able to fire the gun again even at a paper target was a step forward.
