Rachel was still trying to wrap her head around things, it was her first day back to work after the accident and her partner wasn’t there to tell her things would be okay. No she still spoke to Michael but it wasn’t the same as walking back through the doors with him, no it was entirely different and she didnt like the feeling at all. It felt like she was missing an arm or a vital part of her but she knew she’d have a new partner. That was just as scary in itself.
She shook the thought from her head as she approached the front desk of the department. The Sergeant would know who she was working with today she told herself trying to hide the look of dread on her face. Not a crazy person, not a crazy person she muttered under her breath as every step she took she considered picking up the phone and calling her previous partner for moral support. No she was better than that, stronger than that and she needed to let him be she thought as she rocked back on her heels.
“Sergeant, you got a new partner for me today?” She asked the desk sergeant who was on duty as she fastened her radio around her waist. First day back, new beginnings and all, how bad could it honestly be? She asked herself before she regretted that because she had seen how bad it could be and if that was to be her for the next however long, a career change was looking pretty rosy by now. Still Rachel waited to see who was on the roster with her that day as she picked away at the belt she wore that felt ten pounds heavier than last time.

all the kids cried out please stop you're scaring me I can't help this awful energy god damn right you should be scared of me who is in control? Since the hostage situation it had been a hard going for Jamie. But she was back now and finally cleared for duty other than desk duty. Sure she was the patrol lieutenant but she preferred to be on the streets rather than behind a desk. She didn't think of herself as better than the rest of the squadron just because of some title she held in front of her name. She preferred to understand what the streets were like, to better understand how the officers were reacting. Jamie had taken a particular interest in Rachel's case, mainly because she knew that Michael had been a long time partner of her's and medical discharges were not easy on either one. Jamie interrupted the sergeant before she could speak. "I got this Sergeant." Jamie pointed out the sergeant shrugged and nodded. "Whatever you say Lieutenant" there were lots of patrol Lieutenants, but the one who was in charge of the unit? Was this woman nuts? "Rachel" She greeted her friendly. There was no point in tossing around last names. "Jamie." She extended a hand. Jamie wasn't sure she wanted to start in on apologizing for Michael's injury in the car accident but she didnt want to downplay Rachel's feelings either. "It's good to see you back, how are you?" Jamie wasn't just making small talk. She actually cared about the officers; not like Masterson, oh Jamie had heard that disaster and didn't want Rachel to have that experience again. Jamie was still getting over the fact her last partner had almost gotten her killed; but she had to move on from that. Not everyone was like that, maybe she had just been overturning all the wrong rocks.

Rachel looked around to see the Lieutenant, well this was bad she thought. Who was she being partnered with now if they needed the Patrol Lieutenant to tell her, it had to be Masterton again she thought as she tried to hide the look on her face at that. No if she got partnered with that sack of potato’s then she was dragging Michael back piece by piece no matter what state he was in, she didnt care. She could do all the running, jumping and flying for him and he could just sit in the car.
With a smile Rachel greeted the Lieutenant, “Jamie, nice to meet you.” She said as she took the woman’s extended hand and shook it for a moment. Rachel wasn’t sure how to respond to that, she was back but it felt like her left hand wasn’t back at all. Still landing at on someone already wasn’t really her style as she nodded and smiled. “Just glad to be back, cant take any more time off and day time TV.” She joked though it was getting close to ridiculous, she knew more issues about the Kardashian’s than she did her own family.
Even her daughter seemed to sleep more when she was around which made the day drag when her husband was out working. The last few days she had turned into the crazy person who hovered by the phone waiting for a call, beat the mail man to the door and considered redecorating the house ten times over. “It’s good to see you back too Lieutenant, how are you finding things?” She asked generally concerned after all a car accident was one thing but a hostage situation was entirely another.

all the kids cried out please stop you're scaring me I can't help this awful energy god damn right you should be scared of me who is in control? Jamison had heard all about the Masterson debacle, in fact the guy was actually on probation. Jamie wasn't exactly pleased with that jerk. Though there was only so much she could do. Jamie grabbed the patrol keys off the desk. "Think fast" she stated as she tossed the keys lightly towards the other woman. She knew Michael had been driving the day of the crash, so maybe Rachel might feel more comfortable in the driver's seat. "I guess now is a good a time as any to tell you that I'm demoting Masterson and putting myself back on the street." She set a friendly hand on Rachel's shoulder. "You can relax, I'm not going to bark down your throat. We will figure out works for us." It had been almost six months since Jamie had been a partner. She just hoped that her IA reputation didn't have others having some preconcieved notion about how she worked. At the end of the day Jamie just wanted to be able to go home at the end of shift. Keep those around her safe. "I think I finally got some much needed sleep. My youngest finally let's me sleep through the night." She turned the talk to family. It wasn't about her personal turmoil but it was close enough to personal to attempt to form a friendship with the other woman. Jamie wasn't really the friendly buddy buddy spill your guts type; but at the end of the day, she was human and she had a family and people around her that mattered. Jamie was fiercely protective once she got close to someone. She'd jumped in front of a bullet for her sister, it was just who she was. Yet somehow she always got the short end of the stick.

Rachel reached to catch the keys as she smiled, she hadn’t been in a patrol car since the day of the crash and in the beginning it had been bad enough in the family car. She had picked Braden up on everything, even down to driving too close to the side of the road not that he had but her head was taking a battering in not yelling look out for the bike ten miles away. She thumbed over the keys as she looked at them for a moment, it was just a car she thought. “Thanks.” She said though her head hadn’t even gotten to the partner part.
As Jamie spoke Rachel listened trying to keep the smile off her face as she spoke about Masterton. He was demoted and wait what was happening, Oxford was back on the street? Instantly she could feel herself tense, the Lieutenant was going to be working with her and not barking at her, well how long had she been away from the CPD? “Can’t say i’m not happy to hear about Masterton.” She stated deciding not to go full blow ‘this is everything wrong with the guy’ on Jamie off the bat. “I guess we will but before I lock myself in a car with you, one question. Are you a Kardashian fan?” Rachel asked.
It was a strange question but after day time TV she swore it should be an arrest able offence, still as long as the answer was no Rachel felt that she could try and get along with the woman. After all how bad could she be as she took it back as soon as she thought it. At the turn toward family talk Rachel grinned and nodded, “That is a nice stage to get to.” She said with a nod, “Mine I think is just glad I’m back here, just over the year and you’d think it would be easier but now it’s all. Don’t touch, dont eat, put it down. I swear it’s like working here except without the drama.” She joked trying to find some common ground with the woman.
Rachel wasn’t exactly the let’s get manicures and drink Prosecco all night with the girls type but if the Lieutenant was trying to reach out and form a friendship she wasn’t about to cut that off. Especially not if she was going to be working with her, though Rachel was protective once she got to know someone. She’d never have though she would have been over a fed but Michael was more like her brother than anything so that came with a certain level of protectiveness for a crazy person.
