Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline continued from if today was your last day“You know you’re not my wife Harris, you don’t get to give me orders and I will spin like a fairy if I want to.” Stephanie had tried her best not to laugh because laughing hurt but she couldn’t contain the laughter. “I will be sure to get you a pink and purple tutu Hudson” she teased back. “I’ll make sure he behaves” Kelle's voice. Stephanie smirked. “That’s a full time job” her voice was weakening and she was shivering more. Usually she was the one on the ladder helping people down. This was all backwards. Closing her eyes she tried not to think about the drop and trusting the other. No she trusted those in the firehouse. She gave smart remarks to Kelly as they went down the ladder. Something to occupy her mind. When she was loaded into the ambulance she could only worry as she watched the chopper taking off with Peter. The sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach, she was screaming on the inside. Though she felt like tossing her stomach contents, but didn’t. “Dog tags, ankle.” She pointed out. It had all her medical information on there. At least she was awake to tell them that. Stephanie didn’t like things on her neck. Most of the house knew it but she wasn’t really thinking much anymore. Her emotions were so numb that she could feel the sensation in her body.

"Ankle, right, got it." Kelle nodded, glancing at Steven, who was closer to the back doors and therefore in a better position to get to the anklet, and to start a second IV, one that Kelle was spiking right now as she sat at the head of the gurney, monitoring Stephanie's vital signs. "How are you feeling?" she asked, twisting a bit so that she wasn't looking at the other woman upside-down. "You look pretty good, all things considered." So far, at least, Stephanie's color was holding and she wasn't clammy yet, but her pulse was on the fast side. "Sorry we can't give you Fentanyl, but your blood pressure is a little on the low side." "We're about five minutes out!" the firefighter driving called back to them, and Kelle glanced at Steven. "Got your line set up," she declared, hanging the plastic bag of IV saline solution on the wall, "I'll call in the update." Before sitting back in the jump seat, she grabbed the mic for the med-net radio. Steven Hudson Stephanie Taylor

“Pink and purple, you know my favourite colours so well... and she says she’s not my wife.” Steven teased smirking, “Next you’ll be picking out your dress and having me run around after you.” Honestly women he thought, what did he not behave himself to a reasonable standard? He was always on best behaviour okay so not all the time but most of it he had a few things covered. The ladder down was interesting as he was happy when everyone was on the floor.
“On it.” Steven said as he reached for her ankle to read her dog tags. He made sure to read them twice as he noted down her medical information quickly before reading it out to Kelle too just to make sure they were all on the same page about things. It was strange both of them being in the back but then desperate times and two sets of hands were always better than the one set any day.
Steven nodded at the five minutes warning, well almost at the finishing line he thought as she nodded to Kelle. “Good job partner.” He said with a grin, “Tell them we have the woman and the tree as incoming. Might need a chain saw for this one.” He teased deciding it was better to that than worry everyone too much.

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Steven had Stephanie distracted enough she had somehow missed the fact that Kelle had gotten an IV in her arm. The woman was terrified of needles. So she sent Kelle a glare for the comment about talking about the needle. "I've had worse" and she wasn't really lying about that. Well that was debatable, bullet wounds weren't sticks but the shoulder had hurt a lot worse. This was more of a throbbing pressure, the bullet had been like a burning pain. She had promised to keep her lips zipped about who the ring had come from, but her thoughts were amusing. 'Says the one who gave me the ring' Though she just kind of stared at Steven for his pink and purple tutu comment. "Ben might have something to say about that, just saying." she pointed out with a small smirk. She chose to ignore the comment about a chain saw.

"You know how much we like playing with needles, right?" Kelle grinned, grabbing the handset and keying up the mic to give her report.
Chicago Base, Medic 58 en route code three with a twenty-eight year old female victim of a building collapse at a fire scene. She's got a chunk of wood impaled in her chest, had a pneumo that we reduced with improvement. Vitals of a BP 82/40, pulse 130, sinus tach on the monitor, respirations 28 with a pulse ox of...94 percent on room air. Lung sounds are clear and diminished bilaterally. We've got her in spinal precautions, on high-flow oxygen, dual large-bore IV's running wide open...ETA is... she glanced out the front window, three minutes.
Once done, she glanced at Stephanie with a grin. "Can always join a cult, then we can all live together in 'Kum ba yah' harmony." She laughed. "Steven here can be the campfire leader!"

Steven rolled his eyes, “Yeah yeah, he’s like ninety years old and not exactly in the best of shape.” He teased shrugging toward Kelle. “Honestly I dont get the fascination with fire-fighters... they smell of smoke all the time, they dont clean up after themselves and I suppose if you like the dragged through a burning building backwards look...” He rambled deciding he would at least annoy her about Ben, because well he could that and the fact that he had already given her a ring to get past the ER nurses.
He listened to Kelle give her report or rather what was left of the report that he could hear. Three minutes sounded good enough to get Stephanie into the hospital where they could dig out the tree. Oh he had so many gardening jokes to go along with that though he knew now was hardly the most appropriate time to start deciding he was going to be a stand up comic one day. However at the mention of campfire leader, there really was no stopping him.
“Ooh I’d love to be campfire Kum Ba Yah leader, we’d sing songs, tell ghost stories, eat toasted marshmallows, hot chocolate...” He said a little to excited at the prospect of that as he grinned. “So when do we all go? Firehouse fifty one outing into the woods?” He offered suddenly wanting to start that idea around the house to see what everyone thought.

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Why did Kelle seriously keep on insisting about reminding her there was needles in her arm? It made her want to get up and toss a medic out the backdoor. There was just a piercing glare of disdain sent the woman’s way. She was about to comment when she heard Steven talking about campfires and marshmellows. Somewhere in there had some something about firefighters and smoke, but none of it was making sense as she started breathing heavily before passing out in the back of the ambulance. Though she had wanted to make a comeback about firefighters and smelling like smoke. The blood loss from where she had been stabbed had been quite a bit despite the fact it was wrapped. She was lucky in that it missed vital organs on its way through her broken two ribs. Breathing had been hurting for a while but her breathing evened out in her unconscious state. She was pushing herself too hard. Though she could vaguely make out mumbling trying to piece it all together.

When Stephanie passed out, Kelle glanced at Steven, seeing her concern reflected in his eyes. Despite what they were doing, she was deteriorating, but it was no mystery that she needed to be in surgery, not in the back of an ambulance, or even the ED, but there wasn't much they could do but hurry, and they were already doing that. "Here..." She handed him a fresh IV bag to switch out with the one that was about empty, then she grabbed her stethoscope to listen to Stephanie's lungs. "Still clear," she told her partner, at least that was one thing they didn't have to worry about. Then the driver announced their arrival... "We're here! Bump!" The unit slowed, but there was still a bit of rocking as they went over the driveway, and as they pulled into the bay, she could see the trauma team waiting for them. It was not uncommon for the ED doc and a nurse to be waiting outside for critical patients, but this was 'special'...Firefighters, cops, EMS, they were part if the 'family', and that meant extra attention. A passed out patient was never a good sign, yes if they talked the hind legs of a donkey then sure the break was nice but this time. It was hardly a good sign, things were moving quickly and the options were becoming slimmer by the minute. The only good sign was her breathing had evened out from the state it had been but that was all the good in the entire situation. "Thanks." Steven took the fresh IV bag to switch it out with the empty one. He did that while he watched Kelle listened to Stephanie’s lungs. Two words which made him feel slightly relieved as he smiled and nodded. “Sometimes if feels like the longest ride to get here.” He said glad that they were not having to open Stephanie up in the back of the ambulance. The rocking he was used to as it was the tell tale signs that they had arrived to their desired destination. Steven caught sight of the team waiting for them, it was nice to see them there as he wanted to get Stephanie the help she needed straight away.
Sofia had been on call as the ER had expected casualties from the fire. The TV screens showed the flames and billowing smoke before the call came through. They had taken a few patients so far until she had heard the call over the radio for the twenty eight year old female victim. Sofia had started a chart with the information she had before she threw on the medical gown and gloved up. So far it had been a steady flow of patients through the ER and now Sofia was stood outside awaiting an ambulance with one of their own in it.
Any first responder in the city had the first class treatment; it was the unwritten rule of the ER and one she took extremely seriously. Sofia waited as she watched the ambulance park up as she pulled open one of the doors at the back of it. “Talk to me, any changes?” She asked getting ready to give them a hand and see if there was any update to the information they had. Sometimes the patient improved or other times there was field surgery needed to stabilise a patient. It all was just a guessing game between radio calls and arrival a lot could change with any patient.
((Sofia is in))

Stephanie Harris when fire meets gasoline Stephanie could hear things but responding to them was impossible. She had lost a lot of blood already, that is something that happens when you have a piece of wood sticking out of your side. She had broken ribs and was lucky she hadn't clipped anything too major. Though she was still considered critical by definition of the word. Her skin was clammy still and her once even breathing was picking up as she went into hypovolemic shock and her blood pressure started dropping like a rock.

“Sometimes if feels like the longest ride to get here.”"Yeah, no kidding." It was funny, how sometimes two minutes could seem like a life-time, like when you were waiting for back-up to help you with a critical patient that kept your hands full, or it could go by in a flash, like when you were trying to get venous access during a short transport. As they pulled into the ambulance bay, she switched the oxygen tubing to the portable tank at the head of the gurney, then hung the cardiac monitor on its hook as Steven put up the IV pole and hung the bags of saline. The back door swung open and the doctor glanced in... “Talk to me, any changes?”"Twenty-eight year old female," Kelle reported, "building collapse, chunk of wood in her side..." She repeated what they already knew as she and Steven unloaded the gurney then started in the back doors of the ED. "She passed out a couple minutes ago, last vitals fifty-six over thirty-two, pulse one-thirty, respirations twenty-six, lungs are still clear..she's had fifteen-hundred cc's fluid so far..." The treatment room was already buzzing with activity, trauma nurses, x-ray, lab, respiratory, all ready to get in and do their thing once they moved Stephanie from the ambulance gurney to the hospital bed. Steven smirked as he thought about the trip, no matter how many times that same route was driven it seemed to take seconds or days. Never a happy medium but then since when did they ever get patients that were a happy case of mostly okay when it came to a hospital run. Steven stayed silent when Kelle relayed all the relevant information for the doctor and nurse. Steven busied himself with putting up the IV pole and saline bags as he tried to keep his mind of Stephanie’s dropping blood pressure.
He could hear a voice when the back door swung open though he was glad to hear Kelle answer the question for the doctor. He helped Kelle unload the gurney and walked through the back doors of the ED. When was that place ever quiet he wondered hearing the buzz of activity, he reached out to hold Stephanie’s hand for a moment. She might not know or even feel it but if she could he simply wanted her to know there were people who cared there with her. Steven waited to hear the word from a nurse or doctor to move Stephanie as he stood next to the gurney. Sometimes thing just never went as quick as he thought they needed to be, especially when it was someone you knew.
Sofia listened intently to what Kelle was saying as she examined the chunk of wood as they moved into the ED. Chunk described it well she thought trying to see if any major arteries might have been nicked or if the wood was preventing the fire fighter from bleeding out. Contrary to reaction and popular belief, if impaled by anything leave it where it is. Much much safer that way. “We need blood, lots of it to get her pressure up.” She called looking around for a moment. “Need some help in here, any nurse free?” She called.
Nurses were the life blood of the hospital, the people that went unseen but if they were gone then the hospital would fall to pieces. “We have a name for this patient?” Sofia asked as she got to work checking for any other injuries other than the obvious piece of wood sticking out of her. No pointing in fixing one thing to miss another.

"Her name is Stephanie," Kelle told the doctor, "Stephanie Harris." She took a step back, letting Steven stay close to the firefighter. "I can help," Isla declared as she come into the treatment room, giving her brother a grin and a nod, then turning her attention to the doctor. Sure, she was 'just' a student, but she was nearly done with the program, and right now, with the influx of casualties from the fire, nurses were at a premium. Even so, she was still pretty new to this, and while she liked the chaotic pace of the ED, it could still be a little overwhelming. She'd just have to stay focused and do what she was told. Quickly looking the patient over, she could see that she was on oxygen and the IVs in her arms were patent. As she was doing that, she started to connect the cardiac and blood pressure monitors as well as pulse oximetery. Stephanie Taylor, Steven Hudson

Steven stayed close to Stephanie, he knew what she was like with hospitals and nothing good came of an agitated patient no matter who it was. Then Steven heard that voice, for a moment he had forgotten where he was as he was about to raise the roof as to why his sister was in the hospital and he knew nothing about it. Nurse, she was a nurse he thought as he wanted to smack his own head for that. Steven grinned at Isla, “Ah Nurse Hudson, nice to see you.” He said deciding calling her that would never get old.
Steven turned to Kelle and smirked as he watched Isla work, “Kelle this is my rock star sister Isla the nurse and Isla this is my rock star partner Kelle the paramedic that puts up with me.” Well in all fairness his sister and his partner did put up with him so he happy. Still right now there was Stephanie to deal with as he held her hand. “She’s fire house family.” Steven said looking between Isla and the doctor so they would understand exactly why he was still hanging around with Kelle.
Sofia watched Isla work and nodded to her, “So the patient is Stephanie Harris, what do we do next Isla?” Sofia asked her trying to help her with her training, the ER was far from perfect but people had to learn and now was a good a time as any. Fire house family or not Isla had a patient and student nurse or thirty years on the job nurse the ER was too busy to split hairs over who was taking which patient, there were plenty of them to chose from. Besides the sister of a paramedic, was there going to be a better nurse to have around?
In her head no, Sofia watched the monitors once they started to show the information and waited for Isla to answer. The tree branch could be removed in the ER but it would be a quick hand off to surgery just to make sure everything was alright so it would be the last thing to patch up.
