Wallace could hear Chloe’s voice over the radio as he rolled his eyes blasting his horn at a car that decided to cut out in front of him. Didnt people know how to drive these days? Lights and sirens meant shift out of the damn way or else. He knew he shouldn’t but he drove within inches of the cars bumper as finally the car pulled away to leave him a clear path. “Sixty seconds.” He announced over the radio though it felt like it was going to be the longest few seconds of his life that shift so far.
Finally he managed to park up to see a nightmare sight, an ambulance the house ambulance in a state and the fire trucks and the other ambulances there. “Tie it down, dont want it shifting with our people inside.” He said knowing that if it hit the water then it was more likely to be a recovery operation than a life saving one. It was like hearing a hundred voices through the air and radio while trying to work out the best thing to do for his people. “Listen up!” He bellowed, “Get that ambulance tied down any way you can, tie it to the trucks if you have to but that ambulance isn’t shifting another inch.”
Wallace motioned to the fire fighters there to get to it as he stood back to take a look at the scene. “I want extinguishers on that ambulance in case of fire, I want a hose on it too.” He stated as he looked toward the floor for a moment, no he needed to be the tough one right now no matter what it took. If he fell apart on his people then what good was he? “Paramedics, pull back and let truck work for five minutes then get in there and get our people out.” Wallace knew better than the state dead or alive but he was praying for alive as he tried to find something more to do than to just stand there and watch his people work.
“Fifty eight, Boden here. Update now.” He asked wanting to see if Cat or Shani could answer him, talking was good because it meant they were alive and anything after that was just after that. “Fifty Eight, Cat, Shani, update.” He repeated not giving an option to answer until then, all he wanted was to know how bad things were in their heads. He knew how scary it could be to be on the other end of a rescue and talking on a radio was better than simply sitting it out and watching everyone else try to save their friends.

Hearing the other voice was a good sign. "Shani!" she called back. She was she was stuck but she twisting in such a way as she saw the blood. "I'm good. You are bleeding." She deduced. "Lean this way. We gotta stop the bleeding until the Fire Dpt can get us out." She told her. There was no choice as Catherine was barely able to reach. Her sides hurt but it was worth the pain to keep her partner alert. "Ambulance 58 to Batt 25. We have one head injury and at least one trapped. My side hurts but injuries unknown" She noted before hanging up on the radio. "Shani look at me. Try not to move. We are dangerously close to the edge of the bridge. Are you stuck?" She was asking so many questions but Catherine didn't know what else to do besides go into paramedic mode right now. She was nervous and when she was nervous she just didn't stop getting curious. All the screaming outside was making her head spin. Catherine felt nauseous, she wasn't sure if it was because of how she was trapped or because of the nerves or the something. 'Focus, Come on Catherine.' "Shani I need you to calm down okay, I'm right here. I'm safe and you are okay" she tried to calm her partner down and reassure her as best she could. [attr="class","tomhov"] TAGShani McGuire @catherine @hcassell9978 @salome Wallace Boden @liz Benjamin Taylor @peanut NOTESI have Matt there to give directions to Truck but there will be no full posts from him. Stephanie Interim Lt. Squad Matt Casey Stephanie had so many people talking to her all at once or being glued to her. Why were they all looking to her for help? It didn't make sense. She wasn't even a lieutenant, she was just... asking questions. Right probably the whole military command of a crowd she could accidentally gather at times. There was Ben. "Steph, everything alright?" She felt the hand on her shoulder. "As good as I can be when it's one of ours. I've got it" she told him. At least she was being honest. There was no time to sit here and not focus.
Stephanie had no idea who was going to call CPD to the scene but they were going to need someone to find that drive. Then she heard the interim Lieutenant of Squad. "Get 24 out of here. They are off duty" he nailed Stephanie with a look as she was trying to fill Peter in. "She's still inside. Peter they are doing everything they can to get her out. I don't want to have to say this to my own brother but you are gonna need to step back" She blocked his way. Peter as in no frame of mind to go after that.
Matt pointed to Salome "Get an extinguisher on that ambulance and you standby LeShane" that's all truck could do was sit and wait and hopefully something didn't erupt into flames. The interim lieutenant of squad came over and moved Stephanie and Ben off. "You heard the chief Harris, Taylor go!" he demanded.
Stephanie didn't want to leave Peter knowing his state of mind but she knew that if she could help Catherine and Shani, she could ease that some. "Taylor!" she screamed as she tossed him a tie down. Stephanie moved quickly. She looked for somewhere to tie off. They were going to have to tied off the trucks. "Think we can get 58 on it's wheels if we back the trucks up?" She looked towards Matt.
"Cruz, Otis" He pointed at the truck giving a nod to Steph. Stephanie secured the tie down to ambulance and used what little weight she had to brace it making sure to keep the pressure even with anyone else tying them down. That is when she saw the leak. "GAS" she called. Oh Truck better be ready. She tried to focus on what was going on. "Salome, Mouch, Hermann, you better move!" he called.

Upon being ordered to back away Chloe uses that time to take a mental and a physical step back from the whole situation to clear her head, and regroup. Being first on scene to a major situation is never something she enjoys, but when it involves your own people it’s a living nightmare.
Taking a couple of deep breaths Chloe scans the crowd looking for the familiar face of her partner, deciding that now would be the perfect time to make sure they had everything ready to go when the other medics were freed from the wrecked ambulance. Not wanting to tie up the radio with unnecessary radio traffic she yells “Shay!!....Lizzy!” Still unable to pick her out from the sea of faces she says to the firefighter standing next to her “If you happen to see my partner please let her know that I’m getting the ambo ready for the patient.”
Chloe heads back to the truck and starts setting up her equipment for a couple of IV’s and sets out bandages and anything else that she thinks she might need. She double checks that everything is there and where it needs to be so that there will be no time wasted. “Ambo 74 to command, be advised this unit is set up and ready for rapid transport of the first patient following their extrication.”

Still and stop moving, no moving meant she was alive she thought hearing the unfamiliar voice. It had to be a paramedic because she would be a millionaire if she had a dollar for every time she had said that exact same thing to someone. “What water...” Shani asked having last remembered being firmly on the road, where was the water she wondered unless she had really hurt her head that badly she had entirely lost what people were saying. Shani wanted to shove her head into a bucket of ice water because there was so much noise, could they not appreciate that quiet was the way to go.
The minute Shani heard Cat say her name she felt a little more at ease, she was talking which was good. “Bleeding?” She said as she raised a hand to her head and saw exactly that though the moment she moved her hand it was as if she had ten fingers on that hand and not the five she knew of. Shani looked in Catherine’s direction; if Catherine was saying they were at the edge of a bridge she could trust that. “Yes my belt and I think the steering columns pinning my... it’s pinning my...” What was the word again? She looked down as she saw her seat belt and the steering wheel out of place to where it should have been. “Legs...” She said as if she had just realised was the right word was.
No enough about her she needed Cat to be okay, “I’m calm.... very calm.... what hurts, you said your... urm.” She felt like she had the world’s worst headache as she tried to wipe the blood out of her eyes so she could see clearly. It worked somewhat however she realised that was the least of her worries when she could barely focus without the world spinning. “What hurts?” She asked trying to see if she could help from inside the ambulance. Paramedic she was and that would never change no matter where they were or where the road was supposed to be.
Shani reached for her radio, her finger slipping off the button as she tried to hold it down. “Chief... Cat needs to get out of here. She’s hurt, please Chief.” She said as she let her hand fall from her radio, if anything happened then she at least wanted to know that Cat was safe and she would cause a serious problem if that never happened. “Cat, it will be okay. You’ll be okay, I’ll make sure of it.” She with a firm tone, “Tell me about what’s happening with you and... you and... Peter?” She asked deciding a distraction was best and it could distract her too.

There were voice from everywhere as Ben struggled to keep out the noise that had nothing to do with what they were trying to do. He focused on Stephanie as he nodded, “I know you’ve got it.” He said trying to smile though he understood. When it was their own that were hurt everything took on a whole new meaning. The usual, ‘everything will be alright’ and ‘try not to worry, we’ll get you out’ seemed so false when everyone was quite aware of what they needed to do and what was happening to them. Likely better than most people in a similar situation would ever do.
Ben winced hearing Steph tell Peter to take a step back, he felt for the guy as if it was Stephanie in there, it would hardly be a step back more like a barrel forward though when the tables were turned it was always a little more difficult. “She’ll be okay.” Ben stated looking toward Peter trying to be as positive as he possibly could be. He was the optimistic kind and given that Peter had already been in as bad a shape as he had seen a guy, well Catherine had a lot to fight for and if fifty one had anything to do with it then he was sure they would get them out.
Ben glanced toward her hearing his name screamed. “Got it Harris.” He yelled back as he picked up the tie down and moved quickly. It was like being back at academy again though this was far from the set up accidents, the tests and the get it wrong once and you could do it again. It had to be right and it needed to be right first time. Ben was making sure his tie down was secure when he heard the call about gas from Stephanie. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” He said as he glanced over to Steph.
“Tie down’s on, you okay?” He called wanting to make sure the gas was far away from her and she was alright. Why did it have to be them he wondered as he worked to make sure that everything else was secure before he stepped back to let the Truck’s take the slack. He hoped that they could turn the ambulance the right way up and get it away from the edge of the bridge. The last thing he wanted was to have to go and take as swim because he knew how that was likely to end.

Catherine tried to steady her partner, as she unclipped her seatbelt. It was probably not the smartest move but she needed to get Shani's head wrapped and she needed what little movement she had. Though she had to be careful not to rock them towards the water. Catherine hated the water. 'Don't look down don't look down' she told herself. She gulped as she bandaged up Shani's head. Catherine wanted to distract her but she didn't thinking bringing up Jason and the kids was the best of ideas. Speaking of she was surprised that he hadn't made his way through the swarm of PD and Firefighters everywhere. "Do you remember that call where we had to go past all the fish in the aquarium? As the shark was swimming over your head?" Okay so it had been an enclosed glass tunnnel where someone had passed out. They'd gotten a call and they had fish watching them. "All the fish eyes everywhere watching us do our job?" Catherine had been completely creeped out by it but it had been kind of funny now that she thought back on it. Right anything but the steering column. "Hey hey. Don't worry about me. There is nothing anyone can do about a few cracked ribs, right now I want you to focus on staying awake. Talk to me Shani alright. Just best friends having a conversation" she reminded her. Not two paramedics stuck on a bridge, dangling over the water in the middle of a Chicago winter. "Boden's crew is here alright. Let them do their jobs." She ascertained. "Sweetie they gotta get you out first. They cant turn this things on its wheel's with you pinned” Catherine felt the ambulance shift. "NO NO NO Stop!! We are pinned you gotta keep the vehicle on the side" She felt the trucks stop just in time. They were still holding the line though so the ambulance at least couldn't slide into the frigid winter. "I wish he would just come out and say what he's trying to say.. but we're good" Catherine didn't want to think about Peter, he was probably gonna freak if he got wind. Well if fifty one was here, she knew how fast word could spread through that place.

The gas leak changed things. They had not as much time as they thought they did. Oh some days she really hated her job. "Taylor. Cruz get that door off." He was headed them where they needed to go. "Truck you got this? I gotta send my people in there." He growled at Matt. Oh that was not going to over well. "OUR people" there as a sharp correction. Great the Lieutenants were going to have it out after this call. Steph sighed. Technically this interim Lieutenant guy was a night mare and squad was technically more of Matt's people than the other but this wasn't the time for that.
"Harris when they get the driver out. We are going to need you to crawl in there and get Davidson out from under the dash." Cruz called as he could see how pinned in that Catherine was. Though right now he looked to Ben as his focus was getting Shani out as the back caught on fire. Though Matt didn't have to call orders Mouch and the others were already on it like white on rice.
Ben was doing that thing again where he was worrying while she was trying to do her job. "Gopher" she warned. It was the same warning tone she always used when he needed to lay off and just let her work. They had to get these out. Stephanie started getting ready to move in once Ben and Cruz had Shani out of there. She grabbed Chloe by the arm. "You and I are the only ones small enough to fit in there once they get her out" she pointed out. Great she was trusting Barbie. Well this day just got better didn't it?
Right, focus on her job and not so much about Ben's state of mind. There was time to argue with him later. Now was not the time nor the place to get sidetracked. They had a job to do and she was going to do it.

When Stephanie grabs her arm pointing out that they are the only ones small enough to fit in the truck, Chloe nods at her. “Ok…yeah…no problem…I’ll run and put my gear on real quick.”
‘No problem…no problem’ she thinks to herself as she runs back to the ambo… ‘maybe it would be no problem if they weren’t hanging halfway off of a bridge above icy water in an ambulance…with a gas leak…and fire, there was fire too….and tanks full of oxygen.’
Finding her protective gear in the back compartment of the ambulance she slides it on and takes a few deep breaths before heading back to stand next to Stephanie ready to move in when they need her. Chloe might be scared to death but she surely isn’t going to show Stephanie how scared she really is, not when Chloe has an inkling that the other woman already isn’t thrilled to be stuck with her.
Watching the firemen with fire extinguishers putting out the fire at the back of the truck, knowing that there is a gas leak and tanks full of oxygen in the back of the truck really isn’t helping to calm her fears any. She reminds herself that it's just an ambulance and she works in one all the time, and that she is trained for this…she takes a few more deep breaths focusing on her job and what she needs to do, knowing that just as she’s going to do her job the others will do theirs.
She fidgets with the hem of the turnout jacket a bit while watching everything going on around her. She realizes that she trusts these people, and that she really does work with the best trained group of people in Chicago. She continues watching them all work together like a well-oiled machine which makes her feel a lot better about having to climb into the ambulance to help free the second medic.

"She's still inside. Peter they are doing everything they can to get her out. I don't want to have to say this to my own brother but you are gonna need to step back"
Of all days when he had been sent home early due to a computer error messing up his schedule, something happens and he wished he had just stayed at work. As Stephanie moved forward to start working Peter took a small step back, but he was not going to move any further. The ambulance was on the edge of the bridge, if not hanging over, Peter watched as everyone quickly did what they could to secure the ambulance as to keep it from going any further, a water rescue was never fun, especially on a winter day. Then there was call about the gas, Peter started forward to try and help but was roughly pulled back, "Sir you heard Harris, she wants you to step back." Peter jerked his arm away from the grabber and turned to face him.
The Chicago Police Officer seemed to be doing his best to keep a serious face, "I am going to help." he replied, the cop moved to step in his way, "You are not cleared to be on the scene!" he retorted. This was not the time nor the place to explain to an observing officer that he was very much so qualified to be present. "Are you having trouble seeing what I am wearing?! I am in the same uniform as half the people running around here, so how am I not "cleared" to be here. How about you step back and let us work!" He wanted to get a hold of a radio, if anything he could talk to Cat, hopefully calm her down if she needed it. But he did not get the chance. As he started walking again the office grabbed him by the arm, twisted it hard behind his back and proceeded to slam Peter against the side of a nearby car, thinking impulsively (as Peter Harris is known sometimes to do) Peter took his free arm and drove it back into the officers stomach.
"Sir, fighting me won't work, I asked you to step back."
"And I said no!"
The scuffle was soon ended, Peter ended up sitting on the ground with a pair of handcuffs on his wrists and his new cop buddy starting to write some notes on a pad of paper, "What is it you do again?" the officer asked, totally ignoring the fact that there was an ambulance hanging off the side of a bridge, Peter shot the man a glare, "I am a paramedic for Ambulance 24...who was simply wanting to go and try to comfort his girlfriend who happens to be stuck inside that particular large vehicle that is hanging off the side of the damn bridge!" He looked around for Stephanie, but he also knew she and Ben were busy, and the last thing they needed was to be distracted, "Well...you know it is against the law to assault an officer." Peter looked back to the man, his bottom was quickly going numb from the cold ground, "And you know it is kind of stupid to try and remove a paramedic from an accident scene.." he replied.

Post by Wallace Boden on Feb 16, 2017 18:50:00 GMT
Wallace listened to Cat over the radio, two medics hurt and one head injury could this day get any better he wondered to himself as he watched over the scene. He didnt reply as he knew they would be having a tough enough time in the ambulance without him adding to things that he couldnt see. Wallace was coming around to the fact that it was manageable, pull the rig back keep it secure get their people out and the world would be right once again as Matt and the new Interim Lieutenant seemed to have things going well.
He missed the days of getting involved and not just playing the manager of it all, when he was the one holding the fire extinguisher, going into the building and not observing and stepping in when needed. It was then he heard the call about gas, yes it could always get worse he thought as he heard Shani over the radio. “You’ve got the head injury McGuire, Davidson we’ll get you out two. We wont get one and not that other.” He stated firmly over the radio to both of them, this wasn’t the time to go all ‘her first’ on him.
Wallace was listening and watching as he heard the correction Matt gave, right on he thought. “Our people, get this job done yesterday!” He barked at them, there wasn’t time for standing around asking who was right but any fire truck or ambulance was their people. They were a family of thousands in the city and that didnt change, this family was house family and that meant he wasn’t going to take any chances or have people taking their eye of the ball on this one as he gave a warning look to both Lieutenants. If they had a problem they could hash it out later in his office but for now they needed to work together.
He was watching the team working until he heard the cop say something about being cleared for the scene, what the hell was it this time he thought as he looked back to see Peter. Just what he needed, the boyfriend on the scene as Wallace tried to keep his attention on his people rather than Peter and the cop but that soon fisnished. “Casey, Lieutenant, you’ve got this. Get on with it.” He snapped as he headed over to the cop in time to see Peter cuffed on the ground. Oh hell no, this wasn’t happening and he was ready to get into with the CPD if he needed to.
“Hey, you get those cuffs off that medic right now!” Wallace barked glaring at the cop who had done it. Wallace hoped that the cop wasn’t the ‘go by the rule book shoved up my behind’ sort as he knew Peter was as good as jailed if it was but then surely there was sense to be had. “We’ve a situation, I need my medics free and just hand him over and he’ll stay right beside me.” Wallace offered, there was no way he was letting Peter back near the scene but stood by him how much trouble could there honestly be. He didnt have time to bargain with a cop over this but he didnt want to lose Peter to the CPD either.

Shani tried to protest Cat unclipping the seatbelt but it was done before she could argue the point of staying put. Shani tried to keep focused as Cat wrapped her head though all she wanted was to get out of there and go home, home where she knew everything was safe. To think her husband knew about this, it was better that he had kept away she thought but there was no one else she would have rather had there than Cat. Shani felt worse as time passed, looking at the water made her feel queasy and yet all she could do was think about swimming for some bizarre reason. Shani chuckled remember the call with the fish in the aquarium. “That was so much fun, I remember that call. It was good one.” She said trying to smile though all she felt like she wanted to do was curl up and cry. It was unlike her, Shani spent her time being alright for everyone else she hardly had time to cry. Two kids and a husband, a full time job no she powered on through but this, this scared her. “Oh the eyes, didnt that creep you out?” Shani asked making sure she was on the right call, “Because there was all that glass to keep the sharks from us, or we could go see the Shark Tale movies. Sharks are less creepy after that.” Children’s movies were her thing, she knew about them through first hand cinema experience. Even the awful ones where she had to grit her teeth and pretend like watching was fun and not the torture her mind was experiencing. Shani heard Wallace over the radio as she grabbed at hers again. “All due respect Chief, you get me and not her I’ll make sure to kick your ass so you can’t sit down again.” She snapped, if that would get the message across then so be it she could always blame being out of her mind. “Your ribs...” She said trying to focus on Catherine, cracked ribs there was no magic bandage for. They could be wrapped but beyond that there was little to do. “You are... best friend.” She stated as she closed her eyes for a moment until she heard about Boden’s crew. “I need to... you are my job... you’re hurt.” She stated as if it was the first time she had said it. Shani tried to figure out the logic behind what Cat was telling her though as she felt the ambulance shift all she could do was stare at the water and imagine that Chicago, Chicago was going to be it for her. “No you need to go Cat... please you need to.” She said though when Shani heard about Peter she shook her head. “He’s a guy... they never say a thing... as long as you’re happy.” It was all that really mattered, if Cat was happy then what more could be done. “Unless you want me to kick his...” She tried to think of the right word again as she wanted to day Boden but it made no sense. “Ass for you, he would say a lot then.” She offered smiling though she was surprised he seemed to be absent from what was going on. After all the grape vine was remarkably fast with news like an ambulance on it’s side. @catherine, Wallace Boden, Stephanie Taylor, @hcassell9978, @peanut,

Ben was busy with Cruz doing exactly what was asked as they started trying to get the door off, it ambulance was a mess but between them he knew they could do it. He could hear the my and our people argument about to start. Just what they needed two Lieutenants with too much testosterone trying to outdo the other one, it was their people who were trapped. Everyone had something in this not just the bosses though Ben just kept his mouth shut and let it be. He hardly wanted to get onto the bad side of the interim Lieutenant. Trying to see what was pinned where was like a jigsaw as they got the door off and could see Cat and Shani. Ben motioned to Cruz about the steering column, “You want to hold her and I’ll cut?” He asked seeing if they could cut through the steering column then they should be able to move her out to the ambulance. It was the worst call he had seen in a while, sure fifty one seemed to find trouble at every turn but when you were there to help it was different, this was just one of those times when he wished that cars had bumpers on them to stop others from hitting them. Stephanie’s warning tone was enough for him to realise he was doing his overly protective thing again. No let her be and do her job, even if them getting into the ambulance he wanted to argue with Cruz about. They were the smallest and could fit but that was hardly his issue, Stephanie in a busted up ambulance dangling over a bridge where there was water underneath. Not exactly his idea of a safe work environment though he kept his mouth shut on it. Taking a look back at the scene behind them Ben saw Peter and the cop getting into it, he knew once he was finished with Shani he would head over to the ambulance and then go and get Peter. He knew what it was like to be kept out of something when it was the people you loved involved, right or wrong it was never a great feeling though he knew Stephanie would hate his idea but then if Peter could keep Cat calm then it was worth the risk. Ben started to cut the column as he hoped Cruz had Shani, he could hear the plastic cutting easily followed by the steel and wiring which given their tools hardly put up much of a fight as he held the column in place. “Cruz, ready to get her out of there?” He asked knowing that if he let go then Shani would likely fall and hit Cat and then it was just going to be a really bad day. Peter did not have a radio, so he did not hear any of the usual radio chatter from his coworkers about what was going on, so he just watched everything as it happened. Minutes slowly moved by and he still sat on the ground as his new buddy starting writing some things down, usually he would be annoyed at his coworkers for not coming to his aid but this time he was glad they were so focused on the task at hand. Just get Cat and Shani out and it will be okay, he told himself, Peter nodded and shifted where he sat on the ground.
“Hey, you get those cuffs off that medic right now!”
He turned his head at the sound of a very familiar voice, one that you did not easily ignore. Boden was making his way towards Peter and the cop, Peter held back a smirk, the cop would be stupid to try and talk crap to someone like the fire chief. “We’ve a situation, I need my medics free and just hand him over and he’ll stay right beside me.” The officer looked up from his note pad, "Sorry-" he paused as he noticed Bodens rank, "Sir..but he is under arrest." Peter slowly pushed himself to his feet and came to a rest against the car that he had earlier been slammed against, "Sir, it was just a misunderstanding, I was just trying to see if ya'll needed help and he overhead Stephanie telling me to stay back."
"You, need to be quiet." the officer reached out and tried to push Peter back down to the ground but Peter moved out of his reach, "He is being detained for assaulting an officer and resisting arrest." Peter scoffed and shook his head, "When did I "assault" you and how am I resisting arrest, the freaking Fire Chief asked you to let me go and you are ignoring him!" he replied.

Stephanie could hear the arguing going on with her brother. The cops were screaming loud enough and Peter was arguing. Stephanie had a job to do though. Moving into the ambulance with a neck brace she moved through the hole the jaws had made. Securing the neck brace onto Shani she realized her leg was pinned. She was going to have to lift the dashboard. Stephanie just set to working focusing on her job. Trying to drown out everything else around her. "Nunn you ready?" It was all she could do to not worry about her brother and Ben. Focusing at the task on hand she got the hydraulic lift under the dash.
"Hang on Shani, we are going to get you out of here. This is gonna hurt a bit." Stephanie wasn't going to be able to help that. The ambulance shifted and Stephanie braced herself on the console. It was secure enough to hold her. The only place where she wouldn't hurt Catherine by stepping. Her focus was on getting Shani out. Catherine was going to be a bit more difficult.
