Hank couldnt help but to smile when she shook him by the shoulders, he knew she had grown up a lot since the first time he had met her but in his eyes she was still that same little girl that meant the world to him. The same familiar member, the same person he would do anything for in a heart beat even if it meant being a little too overprotective of her but then what father wouldnt. Letting her out all times of night had to be stopped she needed to learn and she had done despite his wife telling him in the beginning she thought he was crazy for it.
With a sigh he shook his head, “I was wrong to say what I did and you were right about it. You weren’t being childish or stupid you were right. You have your own life to live and I cant be that person I was for you years ago.” He said trying his best to admit to being over bearing without actually saying it. “If you did, do you think I would have listened?” He asked though he hoped they wouldnt fight like that again because in his head it just wasn’t worth it.
“I do but like you said, just not always the right way.” He offered, he knew he meant well but there were times when he had no idea what to do and his sledge hammer approach was the only thing he could do. Family had changed recently, losing a son, gaining a daughter and a wife and a step daughter if he could call Nicky that without a problem. He was still getting used to how not to do things or step on toes, if he was too involved he was the bad guy, not enough and then he was to blame if anything bad happened.
Hank smiled as he nodded glad that they were finally talking. It had been something so stupid and sure he didnt exactly want to welcome Jay to the family with open arms but then if he was who Erin wanted then he couldnt argue that. Simply be there just in case anything happened and hope she was happy. “Exactly at least I have one daughter that understands that.” He said grinning, “Thought Sharon had sense when she shot the fed but apparently... no I have to speak and be civil with a fed.” He said rolling his eyes, if Sharon caught him talking like that then he knew it would be bad but then at least Erin had better taste in people than to fall for a federal anything.

| J ust because Erin wasn't a kid anymore didn't mean that she was going to turn her back on Hank. Erin took a seat across from him at the table and started playing with her tea cup sipping on it. "Dad, I'm not going anywhere. I'll still be sitting at the same desk, in the same squad room I am everyday. And it doesn't mean I'm going to keep stuff from you" she sighed. Erin didn't usually keep things from Hank very long. Granted it was usually because they were about to blow up in her face before she could stop it, but that was a moot point.
Erin never blamed Hank for things that went sideways. He bent over backwards, something she knew. Glancing at him from where she sat she rubbed her eyes, she was exhausted. Now that things were settling down she was feeling the brunt of not sleeping. Erin could gather that perhaps so was he.
Maybe it wasn't always the best way of doing things, but he tried that was more than she could say for any other 'parental figure' who was alive. Bunny hardly gave her the time of day unless she wanted something. Reaching across the table and took Hank's hand in her one free one that wasn't holding her tea.
"It wouldn't be the first time you had to play civil with the feds" she teased him. True Erin had joined JTF at one point and had been a fed. Though Erin was clearly messing with him trying to make him feel a little better. Why not give him a hard time? She was allowed that. Occassionally, it was what they did at times.

Hank stayed silent trying to work out what to say or how he wasn’t going to put his foot in it this time. He knew he hadn’t been easy on her but then he hadn’t exactly wanted to hear that her and Jay and just the entire thing had thrown him. “No you’re allowed your privacy and I wasn’t right to take that from you. What I don’t need to know I dont need to know but I am always here no matter what.” He said knowing that he would rather know but then there were ways around it even if he was trying to be a better parent.
Sleep was the very thing he wanted but he couldnt get not knowing that Erin was so upset with him. Then there was the whole Jay meeting too and how that had gone to hell but his head was bothered about what Erin thought. He was tired and with her now talking to him he was trying to focus on not screwing that up as he had done time and time before.
Hank looked at her hand before he looked up to Erin. “Yeah but at least I knew you were cop at heart and came to your senses.” He said though the JTF had been a fantastic opportunity for her he just wished it had worked out as Erin would be the one fed he could stand. “Is it wrong to not like the guy? I mean he’s not even like Jay and yes he’s alright and knows his job. Sharon’s guy is just... a fed. What she sees in him I wont ever understand.” He said with a sigh as the worst part was he completely understood what Erin saw in Jay.
He was a great cop, good colleague and the kind of guy he would have wanted his daughter to have but when it happened he wasn’t so keen on it anymore. At least he could still annoy Thomas and have the hope that Sharon would at least come to her senses and get rid of the fed for someone better. Jay one, Thomas nil.

| E rin hugged Hank as she sat down in his lap. That wasn't the usual for her, but right now she had a feeling that he needed to feel like he still mattered. Though the moment she laid her head down she yawned. Every ounce of her giving in and she closed her eyes. She'd not fallen asleep on his shoulder in who knew how long. Probably too long.
Hank talking about Erin coming to her senses. "Mhmm whatever you say" she spoke through another yawn. Erin was not going to be able to hold her eyes open any longer. Though she chortled a bit when he mentioned Thomas being like Jay. "Dad hate to break it to you... there is only one Jay" she mumbled. "But I don't like the fed either" she agreed. Well Erin and Sharon didnt exactly always get along in the first place. So was it wrong to be on Hank's side when it came to not liking her sister's pick in boyfriends?
Though it wasn't long and Erin was fast asleep on Hank's shoulder sitting at the kitchen table. Hopefully things would stay... right side up. Erin was tired of things being upside down AND backwards. She had a husband and a dad who meant the world to her. Though she and Jay had decided to let Hank do the whole dad thing, even if they had eloped when she'd been upset at him.
