Brittany was cuddled up in Kelly's lap when there was a knock on the door. It was the middle of the day on his day off. They were watching some movie, one she wasn't paying much attention to in the first place. The knock sounded like law enforcement would. Though she knew Jay was working and he would have called first anyway. Hitting the pause button she got up out of Kelly's lap, a chore at 6 months.

Opening the door Brittany saw the agents. They were DEA... her heart instantly leapt in her chest. Her eyes darted wildly at her husband. This was a horrible dream right. Asking if they could come in Brittany just nodded. Brittany hadn't spoken to Paige since their huge argument so what could these agents want.

The agents looked towards Kelly as if apologizing for the words they were about to drop on his pregnant wife. "There is no easy way to say this Mrs. Severide but your sister passed away this morning in the line of duty." Brittany instantly saw the fight in her head with her sister.

"I hate you Paige you know that don't you" Brittany had been upset.

"You know what, just remember that next time when I make sure you get home and cover your ass"

"yes allowing people to hurt me is really covering my ass Paige. The company you keep isn't good for you"

"Don't tell me how to live my life Brittany"

"Just... get out of my house. You aren't welcomed here and you are no sister of mine."

The fight seemed stupid now. Brittany gripped the table until her knuckles became white. She didn't even try and stop the tears that came flowing. Those had been the last words to her sister. The other agents spoke towards Kelly. "We can't guarantee that Brittany is safe at this point in time. DEA has assigned us to take you to a some place safe. If you would like to remain here that is fine too, just understand that we are here until we are told otherwise. Her safety is our first priority right now". He was talking to Kelly because he could tell that Brittany checked out to most of what they were saying right now. Brittany finally let go of the table and reached for Kelly. First Kathleen, and now Paige.

Kelly hadn't really been paying much attention to the movie, just holding Brittany and relishing the feel of her in his arms when the knock caught his attention. That doesn't sound good, he mused, recognizing the authority behind the knock. Whatever was going on, it wasn't a social call. He got up and went with Brittany to the door, his eyes clouded as the saw the DEA agents. Okay definitely not good, he thought to himself.
"Can I help you?" he queried and his eyes clouded even more as the officers relayed their news. Instinctively, Kelly went to pull Brittany close. "I've got you, Babe," he murmured. G-d, can't believe this is happening, he thought to himself. She had already lost one sister. Why was she losing another one? "Do you guys know who did it? And is there a chance that they'll try to come after Britt?" he queried. Okay, maybe it was a bad question to ask, but he had to know how to protect her and part of that was knowing if he had to be on the look out for people trying to kill her again.

He then nodded as they said that they couldn't guarantee Brittany's safety, that they were assigned to take her to a safe house, but they could work with her staying at their house, adding that her safety was their first priority.
"Your call, Babe," he told her. No! Not her call! Get her to the safe house! he yelled at himself. No! He couldn't do that to her. This had to be her call. He couldn't go all caveman on her no matter how much he wanted to.

Brittany far from objected to being pulled into Kelly's arms. Though she just cried, not even trying to hold anything in. She was glad Kelly was right here as she started falling apart. Tears and guilt hit like a freight train. She buried in Kelly's arms and just cried. There was no holding it back as soon as his arms came around her. She listened to the guys talking but it was all as clear as mud so they say.

"At this point all we can tell you is that Brittany stands a really good chance of being targetted too. We really don't know anything that we can tell you at this point." he queried.

Brittany turned and lashed out at the guy. "You can't or you won't!!!" She was upset. "She was my sister!!!" Okay so upset was the understatement of the year. Brittany looked like she wanted to start a fight and that wasn't Brittany. Brittany was calm and level headed. Brittany didn't do upset. Not like this.

"Your call, Babe," at his words she lifted her head. "Whatever you think's best" she offered to let him make that decision. Trembling and shaking she was trying to get a grip on reality. Brittany drowned out the agents voices. She was too upset to think and make sense of anything. Brittany just didn't want Kelly to let go.

Kelly was silent as the agent said that they couldn't say for sure if Brittany was a target, though she stood a good chance of it, turning to her as she challenged their statement of not being able to tell them anything, reminding them that they were talking about her sister.
"Are you sure you can't tell us anything?" he asked. He couldn't blame her for being upset. Hell, if this had happened to Katie, he'd be moving Earth, Heaven, and Hell to find out how it had happened. So yeah, he was going to support Brittany no matter what.

When she told him to do what he thought best, he went to place a kiss on the top of her head.
"We'll go to the safe house," he decided. Have to keep her safe. There's nothing more important than that, he thought to himself.

The DEA agent shook his head. "Not while it's an open investigation" he affirmed. Brittany didn't like that answer and was fighting against Kelly to try and get at the agent. Oh she was furious and it started to show in her sky blue visage. She wanted at the agent. That much was clear.

"Is that all she is to you? an OPEN investigation?" she spit out bitterly. She gave up fighting as soon as she felt Kelly's lips on her forehead. She wasn't going to argue against him. Hearing her husband's words about the safe house she just nodded.

Brittany just hugged onto him as the agent mentioned giving them time to get somethings packed. Brittany put a hand on her stomach, the stress was causing the baby to kick. "Okay baby girl I give. I'm not gonna fight both of you" she tried to settle the kicking down. It was painful and it happened more when Brittany was worked up or letting things get to her.

Kelly glared at the guy who stated that they couldn't tell Brittany anything about her sister's death while it was an open investigation, going to kiss the top of her head reassuringly as she asked him if that was all Paige was to them. Seriously, I could phrase it more delicately and I'm as insensitive as they come, he thought to himself. Was this guy a rookie or was this his first homicide case or something? If so, he hoped like hell that he learned fast.

His brows than furrowed in concern when she winced and started talking to their daughter, saying that she'd stop and wouldn't fight both of them.
"Babe, do you need to sit down?" he asked softly, his voice laced with concern. Maybe he was being overprotective, but this was all new territory to him and he was pretty sure that this kind of stress wasn't good for her.

Brittany shook her head, "I'll rest when we get to the safe house" and she would, but she didn't want him to worry about her, so she would rest. She played with the side of his neck. "I promise" She added quietly. The DEA agents didn't gave them a bit to pack which Brittany did slowly. Her mind was just about everywhere but what was going on.

Soon the two were on their way to the safe house which was really a hotel with a small kitchenette. They were under some alias name of one of their cops. Brittany buried her head in the bed as she laid down. She didn't want to talk, and she'd hardly said a word as she cried herself to sleep.
