Ziva had honestly had it with being "careful" around the house. That was going... not so well since the move. She was back to her morning runs, but she was still exhausted after she came back from them. Today, she had a bit more energy than usual and so started beating the snot out of the punching bag while Josiah took his nap. It was the weekend, so she wasn't exactly alone in the house. Ziva if left to her own devices was stubborn enough to keep going. Somalia came to mind. There was no end to her stubbornness, there never had been.
She was still only punching at the bag with her good shoulder. The other shoulder had some healing still to do. Though she stretched her that side out in a mock punch to keep everything loose. Then leaning onto her foot she kicked at the bag once hard. But she was still expending more energy than she really should. Her physical therapy was the bane of her existence lately, so she sort of just made it up along as she went instead of doing what she was supposed to be doing.
It was nice that the four year old still took naps, because otherwise she knew the inevitable "Ima" would be heard halfway across the entire house. Though she still had the baby monitor set up in his room. She heard "Aba Aba Aba Aba" as he babbled away in Hebrew for Esau. Good maybe she could stretch a little longer.

Esau opened the door to his son's room. He could tell Josiah, curled up near the headboard of his bed and clutching his favorite stuffed animal, was frightened, as he repeated the same word over and over. Aba. Dad. He was at the age when monsters were real—and scary. Esau sat on the bed beside him, pulling his son into his chest. It didn't take long to calm him and Josiah pointed to the closet. Mifletzet. Monster. "Monsters do not come into this house," Esau assured him. "Do you remember I said they have fears too? They fear your Ima and Aba. We should be absolutely certain nothing snuck in though. Shall we look together?"Josiah gave a small, tentative nod. Esau made his way to the floor, looking under the bed, as his son cautiously followed him to the ground. "There is nothing here that I see." Esau looked to him for confirmation he saw nothing hiding there and upon receiving it, got up and moved to the closet. Opening the door, Esau looked around. "I do not see anything here either. Do you?" Satisfied with the results of the closet investigation, Josiah shook his head and pointed to another area of the room, and they checked there as well; a process father and son repeated throughout the bedroom, until he was satisfied nothing bad was lurking nearby. As Josiah crawled back into bed, Esau sat with his son until he nodded off to sleep once again. Then he silently crept out of the room—who knew military training would be so useful when it came to having a son?—and shut the door behind him. Esau moved through the house, intending to check in on his wife. He wasn't surprised by where he found her, nor by what he found her doing. As she alternated between stretching and beating the crap out of the punching bag they had set up, though they had done so on the opposite end of the house so as to not disturb Josiah. Esau fixed her with a stern look. She was certainly a strong one... and stubborn. Very stubborn. "Ziva. The doctor said you were supposed to take it easy around the house, yes?" This hardly struck him as easy, but when did Ziva ever do what she was supposed to? Ziva Sokolov

" What am I supposed to do with him? " " Cuff yourself to him " " I'd rather you shoot me first." " That can be arranged, if you would like " | [attr="class","walkpost"] [attr="class","linescr"] "Ziva. The doctor said you were supposed to take it easy around the house, yes?" She had not missed the stern look that Esau had fixated on her. Right now she did not feel like being subjected to mother hen or the parental advice given by her spouse. Though Ziva could be obstinate at times and now was no different.
"Ken Ahavat"1 "But you do not see me running." She pointed out firmly. Very much in her Ziva like way she tried to change the conversation at hand. "Mifletzet, od pa"am?"2 Moving her sore arm above her head. Though she was slow with it. Ziva was very good at hiding any amount of pain she was feeling so reading her facial expressions or her body language was hardly an option.
Josiah had been a much welcome surprise into their life. This had come after the news that she could not have children. Deep down Ziva wanted Josiah to experience having a brother or sister but they had no luck. Ziva was very set in her ways for the time being and didn't want to do any of these strange fertility things. It was awkward. What was meant to be was meant to be, whether she was happy with the outcome was an entirely different story. As she lowered her arm down to her side she then slowly moved her neck from side to side.
Taking a step towards him she put a hand on his shoulder. "Shlomi' Tov"3 Ziva was not the most affectionate woman, she was very picky about being touched. It was usually a better idea to let her initiate any physical contact. Though depending on circumstance she would allow Esau to be an exception.

Esau kept his expression neutral. Ziva was a stubborn woman and not easily argued with—even when she was wrong. Others might have been put off facing down such an obstinate personality, but had their roles been reversed, he would have been unable to sit idly by and do nothing. "Just... be careful," he advised. In the comfort of their own home, he spoke in Hebrew. "You do not want to make things worse."He didn't put up much of a fight when Ziva changed the subject and began talking about their son. Josiah, their little miracle. Esau had been equal parts excited and thankful when he had first heard the news. He knew his wife wanted to have another child—a brother or sister for their firstborn—but they had had no such luck yet. He confirmed his wife's suspicion. "Yes. We made a thorough tactical sweep of the bedroom to ensure the area was secure and I stayed with him until he fell back asleep."Ziva made first contact, placing her hand on his shoulder. Implied permission or no, he kept at a safe distance for what would inevitably come next in response. "Next time you wish to ignore doctor's orders, perhaps we should send Josiah to stay with a sitter. I can arrange for a more... strenuous workout." Either for the provocative suggestion or for touching her, Esau fully expected Ziva to retaliate and try to bury him six feet under, but he'd be ready for it. And, unlike her, he was actually healthy—a decided advantage in their usual back-and-forth. He couldn't deny himself: it was often worth it just to see her reaction. "Certainly it would be far more enjoyable than your normal routine."Ziva Sokolov

" What am I supposed to do with him? " " Cuff yourself to him " " I'd rather you shoot me first." " That can be arranged, if you would like " | [attr="class","walkpost"] [attr="class","linescr"] Ziva sometimes got tired of his overprotectiveness but that was Esau when she was hurt. It was like she was made of glass. “Ken Ahavat”1 She knew to be careful, but why did he had state the obvious and try to sound like her father. Ziva’s eyes gazed over his face. If she was stubborn, then he was a pain in the ass most days.
Hearing Esau talk about Josiah and the monster sweep she chuckled lightly. Josiah was going to understand more than about how to be safe by the time he was five than most people did in a lifetime. She glanced over Esau with a somewhat subdued smile as he talked about their son.
Then her husband started poking at her in a provocative manner… Eyes simply narrowed before becoming a blank expression. Shoving off of him, she simply decided that she needed time to herself. Grabbing her water bottle off the table, she headed out front and sat on the steps. Really she wanted to run; but she knew better. So she just sat on the steps of their house watching the traffic up and down the street.
Ziva ran her hand along the neck of the water bottle in a circular pattern. Right now she was just shutting down. Shutting down to hide things that hurt. Not wanting to upset Esau to she had deciding walking away was the best option right now. She’d already upset him by trying to get rid of her stress. Ziva did not want to talk.
1 - Of course, Love

[attr="class","esaunah"] [attr="class","esauleft"] [attr="class","esauleft2"] | [attr="class","esauright"] Left behind in Ziva's wake, Esau stared at the doorway she had fled through. Normally Ziva would tease provocatively back, or just plant him on his ass for that kind of comment. Those were the reactions he was accustomed to, because she liked when he teased. She mostly certainly would not beat a hasty retreat out the door like she just had. That was... very unlike her. His hand traveled up to his chest where she had planted her hand and shoved. She'd put real force behind the strike; not enough to seriously injure, but it had done its job. He closed his eyes and considered. If it wasn't the teasing itself, perhaps mentioning their son beforehand had been the trigger. Yes, that was the one thing that made sense. Ziva wanted another child, as did he, but they had had no such luck. And over time, her hope had been crushed. He maintained his optimism still, but with each day that passed, it seemed Josiah would be their only child. Few things could trouble Ziva so deeply, which is why he wasn't about to let his wife be alone right now. Esau followed her out the front door and dropped down next to her on the steps. He could also be stubborn—or as Ziva preferred to call it—a pain in the ass. When it came to his wife, he couldn't help but look out for her, in much the same way she had done for him when they'd first met back in Israel. Yes, he knew she could take care of herself; if he was to be perfectly honest, she was perhaps more capable than he. That wouldn't stop him from worrying when she was hurting, physically or otherwise, as she was now. "You know I will simply sit here with you until you talk to me."If Ziva felt like she needed to vent, or whatever it was she needed to do, he could take it. Conversely, if the opposite were true, and she wanted to lock up her emotions, Esau would still be there. Ziva Sokolov [attr="class","esauright2"] |

" What am I supposed to do with him? " " Cuff yourself to him " " I'd rather you shoot me first." " That can be arranged, if you would like " | [attr="class","walkpost"] [attr="class","linescr"]Ziva was taking in a little of everything. That was her, an introvert that didn't let many people in. The bond she had with Esau was lifelong. Whatever it was, she'd never been able to handle being separated. First it was best friends, then lovers, and then life partners. Yet she was just the type to keep most things to herself. Esau had always been the one to poke and prod her until she spilled the beans. That was if there was any beans to spill. Though, he also knew when something was a miss but a simple deviation from whatever was normal. Men.
The whole thing was a mess. Ziva contrary to what most people believed, just covered her emotions. She was human of course they were there, but she was at times like a robot. It was easier to pretend nothing was wrong and just lie about anything deep down. Except Esau had helped teach her how to lock things away, and she excelled at it. Probably the one person who could unlock it.
"You know we can always just sit here" she reminded him as she leaned her head on his shoulder. She adjusted her jacket, letting the winter weather lightly blow across the porch. Ziva didn't mind, she was rather warm most of the time. That didn't stop her from trying to sneak more warmth though. Esau was still usually warmer.
Ziva talked on Ziva time. It couldn't be dragged out of her before then. Though she knew Esau would be able to read into her face. So she just didn't look in his eyes. That would be her undoing. Ziva most times just lost to him. She was stubborn but he was worse most of the times; but she never folded without a fight.

[attr="class","esaunah"] [attr="class","esauleft"] [attr="class","esauleft2"] | [attr="class","esauright"] Esau wrapped his arm around Ziva, pulling his wife in closer, as she latched onto additional warmth. He was simply content to have her at his side. The cold December air nipping through his clothing might start to bother him eventually, but he'd been wearing a light sweatshirt with the sleeves pushed up inside the house. He'd pushed them back down on the way out the door to help combat the chill. He didn't pressure her into anything. Sometimes it was just best to let Ziva process through her emotions and talk in her own time, though when it came to his spouse, one could never tell what time was the right time. Esau had simply learned to be patient with her. If something was truly bothering her, he would give her a couple of small pokes and prods to remind her that he was there and then be incredibly, incredibly stubborn. He would sit with her as long as he needed to. He smiled when she spoke, a small thing, easily missed. "I do not have a problem with this. You can talk to me when you are ready, or not at all if you prefer, but you will not get rid of me so easily."So he would sit and wait and talk with her about other things. There was something he'd been meaning to ask her for a few days now. The truth was, it had been far too long since he had last seen his sister, and he wanted to change that. Family was important to him, and he had so little of it left. There was his partner sitting next to him, of course, and their son, and Efrat. But she was back in Israel and he was here in Chicago. Practically worlds apart. "How would you feel about Efrat coming to spend a week or two with us sometime next year?"Ziva Sokolov [attr="class","esauright2"] |

" What am I supposed to do with him? " " Cuff yourself to him " " I'd rather you shoot me first." " That can be arranged, if you would like " | [attr="class","walkpost"] [attr="class","linescr"] For whatever reason, she was in a cuddling mood. This was not normal for her. Though when she was it was surprising to find that Esau let her cuddle. Cuddling with Ziva could be like cuddling a cactus. Likely she would snap. It really did have to be her idea. Lifting her head she sighed as she finally looked towards him.
The one thing that made Esau easy to talk to, was that she had known him three decades. Even though they had spent a good bit of that apart, she knew things and he knew things and it was hard to keep secrets from someone who knew everything about you. Esau's patience amazed her at times. It went well with her stubbornness. "If I was trying to get rid of you. You would be on the ground bleeding." They both knew it wouldn't be that easy, but it was the point of the matter.
Then talk turned to his sister. "Your sister is always welcome Ahavat" she replied quietly. Ziva knew what it was like to be world's apart from family. Though the only family she had was Esau and Josiah. Then of course by extention Esau's family. Sometimes family was just a sore subject for her; but when it came to them visiting, she was usually very open to the idea.

[attr="class","esaunah"] [attr="class","esauleft"] [attr="class","esauleft2"] | [attr="class","esauright"] To say Esau and Ziva were an ordinary American couple would be a stretch. One could consider him a fish out of water in what was still a new country to him, but Esau observed the people around him going about their daily lives. It was hard to just turn off his tactical training. Many of these couples appeared to be extraordinarily affectionate, even in public spaces, kissing, hugging, and cuddling for anyone to see. It was rare that Ziva wanted to cuddle at all—and outside, where someone walking past or driving by could see them? Just about unheard of, which is why he wanted her to open up to him. It was just another piece of evidence that something was really bothering her. If she couldn't talk to her childhood friend, the man she had known for three decades, who had become her lover, who could she talk to? Esau met her eyes, as Ziva reminded him that, if she truly did not want him around, then he would be on the ground bleeding. Esau huffed, amused but not completely irritated, just loud enough for his wife to hear. If he was being perfectly honest with himself, Ziva was the more capable fighter, but he would never actually admit that to her. Technically, he didn't have to. They both knew. Though he would certainly give her some grief about it. "You think so, do you? I am considered fairly dangerous as well."Perhaps Ziva could accuse him of being sentimental, but nothing was more important to him than his family, and the last time he had seen Efrat had been after his mother passed away. Under the circumstances, it had been less than happy. "Efrat has always been able to see through me." Esau chuckled. Even after his Duvdevan training, but especially before he had been conscripted. "Do you remember the first time we slept together? You had just returned from your mandatory IDF service. We were so loud your father caught us in bed together. Efrat knew I was smitten with you long before then. I think she always wanted us to end up together. She has always liked you. She told me once: she admires how strong you are. How you are willing to take on anything."Ziva Sokolov [attr="class","esauright2"] |

Ziva was an American on paper, but she was Israeli through and through. Her relationship with Esau had kept her tied more to her roots than most couples. Even her move to NCIS and she had only opened up to her team, because she had come to trust them. There was no American in her as much as people were made to think outside of their home. Though Ziva's lack of affection wasn't her Israeli nature, it was her hardened wall she had built up around the world. One full of death, destruction, and things that most people didn't have to see. You either hardened or you broke in Mossad. Ziva hard been the one to harden. Ziva always told Esau everything, just on Ziva time; which probably felt like an eternity.
"Fairly dangerous Ahavat; that puts it all into perspective." She chuckled. Though they both knew when push came to shove her training won. He'd taught her, and the student had outlearned her master. Even if he was special forces, she knew that it didn't always mean strength. Ziva was deadly and used everything to get what she wanted. Her eyes pierced into his and there was a hardness behind her eyes. She was shutting out everything but reaching for him. It's what she did best.
"That has never been difficult. I am able to see through you." It was true, Ziva knew many of the same things he did; how to shut off especially. Ziva was more open over the last few years with Josiah around. It made her feel like the family could be normal. But it wasn't an overnight transition. She knew what Esau was doing, he was building her up so he could tear down her wall. Ziva hated when he did that because he was so good at it. Ziva never broke under pressure except to Esau, she was annoyed at him now. Annoyed that he was being... dammit Esau. "Must you be so difficult?" she questioned. "I will talk when I am ready to talk" she called him out on it.

[attr="class","esaunah"] [attr="class","esauleft"] [attr="class","esauleft2"] | [attr="class","esauright"] Esau felt the smile tugging at his lips. Like Ziva, he excelled at burying his emotions behind an exterior of stone. His work in the IDF had made it an absolute necessity to shut down in the field, as had hers with Mossad, but with Josiah in their lives, he too had been making a concentrated effort to express those same emotions he once would have tucked away out of sight and out of mind without a second thought. The man his coworkers saw was very different than the one his family saw. There had been so many wonderful moments he and Ziva had shared with their son along the way: the day Josiah was born… when he said his first word… took his first steps… How could Esau not beam with pride? Allowing himself to be open with his wife and son wasn't a bad thing. He let the smile win. "Yes," he insisted, but he was purposefully teasing her now. "Fairly dangerous. I have to take it easy on my wife, do I not? If I beat you too often, surely you would have me sleeping outside."
There was no denying how easily Ziva could read him—indeed, even better than his own sister could. One look and she could see right through him. Part of it testified to her Mossad training, but it spoke more to just how well she knew him. That went with the territory when you married your best friend—someone he had known since he was three years old. "I have always been an open book to you," Esau admitted. "Ever since we were children. You have always been able to tell when my thoughts troubled me, when concerns weighed me down, when I needed to talk... Sometimes I'm convinced you know me better than I know myself."
Then Ziva called him out on being difficult, reminding him that she wouldn't talk until she was ready. And not a second sooner. Perhaps she was not entirely wrong. Esau wanted her to talk, of course, and a lifetime of knowing Ziva had taught him how to break through her defenses, but this wasn't one of those times. "Such was not my intention. I still want you to talk on your own time. I thought that it might be something worth knowing is all. And, if it did help you talk about whatever is troubling you, what is so wrong with that?"

" What am I supposed to do with him? " " Cuff yourself to him " " I'd rather you shoot me first." " That can be arranged, if you would like " | [attr="class","walkpost"] [attr="class","linescr"]
Ziva could only raise a brow at Esau when he mentioned having to sleep outside. She simply shook her head. "You would think such things" she denoted in their familiar and native tongue. "Your wife can handle a lot more than you throw at her" she teased as she let her hands travel down the sides of his neck. He was distracting when he was this close sometimes. Ziva was in an affectionate mood of sorts. She smiled up at him as she could feel her wall crumbling to him. For him it was that simple.
"Sometimes" she teased lightly. Other times she wasn't so sure that she understood what he was after. Probably half the reason she was sitting outside in the weather. Taking what he said the wrong way, or being overly senstive to something and trying to cover it up. "But. I wouldn't trade you." Ziva pointed out.
"What is the phrase the Americans say?" she paused before swapping into English. "Shut up and kiss me?" Sometimes he talked too much. That was no secret that Ziva held from him. She let her eyes fall into his, she knew she had a lot to be thankful for. Each day that he walked in the door coming home; they had a family and that was hardly something she took lightly, even if she wasn't outwardly affectionate most of the time.

[attr="class","esaunah"] [attr="class","esauleft"] [attr="class","esauleft2"] | [attr="class","esauright"] Esau continued to be taken aback by Ziva's particularly affectionate behavior since he'd followed her outside. Something had gotten into her—first she'd curled up on his shoulder, now she had taken her hands and run them down his neck. He certainly wasn't about to object. He enjoyed this side of his wife, and she so rarely showed it, but that wouldn't stop him from teasing her back, as they so often did with one another. "Oh? No booting your husband out into the cold Chicago night? You would rather him share the same bed—no matter the outcome? That changes things. Maybe I need to start sparring to win now."Such was the easy, familiar banter of two childhood friends turned lovers. He and Ziva had built a life together—and though, in the past, the distance of their jobs had come between them, they had always found their way back to each other. Some things were just meant to be. He believed this to be one of those things. "I would not trade you either. For anything. I could not imagine my life without you or Josiah." With his wife trying to recall the exact expression, Esau anticipated having to step in and correct whatever came next. Ziva often got her American sayings wrong, turning them into amusing malapropisms that would frequently draw a little chuckle from him. He compared it to opening a box of chocolates: you just never knew what you were going to get. Following her lead, he switched into his still accented English. "You would get that one right." He leaned in closer, letting his forehead rest against hers, but made no move to kiss her—at first. If he started, it would be bloody hard to stop, but the smirk on his face told the entire story, as he refused to make it easy on her. Was that supposed to be an order? What would she do, if he did not? Esau continued to string her along, placing a quick peck on her cheek and backing off. "That is what you asked for, yes?"Ziva Sokolov [attr="class","esauright2"] |

Ziva raised a brow when he said he should spar to win. "Don't push your luck, but you would still lose" she reminded him. Finger tracing his lips before lightly tapping him on the nose. Ziva felt a lot like her playful self around Esau quite a bit of the time. There was lots of hiding emotions but there was also lots of laughing and giggling. There was a lot more of it in their younger years, though time had chosen to be not so kind. Regardless, she tried to find the good in things.
Though they shared a childhood, it was hardly spoken of on Ziva's part. Mainly because Ari and Tali memories haunted her. It had always been Ari, Ziva, Esau, Efrat, and Tali. Most of the times the memories were hard for her. Though her mind was brought out of her own memories by Esau pecking her cheek. When he used English she shook her head. He did that just to harass her at times, that much she knew. While she was a woman of many languages he had by far mastered English much better.
Ziva took her hand to his neck at first she was being rather seductive like until she pushed him backwards at the chest and pinning him to the brick pillar behind him. Though she was now sitting, facing him with legs wrapped around one of his. "That was a terrible example. Do I need to teach you?" She replied swapping back to their native tongue.
