Hank hadn’t ever been the kind to just turn his back and walk away, sure he was used to doing that when he needed the help because he hadn’t know anything else for a long time. He stood on his own and fixed his own problems, Erin had showed him it didnt need to be that way and if it hadn’t have been for her the day Justin had died then he would likely be serving a life sentence for something that was probably going to be a lot worse than it needed to be.
He was glad she wasn’t fighting him on things because he knew that could go badly wrong. There wasn’t any way that he was going to let her go back to work now, if he had been considering it before now it was just history. Someone else could take her cases for the day and if he could manage it a week or two though he knew that would be pushing it. After she was shot she didnt exactly slow down any not that he was dating her or had married her at that point but still. She just didnt stop.
A nightmare, he wished he could tell her that to make it easier. Two line of duty deaths was unimaginable and something he wouldnt have ever wished upon anyone. “I wish I could do that Erin but I cant, everyone is safe at the moment.” He said knowing that at that moment it was likely the safest time to be a Reagan, it didnt take away from what had happened but then it wasn’t like Danny was going to be working if Linda had anything to do with it and he was going to take the rest of the day to look after Erin.
“I got this then.” He said with a smile trying to be positive about something, he knew what she liked and didnt which made ordering a lot easier. “I love you too and i’ve never doubted it for a second.” He said noticing she sounded scared, he knew that it was a nightmare working as they did when sometimes you couldnt even guarantee coming home at night but then it was what they did. Hank listened to her practically tell Chicago to screw it before she kissed him, he couldnt deny he was happy about it and exactly stuff it to anyone who said anything about it.
Hank kissed her back as he hugged her close. “What would they twist it as? Handsome relatively young... cop gets kissed by the amazingly sexy DA. Has a Disney movie written all over it.” He said trying to take her mind of things for a moment, it was always nice to just be them and to be them in public was even better though he could imagine how it would be twisted in the media.

Erin Reagan Voight
Erin just felt frozen in her husband's arms, but she knew it was safe there. Whether she wanted to talk or she wanted to cry. But everything started hitting her as she settled down. Her eyes glazed over and just focused in the general direction of the way she laid on his shoulder. Her mind going completely crazy as she made plans to meet with her daughter. Erin would feel better knowing that Nicky was okay. This wasn't even about Erin, the whole family was going to be a mess.
Erin just hugged Hank close to her. Her worry for him everyday it was there, but part of her hated what cops had to go through and now more than ever. "He was just..." she couldn't find words, what words she could find we choked out and over emotional. "... was... he was ..." she coughed a few times trying to take a breathe. "... doing his job" she managed to complete the sentence. She'd still not let go of the almost death grip she had on Hank right now with her arms wrapped around his back. Her fingers tapped on his shoulder blade.
Hank saying that he had the ordering she nodded. Seeing him smile at a time like this, sometimes it helped. Her one hand came to the side of his face. "I don't see how you do it. How do you walk out that door everyday? Knowing that something could go sideways or upside down?" She could ask the same of Danny or her dad. She had to be the one lawyer in a family of cops.
Hearing Hank talk about Disney movies she chuckled a bit. It was a distraction, it gave her mind something else to picture. "Careful Beauty and the Beast might take over the headlines" she teased. Taking off her necklace which held her wedding rings she carefully took the wedding rings off and put them where they belonged. It was exactly what she did at home. Though she dropped her necklace chain in her purse. Every moment mattered so why were they playing games to be careful? It was stupid.
Erin couldn't deny that the pain of losing her brother wasn't there just because she was distracted, but she would latch onto any distraction that she could manage to her hands on if he wouldn't let her go back to work. Erin wanted to bolt but she just buried her head. Her phone rang in her hand and she saw that it was one of the aides in the office. "No, those go to the Bransen file. If you need anything else just call Barba. I'm going to take a few days." Right she should probably send an email out to the office. She hung up the phone and started typing an email as she laid on Hank's shoulder.

The worry couldnt stop them as he knew that if it did they would be more likely to get shot. A bad guy around every corner, no it had to be put into perspective but when a family had lost two members to the same thing. It was tough to explain that and still walk out of the door knowing that she would worry about was might happen. Hank hugged her back having a good idea of what she was trying to say, it wasn’t like any of them asked to be shot but sometimes it happened and wrong place right time it was part of their job.
Every day it was a possibility to know that it might be their last but then it didnt stop them going out of the door. “He’s a hero Erin, and he did his job well. Everyone knows he did.” He said trying to be positive, there wasn’t a doubt in his mind that Jamie hadn’t done the right thing and he could only have wished that it didnt end the way it had. He knew he couldnt change it but then two Reagan’s gunned down in the line of duty was too much for any family to take.
Hank gazed at her when her hand came to the side of his face but then that question she asked made it tougher to smile. “I know that if I didnt do this every day then I dont know what I’d do.” He said trying to explain it in words but it was difficult to do. “I know that it can go wrong but I know that i’ve been taught to handle it the best way I can. Every single one of us that walks out in a morning or night knows the risks we just know that there’s a bigger risk is we done. Protect and serve, it’s just what we all know how to do.” He said though he knew he wasn’t being very clear on why he did it. He just knew that if he didnt do what he did he would be lost.
“Well anyone that takes a look at you would right in saying it.” He said with a grin, okay so he was worse than crap at flirting and after what had happened it didnt help any but distraction was all he could think of. Keep her thinking of something else and it would all work out fine he thought. Hank watched as she stook off the necklace where the wedding rings were. “Erin are you sure?” He asked knowing how much there was to lose for her, he didnt care about himself simply what might happen with her and her job if people knew.
Hank was about to explain what no work meant when she hung up the phone. Hank left her to type an email as he ordered their lunch for them with a few extras deciding he would order a few different things she liked just in case she changed her mind about anything. “Work can wait Erin, let someone else take the cases.” He said trying not to tell her what to do but then her throwing herself into work right now would end badly.

Erin Reagan Voight
Erin hated their job, some days she despised it. Not being a cop, she didn't understand what it was like to be a target most of the time. No but it was painted all over her loved ones and she knew what it was like to lose people that she cared about. Erin couldn't even think to think at this point. She could feel her soul breaking. There had been four of them and now there was just two of them. It was her and Danny.
"He was going to be a lawyer. He went to law school. After Joe... he changed his mind" If he had been a lawyer, then he would still be around and it hurt. Knowing that if she could have talked him out of it, he might have been alive. "He would have made a hell of a lawyer too" she added. Jamie the lawyer, because in her mind that alternate reality somewhere he was alive. She just didn't know what to do right now except grasp for the familiar. Which right now was Hank and work. And he'd just made option number two impossible.
There was no way that Erin would take away being a cop from Hank or any of the others but it scared her sometimes when they walked out the door. Erin understood, but only because she was a cop's sister, a cop's daughter, a cop's granddaughter, and now a cop's wife. Just part of her had to know what ran through their mind as they left. Her hand came to the side of his face and she just barely managed to crack a smile. It took a strong person to keep walking out the door to do their job at a time like this.
Maybe he couldn't flirt, but he didn't have to do such a thing. The best part about being married was being able to get away with flattery instead of flirting. She was securing both rings on her finger when she heard him ask her if she was sure. "I'm sure" she knew what she had to lose, but her job never really mattered that much to her. People either trusted her or they didn't. What was important to her was her family. She laced her hand with his as they walked. Erin could see the look in his eyes when her phone rang.
"So I am supposed to leave the office for a few days with them not knowing? Nice try." She showed him the email she was sending which was nothing more than letting Barba know what was going on and that she was taking a few days leave. Erin pushed send. "There" she would let Barba sort it out. Turning her work phone off she stuffed it in his back pocket. "See gone." Erin was in a pacing mood. If she couldn't have work to keep her distracted she just wanted to keep moving. Erin was getting antsy it was noticable in the way she moved as the pair left the restaurant.

Hank listened to Erin talk about what Jamie was going to be, the kid was a good cop from what he knew and had seen. Even for a lawyer he made a good cop though he couldnt help but think sticking to the lawyer side would have been safer. “He was a hell of a lawyer Erin, you should have heard him telling people about clean arrests and the letter of the law.” He said with a smile, sometimes it was annoying but with Jamie was genuine. Not done to out smart or tell them their jobs but to simply keep them on the right line.
The job was all he had known and grown up with, being a cop felt natural to him and it was a job he enjoyed doing. Yes there were the days when he wanted to barricade himself inside his own house and not set foot outside but then if he didnt go out how could he set any kind of example to anyone else. Even if his example in life was more a what not to do book of rules rather than good but then doing his job was all he could do when things happened like that.
He couldnt slow down or stop for too long because once your head got to thinking about things it was tougher to go back. Tougher to take that step knowing that it could be a last day or hour or second, it changed on the flip of a coin but sometimes it was ten percent training and ninety percent luck. Hank was the superstitious kind but sometimes on a day like it was he found he would do something a little odd and maybe even attend church for the first time in years.
Hank smiled seeing the two rings on her finger, it meant a lot to him that she was willing to be out in the open about it though as he held her hand he didnt want her to find trouble because of it. Maybe if he was the kind of cop that had a spotless record, the sort that was the poster boy for the CPD. Yeah practically everything that Hank wasn’t, he had IA in his hair most days for something and his methods were a little well whatever they were they worked and got results which was fine in his book.
“Hey I’m just saying that they can help you out for a change.” He said trying to smile as he glanced at the email she wasn sending. He watched her turn the phone off before she stuffed in into his back pocket. “Good, last thing I want for you is work bothering you.” He said as he wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a hug before kissed her forehead lightly. "You should put your phone in my back pocket more often, you never know where it might go." He teased lightly deciding that distraction was better than nothing.
Hank saw her getting antsy, “You just need to focus on you and Nicky and your family, everything else comes second. Someone else told me that a while ago and she turned out to be a very smart woman.” He said with a smile, so she had stopped him from raising the roof on the city to find his sons killer and then stopped her from killing Thomas but then if he could keep her distracted from work then maybe he could start to help her a little.

Erin Reagan Voight Hearing Hank she just nodded, her facade finally dropping. Tears just flooded it's spot. Clutching onto Hank like her life depended on it as she just tried to think of something to say. Everyone had been proud of Jamie, that wasn't about to change. She buried her head under her coat, as she fought to keep out of the wind.
Life was too short to hide things. So why were they hiding? If Erin had listened to all the rumours about Hank, she'd never have made up her own mind. "All the cops in Chicago. And the most annoying, stubborn, pain in the ass sergeant finds me. Damn right I don't care what Chicago thinks" she replied. If he wasn't all the above, she wasn't so sure he would have fought the way he did when he found her on the floor of her office.
Erin closed her eyes. Being eye level with Hank it was sometimes hard to hide what she was thinking or feeling. The eyes were the gateway to the soul, or so someone told her once. As he teased she smiled, though she knew deep down the pain in her eyes was like a flashing neon sign as they came open to face him. Erin teasingly grabbed his behind. "Don't tempt me to do something we will both regret" oh two could play at the teasing game.
Wait was he quoting her back to herself? "Either you are flattering or trying to make me feel better. Either way both are working" she ascertained as they made their way to the car. Erin was in the passenger seat without too much of a fuss. But she still wanted to drown in her work. That was easier than facing any of this.
Maybe she could just go home and sleep everything away? Surely Hank would let her rest after they had eaten? Maybe she could go to sleep and wake up and this would all be over. Most of the time Erin sat like a normal person in the car, unless she had something bugging her then she put her head in Hank's lap laying across the seats. Though this time she didn't bother with her seatbelt. It just didn't dawn on her as she ran her thumb over his thigh in circles.

Hank just held Erin the minute her facade dropped, he knew that it would take time and putting on a brave face was fine to those that didnt know you. Those that did saw through it and he had been one of the first to prove that to him. Jamie was a cop to be proud of and if he was truthful all the Reagan’s were, Frank had done a great job in raising a family it was just awful that he had to go through losing two sons before they had managed to have family of their own.
He chuckled when she spoke about all the cops in Chicago. Of all the DA’s he had to find her in her office that day, he was so rattled about her not signing off on his warrant finding her shot on the floor had come as a surprise. Even thinking of that now made him feel cold and sick with worry. “Yeah well that goes for you too, the most stubborn, beautiful, fantastic pain in the ass lawyer finds me.” He replied with a grin though he never wanted to find her hurt again even if that first meeting had been the start of a wonderful thing.
He loved looking into her eyes though when she closed them he knew it was to hide what she was thinking and feeling. Seeing her smile was a great thing and despite the fact her smile didnt go with the pain he saw in her eyes it was a good thing to see. “Woah watch that hand of yours.” He said wiggling away from her hand for a moment as he laughed. “Me tempt you? I didnt think the DA was corrupted that easily.” He teased as he shook his head at her. “Who said I’d regret it? Besides I could always get the handcuffs out if anything gets illegal.” He teased.
Hank grinned as he shrugged, “Flattering or making you feel better, not sure but at least it’s working for you.” He said as they made their way back to the car. Hank made his way to the driver’s seat as he placed lunch on the back seat carefully. Hank left her for a moment as she lay across the seats as he felt her thumb run over his thigh. He wanted to tell her he was sorry for her loss, that things would get better but none of it sounded right to be spoken. Hank simply reached across to get her belt for her knowing that he didnt want to take any chances with her safety. “Lou, wont be long until we’re home.” He said trying to have her think about something else.

Erin Reagan Voight Finding the truth is like deconstructing a milkshake
⚖ Tag ⚖
Erin didn't really know what to do. She felt like another piece of her was ripped out. All she could do was stare off blankly at nothing that was until she heard him start talking about the day on the floor in her office. If it hadn't been for Hank.. Frank would have had two dead sons and a dead daughter. Erin pushed the thought away, it would do her no good to think about what that would have done to Nicky or the others because she was here.
Lou knew that he wasn't exactly a poster child for lawyer publicity. Though she had to wonder some days if he would have done the same had she taken that criminal defense attorney job offer. Erin elbowed him lightly as he called her a pain in the ass right back. "Lawyers are good for that though. We have to be a pain to get the job done." Though the lawyer cop debate that they teased each other about was a distraction. Though in her head it was a reminder that something some wrong could turn out for the better in the end. No matter how terrible it was. Though it was hardly the thought you had when you lost someone close to you.
Erin was soon laughing through tears when Hank was telling her to watch where she put her hands. It was superfical and genuine at the same time. She was laughing at Hank, because she knew better. "Oh so now you are arresting me sergeant?" she played into his teasing. She was allowed that right. Stepping inches from his lips she still couldn't hide the pain deep inside but she could try and use the distraction. Erin didn't understand why so many could hate him. Rough on the edges but he had a big heart. When she could get his sense of humour to come out... it was like a breathe of fresh air.
Erin took the belt from Hank and clipped it into the buckle. Though she was somewhere between distracted and the calm letting everything get to her again. The exhaustion that followed her tears was setting in as she heard him say they would be home soon. It was middle of the day, that was awkward to not be sitting in rush hour traffic. "Thanks Sergeant Obvious." she teased a bit.

Hank couldnt have imagined not being there that day, it had turned out to be the day that had changed his life for the better. So far Erin had kept him out of jail, stopped him committing murder of a fed and then that was only the stuff that would have seen him doing serious jail time. She had been there for a lot of things and now it was his turn to do that for her though he wished it wasn’t Jamie. It wasn’t like he could change it but at least now he could watch out for both Lou and Nicky even if Nicky was tough case.
Whatever side she had picked he would have done the same thing for her, he might not have shut up about the fact she was working on the wrong side for a long time but then luckily for Erin she was on the right side for a lawyer. Hank laughed lightly and shook his head, “No, if you were friendly and just did what us cops asked you to it would be a lot easier to get along.” He offered though where was the fun in that, half the sport was arguing with a lawyer over the reasons why they should do something until they actually did it.
Seeing her laugh was good even if it was through her tears. “Since you asked.” He said as she stepped inches from his lips, he was more than happy to provide her with a distraction. “I’d arrest you any day of the week you wanted me to.” He said as he clicked the handcuffs on his belt, “Besides they’re only funny looking bracelets.” So arresting the DA in the middle of the street wasn’t the smartest idea given that he’d probably land himself in an office he didnt want to be in. Then again when the DA was your wife, there were a lot of plus points to it he thought glad that he could at least distract her from what was going on for a short time.
“Okay, okay, just pointing it out.” He said with a smile, “Traffic is going to be light so we can make it home a lost faster. Then you can just relax and let me take care of you for a change.” He said knowing it was better to state that then than go full blown domesticated on her when he knew she would be looking for things to do. Not that he was about to let her but then she had Nicky to think of and the rest of her family, he just had to make sure she was alright or as fine as she could be.

When Hank started going on about lawyers not being friendly she glared and then playfully shoved him a bit. "You don't like lawyers that play nice Hank." she reminded him trying to keep a straight face. So she had tears streaming down her face but she was baiting Hank in the middle of Chicago.. yeah this was about to go over really well. Then again sometimes he was easy to bait.
"Then you better arrest me for assault on a police officer" she stated before lightly shoving him again. "Because right now that is all you have on me" she reminded him as she shoved him against the wall. Though she was clearly just being playful. There was no actual assault involved. Kissing him once she pulled back with a smirk.
It took her a moment. "I dare you" she whispered in his ear. Okay so maybe she WOULD go as far as to taunt him outright on the streets of Chicago. This could only end well. Then again who cared, she certainly didn't right now as she poked him playfully in the side. Erin was clearly trying to incite him into following through with his threat.
Oh he was going to argue taking care of her. "I'm still cooking. I need SOMETHING to focus on and it's... relaxing." Erin and Sharon were alike in that cooking was relaxing for them. It helped them focus on something. Erin needed that but she'd let him watch out for her. Normally she would have argued him over it, though she wasn't sure she wanted to push that button right now.

Hank rolled his eyes, why did she have to know him so well? No lawyers weren’t his favourite people until Erin but she was the exception to his rule. “No, I like one lawyer and that’s it. The rest are still annoying.” He stated smiling at her straight face, he could still see her tears but at least she was trying to bait him though he was too caught up in it not to be baited by her. “I mean if you all just agreed with the cops it would save loads of time but oh on, you have to ask for probable cause or evidence. Like we go around without it.” He added.
When she teased him about arresting her for assault on a police officer he considered it. “Oh really, that’s all I have on you?” He asked raising his brow a little knowing she was being playful. He kissed her back though when she pulled away and dared him who was he to deny her what she wanted. Or what she dared. Another poke to the side and Hank quickly glanced around before he deciding who was he to deny her what she wanted.
With that he took the handcuffs off his belt and fixed them around her wrists lightly, if she had been under arrest he might not have been so gentle. “Erin Voight, you’re under arrest for the vicious assault on a police officer.” He stated keeping his best straight face as he leaned toward her ear. “Anything you say can and will be held against you, you have the right to remain silent but I doubt that, you have the right to an attorney but you are one so feel free to talk yourself out of it.” He teased whispering against her ear lightly.
Hank knew there was no keeping her away from cooking as he nodded, “Fine you can cook but that’s it, I’m doing the rest Lou, no argument or I’ll cuff you to the sofa.” He said though how he didnt know but if it meant he kept her from doing anything he would do. Then again if Nicky came back to find that, yeah no it was a bad idea he thought silently.

Erin just smirked when he said the rest of the lawyers were annoying. "Sometimes we just call it like it is." She whispered. Though she was up in his face. Inches from his lips. So she wasn't really in a playful mood but he had her distracted and that was all she could ask for right now. She was about to say something when he questioned her charges.
"Are you questioning the charges you are bringing against your wife sergeant?" She paused, "because if you are. I think I can provide some assistance" she added just before he was "arresting" her. "I could think of a few ways to get out of this" she replied with a smirk as she kissed him. Even if her hands were behind her back she could still rub up against him. Leaning her head back she kissed his neck.
"What now?" she was harrassing him as much as she could; but this was oddly amusing and distracting. Erin didn't exactly have a habit of being arrested. Though she had to admit, there was a thrill to this. Then again it was probably because it was Hank and she wasn't actually in trouble. Nope, her mind wasn't even in the gutter. "Maybe the officer was just in my way. Maybe he invaded my personal space." Okay so that wasn't really a defense but she could humour him right?
Once she heard Hank telling her that he could cuff her to the sofa she laughed. "I believe you would. But no need. No arguments" she agreed. Arguing with Hank was something she was capable of doing and something she would do if it came down to it but she saw the logic in this for once. She understood why he being this way. Then again she wasn't sure if she was going to fall apart with nothing to do or not. Sleep was certainly not on her list of things to do but she was almost asleep on his lap. Erin really was exhausted just from being upset.

Hank shook his head, “No, you guys call it the way that makes us cops have to go find micro dirt to get a sheet of paper signed.” He said with a slight grin as she was inches from his lips. If it was her asking then he’d spend all day digging through dirt to get her what she needed but others not so much. When a cop said someone was guilty and have evidence to prove it, it was usually solid. Sometimes lawyers were great and other times he just got a headache but for Erin, it was none of the above.
“No not at all, just wondering how long a sentence she would want.” He asked grinning hearing her comment about providing some assistance. “Trying to bribe an officer of the law too, well that adds extra time on too.” He said smirking now as she kissed him and leaned back, why hadn’t he done this before he wondered though really at what point did arresting your wife really cross your mind? “Oh really, like what ways because I’m not giving up the key.” He added kissing her back not caring who saw what at that moment.
“Well usually I’d just haul you off to jail but since it’s you then we’ll have to see first.” He explained though really he needed more than a solid reason to bring in the DA on charges of anything. It was a lot of fun even if he could land himself in trouble but then that was the thrill of it all. In one day they were now out in the open about it and he had handcuffed her, two things he didnt think would happen. “He was? Well then that changes everything... what if he invaded your personal space again?” He asked grinning as he leaned down to kiss her.
For Erin to help her he’d do anything he could do and he wasn’t above making sure she stayed in one place. “Okay, that’s good. Because I’m not arguing with you either.” He said, he knew why he was doing it and he knew she would do the same for him but then she needed time. As Hank drove he was happy that she was almost asleep, at least that way she was more likely to fall asleep at home and get the rest she needed.
