"Oh, it was more like a 'Nancy Drew' detective, not a real cop one." Kelle chuckled at the silly admission. "And even as a kid I knew I'd never make a Magnum, PI...I mean, 'Lindsay, PI' just doesn't have the same ring to it, but 'Kelle, Paramedic Angel...that's different."
Laughing, she combed her fingers through her hair, then shrugged at his next question, "Yeah, I'm going to one of these days," she answered. "I mean, paramedic was kind of quick and relatively cheap, and it helps not having a mortgage so I can save up. I figure in a couple years I'll be able to afford it."
And in the mean time, she was getting valuable experience. Sure, she was working on people, but a patient was a patient, starting IV's, giving injections, intubating...those were skills that would carry over.
"Just need to decide if I want to do small animals or the big ones, horses and cows...except cows are pretty dumb." She laughed. "I don't know, there's time, that I do know, but looking ahead, five years is forever, and looking back, it's a flash."
Then she looked over at him. "I'd love to learn to ride...and..." she hesitated, wondering if she should pour out everything, if he'd think she expected him to fulfill all her wishes, but then, she'd already started it. "Someday I'd like to ride in a hot air balloon, or a glider, or go on a zip line, see the Aurora..."
Sighing, she leaned back, gazing out the window. "There's time, I know, and I can't do it all at once, and it's good to have goals, right?" As if saving a life wasn't all that much!
"So, does escorting a crazy chick around Scotland meet all your wishes in life?"

“A Nancy Drew, well who needs real cops when you have her. I bet you’d have made a great Nancy Drew.” He said grinning, “Kelle Paramedic Angel works very well and I’ve seen you work, I think if you’d have gone to be Lindsay PI then the world would be down a very good Paramedic Angel.” He said smiling as he listened to her laugh.
“Well I have no doubt you’ll be able to do it. The animals will be just as lucky to have you looking after them too.” He said knowing how much the cost of doing what you wanted to too. He had wanted to run and hide, to turn his tail and live out an existence on a beach somewhere quiet yet he found it required a certain amount of cash and with that came his life after the British Army. Not legal, not great but it provided and gave him cash enough to work with if he lived to see his next pay day which was always a funny issue.
Scott had no doubt that she would make a great vet, he had seen how she was with people and how she stood up for what she wanted even at the risk of her own life. That was an impressive thing as he had never had anyone do that to him before, especially when there was a risk of them getting hurt over it. “Sounds like a tough choice but if cows are pretty dumb then you’d better stick with the small ones.” He said grinning as he chuckled, “Time flies, five years ago or five years ahead it’s a long time into each but a flash in the memory.”
If he took five years off where he was now he was in the beginning of a business of becoming a criminal. Five years later and he was one of the best in getting the jobs done, five years from now he couldnt even begin to think what his life would be like given the recent changes that had happened. Scott smiled as he listened to her goals, “It’s great to have goals and I can make the horse riding goal happen if you want it to.” He said not sure if she had a goal for her goals sort of thing.
“Hot air balloon and gliders and zip lines... those go pretty high up. You sure you weren't a dare devil in a previous life?” He said grinning but then again he hadn’t been in a hot air balloon or a glider and he had been on some zip lines just not the ones at the theme parks. “How did you know that was one of my wishes in life?” He said pretending to be shocked as he grinned at her. “Having company on a trip like this, it’s nice and sure it can count as one of my wishes.”
Scott wasn’t entirely sure that spilling his entire life plan was a great idea but then the basics of it sure. “I love to travel so I’ve a few places to see that I haven’t been yet, I guess like most people I just want to have the normal life. The steady nine to five job, a place I can call mine. The nice house, i’d love to get a pet but time wise it just wouldnt work and a family but then life has its plans so as long as I can keep travelling and finding interesting people.” He said, he had always wanted a family but then when his parents and sibling had been killed he wasn’t sure he could be any good to a family if he couldnt protect his own.
Normal was sounding better and better each day, getting out of the criminal life where he had hurt someone as good as Kelle. He had inherited a mafia that he was trying to keep a fragile peace with the Chicago police department and explaining all that to anyone he’d be lucky if they were still in the room with him. Best to not get too specific with his own plans he figured.

"Oh, well, I have plenty of pets you can borrow whenever you need a fix! Sure, critters took some work and attention, especially dogs, but it's worth it when you get home and they all come to greet you, tails wagging, looking for pets..." Kelle laughed. "Then you walk into the living room and find out the cats knocked your grandma's cherished figurine off the shelf and broke it and the dog pooped on the carpet and someone tore up the couch cushions!" Another laugh as she looked at him. "I guess if you traveled all the time it wouldn't be as special...I mean, you need a job to have a break from for it to be vacation. 'Course, I'd be willing to give full-time travel a try if I had the right person to do it with." Her eyes met his for an instant and suddenly she felt her cheeks burning bright red. "So, ummm..." quickly, she looked out the window, "is that the castle?" Scott Cooper

“Thanks for the offer you never know I might take you up on that one. Pets are fantastic but like you say they are completely worth it.” He said smiling, he would love a happy face when he got home but then was that even possible given what he had done. Would anyone actually be happy to see him, pets included if they knew. “On second thoughts... I never liked the carpet or cushions at my place.” He said chuckling, then again maybe a dog was for him he thought grinning. Scott stared at her for a moment, she would do this more often with the right person he wondered as he nodded to her. “I I guess its all in the company at the end of the day but sure this would be great to do full time, hand eating stones aside and all but full time travel would be good fun.” He said seeing her cheeks burning bright red. He smiled and nodded lightly at her. “Yes that’s the castle, do you like it?” He asked her curiously as he wondered if he might be able to take her on another trip if he didnt manage to ruin this one. It was a tall ask but then maybe if she wanted to travel and she wasnt adverse to him coming along too it would be alright. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP

"It's perfect!" Finally turning her attention from the view out the window, Kelle looked at Scott with a wide smile. "Just exactly like I imagined...banners, turrets, a moat...a knight in shining armor!" A blush touched her cheeks and she quickly looked back out the window. "I bet it has ghosts, and they will get along with my ghosts," she laughed, trying to cover for the corny comment. "And yours, too, if you have them, right?" Of course, she really didn't believe in such things, but there was no reason not to pretend, right? "I can't believe this, people have lived her for hundreds of years, and they never thought that people from thousands of miles away...heck, from a country that didn't even exist, would be coming here." While she wasn't into philosophy per sae, this sort of thing boggled her a bit. "I can't imagine anyone would care about what we did a thousand years from now..." Scott Cooper,

Seeing her wide smile he couldnt help but smile himself, he was the happiest he had been for years and recently he had almost forgotten what that felt like. “I’m happy it’s like you imagined but I’d love to meet this knight in shining armour.” He said as he grinned at her watching her look quickly back out of the window. It was cute when she did that he thought as he nodded, “I’m sure it does and you have ghosts?” He asked her grinning, “Oh I am sure I have ghosts, casper is a very good friend of mine.” He teased though he guessed everyone had their ghosts, it was thing just like angels or anything else like that everyone had them. “No, can you imagine talking to them about it though. Hey we’re from that country that hasn’t been discovered yet but we’re here to make friends and look at your house.” He said chuckling, well the world had been flat at one point so things had changed a lot since then. “I wouldnt be so sure, I mean to think that we would be looked at like history is strange but it happens to everyone right? I mean can you imagine people looking though textbooks on us and our great Scottish adventure one day?” He said smiling. Kelle Lindsay, EMTP

"Not a text book, maybe, but just my block-buster travel bio." Her grin was teasing but she really was keeping a journal, not that it was anything earth-shattering or some amazing prose, but it would give her a reminder of the trip and a way of keeping her friends at home jealous...oh, and updated! "I don't really know what I'd have to do for someone even a hundred years from now remember me" She got out of the car and stretched, her smile wide and open. "Maybe save the Prime Minister or something, right?" Looking back at him, she took his hand then kissed him lightly on the cheek. "Thank you so much, this is so amazing, and generous..." With a sigh, she leaned against him for a moment as she stared at the building, taking it all in, then she squeezed his hand. "Well, let's go see what's inside...if there are ghosts waiting on us!" Eagerly, she towed him toward the castle. Scott Cooper,

“Now I bet that would be on the New York Times best seller list.” He said grinning at her though he had no doubt that if she chose to it would be there with the best of the works. Scott hadn’t thought about keeping a journal, it wasnt as if he could detail his day to day when if anyone read it they would likely be horrified by what they read. The day to day of a recent Mafia guy and previously hit man and kidnapper of the woman next to him. “Ooh yes that’s possible or just be you because to me you’re pretty interesting. So sure I’d read about you in a hundred years from now though not sure i’d get to make it that far.” He joked though yes he didnt think that unless there were some pretty serious medical advances he wouldnt live to one hundred and thirty plus years old. Scott felt himself blush a little when she kissed him lightly as he smiled at her. “It’s nothing honestly, you deserve it for being amazing and generous.” He added knowing he was trying to make up for what he had done but then at the same time she was amazing and generous and gorgeous and so many other things that he would have taken her anywhere she wanted to go without a second thought. He was broken out of his thoughts when she squeezed his hand as he grinned. “Yeah great idea, I mean I cant wait to meet them if they are there.” He said gladly being towed by her toward the castle as he laughed. “Did you bring your ghost busters pack just in case they aren’t too friendly?” He asked her jokingly. "Oh, I'm sure those ghosts'll be friendly!" she insisted, turning to face him with a smile, "after all, I can just charm them...that's my weapon! Flash a smile, be so sweet I make them die of diabetes! There's a reason my partner calls me the 'Patient Whisperer'!" Laughing, she shook her head. "And if not, I'm sure you can fight them off with your trusty sword 'Excalorie! Oh, wait, that's the one that makes it okay to eat too much of anything you want." She frowned. "We might be in trouble if you didn't bring your ghost-fighting sword." Just inside the door, she stopped, her eyes sweeping over the vaulted ceilings and open beams, the tapestries and displays of weapons -- swords, halberds, rifles and pistols -- hung in patterns on the walls. "Oh, wow..." she breathed, "this is awesome!" And not for the first time she wished that there really was time travel so that they could experience the place in its full glory. She ran her fingers lightly over the contours of the carving on the door. "Someone carved this, like six hundred years ago...a real person was touching this...probably never imagined some crazy chick would be standing here looking at their work so many centuries later..." Scott just grinned at her, friendly ghosts he was all for that after seeing too many horror movies and not enough Casper movies. “Oh well then I’ll make sure to stay behind you Patient Whisperer and I can see why that smile can charm, it’s a great smile you have.” He said as he almost wanted to knock himself out, was that his best attempt at flirting or making conversation. He was really out of practice he thought wondering why she hadn’t run a mile for him saying things like that. The point of the trip was to help her not to creep her out he told himself silently. “I didnt pack a sword, sorry never thought I’d get it through customs... you know those guys. No pointy objects on planes no matter where the ghosts are.” He said grinning for a moment, “But you’ll be okay, I wont let anything happen to you, sword or not.” Watching her reaction to it all was priceless, it was one of those money cant buy moments as he enjoyed seeing her take it all in as he watched her for a moment before he glanced away. It felt like stepping back in time to a place that hadn’t really changed. It was amazing to think that peopled lived in those places and the decor likely hadn’t changed much either over the years. He was happy about that given that it looked amazing inside. Scott grinned as he listened to her, “I’m happy you think so, it is awesome.” Living in a castle must have been magic but then was that the normal thing back then at least for some it might have been though he couldnt imagine waking up to a place like they were stood in. Open fires, cool stone floors honestly it was magical standing in it now let alone back then when it would have been a hive of activity. “Not a crazy chick at all but yeah it’s fantastic, no power tools or computers or phones just pure human imagination and strength built these places. Ingenuity and how they did some of the things it amazing. Like the carvings, how long it would have taken for the pieces to fit together and now it still takes your breath away.” He said marvelling at it glad to have the time to spend looking at something like that to appreciate it. Kelle laughed as she looked the place over, admiring tapestries, sculptures and paintings. "I'd get to the very end of something and my hand would slip and mess it up, or I'd find out I miscalculated and was off by just a hair and have to start all over!" She really did admire artists, having little talent herself in that vein. Her room was more than she could have wished for...while it wasn't elaborate or ornate, it fit perfectly with the castle's medieval history. The walls were vaulted stone, one covered in a tapestry and another dominated by a fireplace. The bed was of heavy walnut, covered on a simple spread and wall sconces held lights that resembled candles. Kelle was too excited to nap, although she took advantage of the opportunity to lounge in a bubble bath before getting dressed for dinner. The red dress was as elegant and wonderful as she'd remembered, and even with the simple black ballet slippers she felt like a princess. To that end, atop the loose French braid that she'd put her hair in was a rhinestone tiara, a playful joke to fit the castle setting. And as she walked downstairs to the grand dining hall she felt like she was in a dream. It wasn't the first time, of course, but this time it was a good dream... Scott Cooper

Scott grinned, “I think we all would, I mean to imagine having to start all of this over again because of one slip. Ouch that would have to be a tough call.” It was bad enough when things went wrong but to think that you could get so far and then end up having to redo it all. Scott couldnt even begin to imagine that frustration or the annoyance that would come with it. When he got to his room it was very castle like, the bare stone walls and the lighting that just added to the whole feel of it. For a moment it felt like he might have stepped back in time for a moment though the fire place, the bed it was amazing as he tried not to act like he was ten years old on his first castle trip of his life. He settled down for a moment or two trying to get his thoughts together from the past few days as his eyes scanned around the room. Getting dressed for dinner he guessed was the easier part of being a guy, he had showered and made every effort to appear presentable, aftershave and all. He considered waiting by Kelle’s door but then he didnt want to appear like he was stalking her as he made his way downstairs to wait for her in the grand dining hall. It was like stepping onto a movie set but this wasnt a movie or a dream as he waited to see Kelle again in that dress. He pulled on his collar a little as he straightened his bowtie for the tenth time. It was then he caught sight of her walking downstairs. He knew he wasnt the only one staring at her but then he didnt care about anyone else but her as he tried not to stand with his mouth open for too long. He made his way over to her as smiled. Oh my wow he thought trying not to let that come out of his mouth. “You look more and more beautiful each time I see you Kelle.” He said smiling still as he held out his arm for her. “You really do look fabulous, amazing and I love the tiara.” He added as he glanced at her hardly believing that she could look even better than the first time he had seen her in the dress as he couldnt help but stare for a moment. Smiling almost giddily, Kelle did a quick twirl, the layers of red skirt swirling around her, before taking his arm, her step light. He was a handsome man, she had never had any question about that, but with him all decked out in the tux, well, if she had dreamed of a Prince Charming, he would be it! "Thank you," she murmured with a blush, "I'm sorry I didn't think about getting you a tiara, too...well, a crown,I guess, but you are regal without one." Then she laughed, shaking off her embarrassment. "You're a knight, anyway, and that's better than King, you can leave the castle and ride on a grand horse! Heck, even a princess has to behave, sit around and do needlepiont and play the harp...I envy the knight!" She glanced at him with a grin. "But there's always dancing!" Not like she really knew anything much about formal dancing, but she was hopeful that she could fake it! Then her eyes met his and the tint returned to her cheeks, although she didn't look away. Watching her twirl and smile took his breath away as he watched her, she was beautiful before that evening but there was something about her that had him captivated entirely. She was a princess he was sure, not out of place on a movie set or a red carpet it was hard to think that wasnt her day job as he listened trying to say something that didnt involved picking his jaw off the floor. “Oh I dont know what I’ll do now, was counting on the tiara for the night.” He said with a slight frown before he grinned at her. “Thank you though but I’ve nothing on you.” He said as he bowed to her for a moment. Honestly he could have been a thousand miles away from anywhere and still thought she was a princess. “Yeah I think I’d like being a knight, get to wear the cool outfit and sword fight and walk like a robot. What more could a guy want?” He said grinning, “Then again you’re a pretty awesome knight yourself, you get to go and save peoples lives so that it pretty great for a princess knight.” Scott smiled and nodded, yes there was always dancing. Formal dancing he had been taught in school and then his family but he hadn’t really had much cause to put it into practice. It wasnt like he could generally ask for a dance mid kidnapping though now he knew Kelle a little better he might have done. Scott gazed at her for a moment seeing the tint in her cheeks, he didnt want to look away from her as he smiled. “There is always dancing and dancing is good fun, especially with a princess like you.” He said. "Oh, you say that until I tromp on your foot and break your toes!" Kelle laughed, walking along with him to the long, polished walnut table that dominated the room, noting that there was no one else here and wondering if that was merely because it was off-season and they were the only guests at the moment, or if it was by Scott's doing. Of course, it helped with the ambience not to have people in neon pink texting through the mean, and with the fireplace and actual candles on the mantles and tables, as well as the primitive chandeliers over head providing the only light, the setting was perfect, with little to reminder of the present. And she didn't want to know if Scott had had a hand in this -- she was content to believe that he did, that he'd gone even more out of his way to make this special for her...for them. It was more fun for it to be a mystery...to just be what it was. "This is..." Well, she was out of adjectives, but she suddenly found herself wondering if she could live like this, go from her simple, down-to-earth (Poor) lifestyle and embrace something like this all the time. Of course, she was getting waaay ahead of herself here, she needed to just relax and enjoy it all for what it was, no strings, no notions. Her smile widened as a few of the staff came into the room, dressed in Renaissance period costume. If there really was a way to travel back in time, they were going to do that here. "You make an amazing knight," she declared, kissing him on the cheek, "and really, what I do isn't all that..." Pink tinged her cheeks. Most of her job was just giving rides to people, but yes, on occasion she did something that made a difference, or went into situations that were potentially dangerous, but that was 'just' part of the job. "Besides, when the shooting started at the ball, you were right there, helping out...I admire that, you don't have training, you were out of your element, but there you were." Scott Cooper
