"Horses? Really?"
At her grin Cal chuckled nodded "You have a horse?" "We have several, but one of them is mine yes" Cal confirmed glancing at her. "I love to ride, I clean stalls at the PD stables in exchange for riding time. Man, I wish I could have my own horse, that would just be amazing! But there's a couple that I really like and..."Cal had to laugh when she stopped herself from continuing to ramble "You're more than welcome to go say Hi to mine, but they're over in Texas. I might get my brother to bring Storm down though, maybe" He knew there was a place or two he could board Storm and plus he missed riding. And with the weather changing in Texas he wanted to see if he could ease the load of horses they had to look after, Storm was his so he had to be responsible right?. "Just my luck that the rain stops after I hitch a ride!"
Cal grinned and shrugged, he didn't mind! "Turn left here, it's the apartments on the right."
Obediently Cal took the turning then pulled over where she had indicated, reaching into his pocket he pulled out a contact card "If you ever get caught out again, or just want a riding partner" he said chuckling. (Maybe we could do something with horses? Just had a mad idea ... idk why )

Alex was a bit disappointed that his horses were in Texas...that must be horrible, to have horses but not have them! And honestly, she had kind of been hoping to maybe strike some sort of deal with him.
As they pulled up to the apartments she took his card, glancing at it before shoving it in her pocket. "That'd be great, I'd love it!" She'd have a chance in the mean time to let her dad know, and, of course, be sure it was all right with him.
She got out and as she was waiting for him to get the bike, she thanked him. "I really appreciate this. So, is there somewhere around here you ride?" The bad part of being in a city, besides all the people and buildings, was that you had to drive a ways to get to any place that you could really ride.

Cal could see she was a little disappointed that they were in Texas, he was too - he really missed Storm, he really wanted to ride, he rode other horses but he preferred his own faithful steed.
"That'd be great, I'd love it!"
Cal gave a nod "And your dad can check me out if he wants" he said with a wink before getting out the car himself
"I really appreciate this. So, is there somewhere around here you ride?"
"I ride at Glen Grove" he replied as he worked on getting the bike out of the back of his car and glanced at her "Tell you what" he marked a pause as he pulled the bike loose and placed it down beside him and looked at Alexis "My brothers probably gonna be on the road next week with his, I'll get him to bring Storm to Glen Grove" he closed the trunk and regarded her "If it's okay with your dad I don't see why you can't go say hello, Storm loves Glen Grove so he won't mind being there" he had brought Storm down only twice to Chicago but after becoming so busy he'd not had a chance to bring him down again.
As he moved away from the car he held the bike beside him as he placed one hand into his trouser pocket.
((Glen Grove in Chicago actually exists xD ))

"I ride at Glen Grove"
"Oh, yeah, I've heard of that...they've got a good reputation." Alex nodded. "I've ridden at Freedom Woods a couple times, it's beautiful out there." Of course, all the trees and open space, of course it was nicer that being in the big city!
"Tell you what" he marked a pause as he pulled the bike loose and placed it down beside him and looked at Alexis "My brothers probably gonna be on the road next week with his, I'll get him to bring Storm to Glen Grove"
"Oh, wow, that would be great!" For him, of course, because she knew that if she had a horse she'd want it where she could visit and ride every day...all day!
"If it's okay with your dad I don't see why you can't go say hello, Storm loves Glen Grove so he won't mind being there"
"I'd love that!" Grinning brightly, she took control of her bike, easily cradling the kitten on one arm. "You must miss him a lot...I know I would. I'd love to be able to live on a ranch and be around animals all day..." She shrugged. "Some day! Thanks again for your help."

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Alexis had said she was going to be home almost half an hour ago. He had tried calling and tried texting and got no response. That child. Did she not understand how important picking up the phone was sometimes? People wondered why he had grey hair. His daughter was proof enough when she did things like this. His mind jumped to every worst scenario possible. No. She was okay. She had to be right? Michael. Stop. Being. A. Worrier. Ha. Yeah like that was going to happen anytime soon. Michael worried about any and everything that could go wrong. That was his way of things, sometimes he could be the pessimist when he was frightened. He had half a mind to give Alexis a piece of his mind when she did venture in the door. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

"Oh, yeah, I've heard of that...they've got a good reputation." "I've ridden at Freedom Woods a couple times, it's beautiful out there." Oh yeah Freedom woods, Cal couldn't deny that place was good too - He gave a nod
"Oh, wow, that would be great!" "I'd love that!"
Cal smirked holding out hands for the bike "Let me help" he said softly - he wasn't going to let her carry both kitten and bike in alone, plus - he wasn't the type to leave young people let alone young girls alone in the evenings.
"You must miss him a lot...I know I would. I'd love to be able to live on a ranch and be around animals all day..."
Cal smiled nodding before chuckling at her last statement "If you don't mind the 4am wakeup calls" he mused - now that he was working full time the visits to the ranch wore him out - he was used to it but it was still exhausting.
"Some day! Thanks again for your help."
Cal smirked giving her a nod before taking the bike and indicating her to lead the way in - he wasn't going to take no for an answer, besides - what kind of person would her dad think he was if he allowed her to carry bike and kitten alone into an apartment block.
(Feel free to lead the way - and sorry for the delay)

Alex let the way to the elevator, understanding that he was only being a gentleman, it was something that her dad had taught her -- how a man should treat a lady, opening doors and whatnot, and that a lady should respect and appreciate that. It was the sign of a good guy and something she'd look for when the time came.
And she was beginning to realize, especially from the looks she was getting, that unless Dad wasn't home she was going to be explaining the dirty clothes and scraped up arms, not to mention the man that was with her. Oh, well, she hadn't done anything wrong, right? But still, her dad was pretty protective and that made him tend to overreact.
"Elevators are here...we're on the third floor." The building was nice, the neighbors were great, but Alex wished they lived in a house with at least a yard. But she understood the need, and made the best of it.
"I hope I didn't take you away from what you were doing," she commented, and then a smile lit her face as they arrived on her floor and stepped off the elevator.. "Hey, I made some snickerdoodles yesterday if you want a couple...you know, a reward."
And then there was her dad, in the hallway.
"Um, hi Dad! This is...Cal..." Well, he should be 'Mister Fill-in-the-Blank', only she couldn't remember his last name!

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes When Alexis came up the hall he was standing there with a look of disapproval on his face. He had come outside to wait for her as she did when she was late. She was late. One thing Michael did not do well was being late. Though he noticed that she was soaking wet and looked like she'd been through an ordeal. The disapproval look turned into one of concern. "Alexis Rebecca Meriton" his tone was one he used when he wanted an explanation. Michael never jumped to conclusions right away. If he did that there would be many a people in his wake, especially when it came to his daughter. When she introduced Cal by his first name there was a furrowed brow of confusion. He looked between the two. "And he is?" It was most definitely a question. It was clear that Michael was not thrilled with whatever was going on at the moment from his point of view. Michael could have a temper but it was never directed at his daughter. There were hints of it though boiling underneath, at least to those who knew him. Though he wasn't so much angry at her as he was disappointed. ✄ Alexis Wheeler, @cal I can't remember what you said her middle name was. I think I remember you saying it was her mom's first name. "Alexis Rebecca Meriton"
"Um, hi Dad! This is...Cal..." Cal had placed the bike quickly against the wall and was already reaching for his ID in his inner jacket pocket - he usually always carried it with him - you never knew when you might need it, he remembered the first time he rendered aid to someone in the middle of the night, a young cop, off duty and with no ID he'd been mistaken for one of the men attacking a woman, after a lengthy interrogation the mixup was realised and since then he'd carried his ID with him at all times - no way was he getting mixed up again.
"And he is?"
"Sergeant Borden, Chicago PD" he said showing his ID "Or as she said, Cal" he jumped in, realising that Alexis had forgotten his surname "Your daughter, Alexis had a little incident on her way home, it was raining so I figured I'd give her a ride - Officer" he added finally recognising him from around the PD sometimes.
He knew she'd probably get a million and one questions but he knew it was better to tell the truth.

"Yes, sir, that." Alex niddedm although inside she was cringing at the use of her full name -- that either meant that she was in BIG trouble, or worse, her dad was really worried about her. "It was raining pretty hard when I was coming back from the vet's office...a dog ran out at me and I crashed. I'm not hurt," she added hastily, "and Mr. Borden stopped. There's blue light on his car..."
Of course, these days anyone could buy a blue light that distinguished police from other emergency services on ebay, but it was rare, especially in town.
"Then he said he was an officer with CPD, and..." 'Did you ask for ID?' Alex could hear her dad and she winced...she should have, but it had been raining and she was worried about...
"MEW! MEW!"
Yeah, that...
It was a good thing she didn't have a dog, or she'd likely be spending the night in its house!
"And, um...I brought a kitten..." Looking hopefully at her dad, she pulled the little bedraggled thing from her jacket.

i'd say show me but that would come out all kinds of wrong. i have to say they didn't exactly partner me with a male too hard on the eyes Michael raised a brow. Cal? Yeah well he knew his daughter was hardly great with names but manners had had taught her. Alexis was given a sideways look. He looked towards the Sergeant and gave him just a small nod of appreciation for at least explaining who he was since his seventeen year old was having issues spitting it out. There were times that Alexis was too much like her mother for her own good. "Alex you are a walking disaster area" he pointed out. He meant it light heartedly but he was worried about her. Anything could have happened! Michael worried about her. He was a single dad raising a teenager who didn't seem to realize sometimes that things had consequences. "Thank you Sergeant" he said politely as he reached for Alexis to pull her into a hug. He was disappointed in her yes, but he was also worried about her. It was sometimes difficult to walk the line being an only parents. He had to step up for a mother who wasn't in Alexis' life and at the same time be the one to tell her off when she didnt something stupid. Blue lights? Really Alexis blue lights? "We have had the blue light discussion before. That's all I am going to say about that young lady" he gave his one eyed look of disapproval. What if something had happened? He was about to say something again when he heard the cat. "MEW! MEW!" Yeah, that cat. Kitten, whatever she wanted to call it. He just sighed when she said she had a kitten. His daughter was an animal lover. That he was not going to hold that against her. "You and your animals..." that was all he could think to say about that. Arguing over her about a kitten that needed a home. Yeah like that was about to happen. MADE BY VEL OF GS + ADOXOGRAPHY 2.0

"Yes, sir, that." "Alex you are a walking disaster area" "Thank you Sergeant" Cal gave a simple nod of acceptance "It was raining pretty hard when I was coming back from the vet's office...a dog ran out at me and I crashed. I'm not hurt," Cal glanced at her, not hurt was good - she’d been lucky "and Mr. Borden stopped. There's blue light on his car..." Cal shook his head slowly - yeah no, that was not a good reply, he shot a sideways glance at the officer "We have had the blue light discussion before. That's all I am going to say about that young lady" Cal sighed, sometimes he had to admit, he missed his parents being around to scold him like that "And, um...I brought a kitten..." "You and your animals..." The kitten was probably hungry by now, he looked again to Michael, expectantly.

((I'm so sorry I dropped the ball on this!))
Well, at least her dad hadn't outright told her she couldn't have the kitten there, and it was only for a couple of days, right? He'd fall in love with the little thing like she had, she was certain.
Turning back to Cal, she smiled up at him, her hair still dripping a bit. For a moment she was tempted to invite him to stay for coffee or something, after all, if they had company, it might stall off the yelling that was about to happen, but then, it wouldn't be very nice to put Cal into that position. Instead, she said, "Thank you so much for helping me, I really appreciate it. And I'd be happy to go riding with you sometime...if Dad will let me?" She then glanced at her father expectantly. "Mr. Borden likes riding horses, too."
