She wasn't sure if the nausea was from nerves or the fact that she hadn't eaten in nearly ten hours, but Kelle wasn't willing to risk eating and puking, nor was she willing to admit that she was really that upset by what had happened -- after all, it was just the fluke of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, no one was dead, she was all right. In fact, the part that really had her upset was the upcoming hours of paperwork and answering questions. Really, she just wanted to go home and hide under the covers!
Of course, that wasn't an option, she had to answer the questions, first to Chief Boden, then to PD, and she had to fill out the incident reports, there was no avoiding that, and in all honesty, the Chief had been very sweet and supportive, thrilled that she was unharmed, but she still wouldn't mind some moral support.
At first, though, she hesitated to call Steven, it was only 0300 or so, but then she found out that he'd already been contacted about her disappearance, and he was likely a little worried, so calling wouldn't be an imposition, right? And if it was, well, tough!
In the relative isolation of the chief's office, Kelle dialed Steven's number, still a little uncertain, and wondering if he'd answer, since he'd recognize the call as coming from the office, so possibly an emergency mandate request to come to work...

Steven was worried sick as he drove around in his car, he was called in the minute they knew Kelle was in trouble sitting at home and staying put was never going to happen. He had found out where she was supposed to be and sure half the cops were looking for her but then a paramedic was as he drove around trying to find just one sign of her. He knew that when there was one medic on their own chances were raised of them being a target but not his partner and not when he was off shift. He swore once she was found that he would yell at her for taking an extra shift though to do that he needed to know where she was.
It seemed to take forever as he made his way back toward the fire house. His radio was there, at least then he could monitor progress he thought, that was until he felt his phone going. Steven knew it was a bad idea to answer it while driving but the minute he saw the caller ID, there was no stopping him. “Did you find her yet? Chief what do you want me to do? I’m not working a shift until she’s back.” Steven stated figuring from the caller ID it was Boden and he would be asking for a request to come in to work.
He could yell at Kelle later but right now all he wanted to know was that she was somewhere safe, with a cop or ten, or with fifty one where he knew things were mainly safe. Steven took a breath as he knew he was a few blocks away from work and yes it was the early morning but who cared what time it was when his partner was missing. It could have been any time of day and he would have done anything but driving around, he had seen no sign of her anywhere he had checked.

It was something stupid, probably very much a 'girl thing', but a few times in her life, Kelle had thought that she was very much in control and was dealing with things well, and then a friendly voice tipped the scales and the tears wouldn't stay back, nor the blubbering... "Sttteeve...it's me....I'm okay but I...I...I need...can you...do you mind...crap!" She hated crying when there was no way to stop it! "I...I'm in Bo...Bo...Bode....Chief's office and I don't want to be....can you come?" It was a huge imposition, she knew, and she would owe him, but she didn't know who else to call. Steven Hudson

Steven waited to hear what the chief had to say, it was hardly the first time he had come to blows about work with a superior but then surely Boden would understand. “Kelle.” Steven said with a sigh of relief until he heard the familiar sound of tears and blubbering. He had two sisters so he knew what tears sounded like. Even hearing that she was okay, it took away the million things he had in his mind that had happened to her.
“I don’t mind.” Steven said wondering what it was she was going to ask him to do. At least she was in the fire house, the safest place on earth as far as Steven was concerned as he turned at the light and started to head back. “I’m there, give me three minutes... maybe two and half but I’ve no sirens so I’ll be there as soon as I can. Just stay where you are.” Steven explained wishing he had sirens as he made a jump at the lights and could hear a sole car horn blare at his given driving style.
Hardly any traffic given the time of night but still there was always one guy who had to make his feelings known to the world. Steven rolled his eyes as he saw the familiar streets leading up to the fire house. “Are you okay? What happened out there?” Steven asked, his hands on the wheel as he kept driving. Unable to help himself from asking those very questions over the phone. He at least wanted to know she was okay unless she needed the hospital but then she would have been there already he thought if she did.

Kelle took a big breath, trying to calm her nerves, then muttered, "Shouldn't be on the phone while you're driving, you know." There was still a stutter to her voice, but it was a bit more controlled now. Sniffling, she wiped her eyes on her sleeve, then sniffled. "Steve, I'm slobbering all over Boden's phone, I'd better hang up." He'd be here soon anyway, the story could wait, and maybe she could get him to bargain with the cops for her. Reluctantly, she hung up the phone, but she didn't want to start crying again. Drawing her knees up the her chest, she sat in the chair, staring at the papers that she was supposed to be filling out, but really not interested at the moment. Steven Hudson,

Steven laughed, “Sure I’ll get off the phone then but it’s good to hear your voice.” Steven admitted having thought gradually worse as the evening had gone on. Even hearing that her voice was more controlled now, she was safe and in Boden’s office. The best place to be if you were in need of help as he heard her sniff on the phone.
Hanging up Steven weaved his way through the last few turns as he pulled up to the fire house. Pulling up outside he made his way inside, his phone still clutched in his hand as he wanted to see that Kelle was okay for himself. Usually a trip to the office meant he was in trouble but right then he hardly cared what trouble he was in. Steven threw open the door as he saw Kelle there, her knees against her chest as she sat in the chair. “Kelle.” He gasped happy to see her there in one piece. “Are you alright? Did anyone check you out? Do you need the hospital?” Steven said unsure as to why she was sitting in the office and not dragged to the hospital to be checked over.
Without much of a thought Steven threw his arms around Kelle, she had scared him half to death with disappearing like that on him. There was no chance he was giving up his partner to some crazy on the street and he knew now there was no working alone for her.

“Sure I’ll get off the phone then but it’s good to hear your voice.”"Yeah, you, too..." It was kind of creepy, she thought, that she was reaching out to and clinging to someone she hardly knew, but then Kelle figured she knew enough about him to know it wasn't an issue for him. “Kelle.”"Oh, hey, Steven." Unfolding, she started to sit up, a slow smile spreading over her face as she felt a surge of comfort at seeing someone she knew. “Are you alright? Did anyone check you out? Do you need the hospital?”"No, really, I'm fi..." She had started to stand when she was engulfed in a huge embrace and she relented, leaning into it, finally letting out all the emotions she'd been holding back, although she managed not to actually cry. "I'm fine," she finally managed to finish, pushing back and gathering herself. "He didn't hurt me, he just needed help with someone who was injured..." Letting out a long sigh, she shrugged. "I was scared, but I did what he said and...and I'm going to be in so much trouble." Steven Hudson,

Steven barely minded coming into work or being the voice on the end of a phone. He would have been more upset if she had chosen someone else to talk to about it all but right then. All Steven wanted was to know that she was okay and safe, getting taken from work usually meant bad things for a paramedic. Easy targets around the city and they had training to save a life when usually the life saving was up to no good.
Not that he judged but then a simple call to 911 would be enough to get help there. “Hey.” He added seeing the slow smile she had. He had a million and one questions, he guessed just like everyone else but hearing that she was fi, that word really did annoy him. Sure he used it ten thousand times a day but fine was hardly something that flew with him when you had been taken from your car.
“Fine no one would be fine after that.” Steven stated as he listened to her tell him that the guy never hurt her. “Oh really, because I’d say taking you from that car was hurting you. I hope they find the guy and hang him from his toes for this.” He almost yelled trying to look over Kelle without actually doing it as he usually would.
“You’re not the one in trouble here; whoever this idiot is that took you is the one in trouble.” He explained trying not to worry too much. “Are you sure you’re alright? Did you get a good look at the guy? What about the guy you helped? See him?” Steven asked his mind jumping into the fact that Kelle had likely seen more than they wanted.

"He was wearing a mask," Kelle muttered, "I could see his eyes, of course, but that's all...I did see the guy...the victim." She sighed, staying still, allowing Steven to fuss over her, after all she'd called him for that very reason. "We went to those warehouses over off Zeff, you know, the old Tri-Valley place. "I promised to keep my eyes closed, but he really didn't seem to care what I saw." There was so much more...She sighed and looked up at him wearily. "You're important here, right?" At that, she gave him a bit of a grin. "At least you say so...I know they all want to interview me -- the cops, Boden -- and that's cool, but do you think that you can get them to let you do it? Ask the questions, I mean." She didn't mind answering them, and didn't think that they would grill her, but she just thought it would 'feel' better talking to Steven, and she wanted to just do it once. "At least be there with me?" But she did hate asking, it made her feel weak. "Man, this part is almost more scary than the actual thing." Steven Hudson

Steven nodded listening to Kelle talk about the man wearing a mask, Steven knew exactly what he wanted to do with that mask but still. Kelle was back but her kidnapper was still out there. “Yeah been there a few times, not much around there but space.” Steven added nodding as he was unsure if a guy not caring what she saw was a good or bad thing. Bad as far as he knew, what did you do with the witness that saw too much?
Yeah they all knew that answer. “Important... Lead medic if that counts but I wouldn’t go that far.” He said, grinning right back at her when he saw her grin. “Sure, I can do that. No one is going to talk to you but me okay. You don’t have to worry about it... well maybe you need to talk to Boden later but right now, just me okay.” Steven said, it was the least he could do given he felt guilty for not running a shift with her.
Well that was the last time she went out on her own, Steven might not do the planning for the house but he could plead the case for Kelle not to be sent out on the QRV shifts, ever. “I’m right there with you okay, partner’s right?” He added, reaching out to tuck a stray piece of hair behind her ear. “This part is the least scary part, you’ve got me here and I’ll ask whatever they want me to but it’s just me okay. Beside I thought you had me trained to be a puppy dog?” He joked.

“Sure, I can do that. No one is going to talk to you but me okay. You don’t have to worry about it... well maybe you need to talk to Boden later but right now, just me okay.”
Taking a breath, Kelle nodded. "Thanks." She hated appearing 'weak', but this was something completely outside her realm of experience, and she just wanted someone there to advocate for her...she'd keep it together until she got home, throw a fit in private then carry on.
“I’m right there with you okay, partner’s right?”
"Right, like it or not." She managed a teasing grin. "Looks like you're stuck with me, darn the luck!" She was starting to relax some, but really, a good shot of espresso would make her happy about now.
“This part is the least scary part, you’ve got me here and I’ll ask whatever they want me to but it’s just me okay. Beside I thought you had me trained to be a puppy dog?” He joked.
"If that was true you would have fetched me some of that chocolate-covered bacon!" Her grin faded to a frown as a detective came into the room.
"Ms. Lindsay?"
"Miss..." That was kind of an odd pet-peeve of hers. "But, yeah, that's me." She braced herself for the upcoming session, knowing it was necessary but hoping it wasn't.
"Miss Lindsay," the officer corrected, "we have some questions, of course. We've found your unit, and the suspect's car."
"Good." There was a lot more, she knew, she'd been able to tell them where she'd been taken, so they would have likely gotten there and searched the place...and probably hadn't found much of anything.
"So, I need to talk to you." The detective looked at Stephen. "Alone..."

Steven had never considered Kelle weak at all; in fact it took a stronger person to ask for help than it did just to carry one. It was the great thing about fifty one, sometimes there was no need to even ask though this was a little outside of what the normal helping each other out consisted of. “Well I mean the kidnapping was totally my idea but since that didn’t scare you off I’ve no idea what will.” Steven said in very bad humour but then again you had to laugh about it or cry and laughing was preferable.
“I know, darn it.” He said with a sigh as he smirked listening to her talk about the least scary part. “Ouch well how about I take you for chocolate covered bacon afterwards? Wanted to make sure it was fresh for when you decided to turn up again otherwise it’s just bacon and chocolate mush.” He said trying to reason why he had none of it with him. If he thought it would help he would have bought as much of it as he could.
The moment Steven heard Ms. The world seemed to turn official as he glanced at the detective that came into the room. He figured they would have a million questions but Kelle had asked him to be there and ask them so that was exactly what he would do or attempt to even if he had to be a pain in the butt to the CPD.
Steven raised his brow when the detective said alone. “Yeah... that’s not going to be happening detective.” Steven explained trying to be polite about it. “If you’ve questions, write them down, I’ll ask them and I’ll let you know what Miss Lindsay tells me. She isn’t leaving my sight since you haven’t caught the suspect.” Steven added deciding to at least get that point across.
No suspect caught then the danger was still there and yes he knew that being with her every second of everyday was impossible. For that night he could do his best to stick with her and not let her out of his sight for at least a week if not more.

"Oh, so this was all a conspiracy to keep me as a partner?" Kelle chuckled, appreciating the humor that was putting her more at ease. "And yeah, I'm not too keen on mushy baconlate...or is it chocoacan?" She grinned, then relaxed in relief as Steven took over for her, not that she was thrilled at the thought of her second interrogation in such a short amount of time. The first questions were easy, name, birth date, address, service record, then came specifics... The man tapping on her window with a gun, his demand that she go with him to give aid to a shooting victim, her protest that she couldn't do surgery, his telling her to come along anyway, then taking the equipment they'd need, leaving anything trackable, like her cell, the portable radio and pagers...Then she gave his description as best she could, considering it was dark and she was just a little scared... She could see that the detective was scribbling furiously in a notebook so she paused, waiting for specific questions from him...and Steven...before she continued. Steven Hudson

“Yeah, I mean I’m surprised you never worked that out sooner you know but if we have to be creative here to keep one, then I’ve got to at least try.” Steven said with a smile, happy to hear her chuckle given that he was unsure if she was even coming back not too long ago. “Oooh Chocoacan sounds good to me.” Steven added grinning as he knew the detective was going to be unhappy with him but who cared.
He was looking out for his partner. Steven listened to what happened which made him angry that anyone thought they had the right to just pluck a medic from their car. He hoped the CPD got their hands on him and he could get even one minute alone with the guy. “Did he give you a name or was there anything specific about him?” Steven asked Kelle not really sure how to interrogate someone but then it had to be similar to looking for symptoms to check.
Symptoms lead to a cause and in that case the cause was a guy he wanted to kill for pulling this stunt. “Was there an accent or a limp?” Steven added having no idea but then again anything more she could add would help. “So what kind of shape was this guys victim in anyway?” Steven asked wondering if they could track the guy Kelle had patched up. Maybe he had further details that could add in to who the man was.

"Did he give you a name or was there anything specific about him?”"Oh, right..." Kelle let out a breath, she'd forgotten about that. "Said his name was Russell, but I don't think that was really it..." Since, yeah, it would be stupid to give your true name if you a criminal. “Was there an accent or a limp?”"No, no, not really...I mean, he moved well, didn't have any problem with that." For a moment, she closed her eyes, thinking. "No accent, either, but he was well-spoken, I mean, good grammar, used big words, that sort of thing." Which meant that he had an education, and likely some sort of training, but then, she'd had that impression the whole time...this wasn't some two-bit criminal, so there might be a record of him, and as funny as that sounded, the prospect of seeing him in a book sort of scared her. “So what kind of shape was this guys victim in anyway?”"Well, he was well enough to get up and try to attack us when we got there, "Kelle explained, "but then he collapsed from hypovolemia...Um...Russell said that the guy had resisted him -- go figure, resisting being kidnapped -- and he'd gotten shot in the scuffle." One of the reasons she hadn't fought... "Anyway, he had a gunshot wound on his side...." she indicated the area on her own flank, "lost some blood, but I gave him a liter of saline and patched him up..." Hastily, she added, "And no, I didn't really see him." She looked at Steven, her voice falling to a whisper. "I didn't look at him, I didn't want to see him because I was afraid if I did, Russell might..." Well, that was implied. Steven Hudson,
