In his previous line of work, you learned to operate with far less. He'd managed to grab a few minutes here and there, as the night shift portion of the detail kept the house secure. It was still his job to protect Evan and Vanessa – he couldn't do that if he was asleep. The moment Cam thought he couldn't reliably do that job any more, he would relinquish command to one of the others. "You don't need to worry about me, Jackie. I know my limits." As Cam wrapped Jackie up in his arms, he flashed Evan a look that spoke volumes. The young man needed to get back to bed and be with Vanessa. As soon as Cam saw Evan get up and wander towards the bedroom, he planted a chaste kiss on Jackie's lips. Under the current circumstances, as much as his wife wanted to stay and keep an eye on everyone's wellbeing, this was the best decision for all parties involved. But Cam also knew how close Jackie and Evan were – going to work and focusing wouldn't be easy for her. "I'll make sure the two of them are safe." Evan was used to being mothered by Jackie. It was almost like having a second mom at times. Between her and now Cam, he was fighting a losing battle. So, rather than fight it, he'd acquiesced, leaving the two of them behind to talk. [attr="class","Jackienert"]Jackie watched as Evan wandered off after his own spouse. One thing she could do was read people to a point. He was worried, and it was showing. Not that she expected any differently but Jackie was worried about everyone but herself. That was par for the course. “You know that’s not going to be an acceptable response.” Jackie replied as a finger traced his neck. She gave a small smile, it was hard but someone had to keep spirits up during all of this.

Jackie noticed how Cameron was acting. Reassuring her, and protective of the Cross’. Jackie nodded. “I know… I just you know I worry.” Sure she could stay back but she didn’t think that it was a good idea to let out that life wasn’t exactly normal back home. This was frustrating. She hugged Cameron as she reached around him for the coffee she’d set on the counter.

There was so much she wanted to ask still and so much she wanted to just make go away but she knew that was asking for a miracle. She looked up at Cameron as she maneuvered her coffee around from behind without spilling any. A well practiced morning tango she’d grown accustomed to.

You didn't always know when you'd get the opportunity again. He wasn't an Operator now, but he easily fell back into that old training. You got pushed to the brink then, so you could succeed moving forward. Jackie didn't know the details of his work, mostly because she preferred not to know. The rest was classified. He kept the explanation brief. "I've run on less sleep before." Cam planted a small kiss on her cheek. He wasn't the only one with a job to do, but he had the security in place to keep Evan and Jackie safe. These were good people – highly trained – and he trusted each of them implicitly. It meant, right now, that they could direct their attention elsewhere and Jackie could at least try to stop worrying, if only for a few minutes. "Let's focus on getting you ready for work." Chuckling as Jackie deftly retrieved her morning supply of coffee, Cam reached for his own cup. The two of them performed this dance often, but not usually with so much company around.
