[attr="class","Mianert"]“I am allowed to worry about you too.” The truth of the matter was, the two were not just friends but best friends. More than that Mia was in love with Liam. There was no bond stronger. “You were in the same explosion.” Okay so maybe she was pointing out the obvious, but she had a point. Given then explosion, she was allowed to worry about him.

Mia didn’t want to know who knew about the incident. Though judging by the looks of this it wasn’t an accident. “This wasn’t an accident was it?” Mia hadn’t heard any news, but she had a feeling if her brother got a hold of this it would be over. Of course there was going to be a report on Julian’s desk ASAP. She knew that there would be no stalling. They’d probably have an answer for Julian before he even called them to find out what was going on.

Mia had no doubt that someone had called her brother, but really she didn’t want to face having to tell him what she remembered. Just like she didn’t want to tell the detectives what happened. But she knew in the end, she was going to have to spit it all out.

[attr="class","Liamright"] At least Mia was awake now. It was the proof Liam need that maybe things really were okay. Even so, Liam felt helpless. They'd been attacked where they worked, somewhere they should have been safe, and they didn't even know who was responsible! No doubt, when Julian arrived, he would have all the answers – he usually did. In these types of situations, if Julian didn't have the answers, he was darn sure going to make sure he got them. Mia's brother was like that. Liam never would be – too shy and nervous and always tripping over himself. This attack made him feel small and vulnerable. It didn't surprise him that Mia was already worrying about him. Best friends did that. Now that Liam didn't have to juggle the police and a doctor, he could focus on what was really important: Mia. After a moment, he nodded, confirming her suspicious. It might have been an obvious question, under the circumstances, but when you woke up in a hospital, things had to be confusing. Liam continued holding her hand, never wanting to let go. "This wasn't an accident. Either someone was trying to get rid of evidence, or they wanted to kill someone – maybe one of us. I don't know." Liam glanced back over his shoulder. Despite the company, the detectives restricted themselves to observing the hallway. The closed door, at least, afforded them some additional privacy, but Liam was still tempted to close the blinds just in case Braden and Sharon weren't inclined to let them have a few moments to themselves. Confirming the fact that this wasn’t an accident had her unsettled, though she appreciated the truth. “Don’t tell my brother.” It wasn’t a question it was a statement, little did she realize that the statement she made came some days late. The last thing she wanted was Julian worrying about her, though she had a sinking feeling that her previous instincts were correct and that Julian already knew.

Mia followed Liam’s gaze. “They are still here?” She groaned lightly as she laid her head back down on the hospital bed. “Make them go away?” She was still not a fan of her babysitters from the police department. She barely remembered any of the conversations before she woke up here. Reaching up she played with the oxygen tubes connected to her nose. Her head still hurt a good bit.

“Can we turn the light off?” The light was bugging her head but she was feeling better. "Hoću da idem kući i da se odmorim. Kakve su vam šanse da mislite da će mi doktori dozvoliti?” She knew damned well that whatever the doctors said that Liam and Julian were going to make her follow to a T. So there was that.

[attr="class","Liamright"] "Um… about that." Mia was already out of luck. Julian, per his own request, was getting the latest reports the second each one came in. As Chicago's mayor, that was his prerogative, and he was taking advantage of that position now. Of course he was going to be concerned about his sister. "Braden – that's one of the Detectives waiting outside – told me the Chief of Police personally notified Julian. He's supposed to be on his way to the hospital, from what I understand." Liam shook his head. The two detectives wouldn't be leaving, but Mia knew that. Following the attack – because Liam needed to start calling it what it was – on the CPD lab, the Chief of Police had them locked down tight. Until this assailant was caught, he and Mia would be eating, breathing, and sleeping with the police keeping close watch. During this time, if questions about their closeness arose, their built-in excuse – best friends since childhood – would continue to serve them well. Julian might even be willing to vouch for them. In every single one of his dealings with Mia's doctor, she'd been a complete hardass. If Mia wanted out of the hospital, she was going to have to do it the old-fashioned way – through healing. Liam would be alongside her every step of the way. His subdued chuckle told the entire story. He'd had the distinct pleasure of dealing with this doctor while Mia had been unconscious. Now that she was awake, she would get a taste of that experience. He could at least turn off the light for her. "None. You're going to love your doctor. Mia groaned. “You know sometimes the Chief is a pain in the ass.” She knew her brother would have found out about things even if it had been from the 6o’clock news that night. Really she wouldn’t expect Julian to not be here at some point. Though she was hoping he had stopped by when she was unconscious, she was dreading that conversation.

There was a slight eye roll in knowing that the detectives were and still would be everywhere. No one liked babysitting at the police station and no one liked to be babysat. Mia was no exception, lucky her job description didn’t come with a babysitting tag attached. “Tu ide naš vikend koji smo planirali”¹

Mia just ignored the fact Liam was laughing about this. “ako niste izvukli zub? Čak i kao klinac, moja bi se izvukla.”² It easier to change the subject. Mia was the confident one between them; but even then her inner most insecurities were shown only to Liam. With Julian, she usually had up her bold front until he called her out on it. Mia knew how to take a steer by its horns at times. Right now though, she felt as vulnerable as ever. The only thing between her and someone after her was Liam and the detectives outside her door. As much as she loved Liam, she trusted the detectives more when it came to shooting someone who didn’t belong in the room.

This wasn't exactly the kind of thing you could keep quiet forever. Liam sighed. This was unfamiliar territory for him. It wasn't often that he played the voice of reason. "Pretty sure that the CPD CSI lab blowing up is all over the news right now. He was going to find out either way." As enjoyable as their weekend plans would have been, Liam preferred they both be safe. To that end, he could handle a few inconveniences. If the detectives began to intrude too much, those feelings might change. But with the blinds closed, he and Mia shared some privacy. They could put off their plans until all of this blew over. "I preferred to just kind of let them fall out on their own. You forget I don't like pain." Liam hadn't ever been shot or anything before -- he didn't want to be either. It couldn't be more fun than almost getting blown up. He plopped down on the hospital bed beside Mia. They'd both been lucky. Incredibly lucky. They'd made it through this mostly unscathed. [attr="class","Mianert"]“She didn’t just tell Julian, she’s the one that has tweedle dee and tweedle dum outside in the hallway.” She reminded him. Mia was in a hospital bed but she wasn’t stupid, she knew there would be officers outside still. If there weren’t, then Julian would be having words with the Chief she was certain. News media, ugh. No, that was the last thing that she wanted. So help her if they came around they were going to get an earful as to her right to privacy or whatever it was she could throw at them. They would need the CPD to get Mia off of them.

Mia didn’t want to think about things being worse. She was in a hospital bed and couldn’t go home. Tears threatened but she held them back. She pulled the oxygen supply off and set it aside. Mia wanted fresh air, not some compressed oxygen. The machine beeped but Mia didn’t seem to care, she was not going to put it back on and damn it she didn’t need it anymore. She needed to breathe on her own.

One thing Mia needed was to feel safe and hospitals didn’t seem safe to her. Her arms wrapped around Liam and she just hugged him. There wasn’t a quick chemical formula to fix all of this. She was sure there was going to be some series of tests she’d already undergone and some they would want to do when she was awake before discharging her. Usually, she didn’t like asking Julian for favors but maybe he speed things up a little by talking to someone when he got here. Though she doubted it. “I just want to go home.” She whispered to Liam.

If this... this criminal learned the attempt had failed, Liam didn't doubt for a second that he'd come back and try to finish the job. He could sense Mia's growing agitation with the entire situation, but there was only so much he could do. They had makeshift privacy thanks to the blinds and the officers were stationed in the hallway now. One thing he couldn't do was speed up her release paperwork. Liam climbed onto the hospital bed, lying down beside her. There wasn't a great deal of room available -- these beds weren't exactly designed for spacious comfort -- but he wasn't a very big person either. He could easily rest on his side and stay close to Mia. He wasn't really big on breaking the rules,  ut hopefully this was a decision which helped put her at ease."I won't tell if you don't." Julian might find them together, but he already knew what close friends they were. The rest of it -- including the dating -- wasn't common knowledge, even to her family. They'd just kind of accidently gotten together in college, then gotten jobs together, and things picked up from there.
