With all due respectAren't you going to reciprocate? Do I always have to talk sense into people?
[attr="class","nthlftsybdytxt1"]Martin guided Sofia into the hospital. He’d tried to get her to change her mind about coming, her dad was dangerous. Martin had one requirement and that was she stay well out of arm's reach. So help him if she stepped into reach of her father; he’d personally put space between the two. He heard a voice from the corner. “Sofia?” He didn’t recognize the man, so of course Martin was feeling rather protective. His girlfriend was already upset enough as it was. He didn’t need her to find more trouble. This was already difficult but he’d let Sofia handle this as she wished to handle it. Martin gave her that type of respect, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t keep a watchful eye.
“You are Doctor Austin, yes?” Tyler wasn’t sure if she would even recognize him after so many years had past and the man holding her was probably going to clock him. Martin was in such a stance that suggested his protectiveness.
Really didn’t Sofia have enough to deal with without whomever this was bugging her or something. No, maybe it was a patient who needed help or something. He had to think rationally. Then again, when had anything in Sofia’s life ever equalled out to rational?

Sofia was still in two minds about making the visit, it needed to be done for her own piece of mind and she had never been one to tell someone she hated them over the phone or in a letter. For this conversation it needed to be done face to face. It hardly made it any easier though which explained Martin’s one requirement. Sofia however was never one for requirements when it came to family, no if she was within arm’s reach then so be it because whatever came her way. She was sadly used to that sort of thing. Glancing at the man in the room her first thought was doctor but without the familiar white lab coat, scrubs or really any form of ID it was a far leap to think that. Cop maybe but then the familiar face or eyes to be more to the point had her stop dead in her tracks. Sofia was upset enough without this guy trying to add to her already crumbling state of mind. If she could have formed words she might have had a lot to say, if she screamed it would only attract the wrong kind of attention but the feeling of fear and nervousness in seeing her father. For a second Sofia stepped backwards straight into Martin, partially to know that he was there and half simply because she wanted to back track right out of that room. It was blown out of the water by the anger she felt towards both parties in that room if she was right in her assumption. Sofia did her best to stop the anger from spreading to her face but that was a lost cause as she glared daggers towards the man. “Yes I am she and this is a private room. You should leave right now before I ask security to remove you. There are other doctors on call to help you today. Sir.” Sofia snapped not sure what else she could say as she tried to hedge her bets. Brother, well yes he would get more than the sharp end of her tongue and a patient well then a bad day could be explained away. Though if she was right, the entire sentence annoyed her intensely. Doctor Austin was that all he had as she tried to place the face to make sure it was really him. Her words were true, it was a private room and who was her brother if it was him. The same eyes yes but then it had been too many years to count since he left so she could see how it could be wishful thinking. She had done that a time or two before. Josie had been silent during the entire visit. She knew that Tyler's relationship with his father was far from being great, and that he didn't want her or the kids to ever go near the man. However, Josie wasn't about to let her husband do this alone. So she had gone with him, offering a silent support. That silence didn't last long though when Martin and Sofia walked in. At first, Josie had been confused as to who they were until Tyler asked the woman if she was Dr. Sofia Austin. Then it sunk in, and Josie understood. This woman was Tyler's sister, and the man was probably her boyfriend or husband. Getting up from where she was sitting, Josie stood beside Tyler and looked at both Sofia and Martin. "Dr. Austin, neither of us are a patient" she explained calmly. The last thing Josie needed to do was make the situation worse by snapping or going off on her husband's sister. That wouldn't get any of them anywhere. "We're actually family. That's why we're here" Josie continued. She wasn't sure what kind of response that would get, but Josie wasn't about to let Sofia or Martin remove them from the room. The man was Tyler's father too, and so Tyler had every right to be here as well. Josie wasn't going to voice that opinion out loud though. Sheldon Martin, Dr Sofia Austin, Tyler Austin

[attr="class","Tylerner"] [attr="class","Tylerner1"] [attr="class","Tylerback"] [attr="class","Tylernert"]And this is exactly why Tyler didn’t want to have Josie here. He wasn’t ready to explain to Sofia, given his sister’s less than warm greeting Tyler took Josie’s hand and pulled her back towards him. “My wife is accurate Sofia.” He tossed something she would recognize up on the table in front of them. A piece of a board game they had used to play with all the time. It was worn over the years, but it had always been his favorite piece. One she had mailed him before the letters stopped. He’d be a fool to think that his sister would be so easily sentimental. It didn’t help that whoever the man was holding her looked less than impressed. “Josie, why don’t you go check on the twins? Call the sitter. I’m sure she’d like to know when we plan on getting back tonight?” He really didn’t want Josie anywhere near the ‘conversation’ he had a feeling about things. He was quick to give his attention back to Sofia. “I came here, because I had a feeling you might show up.” He admitted. Really, when it came down to it; his father was the biggest asshole there was. “I’ve been looking for you since the letters started coming back to me. Unopened and return to sender.” He tossed a few on the table beside the piece. The last thing he needed was to be called a liar. “I’ve a shoe box full of them.” He’d been living overseas for so many years before he came back to the US that trying to get anything done was like pulling teeth. Searching for someone in Chicago when you lived in Virginia wasn’t easy and it wasn’t like Sofia Austin was a rare name. “Don’t ask me how many Sofia Austin’s live in the United States. It only took 836 for me to get it right.” Yeah well now Josie probably knew what he’d been doing at his desk for hours instead of work. [attr="class","Martinner"] [attr="class","Martinner1"] [attr="class","Martinback"] [attr="class","Martinnert"]Family and Sofia never went well in the same family. Not for Martin, he’d seen too much heartache from her so called family to be anything more than protective. Martin was still trying to get up the nerve to ask for more in the relationship with Sofia and then things had just started unfolding. It was always one thing after the next and he wanted just two minutes alone with his girlfriend so he could spill his guts. Martin protectively tucked Sofia into his arms when she stepped backwards into him. Though Martin moved her to his side. He knew how she felt about behind him and whatever was going on. He’d made that mistake before. Watching Tyler throw things up on the table, Martin was careful to make sure that Tyler made no other move in Sofia’s direction. Well the wife if anything seemed more enthusiastic than any of them about this ‘reunion’ of sorts. “I suggest you choose your next words very carefully, Mr. Austin.” Well he still didn’t know the guy’s name; people who knew Martin well knew that he could threaten a man and be polite all in one. Though he could tell that his wife was agitated. “There is no need for security. I am sure Mr. and Mrs. Austin was just leaving.” Martin could be a pretentious jerk. But he could also be very protective. It came with his job. Though Sofia wasn’t his job. Just the woman that he loved. Martin moved his stance to keep Sofia from doing something she would regret later. “Sofia, look at me.” He whispered. “ I told you we were here as long as I felt necessary.” He pushed some hair from her face. “We are done here. I want you to take a few breaths and walk away from this train wreck.” He pulled her close, protectively so and glared daggers at Tyler. Not patients, well then cops she thought though that was fine with her if cops were there. After the stunt her father had pulled she wanted to throw him in jail herself. Sofia tried to relax but then the woman spoke, those words that they were family. Her only family was lying in a bed hopefully under the influence of enough drugs to stay unconscious. “You’re family?” Sofia stuttered staring at the woman there, no this was too much for her mind to deal with today. It was enough that she was trying to be the bigger person with her own father than having who she could only assume was her brother and his girlfriend, wife or whoever in there too.
Sofia watched as Tyler seemed as protective of his wife as Martin was of her. At least her brother had that part right though she could hardly help but wonder if it was like father like son. The teenager she had known, that was impossible but the adult. She would never have thought her father capable when she was ten but soon after it was a downhill spiral. “You’re wife... ha wow. I’m amazed you can keep hold of one of those or how many have you walked out on before her?” Sofia asked glaring at him.
She kept that glare up until she saw the piece of a board game they used to play. The very piece she had mailed him but heard little after that. Sofia reached into her bag and pulled out her favourite piece from the game. She tossed her piece onto the table and continued to glare. “Snap. I have one too.” She stated as she could feel the sting of tears behind her eyes. Why had he even kept that stupid puzzle piece? It just made things difficult, it made telling him to go to hell that much tougher.
It was tough enough keeping herself together with Martin, not too long ago she was sobbing on the floor of his boss’s house thinking about leaving because this was too much of a mess. When they had finally figured that out, they got this. How Martin was still with her made her wonder if he needed a CT scan on his brain. Feeling Martin tuck her safely into his arms she felt like she could finally breathe again. With him stood at the side of her because she hated if he even attempted to push her behind him, no that had ended badly last time he had done it.
The conversation turned to kids, rather twins. Nieces or nephews, she had those and he never even thought to call? “You have kids too? A whole new life and you never once...” Sofia stopped herself there or she felt she might just break into pieces. She should have known better than to believe anything good, at least he was alive even if she wanted to kill him where he stood. Her father and brother, they were one in the same.
“Don’t you even start that, why are you here? You left years ago, what even gives you both the right to turn up now?” Sofia asked looking between Josie and Tyler. Sofia glanced at the letters as she stared at the old address, another painful reminder of the day he had left her there. Just what she needed right now. “Great you couldn’t even be bothered to put the right address on the letters, you really are just like him. You left Tyler; you have your life so just go back to it. Forget everything because it’s what you’re good at. You knew my name, our address so yeah 836 might be your number but how about twenty plus years.” She stated as she turned to Martin to listen to him.
Sofia gazed at Martin, he was right it was a mistake and she should never have gone. She agreed with him in the beginning as she felt him push some hair from her face until he finished his sentence and pulled her close. For a moment she was too numb to feel anything, too upset to think straight until she pushed away from him. “Train wreck Martin. Let go of me.” Sofia gasped glaring at him, “You’re my family too so do you count yourself as this train wreck? I’m not done here, he left and never called or wrote. He... He” Sofia could barely even begin to explain what her father had done over the years. “You all...” She had no words for what she wanted to say or scream as she glared at Tyler, her father and Martin.

Josie frowned, glancing up at Tyler. She was worried about the kids too, but they would be fine with the sitter. Besides, there was no way she was about to leave Tyler alone in this situation. Josie could feel the tension in the room, and the last thing they needed was some fight to break out, though by the look of things that might be unavoidable. "I'm sure the kids will be fine. I'm not leaving you here alone" Josie responded. She knew Tyler was fully capable of handling himself, but she felt better being beside him. Josie didn't know how this would play out, and she didn't want to leave her husband alone in case things got out of hand. "I suggest you choose your next words very carefully Mr. Austin"Josie narrowed her eyes, shooting a glare at Martin as she tightened her grip on her husband's hand. She didn't like the fact that he was threatening her husband, or that he just expected them to leave. No, they had every right to be here too. "Tyler, we don't have to leave if you don't want to" Josie began, briefly returning her attention to her husband. "It's your choice" "I'm amazed you can keep hold of one of those or how many have you walked out on before her?"Josie's gaze went from Tyler to Sofia. Her look of shock quickly turned to a glare. Who did this lady think she was? Sofia may be Tyler's sister, and she may be upset about what happened but in Josie's opinion, that didn't mean she could say something like that out loud. "Excuse me?" Josie asked as she let go of Tyler's hand and took a step forward. Nobody insulted her family like that, she didn't care if Tyler and Sofia were related. "Who gave you the right to talk to Tyler like that? If you don't think that your brother can settle down, have a family, and be happy then maybe you don't know him as well as you thought" Okay so maybe going off on Sofia wasn't the greatest choice, but Josie wasn't about to stay silent and let Tyler be insulted like that. No, Josie was going to say something. "You have kids too? A whole new life and you never once..."
Josie listened as Sofia continued her rant. There was several times where she wanted to interrupt, but she stopped herself. Josie could say her piece afterwards. "You know, Dr. Austin, you can sit here and blame Tyler all you want. But you're at fault too" Josie began. She acknowledged that she probably wasn't making matters much better, but Josie gave up being the voice of reason a while ago. "When the letters stopped coming, did you ever try to write back and see if he was alright?" Josie asked. "Did that idea ever occur to you, at all? That maybe something happened to your brother or that maybe the letter had gotten lost in the mail?" So maybe Josie was being a little harsh now, but she wasn't about to let Martin and Sofia blame Tyler for everything. Maybe her husband was at fault some, but not for everything. "And you can't be mad at Tyler for starting a family and a new chapter in his life when you're clearly doing the same thing too" Josie responded, gesturing to Martin. Josie didn't say anything after that, but she continued to glare at Sofia, as if daring her to say anything else about the subject. Sheldon Martin, Dr Sofia Austin, Tyler Austin

[attr="class","Tylerner"] [attr="class","Tylerner1"] [attr="class","Tylerback"] [attr="class","Tylernert"]Truth was Tyler didn’t walk out on people, they just seemed to drift away and like a riptide there was little he could do to stop it. His sister’s sarcasm didn’t go unnoted. Then she said he never tried to contact her after the kid had been born. He tossed that letter out among the pile too same address. “I have every letter that ever made it to me Sofia. Not a one of them ever had a change of address on them.” He hadn’t stopped looking but it wasn’t like Sofia Austin was a unique name among billions of people. When Sofia started in on Josie, he let Josie snap back. If it was one thing that his wife was, it wasn’t one who was out to make confrontation but he knew she wouldn’t just lay down and take it either. If it was a fight Sofia was looking to pick, then he was fairly certain she’d just found it. His sister’s reaction was exactly the reason he didn’t want to do anything. Tyler saw Martin trying to help and it broke his heart to watch her push away the only person in the room who she even would probably listen to. “Who is the one pushing people away Sofia? The one person standing beside you and you are pushing him away. Not everyone is Raymund. You’ve carried his burden far too long. As far as why I am here. I figured you might show up. My one chance to finally make contact you. Did you really think I would pass up a chance to fix things?” He picked up the game piece he hand and reached for her hand, though he didn’t do much more than try and hand her the piece. “It’s your move, Sofia. I made mine. Flip it over” On the bottom of the puzzle piece was his phone number. A bold move but a necessary Olive leaf of sorts. With that Tyler put an arm around Josie. “Let it go sweetheart, just let it go.” Tyler was likely not to make it back in the car without beating his head into a wall or crying on Josie’s shoulders. Tyler wasn’t the crying type but if his sister wanted to walk away at least he’d been the one that reached out. [attr="class","Martinner"] [attr="class","Martinner1"] [attr="class","Martinback"] [attr="class","Martinnert"] Martin was used to be pushed around, made to feel like he was saying the wrong thing. He just reminded himself that she needed space. That didn’t mean he didn’t watch her from afar. She’d had far too much going on lately. When Tyler approached Martin stepped closer to Sofia. There wasn’t a very trusting stance between him and Tyler. Martin agreed with Tyler to a point, Sofia did need to stop pushing people away but that had to be her decision. All he could do was let her try and refuse to budge. “Sofia. Let’s get you home.” He decided to keep his words short but make his point. Sofia needed to rest. He had for a few weeks now had a weekend planned for the two of them. He’d taken the time off work and then all of this mess had happened. Though he knew how well the whole resting conversation was going to go. He simply avoided it. “Our flight leaves early. Perhaps we should get the rest of our things in order this evening?” He offered a distraction. Something to take her mind off of things. Martin reached an arm out but he knew better than to reach farther. Sofia had to make her own decisions, he wasn’t want to push but he never did go far. “Where are those gorgeous brown eyes?” He wanted her to look at him, but he was allowed to build her up in the process. He took a step closer closing a good bit of the arms length gap between them. “I’m in this train wreck too, but I’m right beside you.” He whispered. “We are on the same track” He kissed the side of her forehead. Sofia glanced at the letters he tossed onto the pile, he was right there was no letter there with the change of address on it. It could mean he just forgot it or was using it as an excuse as he glared at him for a moment. “It did, I left it in the bowl by the door to get posted. I wrote to you, then I heard nothing I kept writing but my letters got returned so I just figured you didn’t want to write anymore.” Sofia explained not sure what had gone wrong. She had tried to look for Tyler too but the military were seal up like a drum, no whereabouts not even a ‘he’s alive’ from them.
She could hear the grunt and almost chuckle from their father though she assumed it was more to do with their arguing than anything else. It did nothing to lessen the idea of putting a pillow over his face and trying to strangle the guy with whatever she could find. Sofia turned her attention to Josie not hearing her father look at Tyler mentioning there was no way he could receive a letter that had never been sent.
“Who gave me the right? He did when he walked out on the family, when he left me to try and deal with all of this and then just cut off contact all together.” Sofia snapped back at Josie, she felt sorry for the woman as the brother she knew would never leave but he had done. The brother she thought she had would keep in touch and he had failed that, now she felt sorry for his wife who must wonder when he was going to take that jacket and bag and leave again not coming back because that was who he was. Tyler Austin that never came back for family.
“Well excuse me for knowing the brother that never come home, the brother that was never there for years and now he turns up. Now when life has been falling apart he turns up.” Sofia asked not sure what more she could say about her brother because she had known him as a kid. Her last memory of him was walking away and the thousand thoughts after that day of what he was doing, wishing him the best and trying to reason with herself as to why he was gone. On the plus side though, even if Sofia never said it she was glad her brother had Josie because she defended him.
Defended him when she could have stood there and let him take what she had to throw at him. The woman had her respect and admiration for that. “Oh you think I gave up? Do you know what it’s like to ask the military for anything? To chase base after base for Tyler Austin to find one and then be told no that is not the right guy, or he does not exist here. Never worked for this base, no idea who he is and nothing by way of further information. Yeah I looked for him, wrote to him with the only address I had.” She snapped repeating the address she had though it was about as out of date as a postman on horseback.
Sofia looked toward Martin, was that was she was doing. Starting a family with Martin? Sofia glanced back to Josie as she could almost cry right there and then, “Martin is my family and I’ve only managed to make that step recently if you must know. I’ve not been at this as long as you both have. I just wanted to be a part of my family.” Sofia said trying to explain to Josie though really how could she explain the disaster that had been family. The disaster that had been her father and Sofia knew Tyler had ever idea what that had been like.
It seemed to just be blow after blow when Tyler chimed in about pushing people away. Since when had this turned on her failings in life? Pushing people away was what she knew how to do, it saved them getting hurt or getting too close to her life where she knew people left. Martin should have left long ago and now when he came to his senses and did it would only hurt that much more. Sofia could barely bring herself to look at Martin as she tried to withhold the tears she wanted to shed.
“You’ve no idea Tyler, you really have no clue what he has done.” Sofia almost sobbed, she was sure if she said a word of it there would be two people wanting to kill their own father than just one right now. “I do not understand what you would do.” She added letting him take her hand as she held the puzzle piece in her hand. It was her move she thought as she flipped over the piece in her hand to see the phone number on the other side. Sofia stood there for a moment turning to Martin, the one person she had pushed away a lot more than she knew she had until it had been said.
Sofia was glad for how close Martin was; she noticed how he had stepped closer to her when Tyler approached. “Home.” She repeated not quiet knowing where she wanted to go right at that moment. “I don’t know.” She said not sure what she hardly knew. Where was home again? Her place or his place or anywhere in between and then there was that weekend Martin had planned for them. “Oh packing... yes we need to do that before we forget.” Sofia stuttered still not entirely feeling like she was gasping the conversation at all as she stared at Martin’s arm.
For just a moment she hesitated in reaching out for him though once she did reach out, things just seemed to get a little easier. Gorgeous brown eyes, how could he say that when she was sure she looked less than gorgeous to start with and now she had been crying. There was little gorgeous about anything anymore as she gazed at him anyway trying to smile though she could barely turn the corners of her mouth. “I don’t want you to be in a train wreck Martin, I just want to be beside you.” She said seriously as she smiled a little easier feeling him the kiss the side of her forehead. “I don’t want to push you away, I’m sorry I don’t want you to go Martin.”
Sofia kissed Martin’s cheek for a moment before turning toward her brother though she never let go of Martin’s hand or arm. If anything she held him a little tighter to be sure that she was making a choice or at least a right one. “Tyler... Josie... please, don’t go.” She said in almost a whisper to the two of them. “Please don’t leave again, I cannot... I.” She gasped, “Please don’t go again. I can’t take you leaving twice.” Sofia held onto to Martin, her fingers tightening against his jacket as she spoke. "I want more than just a puzzle piece Tyler." Sofia asked quietly. Martin was there which meant it was all okay, he was there and so was her brother though even the thought of him leaving led to the inevitable tears that she had fought to hold back, start to cascade down her cheeks.

Josie relaxed when she felt Tyler's arm around her. Maybe she had been a little harsh when snapping at Sofia, but then again Josie had never been one to sit back and let somebody bad mouth her family. She was about ready to do as Tyler said and to let it go. Maybe go out into the hallway and call the babysitter like Tyler had originally suggested, and give them some space. But then Sofia was begging them not to leave, and Josie felt a wave of guilt. While Josie had been an only child, her parents were not. As a result, back when she lived in Germany, and even in France, she had family members she saw often. There were grandparents, aunts and uncles, a few cousins. While she hadn't seen any of them in awhile, they still talked and Josie never felt like they'd left her or that she'd left them. Josie briefly glanced up at Tyler before looking to Sofia. She knew that her husband had said it was up to Sofia now, but Tyler's sister had pretty much made up her mind with the whole begging them not to leave. "I'm sorry about earlier. This can't be an easy situation to be in" Josie began. She figured it would be best to start with an apology, especially given that she had snapped at Sofia. "You have Tyler's number now. We can change this. Maybe when you get back from your trip, we could arrange a meeting somewhere that isn't the hospital?" Josie suggested. She was trying to leave options open, and at least show that she was interested provided Tyler was okay with it. Sofia was his sister after all, and she didn't want to necessarily put him or the others in an uncomfortable situation. "Maybe we could even bring Staci and Patrick, the twins, along. I think they would love to meet you" While Josie thought it was a good idea for Sofia and Martin to meet her son and daughter, she didn't want to say that they would definitely bring them. That was a discussion that would have to happen between her and Tyler first, and that was assuming Sofia would want to meet the twins, or even meet up with her and Tyler again. It was a lot to discuss, and probably not something that should be planned in a hospital room, but right now Josie's priority was making sure Sofia understood that they wouldn't leave if she didn't want them to. And Josie was sure that they wouldn't either, given Tyler did give Sofia his number. "In the meantime though, if you want us to stay here, I suppose we could" Josie said before looking up at Tyler. She didn't know if her husband necessarily wanted to stay in this room, but surely if his sister was begging them not to leave then he would stay. She could tell that he was already nearing the end of his rope, and Josie leaned into him more in an attempt to offer some support. It would be a long night, that's for sure. [attr="class","Martinner"] [attr="class","Martinner1"] [attr="class","Martinback"] [attr="class","Martinnert"] Martin could do little more than be there to watch out for Sofia. He was one who let her fight her own battles but stepped in when he needed to and Sofia was far too upset by all of this for his liking and so he still gave the same stern stoic look to both Tyler and Josie. “Enough, Sofia’s already upset. Do not make it it worse.” He ran a hand through Sofia’s hair, he could hear Raymund talking in the background. “What do you mean never sent Raymund?” He hissed coldly, positioning himself between Sofia and Raymund. No he didn’t get to do that to her. Sofia was on her rant. “Sofia..” Martin tried to get her attention softly despite his somewhat stronger hold on her. There was no way he was letting her have at anyone in this room. She needed to be level headed and now was not the time for her to be making brash decisions. Then she went to telling him that she didn’t want him to go anywhere and her apologies. “Sweetheart, I am not going anywhere.” He put a finger up under her chin to bring her eyes back to his. Martin had years of training that worked in his favor. He ran his hand up and down her back in a light massage motion. “Perhaps we should all relocate to another area.” Martin was feeling rather protective of Sofia in general the last few days but even more on his guard with Raymund in the room. The man was not someone he trusted. He could see Tyler’s tension as Martin watched the man pace but keeping himself between Josie and others. He could tell Tyler wasn’t exactly the most trusting person. He couldn’t blame him. Given the situation, Martin felt the same way; he just didn’t expend the anxious energy, he’d learned that it only made things worse over the years. “I got some of your things already set aside. I figured you wanted to go through them before I packed them entirely.” Martin offered when she mentioned the whole packing thing. He continued playing with her hair. “There’s only a bit left to do, so don’t you feel rushed.” [attr="class","Martinner2"] [attr="class","Martinnerlyric"]With all due respect Aren’t you going to reciprocate?

[attr="class","Tylerner"] [attr="class","Tylerner1"] [attr="class","Tylerback"] [attr="class","Tylernert"]Didn’t want to write anymore? Was Sofia serious right now? He was about to return answers to Sofia when Martin went off on Raymund. The Sofia was going off on Josie. “It’s not worth wasting energy Josephine. This isn’t your mess.” He was trying to get Josie to back off. It wasn’t really a battle he felt worth fighting. He’d already resolved to the fact that Sofia wanted nothing to do with him. “Leave her out of this Sofia.” Tyler moved between the two women and turned his back to Josie. In all honesty, it was Josie he trusted not to do something crazy. His sister needed help but he wasn’t about to be the one to dare say anything. Then there was some lecture on how Tyler knew nothing about what Martin had done. “I never claimed to know specifics, but I know that look. I see the way you look at him, and the way he looks at you. That’s enough.” Tyler held Josie close to him, he wanted to stop Josie from talking but she’d been there through all of the pain he’d gone through as Sofia had slipped away. Tyler wasn’t sure he was ready to bring his whole family tumbling into Sofia’s life. Patrick didn’t even have the Austin last name and that wasn’t something he was ready to dredge up yet. Their mother’s maiden name was being passed down the generation. Meanwhile, he moved Josie further from Raymund and poised himself in a position to better keep her away from his father. Why were they even here? There was no love for the man. Tyler got lost in his wife leaning on him. He whispered something in German about wanting to talk later and then kissed the side of Josie’s face. Tyler had a lot of energy and emotion pent up and right now bringing his family into things wasn’t ideal given he couldn’t even bring himself to handle the situation. “Isn’t she in this with you too?” Sofia questioned Tyler not sure what to say or do about any of it right now. Her head was spinning and to top it off Martin then started in on her father. She felt like explaining this was just another Saturday night in the Austin household, this was her life to a point though hearing her father explain he had never sent the letter she wanted posted. The one letter that started everything off. It was lucky that Martin stood between them because Sofia wanted to murder her father right then.
“Why?” She asked only to hear the why not answer and the chuckle as she tried to focus on anyone else but the man she now loathed. Sofia stared at Josie, was she really being nice to her after she had practically flown off the handle at her? For that one thing alone Sofia was glad Tyler had managed to find a good person like that to have a family with. “I’m sorry too, I just don’t handle thing... family it is a mess.” She admitted knowing that between an absent brother; a father who was as close to evil as she knew family was tough subject to broach at any point.
Sofia smiled at Josie, “Sure I’d love that if you two would be okay with meeting up again?” Sofia asked not wanting to push things but at least she knew her brother was alive and happy. It was the better end of the ideas she had about him if she was honest about it. “I’d, sorry we’d love to meet Staci and Patrick but only if they want to, I don’t want to push things too much I know that it’s no easy for you either.” She admitted not sure if Tyler had mentioned her at all or if it was a new thing to her too.
Sofia glanced toward Tyler again, the way she looked at Martin was that now an issue she wondered. It was the trust factor of life, the brother she trusted had ‘left’ and the father she trusted singlehandedly tried to ruin her life on a pretty regular basis but despite that. Martin somehow was still there with her, maybe he was just as crazy as she was she thought for a second nodding to Tyler. “I don’t know that I have enough left to give.” Sofia admitted barely looking at Martin not sure if Tyler could understand just how much she felt had been taken.
Then Martin just had to go and say her name. Her eyes looked anywhere but his face until he put a finger under her chin and she had no other choice but to look into those eyes. Eyes that made her forget almost everything else as she nodded. “We can go to my office.” She said glancing at the group trying to pull whatever pieces were left of herself together, her office had sharp pointy objects and maybe a few she could bring back to the room they were stood in.
“You packed my things? I haven't packed yours, I will do though I promise.” She questioned wondering what she had ever done to deserve that, her hands held onto Martin for a moment as she nodded. “Thank you and you never rush me, I just. Want to make sure you know, that I have everything.” She said having completely forgotten where he said they were going in the first place. A question for later sure but then admitting she had only been half present during most of their conversations lately she figured was a bad idea. Say nothing and life goes on. “Thank you.” She whispered leaning up to kiss his cheek lightly before looking at Josie and Tyler. “If you want to go down the hall to my office I have snack bars and juice.” She suggested, she might have had a bottle of alcohol in there too but Sofia despised it so she never really had any around her if she could help it.

Josie looked up at Tyler when he mentioned it not being her mess, especially when he had called her Josephine. She rarely went by that, preferring to go by ‘Josie’. She also knew it wasn’t completely her responsibility or her mess. This was Tyler’s family after all, but they were married and that made Sofia Josie’s sister-in-law.
“I’m sorry. I’m just trying to help” Josie murmured softly to Tyler, choosing to use her native language, German. While Josie could speak English fluently and had been living in America for awhile now, she hadn’t forgotten her native language and would still speak it on occasion.
“Isn’t she in this with you too?”
“I am” Josie responded, gently grabbing hold of Tyler’s hand and giving it a comforting squeeze. “Tyler is my family, just as much as he is yours” That much was true. Tyler was her husband, and the father of their children. Josie loved him, and would do everything in her power to protect him and to help him.
When Sofia apologized, Josie offered a small smile. “It’s okay. Nobody ever said family would be easy. Oftentimes it’s complicated on so many levels”
Josie further relaxed when Tyler spoke to her in German, telling her he wanted to talk later. She gave a small nod, before responding back in German and telling him that she understood. Josie then returned her attention to Sofia and Martin.
She would like to meet with Martin and Sofia again, and definitely under better circumstances. However, that would have to be Tyler’s decision too. Sofia was his sister after all. And while Josie hoped that he would be willing to meet them again and maybe introduce the twins to Sofia and Martin, she didn’t want to force him to do anything too.
“Just let us know when you’re ready, and we’ll see what we can do” Josie offered, figuring that would be the best response. It allowed Sofia and Martin time to think this over, and it also gave Josie and Tyler time to talk and decide.
It wasn’t going to be easy, but family rarely was. Given they weren’t yelling at each other and fighting anymore though, Josie hoped things were on the mend. There was still the whole Raymund mess, but Josie didn’t want to go near that topic. From what she knew, Raymund was not a good man and Josie didn’t want to have their family anywhere near him if she could help it.
When Martin suggested moving somewhere else, and Sofia offered her office, she looked up at Tyler. “Are you okay with that?” she murmured.
“If you want to head home and rest for a bit, we can” Josie told Tyler, easily switching to German in order to continue the conversation. She already knew that a lot had happened, and there was a lot that they needed to talk about. While Josie hoped that Tyler wouldn’t mind continuing the discussion in his sister’s office, maybe even try to sort out everything, she also knew it was his choice and she didn’t want him pushing himself emotionally or mentally. “I don’t want you to push yourself, love” Josie continued, still speaking in German “If you’re tired, then we can put this conversation on hold”
